Although his career had many facets, he primarily served as an industrial designer in the eyeglass business. Dr. Cheryl A. Berne - Unknown - December 28, 2020

Departed: 12/28/2020 (Reading)
Obituary Preview: 2020 saved its worst for last by taking the life of Cheryl after a very rapid battle with cancer. She is survived by her parents, Sylvia and James Young of Phoenixville, PA, her sister Linda Kramer, her loving husband Douglas Berne, her daughters Candace Kronen and Lianne Berne, and her granddaughter Sage Kronen (age 2).
Cheryl was raised in Phoenixville. After graduating Villa Maria Academy in 1980, she attended LaSalle College (now University) where she met her future husband Douglas and shared many formative experiences. After graduating college, she attended medical school and residency in pathology at Penn State Hershey where her daughters were born. After serving as chief resident, she moved to Wyomissing, PA where she lived ever since, working for Biological Specialties Corporation (now BioIVT) as medical director.
She was a prolific reader, who routinely read over 200 books annually in every genre. She was a dedicated mother, spending hours as a "horse-show mom" to the barn’s show team, a "marching band mom", a Girl Scout leader and Service Unit Manager, and a surrogate mother to many of our daughters' friends. She always had snacks, water, and most importantly, sunscreen for everyone. Cheryl was instrumental in organizing her daughters’ weddings in 2015 and 2018. The birth of her granddaughter Sage was a highlight of her life, as she had someone new with whom to share her love of reading and nature. Prior to the pandemic, she enjoyed travelling to see family and made a point to regularly visit her late grandmother as well as her parents and sister in Phoenixville.
Cheryl spent her last few weeks surrounded by her daughters and granddaughter each day, while still working remotely. Her passing took place at home, surrounded by family members and dogs, as peacefully as one could hope.
Her boundless energy and quick laugh brightened the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing her. She will be sorely missed.

Debra Maute - Unknown - September 05, 2020

Departed: 09/05/2020 (Reading)
Obituary Preview: Debra Maute escaped the mortal realm on Saturday, September 5, 2020 at the age of 60, after a year-long battle with cancer. She fought valiantly, but ultimately passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family.
Deb was world-renowned for being incredibly stubborn. In fact, the doctors said she had minutes to live, but she spent hours recounting stories with her family, and telling as many people as she could that she loved them. She was genuine to fault, had an immensely positive outlook on life, and had a laugh and jokes that could make anyone smile, even in the worst of times. She loved without holding anything back and believed in the simple motto “be kind.”
She instilled many lessons in the people around her: to be unapologetically yourself, to work hard for what you want and not let anyone stand in the way, to never take yourself so seriously that you forget to laugh, and to show everyone compassion.
She is survived by her mother Joan Bergstresser, father Eugene Bergstresser, sisters Cindy Nowotarski, Barb Dietrich and Janet Bergstresser, her husband of thirty-five years Steve, two children, Tyler and Sara Maute, two spare children that her kids found along the way, Kathleen and Seth, two grand-cats that she tried to love, four grand-dogs that she actually loved, two spoiled grand-bunnies that took a piece of her heart (and a piece of her shirt), and many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends who will all miss her dearly. She will be cremated, and her ashes will be spread by her family via hot-air balloon, as requested by Deb, in order to have her children “confront their fear of heights.”
A “Celebration of Life” will be held in the spring. Date and time to be determined. The family asks that attendees refrain from wearing black, or other funeral attire, and bring their favorite memories of Deb.
