LeRoy Jaggers - September 15, 1942 - March 30, 2024

Departed: 03/30/2024 (Jeffersontown)
Obituary Preview: With hearts full of love and sadness, the family of LeRoy Jaggers announces his peaceful passing on Saturday, March 30th, 2024, at his home in Jeffersontown, Kentucky. LeRoy was born on September 15, 1942, in Upton, Kentucky to Roy and Myrtle Jaggers. Ten years later he became a big brother to Eddie, then ten years after that, to his sister, Fran. He spoke of train rides as a young boy between Elizabethtown and Louisville as well as Elizabethtown and Nashville to pass the time! His father worked with the railroad so these trips were free and under the watchful eye of his railroad friends. LeRoy graduated from Elizabethtown High School in Hardin County in 1961. Enjoying athletics, he played basketball and ran track in high school. He ran the 100yd dash in 10.2 seconds holding the regional record for many years. He was also proud of the fact that as a freshman during basketball practices he guarded Eddie Mason, who was a senior and went on to play for UK.
LeRoy met his wife of 51 years, Diana “Brownie” Frances Hawkins, on a blind date! Another couple was to join them but was unable to at the last minute. Being a man of his word, he continued with the date, meeting Diana and her father for the first time, when he picked her up. Being part of the Hawkins clan gave LeRoy the camaraderie and fun that comes with a big family. Diana had five siblings who dearly loved practical jokes and LeRoy was thrilled to be a part of the action. The newlyweds lost no time starting a family, being blessed with two boys. Raising Mark and Kevin and the friendships they nurtured with them as adults was their greatest joy. LeRoy was an active part in all the boys’ activities. They saw him as a loving and supportive dad that provided encouragement for whatever they chose to do. LeRoy spent hours at Jeffersontown High School supporting the school through the Booster Club. When not at the school, you might have found him and Diana out square dancing! Their legacy of love, truth, integrity, and doing what is right will be felt for generations of Jaggerses.
LeRoy worked at American Standard for 20 years (1968-1988) in the computer area, entering data using paper punch cards! He also served in the Army Reserve for a short time. Taking on the role of entrepreneur, he owned and operated a convenience store and pizzeria in White Mills, Kentucky (1989 – 1994). He enjoyed the creativity of pizza-making searching for just the right recipe – it was a darn good pizza! Diana even learned to “throw” the pizza dough! He embraced the White Mills community and business ownership with a full heart. After Mark became ill with cancer, he gave up the store to help the family through its toughest storm. He began work in Security at Baptist Hospital East and then Materials Management (1994 - 2015), retiring in 2015. Meeting his Baptist buddies monthly for breakfast was a much-anticipated event for him. Jaggers’ Dinner on Sundays is a priority for everyone in the family, but especially for LeRoy. He often spoke of how much he looked forward to this time together -- his highlight of the week. It began many years ago at their home on Shanna Drive where the family would gather. The favorite menu was DJ’s Easy Supper, mashed potatoes, Green Giant shoepeg corn with butter sauce (frozen section), and yeast rolls. Sunday evenings together are still a priority but mostly spent at a favorite restaurant now. Most recently, LeRoy acted as emcee in the Family Feud card game during these dinners! Anyone that knew LeRoy knew that he was a friend to everyone and he left a lasting legacy of kindness and a gentle nature that made the world a better place. His grandchildren Meredith, Colin, Hank, Duvall and Charlotte (great-granddaughter), and Baby Jaggers on-the-way (great grandbaby) knew this friendship and kindness well. He was always quick to give a kiss and an “I love you.” A $20 bill was always left on top of his refrigerator in case one of the kids needed it and he wasn’t home. LeRoy made the other women in his life, Becky and Tandee, feel as if they were his daughters, always loving, protective and caring. Holding a place of honor in LeRoy’s heart were the newest additions to the family, Greg, Tyler, and Natalie, adopting these special people as his own. They have increased the street credibility of our family greatly!
Reminiscent of how he lived his whole life, he found pleasure in the simple things in his later years. Sitting on the porch on Wednesday evenings with his neighbors, Jim and Kim, sipping “Brownie Wine”, playing golf, playing the banjo, playing golf, bee keeping with Greg and Tyler, playing golf, and a minimum twice weekly visit to his favorite restaurant, Cracker Barrel, with his favorite server, Carol. One of his biggest frustrations in life was being unable to keep the Jaggers’ Cup that was awarded to the winner of golf matches between himself and his son, Kevin. *It must also be noted that even though LeRoy used a walker, he was not allowed to play from the senior tee during these competitions until just recently. He was generous not only with his love and time but with his talent and treasure. He was not a slave to money and saw it as a means to help others. God granted us a heads up that our time with LeRoy was limited. Diagnosed with esophageal cancer in November, we were blessed with a few more precious months to say the things that needed to be said. In true LeRoy style, he wanted everyone to know, that if you screwed him over during his life, he forgives you. If he screwed you over, he hopes you find it in your heart to forgive him. It is only fitting to end this tribute with the words he always said when parting ways, “Be good.”
His funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, April 5, 2024 at Ratterman & Sons Funeral Home – Jeffersontown 10600 Taylorsville Road with burial to follow at Jeffersontown Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 p.m. – 8 p.m. on Thursday. Memorial gifts and prayers may be made to Fisher House Foundation, Inc. P.O. Box 791598 Baltimore, MD 21279 or Hand in Hand Ministries 518 N. 26th Street Louisville, KY 40212

Pat Brierly - September 05, 1963 - March 07, 2024

Departed: 03/07/2024 (Jeffersontown)
Obituary Preview: Dale "Pat" Brierly, also known as the Best Cheer, Archery, Dance, Soccer, and Disney Dad, has left an indelible mark on the hearts of all who knew him. With profound sadness, we announce his passing, surrounded by his beloved family, on Thursday, March 7, 2024.
Pat's life was a testament to love, family, and adventure. Pat graduated from PRP High School and from the U of L Speed School with a master’s in civil engineering. He put this knowledge to good use and was proud of his work accomplished in Afghanistan. He worked hard to provide for his family to ensure that his wife could stay home with the girls and raise them.
Pat's devotion to his wife, Kim, and their children was unparalleled. Their love story, which began with a chance meeting at Kim's sister's Halloween party, blossomed into a lifelong partnership filled with love, laughter, and countless memories. In fact, Pat was the first to say, “I love you” to Kim while they were dating. Their marriage, sealed in the magical surroundings of Walt Disney World on June 1, 2000, was a testament to their enduring bond and shared dreams.
Pat found joy in the simple pleasures of life, whether it was cheering on his children in their various activities and helping with homework, sharing his love of baseball and soccer with his son, Andrew; enjoying Caitlin’s fresh baked cookies; or exploring with Isabel. It was the girls though that had him wrapped around their fingers from the moment they were born and he embraced his title of “The Best Girl Dad” ever. Summer days were often spent lounging by the pool enjoying chocolate ice cream or any of the activities the girls could imagine.
An avid traveler, Pat found solace in the wonders of the world around him. From camping under the stars to hiking, fishing and hunting; he cherished every moment spent in nature's embrace. Pat's kindness and generosity knew no bounds, and he was always there to lend a helping hand to family and friends in need.
In his final days, Pat found comfort in savoring his wife's cheesy broccoli soup as he was tenderly cared for by his daughter, Isabel, while Kim was at work and Caitlin was at school.
Pat will be warmly remembered by all who knew him, but especially missed by: his loving wife of 24 years, Kim Brierly; daughters, Isabel and Caitlin Brierly; son, Andrew Livingston (Shayna); grandchildren, Camryn, Rhett, and Owen; and sisters, Dawn Summers and Deana Brierly. Also, sharing in his legacy are numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and great-nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Kathy Brierly; brother, Danny Brierly; and nephew, Jacob Tipton.

Why are obituaries important?

Obituaries serve as a way to honor and remember the deceased, while also providing important information to those who knew them. They allow friends and family to pay their respects, share condolences, and celebrate the life of the person who has passed.

Who typically writes an obituary?

The responsibility of writing an obituary often falls on the family members or close friends of the deceased. Funeral homes or obituary writers may also assist in crafting the obituary.

What information should be included in an obituary?

A typical obituary includes the deceased's name, age, date of birth and death, place of residence, occupation, education, hobbies, achievements, and surviving family members. It may also include details about the funeral service, memorial donations, or other relevant information.

How long does it take to write an obituary?

The time it takes to write an obituary can vary depending on the complexity and length of the notice. On average, it can take anywhere from 30 minutes to several hours to craft a well-written and comprehensive obituary.

Can I include photos in an obituary?

Yes, many online obituary platforms and newspapers allow you to include one or more photos of the deceased in the obituary. This can help personalize the notice and provide a visual tribute to the person who has passed.
