Helga met the love of her life, Richard, through a thriving German-American social circle. Lenore Phyllis Vengen - November 05, 1922 - March 22, 2024

Departed: 03/22/2024 (East Brunswick)
Obituary Preview: The family of Lenore “Phyllis” Vengen (nee: Dominick) mourns the passing of our Mom, Babchi, Great-
Babchi and Ciocia Phyllis. She died peacefully at home at the age of 101.
She was born in Passaic, NJ, and lived in East Brunswick, NJ, in one house for 67 years. Phyllis led a remarkable and fulfilling life. In her youth, she already showed a knack for entertaining, singing at the local Boys Club. On weekends, while attending high school, she would bus into NYC to dance in special events at clubs and theaters. While at dance school, she was selected to perform with the Major Bowes touring troupe, and traveled with them up and down the east coast, from Florida to Canada. During summers, she toured with the Hamid-Morton Circus as an acrobat, and helped to create their human pyramid. She also led the grand entry into the Big Top, which featured all the circus performers and animals in full regalia. During World War II she operated a metal grinding machine as a
“fine finisher” in an all-male engine fabrication shop, at the Curtiss Wright Aircraft Company. In 1946 she married Stanley Vengen when he returned from the war. They shared a beautiful life together until his passing in 2007. They enjoyed spending time down the shore at the family bungalow, polka dancing, bowling, and attending events with the members of the 133rd Regiment 34 th Infantry
Division (Red Bull). She made the most of her 101 years, and taught us all about living independently and always having a positive attitude. She was full of life and laughter until her last few days, and was a beautiful soul inside
and out. She was loved by all who came in contact with her, and she never had a harsh word for anyone.
Above all else, Phyllis adored her family.
She was predeceased by her parents, her husband, her brother and sister, and her son-in-law. She leaves behind her profoundly saddened three daughters Lenore Promaulayko (Alan Promaulayko), Deborah Sweeney, and Carrie Sempkowski (Gene Sempkowski), and her grandchildren Tara Perdoni (Steve Perdoni), Dan Sempkowski (Katie Sempkowski), Leah Sweeney and Michelle Crow (Seth Crow). In addition, she was blessed to have five great grandchildren, Chase, Nathan, Colton, Caden, and Lucas,
and many loving nieces and nephews. To quote a longtime friend of Phyllis: “I know she is in a beautiful place with your dad - and hopefully
dancing a polka”.
