Audrey Ramon Hamilton - December 21, 1960 - July 03, 2021

Departed: 07/03/2021 (Houston)
Obituary Preview: Audrey Ramon Holmes was born on December 21, 1960 in Cleveland, Ohio to Ahmad Holmes and Audrey Hudson.  She died unexpectedly on July 3, 2021.  Affectionately known as "Dudney" to her family and close friends, Audrey was a long-time resident of Houston, Texas but spent most of her early years in El Paso, TX. She graduated from Coronado High School at age 17 and married the love of her life, Rufus Hamilton III in 1978.  To this union, three children were born: Rufus IV, Jason Tyron, and Nicole.  Audrey possessed an amazing capacity to love and to empathize with others.  In her Friendswood, TX neighborhood, where she raised her children she was known as a "second mother" to her children's friends.  If you wanted to be friends with Mrs. Hamilton, you first had to be friends with one of the kids.  As a child, Audrey was the baby girl of the family for nearly 10 years.  Yet when baby sister Angela arrived, she was the first in line to care for and love the new baby. Upon this foundation, the rock of a loving relationship was built that has endured for over 50 years and which will continue for eternity.  Audrey was known for traveling.  She never shied away from a cruise ship or from the chance to travel with friends.  Audrey worked as an HR specialist and was very knowledgeable about HR and benefit programs.
Audrey had a loving family and great friends who will forever treasure her spirit. Those who knew Audrey will smile at the thought of her funny stories, her infectious laugh, her quiet dignity that made her appear regal, the way she sometimes talked loudly - having two "big ol sons" they say, made her this way, the way she got work done and the way she brought light to every situation. Audrey was gentle, brave, loyal, strong and incredibly fun.  She was the life of the party who was quick to befriend others.  She was generous, full of energy and loved everything that life had to offer; qualities she passed to her daughter.  She shined her light bright even during life’s darkest moments and now her light shines even brighter in heaven.
Audrey is survived by her mother: Audrey Jean Holmes; children: Rufus Hamilton, IV, and Nicole Hamilton Smith (Marcus); stepson: Andre Hamilton; siblings Sylvester Holmes (Louito), Rose Minton, Joseph Holmes (Curhonda), Ahmad Holmes, Angela Ramos Fields, Lord Morgan Carey, Nazer Sedeeq Holmes (Kathleen); the surviving members of the Fab Five: Beverly Brown, Bonnie Munds (Andre), Gina Hudson, and Antoinette Thorne (Derrick); her uncles: Ernest and Forrest Hudson (Joyce); nephews: Blaize Fields, Grant Fields, Corey Minton, Blair Minton, Sylvester David Holmes, Nathan Holmes (Megan), Joseph (Jo Jo) Holmes II, Jamar (Trey) Holmes, Ciam Holmes, Oliver Holmes; nieces: Penny Rose Holmes Thompson (Toby), Stephanie Holmes, Monica Williams, and Makayla Williams; great nieces: Diamond Singletary and Violet Holmes; great nephew: Jeremiah Birt; special friends: Valencia Hogan, Pam Collins, Leticia (Lety) Valdez, and numerous cousins and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Rufus Hamilton III, her father, Ahmad Holmes and her beloved son Jason Tyron Hamilton.

Roberteen Castello - June 04, 1949 - August 23, 2020

Departed: 08/23/2020 (Houston)
Obituary Preview: On the evening of Sunday August 23, 2020 after a long battle with her health, Roberteen Castello took her last breath.
Roberteen Veronica Castello was born June 4th, 1949 to Gladston and Naomi Roberts on the island of Antigua and Barbuda.  She was the 7th out of 8 children born in that union. She attended the Otters School St. John Antigua. After moving to St.Croix, US Virgin Islands where she spent her formal years, she met and later married Winfield Castello Sr.  To this union five children were born.  After spending a few years in St. Croix, Roberteen and Winfield made the decision to move to Houston, TX and remained there for over 30 yrs.
While living in Houston, Roberteen along with her husband became members of the Bellfort now WHO SDA church.  Roberteen was a very active member and ensured that her children were taught of God’s love.  She was an exceptional wife and mother who not only cared for her family but, also cared for her neighbors and friends.  Prior to her declining health, it was not uncommon for her to walk miles to deliver a home cooked meal to friend in need.  She was a caretaker to many, helping friends finish their education while taking care of their children.  Roberteen went out of her way to show love and compassion and didn’t do it out of obligation but simply because of the wonderful person she was, not expecting anything in return.
As her health worsened, her joy of life and indomitable spirit kept her pushing through.  It would be wrong to say that she lost her battle, because she never stopped fighting.  When others would have broken, Roberteen remained strong.  Through her, her children know the true meaning of what it is to persevere and be resilient.
Roberteen is preceded in death by her parents Gladston and Naomi Roberts, sisters: Joslyn Lewis, Donna McKenneth and her nephew Shawn Lewis.  She is survived by her husband Winfield Castello Sr., her children Winfield Castello Jr. (Dannia Tate-Castello), Joslyn Irish (Damani), Florence Castello, Harman Castello (Juliana) and Sharona Castello.  Her grandchildren: Joseph Castello, Winfield Castello III, Kamille Castello, Kyle Irish, Nevaeh Irish, Austin Castello, Aubrie Castello, Savannah Castello and Rayna Castello(due in September 2020). Also her siblings: unborn twins, Stephen Roberts (Gertrude), O’Neal Roberts (Gwendolyn), Renita Roberts, and Cothbert Roberts (step-brother). Her nephews: Stephen Roberts, Raman Roberts, Rollan Roberts, Joseph Lewis, Patrick Lewis, Jerome Lewis, and Ishmael Lewis.

What is the purpose of an obituary?

The primary purpose of an obituary is to notify others of a person's death and provide information about their life, achievements, and surviving family members. It also serves as a way to share memories, express condolences, and celebrate the person's life.

Who typically writes an obituary?

In most cases, the obituary is written by the family members or close friends of the deceased, often with the assistance of a funeral home or obituary writer. The writer will gather information from the family and create a concise and respectful tribute to the person who has passed away.

What information should be included in an obituary?

A typical obituary includes the person's full name, age, date of birth and death, place of residence, occupation, education, military service (if applicable), hobbies, interests, and surviving family members. It may also include information about memorial services, donations in lieu of flowers, and other relevant details.

How long should an obituary be?

The length of an obituary can vary depending on the publication or platform. Traditional newspaper obituaries are usually brief, ranging from 100 to 200 words. Online obituaries can be longer, often up to 500 words or more, allowing for a more detailed and personalized tribute.

What is the difference between an obituary and a death notice?

A death notice is a brief announcement of a person's death, typically including only the basic facts such as name, age, and date of death. An obituary is a more detailed and personalized tribute that provides additional information about the person's life and legacy.

How do I submit an obituary to a newspaper?

Contact the newspaper's obituary department directly to inquire about their submission process and guidelines. They may have specific requirements for content, format, and deadlines. You can usually find this information on their website or by calling their office.

What is an online obituary?

How long do online obituaries stay online?

The duration that an online obituary remains available varies depending on the platform or website. Some may keep them online permanently, while others may remove them after a certain period. Be sure to check with the platform or website for their specific policies.

Can I edit an online obituary after it's been published?

In most cases, yes. Online obituary platforms usually allow you to make changes or corrections to the original text. However, it's essential to review your work carefully before publishing to avoid errors or inaccuracies.

What is a guest book or condolence message?
