Mark Newton - September 02, 1950 - April 13, 2022

Departed: 04/13/2022 (Noblesville)
Obituary Preview: Mark Newton, 71, of Noblesville, IN was born September 2, 1950 in Louisville, KY.   Unbeknownst to him, the love of his life (and future wife) was born just a few hours later, and they shared space in the same nursery.   It took some time for the plot of this love story to develop, but Mark and Pam (Bauer) were married in 1969 and basically inseparable since.  Together, they raised a family in Louisville before moving to the Indianapolis area in 2005.  Their 50th Anniversary in 2019 was a celebration of mutual love, life well-lived, family and friends. Mark had a passion for details and was hard-working.  He started a family at a young age and worked at night while going to school and supporting his growing family.  His hard work paid off with Bachelor (1982) and Master (1992) degrees from the University of Louisville.  He spent most of his career in the automotive industry, including 31 years at Ford Motor Company in Louisville before positions with Yazaki North America and Siemens (retiring in 2017).  Mark was a 28 year veteran of the U.S. Coast Guard Reserve retiring as a Lieutenant Commander in 1996.  He was proud of his time in the Coast Guard and the people he met while serving.  Mark was a patriot and loved this country and the freedoms/opportunities it stands for.  Semper Paratus!
Not one to sit still, Mark ALWAYS had a project… more times than not, he was doing something in a workshop with wood OR building/fixing something.   Pam was ALWAYS at his side as a willing participant and capable assistant (even with her own tool belt!).   When he wasn’t working, doing a project, or traveling to see family, he loved being on the pristine waters of beautiful Lake Cumberland in southern Kentucky.  Truly God’s Country.  Mark was known to have a quick wit, charm, and lively (perhaps sometimes mildly inappropriate) sense of humor - all of which were enhanced by an evening bourbon cocktail.
Mark was preceded in death by his father (Joseph), his mother (Mabel), and his sister (Lynn).    He is survived by his wife and companion of nearly 53 years, Pam, his 3 children, Chris (Stephanie), Geoffrey (Holly) and Jennifer, and 5 grandchildren, Emma, Charlie, Andrew, Thomas, and Ethan.    He is also survived by his sister, Ann (Tom), his brother, Wes (Lori), and his Favorite Aunt Barbara, Favorite Aunt Ann, and Favorite Aunt Thelma, sister-in-law, Jan, brother-in-law, Michael (Dee), and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Mark passed peacefully on April 13, 2022 after a lengthy and progressive battle with Dementia.   He spent the last 9 months in the Grand Brook Memory Care facility in Noblesville, IN and the family thanks the staff for their care and compassion.  They also express deep gratitude to Heartland Hospice for their support and guidance.
Mass will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, April 25, 2022 at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, 9900 East 191st Street in Noblesville.  Visitation will be from 9:30 am to the time of service at the church.

Obituary Preview: Jerry Lee Wooldridge passed away unexpectedly on Monday, March 28, 2022 at IU Saxony Hospital.  Jerry was born to Guy and Chloe Wooldridge on October 11, 1944 in Anderson, Indiana.
Jerry was a tool and die maker for Guide Lamp for 36 years before retiring in 1999.  Jerry’s greatest treasure was his wife, Diana (Dragoo) Wooldridge.  They were the definition of a true love story; Jerry and Diana were high school sweethearts at Anderson Highland High School and Jerry made Diana his wife on July 18, 1964.  They were a match made in heaven. It didn’t matter what it was, if it involved his kids or grandkids, he was there.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is an obituary?

An obituary is a written notice that announces the death of a person, typically including their name, age, date of birth and death, and other biographical information. It may also include details about their life, accomplishments, and surviving family members.

Why are obituaries important?

Obituaries serve as a way to notify friends, family, and community members of a person's passing, allowing them to pay their respects and offer condolences. They also provide a sense of closure and help to celebrate the life of the deceased.

Who writes an obituary?

Typically, a family member or close friend of the deceased writes the obituary. In some cases, a funeral home or mortuary may assist with writing the obituary or provide a template for the family to fill out.

What information should be included in an obituary?

A typical obituary includes the person's name, age, date of birth and death, place of residence, occupation, education, military service, hobbies, and surviving family members. It may also include information about the funeral or memorial service.

How long should an obituary be?

The length of an obituary can vary, but it's generally recommended to keep it concise and focused on the most important details. Aim for 1-2 paragraphs at most.

Can I include photos in an obituary?

Yes, many newspapers and online obituary platforms allow you to include one or more photos with the obituary. This can be a nice way to personalize the tribute and make it more meaningful.

How do I submit an obituary to a newspaper?

Contact the newspaper's obituary department directly to find out their submission guidelines and deadlines. Some newspapers may have online forms or email addresses for submitting obituaries.

Can I write my own obituary?

Yes, some people choose to write their own obituary in advance as a way to ensure that their life story is told accurately and authentically. This can also be a therapeutic exercise in reflecting on one's life and legacy.

What is the difference between an obituary and a death notice?

A death notice is a brief announcement of a person's passing, usually including only the most basic information such as name, age, and date of death. An obituary is a longer, more detailed tribute that celebrates the person's life and accomplishments.

Can I include humor or anecdotes in an obituary?

Absolutely! Obituaries don't have to be somber or serious. Including humorous stories or anecdotes can help capture the personality and spirit of the deceased.

How do I handle sensitive or private information in an obituary?

If there are sensitive or private details that you're unsure about including in the obituary, it's best to err on the side of caution and omit them. Remember that the goal of an obituary is to honor and celebrate the person's life, not to air dirty laundry or reveal secrets.

Can I include charitable donations or memorial information in an obituary?

Yes, many families choose to include information about charitable donations or memorial funds in lieu of flowers. This can be a meaningful way to continue the person's legacy and support a cause they cared about.

How long does it take for an obituary to be published?

The timeframe for publishing an obituary varies depending on the newspaper or online platform. Some may publish immediately, while others may take several days or even weeks.

Can I edit or update an obituary after it's been published?

In some cases, yes. If you need to make corrections or updates to an obituary after it's been published, contact the newspaper or online platform directly to see what options are available.

Are online obituaries permanent?

Most online obituaries are archived permanently and can be accessed years later. However, it's always a good idea to save a copy of the obituary for your own records.

Can I share an obituary on social media?

Yes! Sharing an obituary on social media can help spread the word quickly and reach a wider audience. Many online obituary platforms provide sharing tools or links to make it easy to share on Facebook, Twitter, and other platforms.

What if I want to write an anonymous obituary?

In general, it's not recommended to write an anonymous obituary. Obituaries are meant to be personal tributes from those who knew and loved the deceased. If you're concerned about privacy or safety issues, consider speaking with a funeral home or counselor for guidance.

Can I include quotes or lyrics in an obituary?

Absolutely! Quotes, lyrics, or poems can add depth and meaning to an obituary. Choose something that resonates with the person's personality or spirit.

How do I handle multiple marriages or complicated family relationships in an obituary?

This can be a delicate situation. When dealing with multiple marriages or complicated family relationships, focus on accuracy and sensitivity. Consider consulting with other family members or a funeral home for guidance.

Can I include information about pets in an obituary?

Yes! Many people consider their pets to be part of their family. Including information about beloved pets can add warmth and personality to the obituary.

What if I'm struggling to write an obituary due to grief or emotional distress?

If you're finding it difficult to write an obituary due to grief or emotional distress, consider reaching out to a trusted friend or family member for support. You can also seek guidance from a funeral home or counselor who can provide guidance and resources.

Can I use humor or irony in an obituary?

Absolutely! Humor and irony can be effective ways to celebrate a person's life and personality. Just be sure to keep it respectful and tasteful.

How do I ensure that an online obituary is accurate and up-to-date?

Maintain open communication with the online platform or funeral home managing the obituary. If you notice any errors or inaccuracies, report them promptly so they can be corrected.

Can I create a digital archive of my loved one's life story?

Yes! There are many digital platforms and tools available that allow you to create a comprehensive archive of your loved one's life story, including photos, videos, stories, and more.

What if I want to write multiple versions of an obituary for different audiences?

This is not uncommon! You may want to write one version for close friends and family, another for coworkers or acquaintances. Just be sure to tailor each version appropriately for its intended audience.
