An angel lived among us, A gift from God above. She showered us with kindness And shared with us her love. She cherished every moment With the man who was her life; Walking hand in hand together, Facing life with all its strife. She loved her children dearly, Each one a different way, Nestled close within her heart. Though, now, she’s far away. She’s gone to live with Jesus. But, she’s here with us today, Smiling down on every one of us, And telling us she’s okay.

On Friday, January 12, 2024, Yvonne Louise Fields peacefully left this world with the family she loved at her side. She was born March 1, 1931, to the late Arthur and Selina Salvant Henry in Pass Christian, Mississippi. The third child of seven, she was given the nickname “Tady” by her older twin sisters, Delores and Frances because she always carried her teddy bear around.
Yvonne, a lifelong member of Our Mother Mercy Catholic Church, attended Saint Philomena Catholic School (later known as Father Sweeney Catholic School) and graduated eight grade in May of 1946. She attended Randolph High School where she was a member of the Girls Varsity Basketball team and graduated in May 1950 as the Salutatorian in her class.
Yvonne was married to the late Curtis J. Fields Sr. on June 3, 1951. In October of 1952, their son Curtis Jr. was born in Blackstone, VA at Camp Pickett. During Curtis Sr. military career, they lived in Augusta, Georgia; Karlsruhe, Germany and Tacoma, Washington before settling back in Pass Christian, Mississippi for good in 1964.
While her husband continued his military career, she spent her time helping her nieces and nephews with starting school. In 1953 her passion for cosmetology led her to attend the Andrews Cosmetology School. When she passed her state board in Jackson, MS, her dad built her a place to service her clients from 8AM – 8PM daily except on Sundays when she attended mass. She worked for Pass Christian Garment Industries for a number of years and later under the encouragement of her friend Myrtle Antoine Ashley, applied and was hired on as a school crossing guard for the city of Pass Christian for 10 years. Her hobbies were playing the keyboard, sewing and dancing. She was a true servant to the people and very giving of her time without any expectations in return. Delivering food and gifts to the elderly, taking the sick to doctors’ appointments, visiting nursing homes, helping with repast, shuttling neighborhood children and caring for her grand and great-grandchildren were some of the things she was known for. She was also the caretaker for her mother Selina and brother Donald (Sing) for many years.
As a dedicated member of Our Mother Mercy Catholic Church, she sang in the adult choir and served as musician for them briefly, helped with the children’s First Communion classes, devoted her time to the bazaars and was a faithful member of the Knights of St. Peter Claver Ladies Auxiliary Court 26 for over 50 years.
She was preceded in death by her parents Arthur and Selina Salvant Henry; her husband, Curtis J Fields Sr.; three brothers, Christopher Henry, Clayton Henry and Donald Henry; and twin sisters, Frances Henry and Delores Lawson. Yvonne is survived by her son Curtis J. Fields Jr. of Pass Christian, Mississippi; sister, Carolyn Watts of Atlanta, Georgia; grandson, Curtis Fields III of Pass Christian; granddaughters, Granduer (Richard) James of Gulfport, Mississippi, Violet (Alvin) Harris of Nolensville, Tennessee, seven great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends

An angel lived among us, A gift from God above. She showered us with kindness. And shared with us her love. She cherished every moment. With the family who was her life. Walking hand in hand together, Facing life with all its strife. She loved everyone dearly, Each one a different way, Nestled close within her heart. Though, now, she’s far away. She’s gone to live with Jesus. But she’s here with us today, Smiling down on every one of us, And telling us she’s okay.
