After retiring from Borg Warner, he spent his time with family and friends. He was always busy doing something. His greatest joys were family, friends, working on cars, racing cars at the racetrack, get away fishing trips to Canada, and helping neighbors or anyone in need. Most especially though he enjoyed spending time at his lake cottage on Diamond Lake. He enjoyed fishing, chatting with neighbors, or just sitting on the porch watching the sun rise and set over the lake. Whether sitting on the porch or roasting hot dogs and marshmallows over the campfire, he would share stories of coming to the cottage with his parents and grandparents. We would listen to his tales of all his youthful hijinks weaving in stories of himself, Linda and the boys coming to the lake and all their mischief. He was most happy to see his grandchildren and great grandchildren run, laugh, swim, and fish just as he did as a child. Happy to know that it would be enjoyed by generations to come, making memories to keep a lifetime. He will be missed by all that knew and loved him, especially his family.

Departed: 05/02/2024 (Marion)
Obituary Preview: Beverly Jean (Curtis) Bartel was born on Aug 17th, 1944, in Elwood Indiana to Hilda and Bill Curtis. She was an only child and spent much of her time as youth with her aunts from her mother’s side of the family the Robertsons, all of which had many children that she enjoyed being around and she thought of as brothers and sisters.  She married young to Steve Jernigan and moved to Calif and had her surviving Son David Jernigan there at the Marine Corps Base, Camp Pendleton, California.
Beverly had a lot of turmoil in her young life.  She didn't finish High School before getting married. She later got her Ged. and through the years various other certifications and accreditations. She had four careers throughout her life.  She always excelled through hard work and tenacity, usually ending up in charge of things if she was there long enough. She often worked 2 jobs. Beverly frequently worked evenings as a waitress/bartender or in the catering industry.
She was an accountant starting with smaller companies rising to be an auditor for Hilton hotels in the 80's where she traveled around the country auditing the various locations.  One of her points of great pride while at the Hilton was surviving an IRS audit with no penalties.
Beverley briefly got into nursing and was a CNA on the trauma floor of Scottsdale Memorial hospital in Arizona and worked as an in-home caregiver as well.
Later she got into real estate and property management. She managed Apartment complexes and sold condominiums locally and in Arizona. Another point of great pride for her was keeping her complex in Arizona at 100% occupancy. She was also an innovator coming up with new methods to market and keep units rented in the off season and she loved her teams.  She was a great manager and team leader with the right amount of toughness and compassion. Beverly was able to train others to be leaders too, as many of her staff went on to manage their own properties.
Too late in life she reconnected with the love of her life David Bartel and married him for the second time.  Their short time together was the happiest time of her life. Being a wife, camping, fishing, golfing, and volunteering at the local American Legion Post #10, and American Legion Post # 10 Auxiliary.
After Husband David's passing, she retired to Arizona to be with her surviving family. After years of bad health, beating Lung Cancer 2 times, it was ultimately a fall and broken bones she was not able to recover from. She passed peacefully in her Arizona home with family around her.

Delores Habiby - October 23, 1932 - April 26, 2024

Departed: 04/26/2024 (Marion)
Obituary Preview: Delores Joy (Feighner) Habiby, 91, passed on to eternal life at home in Marion, IN with loved ones surrounding her.  Delores was born in Marion, IN, the daughter of the late DeLoss Henry Feighner and the late Mildred (Bowers) Feighner Herman.  Delores was the youngest of the two sisters and preceded in death by her sister Patricia Ann (Feighner) Farrell.
Delores was a graduate of St. Paul Catholic High School and attended Marian College in Indianapolis, IN studying liberal arts.  She transferred to Mount Saint Joseph in Cincinnati, OH and lived in Cincinnati, OH working at Jackson Box, Gruen Watch, and a placement agency.  She decided to move to and work in Houston, TX.  She returned to Marion, IN and worked at the Veterans Administration for the Psychiatric Evaluation Project then moved to Manchester, NH prior to getting married.  She worked at the license office.  She married the late Elias Jamil Habiby at St. Paul Catholic Church, Marion, IN,  August 2, 1958 and moved to Sanford, ME where son, John Jamil Habiby (1959) was born.  The family moved to Long Island, NY where sons James DeLoss Habiby (1961) and Jeffrey Francis Habiby (1963), and daughter Mary Genevieve Habiby (1967) were born.  Delores moved back to Marion, IN with the four children in 1971.  She worked at Marion Municipal Utilities, retired from Marion Community Schools after 21 years of classroom teaching service focusing on special education, and successfully raised four children.
Delores was first and foremost guided by her faith, and it was unwavering.  She was a prayer warrior for so many.  She was a parishioner of St. Paul Catholic Church, started the Blue Army prayer group, and was a member of the Altar and Rosary Society.  Sunday Mass, Holy Days of Obligation, First Friday Benediction, Saturday morning Blue Army rosary prayer group, and wearing her scapular were rituals of her deep faith.
Delores loved swinging on the front porch and taking rides in the country.  She spent time visiting with family at Buckeye Lake, OH; Lake Wawasee, IN; and North Webster, IN throughout the years.  Visiting Brown County, IN in the fall and having picnics in the park were annual events.  She enjoyed traveling to Massachusetts, Michigan, South Carolina, Ohio, and Florida. “Grandma Dee Dee” was known for always having some sort of candy or chocolate in her pocket for the grandkids to pull out.  When being photographed with them, she would often turn her head just so and give a certain look known as her “model pose.”  St. Patrick’s Day was your lucky day to receive a phone call and hear her sing “Oh Danny Boy.” As whimsical as she could be, she was also a voracious reader and lifelong learner often found taking college courses just for the sake of learning: chemistry, Russian and Eastern European History, sociology, and nursing courses.
Delores was naturally talented in the arts.  She enjoyed music and loved Tony Bennett seeing him in concert as well as Liberace.  Delores could often be found playing the piano by ear entertaining those around her with some of her favorites “Alfie," "Girl from Ipanema,” and “On a Clear Day.”  She enjoyed drawing and painting.  Whether she was creating murals on the children’s bedroom wall or exploring watercolors on canvas, she always had a vision.  She won fourth place in the Indiana State Fair Exhibition in 2001 for her watercolor painting named “Rhapsody in Color” and had an exhibit in the Indiana State Fair of her watercolor painting called “Adam and Eve” in 2002.  From a very young age she wrote poetry.  It was a very natural skill since she witnessed her mother often writing words and music to many songs.  She was a published poet in 2014 in This Time Around  with her poem “The Bell” inspired by walking on a beautiful spring morning with a heavenly bell sound vibrating from every direction.  It lifted her spirits and made her feel as if she had left the earth and was headed for the clouds.  It was a most delightful experience, which she has tried to share in her imaginative poetry.  Over the years, she found her poetry changing from rather serious and introspective to a more lighthearted and sometimes humorous style.  Upon arising one morning, she found herself wondering if our first parents were like most of us.  Did they get tired doing the same things every day?  Did they ever think about leaving the Garden and long for a change of scenery?  Her mind took flight.  Hence, in 2015 “Restless in Paradise” came tumbling out of her and was published in Who’s Who in American Poetry.  She was also published in Best Poets of 2016 with her poem “Hanging On” about a little rose she would watch from the joy of her front porch beyond the windowpane just hanging on through the forces of Mother Nature.
Delores was preceded in death by her son James DeLoss Habiby {Ollie (Baker) Habiby Krall} in 2007 and is survived by her honorary daughter, friend and caretaker Debra Roser; sons John Habiby (Teresa Habiby), Jeffrey Habiby (Nan Habiby); and daughter Mary Habiby-Lucchese(Matt Lucchese). Six grandchildren: Kristy Habiby, Megan (Habiby) Ball, Grace Lucchese-Brooks, Dominic Lucchese, Jorden Habiby, and Emma Lucchese. Five great grandchildren: Sophia Toliver, Brooklyn Ball, Kalena Thomas, Turzo Lucchese-Brooks, and Ivy Jay Habiby.
A special thank you to all the family and friends, Stillwater Hospice, Gentle Hearts, and Chris Ailes Agency for the prayers, love, support, and care of Delores and her family throughout these difficult times.
Visitation will be Wednesday, May 1, 2024 11:00AM-12:00PM followed by a Rosary Service and Funeral Mass all held at St. Paul Catholic Church in Marion, IN with Father Ted Rothrock officiating.  Burial will follow mass at Grant Memorial Cemetery.

The lights of her life, Donna had 20 grandkids and 6 great grandkids who called her “Nana”. According to her, they were the most amazing, smart, funny, talented, and loving group of kids. She loved watching them excel in their many sports, taking them to the movies, camping in Chincoteague, hosting sleepovers, and playing board games with them. She would share stories with anyone who would listen about how funny, smart, and kind her grandbabies were. From the ones who are now adults, having their own babies, to the ones she will never get to meet, her memory will live on through them: Daniel, Brandon, Jacob, Jasmine, Conner, Logan, Luna, Josie, Oliver, Max, Mason, Makenzy, Gracie, Haylee, Ethan, Morgan, Emma, Zane, Milo, Cyrus, Elliott, Jasper, Juliet, Ezra, Elias, Arabelle, and the future children of her loving son, Nicholas (Ashley) Shook.
Donna is preceded in death by her mom, Pam Shook; sister, Carla Stevens; nephew, Matthew Edwards; stepfathers Xen and Fred; and grandparents, Helen and Eddy.
She is survived by her husband, John Shook; her children, Amber (Hans) Huber, Chanda Boyd, Brandon (Jennifer) Shook, Christa (Bruno) Sokic, Cory (Jaymie) Shook, Ashlee (Chad) Dixon, Holly (Mike) McGriff, and Nicholas (Ashley) Shook; her sisters and brother, Melinda (Daryl) Duchaine, Vicky (David) Sparks, and Tony Miller; as well as her many nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at Raven Choate Robinson Funeral Home on Wednesday, April 17th. There will be a viewing for the public from 11am – 1pm, followed by a private service and burial for the immediate family. If you wish to make a donation in lieu of flowers, the family requests that you do so to Riley Children’s Hospital or Toys for Tots.

Why are obituaries important?

Obituaries serve as a way to inform friends, family, and community members of a person's passing, allowing them to pay their respects and offer condolences. They also provide a lasting tribute to the deceased, preserving their memory and legacy.

Who typically writes an obituary?

Obituaries are usually written by family members or close friends of the deceased, although they can also be written by funeral home staff or professional writers. In some cases, the deceased may have written their own obituary in advance.

How long should an obituary be?

The length of an obituary can vary depending on the publication or online platform. Traditional newspaper obituaries are often limited to 100-200 words, while online obituaries can be longer and more detailed.
