Thomas Robert Simonitis - May 08, 1941 - April 29, 2024

Departed: 04/29/2024 (Brunswick)
Obituary Preview: Thomas (Tom) Simonitis, 82, of Monroe Township passed away peacefully early Monday April 29, 2024. He’s now resting with God and his loving wife - and favorite rummy 500 partner - Mary Ann.
Tom was born in Pittston, PA, grew up in Wilkes-Barre and settled to raise a family in Monroe Twp.
What we’ll remember most about Tom is his lifelong commitment to service. He held great memories of his time with the 101st Airborne Division of the U.S. Army. As a trained paratrooper, he loved to joke that he had completed many airplane takeoffs before he ever experienced a landing. After leaving the Army, his servitude was transferred to his family and church. He was devoted to family and providing for us was his greatest joy.
Tom had many professions over his life - from owning a gas station to selling jogging suits at Englishtown Auction to becoming a career truck driver - with every job devoted to providing the best life possible for his family. Put simply, he was a person who enjoyed hard work and a job well done. A lesson he instilled in all of his children and really anyone who would listen.
His sometimes gruff exterior was a charade. Underneath was a kind and loving man who cared deeply about the people around him. And he was never apologetic about shedding tears of joy when celebrating with family.
At family gatherings, he’d sit at the head of our table filled with shenanigans with a sneaky smile peeking out from under his broad mustache. Feigning annoyance, he’d tell us all to settle down, it’s time to say grace. No one listened, and we’re pretty sure he liked that even more. If you’re looking out for Tom, he’s probably somewhere right now sampling food from the stove before dinner as was his custom in nearly anyone’s kitchen.
He was predeceased by his parents, Joe Assid and Ellen (Amos) Simonitis, his beloved wife, Mary Ann (Girard) Simonitis who died in 2021, and his brothers; John and Bobby Simonitis.
He is survived by daughters Susan Simonitis (Paul) and Sheryl Simonitis (Bill), son Thomas Simonitis (Jill), grandchildren; Nick Simonitis (Marisa), Knox Simonitis, Julia Simonitis, and a great-grandson; Desmond Simonitis and his many nieces and nephews, as well as many other loving family members in New Jersey and Pennsylvania.
Relatives and friends may visit from 4-8 pm on Friday, May 3, 2024, at Rezem Funeral Home, 457 Cranbury Road, East Brunswick.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Saturday, May 4, 2024 at 9:30am at St. James Church, 36 Lincoln Ave, Jamesburg, burial will follow at Holy Cross Burial Park, South Brunswick.
