Sandra K. Mackey - November 22, 1942 - April 06, 2024

Departed: 04/06/2024 (Coleman)
Obituary Preview: Our beloved Sandra "Sandy” Mackey, age 81, passed away peacefully in the loving arms of her husband, Gene, on Saturday, April 6, 2024, at Nu-Roc Health & Rehabilitation Center in Blackwell, Wisconsin. She received compassionate care from a remarkable staff and we are forever grateful for their professionalism and love. Also, special thanks to Andy and Lori Brooks for all their time and care of family. Additionally, to Connie Weber, thank you so much for the many trips escorting Gene to the Wausau Hospital, sometimes especially during inclement weather. Gene was able to spend more precious time with Sandy because of all of you stepping up to help. Our hearts and souls are fuller for all your generosity.
Sandy and Gene were married for almost 63 years and they were the loves of each other's lives. One could not speak the name of one without the other.
They stayed madly in love through all the beautiful moments life offered and also the heartbreaking events. Even to the end of Sandy's earthly life Gene was able to hold her in his loving arms and witness her last breath on earth and her new ascent to her Heavenly Father. Sandy's faith always kept her strong and more importantly loving towards others. Her smile and laugh were infectious and you couldn't help be a better human being in her presence.
She loved so many of us and was loved by so many. Sandy was your quintessential house wife and mother, always maintaining a beautiful loving home. She decided later in life to attend Nicolet Technical Institute where she graduated with honors earning a degree in Liberal Arts. Yet her great passion was working in her yard and relaxing with Gene and the sweet little creatures that came by their creek.
She was preceded in death by her grandson; Joshua, her sister; Beverly Brooks and brother-in-law; Thurman Brooks Sr., niece; Marilyn Brooks, nephew; Thurman Brooks Jr., great nephews; Chad Adams and Adam Roberts, as well as parents; Dorothy and Rudy Hujet.
Sandy is survived by her loving husband; Gene, son; Andrew (Phyllis) Mackey, and grandson; Michael Mackey. Also remaining are her sisters; Arlene Weyenberg, Sharon Stefanski, Juanita Dervetski, and her favorite and only brother; John Hujet.
"So, Jesus said to her, I am the resurrection and the life. Those who believe in me, even though they die, will live, and everyone who lives and believes in me will never die." John 11:25-26. Until we meet again, sweetheart.
A private family get together will take place at a later date.

Born on February 13, 1939, and raised in Coleman, she was the oldest child of Laddie and Gladys Stodola. She graduated from Coleman High School in 1957, and began attending nursing school that fall. While she was home for Christmas that winter, the trajectory of her life would change forever. She decided to attend a Christmas Night dance at the Blue Spruce in Spruce, Wisconsin. A handsome young man named Vernle, fresh out of the U.S. Army, asked her to dance. He gave her a ride home that night, and they began dating shortly after that. Snowmobiling, going to Shaffers or the Golden Pheasant, or playing cards at someone’s house, they were always the life of the party. Despite work and a busy social life, Judy always found time for her children, and later in life, her grandchildren, who all have fond memories of the times they spent with Grandma and Grandpa. Judy also spent time volunteering for the Village of Coleman assisting with elections.
Judith leaves behind her daughter Cheri and her husband Mark Schounard, her son Skip and his wife Ann Novacheck, and her son Stephen and his wife Sarah. Frequently Asked Questions

What is an obituary?

An obituary is a written notice that announces the death of a person, typically including their name, age, date of birth and death, and a brief biography. It's usually published in a newspaper, online obituary platform, or funeral home website to inform friends, family, and community members of the passing.

Why are obituaries important?

Obituaries serve as a way to honor and celebrate the life of the deceased, while also providing essential information to those who need to know about the passing. They can also help facilitate communication among loved ones, allowing them to share condolences and plan memorial services.

Who writes an obituary?

Typically, a family member or close friend writes the obituary, but it can also be written by a funeral home or obituary writer. The writer should have a good understanding of the deceased person's life, personality, and accomplishments to create a meaningful and accurate tribute.

What information should be included in an obituary?

A typical obituary includes the deceased person's full name, age, date of birth and death, place of residence, occupation, education, hobbies, achievements, and surviving family members. It may also include details about the funeral or memorial service, as well as any charitable donations or flowers in lieu of gifts.

How long should an obituary be?

The length of an obituary can vary depending on the publication or platform. Generally, it should be concise and to the point, ranging from 100 to 500 words. Online obituaries may allow for longer tributes or additional photos and stories.

Can I include photos in an obituary?

Yes, many publications and online platforms allow you to include one or more photos with the obituary. This can be a great way to personalize the tribute and provide a visual representation of the deceased person's life.

How do I submit an obituary to a newspaper?

Contact the newspaper's obituary department directly to inquire about their submission process and guidelines. Some newspapers may accept online submissions, while others may require email or phone submissions. Be prepared to provide the necessary information and payment for publication.

Can I write my own obituary?

Yes, some people choose to write their own obituary before they pass away. This can be a therapeutic exercise that allows individuals to reflect on their life and legacy. However, it's essential to keep in mind that the final version may need to be edited or revised by family members or funeral homes.

How much does it cost to publish an obituary?

The cost of publishing an obituary varies widely depending on the publication, location, and length of the tribute. Online platforms may offer free or low-cost options, while traditional newspapers may charge anywhere from $50 to $1,000 or more.

Can I edit an obituary after it's been published?

In most cases, it's difficult or impossible to make changes to an obituary once it's been published in print. Online obituaries may allow for edits or corrections within a certain timeframe. It's essential to proofread carefully before submitting the final version.

What if I want to keep the obituary private?

If you prefer not to publicly announce the passing of a loved one, you can opt for a private obituary or memorial page on an online platform. This allows you to share information with select individuals while maintaining privacy.

Can I include humor or personal anecdotes in an obituary?

Absolutely! An obituary should reflect the personality and spirit of the deceased person. Including humorous stories or personal anecdotes can help capture their essence and make the tribute more engaging and relatable.

How do I find an old obituary?

You can try searching online archives of newspapers or websites that specialize in historical records. Many libraries also maintain microfilm collections of old newspapers that can be searched manually. Additionally, you can contact local genealogical societies or historical organizations for assistance.

Can I republish an old obituary online?

What's the difference between an obituary and a death notice?

A death notice is typically a brief announcement of someone's passing, often including only basic information like name, age, and date of death. An obituary provides more detailed information about the person's life, accomplishments, and surviving family members.

Can I include quotes or poems in an obituary?
