Obituary Preview: James “Jim” Michael Haugh, 62, of Cairo, WV, departed this life on Saturday, May 18, 2024, at his residence.
Jim was born September 2, 1961 in Parkersburg, WV, a son of Wayne Haugh and the late Eva Nell “Peg” (Cunningham) Haugh. He was a graduate of Harrisville High School with the class of 1979. Jim worked in the oil field, he served as the co-owner of the Ellenboro Exxon for many years, worked at the former Queue Systems of Wood County, operated a body shop in Glendale, WV and at last he retired from the Ritchie County Dept. of Highways.
Jim greatly enjoyed restoring old cars. He was currently working on his 1957 Willys Jeep. He enjoyed “picking”, he recently tried his hand at wine making, hunting and fishing, and collecting old Cairo artifacts, bottles, marbles, and license plates. He was well known for his original saying that are referred to as “Jimisms” and his unique picked items.
In addition to his father, he is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Joyce (Region) Haugh; son, Chance Haugh and wife Heather, mother-in-law, Mona Region; brothers and sisters, David Haugh (Sherry), Sue Nichols, Gary Haugh (Debbie), and Mark Haugh (Barbara), along with his sidekick, Bailey, and his loving nieces, nephews, friends, and brother and sister in laws.
In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by his grandparents.
A memorial service to honor Jim’s life will be 7pm, Thursday, May 23, 2024, at the Raiguel Funeral Home in Harrisville, WV with Rev. Tom Hall officiating. Visitation will be from 5pm-7pm on Thursday, at the funeral home. He will be laid to rest in the Cairo Masonic Cemetery at the convenience of the family.

Obituary Preview: Wilda “June” Zavisho, 96, of Hazelgreen, WV, departed this life Friday, May 10, 2024, at Pineview Center, in Harrisville, WV.
She was born on June 25, 1927, in Hazelgreen, WV, a daughter of the late Trevy and Grace (Summer) Snodgrass.
June was a graduate of Harrisville High School with the class of 1945. She operated the Hazelgreen Grocery Store and Post Office and retired from being a Postmaster for USPS. She was a long-time member of what is now the Hazelgreen Community Church, and held the position as treasurer for decades. She enjoyed helping out at the church whenever she could. She loved sitting out on the porch listening to the wildlife and birds, and catching up with her boys. She helped raise many children in the Hazelgreen Community, and was like a mother to all.
She is survived by her children, Mark Zavisho (Harriett Fitzgerald) of Hazelgreen, WV, Brent Zavisho of Hinesville, GA, and Michael Zavisho (Annie) of Hampton, VA; grandchildren, Lia McDermott of FL, Stefani Zavisho of MA, Anthony Zavisho of GA, and Jasmyn Mize of GA; and great grandchildren, Drew Widdle, Jaylnn Cook, Tyler Mize, and Libby Mize.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Lenore Thompson, Wyolene Britton, and Thelma Davis.
A service will be held at 2pm on Thursday, May 16, 2024, at the Hazelgreen Community Church with Reverend Kevin Eakle officiating. Burial will follow in the Hazelgreen Cemetery. Visitation will take place from 12pm-2pm, prior to the service at the church.

John Michael Vanfossen - January 10, 1947 - May 10, 2024

Obituary Preview: John Michael Vanfossen, 77, of Petroleum, WV, departed this life Friday, May 10, 2024, at his residence after a courageous battle with cancer.
He was born January 10, 1947, in Parkersburg, WV, a son of the late Hoyt B. and Clara B. (Metz) Vanfossen.
John graduated from Parkersburg High School. After graduation, he worked as an auto mechanic for Breed Battery and Electric. He went on to teach at West Virginia University College as a professor for Auto Mechanic for over 4 years. John was a veteran for the United States Army, and courageously served our country in the Vietnam War. He worked in the Transportation Motor Pool as a mechanic. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, traveling to the mountain, and working on cars or anything mechanical. He loved taking care of his farm and wife Ruth, spending time outdoors watching the different wildlife of turkeys, deer and squirrel, and his two little dogs, Whitie and Silverbell.
He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Naomi “Ruth” Vanfossen; children, Thomas E. Vanfossen (Cynthia L.) of Florida, and Tina M. Ward (Victor) of North Carolina; adopted daughter, Angela L. Jones of Parkersburg, WV; stepchildren, Debbie Sprouse of Harrisville, WV and Danny McClung (Brenda); grandchildren, Naomi Ross (Ashley), River, Adam, and Josh Ross, Davin and Travis Riffle, Bobby Sprouse, Jonathan Vanfossen, Amber Swiger, Caleb McClung, Steven Smith, Skylar, Stormy, and Whitney Ward; brother, Randy Bert Vanfossen (Joyce) of Parkersburg, WV; several loving, great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his stepchild, Frankie McClung; granddaughter, Spring Sprouse; and brothers, Roy Lynn, James Edward, and Richard Wayne Vanfossen; and sister, Louetta Wilson.
A service will be held at 11am on Wednesday, May 15, 2024 at Raiguel Funeral Home in Harrisville, WV. Burial will follow in the Sunset Memorial Gardens in Parkersburg, WV. Visitation will take place from 9am-11am, prior to the service.

Phyllis was a homemaker, and enjoyed taking care of her children. She loved making cards, collecting Longaberger baskets, traveling, and sightseeing. Phyllis also liked going camping and attending church at Stephenson United Methodist Church in Parkersburg, WV when she was able to go.
She is survived by her loving children, Von Riddle II (Laura) of Parkersburg, WV, Lisa Chancey (Eddie) of Ellenboro, WV, and Lori Tate (Russ) of Harrisville, WV; grandchildren, Amanda Watson (Damion), Jennifer Unger (David), Nicholas Von Tate (Tehya), Jamie Lynn Vannoy (Zack), and William Tyler Riddle (Alicia); great grandchildren, Mataya, Maverick, Makaiyah, Daniel, and Rhiannon; sisters, Sue Ellen Cottrill of Parkersburg, WV, Nancy Anderson of Supply, NC, and Robin Elizabeth Dowler (Neil) of Washington Bottoms, WV.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her loving husband, Von Kermit Riddle and brother in laws, Bob Anderson and Chester Cottrill.
In accordance with Phyllis's wishes her services will be private. She will be laid to rest by her husband at Evergreen North Cemetery in Parkersburg, WV. Raiguel Funeral Home in Harrisville, WV is assisting the family with the arrangements.

He was born Sept. 30, 1943 at Cairo, the son of the late Edith Elliott Clevenger.
Terry was a U.S Navy Veteran of the Vietnam Era. He was a 25-year member of Carpenter Union #899 and he owned and operated The Trading Post Pawn Shop for 30 years in Harrisville. Terry started the first Karate School in Ritchie County and enjoyed hunting and riding his Harley.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Beverly Ann Elliott; sons, Joe Elliott (Lisa) of Williamstown and Scott Elliott of Cairo; daughter, Jennifer Cain (Ed) of Cairo; grandchildren, Taylor Stockner (Dylan), Zach Foster (Jenna), Connor Elliott (Chloe), Rilee Elliott, Annah Foster (Kyle Cole), Brynlee Elliott and Kayla Parsons (Chris); and four Great-Grandchildren.
According to Terry’s wishes he will be cremated. There will be a memorial covered dish dinner held at 1 PM, May 18, 2024 at Cairo Community Building, Cairo, WV.

She was born on August 7, 1929, in Salem, WV, the daughter of the late Willard and Elizabeth Martin Randolph. Mrs. McGill was a graduate of the former Salem High School and attended Salem College. In addition to being a homemaker she was the bookkeeper for McGill Farms & Trucking of Harrisville, WV. She was a member of the St. Luke’s United Methodist Church and the Harrisville Chapter of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary. She enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and her church family. Her favorite past-time with her husband was square dancing.
Billie Lee is survived by her children, James R. McGill, Pittsburgh, PA; Karen A. Woodell (Cary Mosser), Harrisville, WV; and John A. McGill (Lisa Bennett), Harrisville, WV; four grandchildren, Lori Everly (Dan), Pennsboro, WV; Julie Hilkey, Harrisville, WV; Jordan Davis (Jared), St. Marys, WV; and Malee Palmateer (Danny), St. Marys, WV; and eight great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. McGill, was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd McGill Jr. (Junior), and two sisters, Mary Jane Sargent and Barbara Jo Sands.

Richard worked as a frack operator for Universal Well Services, working in the oil and gas industry throughout his career. He enjoyed participating in Civil War Re-enactments, traveling, hunting, spending time with family, especially his granddaughter, attending the annual ATF Weekend, doing jigsaw puzzles, playing Rook and reading.
In addition to his mother he is survived by his companion, Lisa Buzzard; son, Clayton Barker (Ashley) of Glenville; brothers, Charles D. Barker (Tanya) of Harrisville and Rodney W. Barker (Pamela) of Keyser, WV; granddaughter, Cynthia Barker and special step-granddaughter Wyllow Hale.
He was preceded in death by his father and brother Henry “Hank” Barker.

He enjoyed everything outdoors from hunting, fishing, kayaking, camping, shooting guns, and working on his dump truck. Matthew was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone.
He is survived by his wife, Darlene Stevens, of Harrisville, WV; children, Wesley Stevens of Hagerstown, MD, Ashley Stevens (Tyler) of Berkeley Springs, WV, and Matthew Stevens Jr. (Nikki) of PA; stepchildren, Randall Echard (Kelly) and Kyle Echard (Maddie) all of Harrisville, WV; grandchildren, Hailey, Hannah, Nicholas, Maria, Archer, Mackenzie, Kameron, and Keagan; siblings, twin brother, Mark Stevens (Diane), Christy Stevens, Laura Stevens, Rebecca Evartt (Charles), John Stevens (Amanda), Luke Stevens (Katrina), Ben Stevens (Raven), Samuel Stevens (Kate), and Tommy Stevens; 17 nephews, and 11 nieces; and several loving friends.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 52 years, Carol Ann (Furr) Simmons, his daughters: Lisa and Mark Freeland, Rachel Ann and Justin Bartlett, eight grandchildren: Kyle Bartlett, Mark and Brooke Freeland, Caitlin Paige Freeland, Austin Bartlett, Jase Bartlett, Payton Bartlett, Caycee Bartlett, two great-grandchildren: Avery Bartlett, and Sawyer Bartlett. He had one brother, Kenneth Simmons, and eight sisters. Carol grew up on Mellon Ridge, Harrisville, West Virginia, as the son of the late Arnold Burl and Margaret Simmons.
Carol was a proud and dedicated husband, father, and grandfather who always spoke proudly of his loving family. He loved wholeheartedly and selflessly. A Vietnam War veteran, Carol received several medals including the Bronze Star Medal and Silver Star Medal.
A memorial service will be held at 7 PM, Friday, April 5, 2024 at Raiguel Funeral Home, Harrisville with Pastor Mike Hardbarger officiating. Friends may visit at the funeral home Friday from 4-7 PM.

She is survived by daughter, Annette Maze Moore (Derrick) of Morgantown; sister, Ella Busch Lilly (David) of Washington, WV; and brother, Fred Brown Busch (Virginia “Toots”) of Petroleum, WV.
Linda was preceded in death by her husband Billie Wayne Maze; brothers, Robert Brown Busch and Roger Lee Busch; and grandchildren, Chris Moore and Joshua Moore.
Funeral services will be held at 1 PM, Friday, March 29, 2024 at Harrison Street Church, Harrisville, WV with Pastor Mike Hardbarger and Rev. John Frum officiating. Boyd leaves behind his beloved wife and friend, Cammran M. Hood. Boyd spent many years working various jobs. He was very skilled in many things.
He is survived by his wife Cammran Hood; children, Tracy Hood (Tabitha) and Dustin Kirby (Stephanie); both of Smithville; one granddaughter, Aleah Hood; and sister Debbie Bush of Normantown.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Alonzo (Lonnie) Hood; his mother, Leah Hood and his maternal grandmother, Olive Richards.
Per his request, he will be cremated by Raiguel Funeral Home, Harrisville with a memorial service to be held at a later date.

Ralph is survived by his wife, Sandra Sue Blankenship; children, Trissa Hatfield (Dallas) of Auburn, WV and John Blankenship (Letha) of Harrisville; brothers, Ronald Blankenship (Frankie) and Calvin Blankenship (April) all of Cyclone, WV and Silas Blankenship (Pam) and Roger Blankenship (Debbie) all of Harrisville, WV; grandchildren, Dallas, Jr. Hatfield, Kathryn Hatfield; and adopted grandchildren Amber Ball, Danielle Sheets and Bridget Bryant; and ten great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Lonnie Blankenship, Arthur Blankenship and Bilton Blankenship.
Funeral services will be held at 1 PM, Sunday, March 24, 2024 at Pullman Church of God. The family will have a visitation in the family home on Brushy Fork, Saturday from 4-8 PM and Sunday from 12-1 PM at the church. Burial will follow in the Blankenship Cemetery.

She was born on May 23, 1939 on Indian Creek, Beatrice, WV the second child of the late Coy Gail Moyers and Esther L. Wright Moyers Morris Reidenbach.
She worked 24 years in the sewing factories of Ritchie County. She was an avid quilter who donated quilts for fund raisers. One of the first square dancers in Ritchie County called the Ritchie County Wheels. One of the first EMT of Ritchie County with 37 years of service. Founding member of the Smithville Community Association. Member of the Smithville United Methodist Church.
Surviving are her children, Venus Lee Byrd of Smithville, WV, Vicki Lynn (Russell) Jones of Big Springs, WV, Vonda Lorree (Edward) Furr of Smithville, WV, her twins, Christina Leone (Jeffrey) Jones of Brohard, WV, Christopher Leon Simpson of Norfolk, VA and her baby, Cathryn Leann Simpson of Morgantown, WV; two half sisters, Sandra Sue Morris (Rick) Fields and Marie L. Morris Witmer both of PA; eight grandchildren, Crystal D. (Anthony) Winland, Robert Willard Byrd II (Rebecca), Kelli A. (Terry) Frymier, Russell E. Jones II (Leslie), Nicholas S. Jones, Ericka N. (Edwin) Arnott, Misty N. (Justin) Lowther and John W.C. Jones; ten great-grandchildren, Zoey and Kaige Winland, Robert III, Hayden and Morgan Byrd, Kila Frymier, Chaslyn and Remington Jones, Mercedes (Dustin) Wright and Levi Arnott; two great great-grandchildren, Carter and Amelia Wright; her fur babies, Tiger Tom, Missy and Blackie and great fur baby, Duchess.

Glen Moyers and Anna Florences Parks Moyers; step father, William Reidenbach; son-in-law, Robert W. Byrd; and father of her children, William Lee Simpson.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 22, 2024 at 1:00 PM, from the Raiguel Funeral Home, Harrisville, WV with the Pastor Mike Hardbarger officiating. Burial with follow in the Ayers Cemetery, Smithville, WV. Friends may call at the funeral home from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Thursday, March 21, 2024.

Obituary Preview: Larry Leon Foster, 67, of Petroleum, WV, left this earth on March 10, 2024 after his courageous battle with cancer.
Larry was born June 28, 1956, the son and one of 14 children of the late Ralph E. Foster and Esta Arlene Foster. He graduated from Harrisville High School in 1974. Larry worked as a supervisor at Troy, LLC and retired after 44 years of service. For many years Larry helped coach the Mini League Yellow Jackets t-ball team and helped with the little league Mets team.
Larry leaves behind his loving wife Mary (Putnam) Foster of 46 years marriage. He also leaves behind the loves of his life – daughter, Crystal (Adam) Foster-Jones, sons, Larry “Bubby” Foster II and Douglas (Katie) Foster. His precious and most cherished 15 grandchildren, Austin (Brianna), Jaidon, Shane, Jordan, Trenton, Brayden, Hayden, Lane, Ella and Crew Foster and Kailey, Covin, Jasic, Avidan and Greyson Jones and three very special great granddaughters Carlla Jones, and Melody and Aspen Foster.
Larry will also be missed by sisters: Helen Lonas of Ellenboro, WV, Jane Hall of Rupert, WV, Mary Lou Ross and Diane Bumgardner of Harrisville. Brothers: Eddie, Fred and Mark Foster of Harrisville, Chuck Foster of Vienna, John Foster of Cairo, and Randy Foster of Washington State. He will be missed by his father-in-law, Van Putnam.
In addition to his parents Larry was preceded in death by sisters Joan Junkins and Loretta Spirito, brother David Foster and his mother-in-law Nancy Putnam.
Funeral services will be held at 1 PM, Saturday, March 16, 2024 at Raiguel Funeral Home, Harrisville with Pastor John Putnam and Pastor Darrell Farley officiating. Burial will follow in the Cantwell Church of Christ Cemetery. Friends may visit at the funeral home Saturday from 11 AM-1 PM.

Matt was rich in life with family and a lot of good friends.

Ruth liked to read, crochet, and work on different kinds of puzzles whether that be crosswords or jigsaws. She also enjoyed walking, singing, traveling, talking to people, and spending time with her family and friends.
She was a long time member of the Harrisville Church of Christ, and a member of Smithville Homemakers Club.
Ruth is survived by her loving children, Michael Alan Kellar (Martha Kay) and Terry Lea Mossor (Wesley) both of Harrisville, WV; grandchildren, Shawn Kellar, Justin Kellar, and Emily Shaffer; 4 great grandchildren; significant other, Stanley Norstebon and his family; and several loving nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Ruth is preceded in death by her first husband, Donald Paul Kellar and her second husband, William Robert Furr; brothers, Eugene Strickling, Roscoe Strickling, Gerald Strickling; and sister, Clarissa Goodnight.

Obituary Preview: Leonard “Junior” Scott, 72, of Elizabeth, WV, departed this life on Saturday, March 2, 2024, at Camden Clark Hospital in Parkersburg, with his family by his side after a short illness.
Junior was born on August 8, 1951, the son of Lenard M. and Dicie (Clevenger) Scott. He graduated from Harrisville High School with the class of 1969. He had always lived in Ritchie County until he married Judith (Goff) Scott on November 2, 2010 and moved to Wirt County.
Throughout Junior’s life he always enjoyed gardening and farming. But he especially loved being a father and grandfather. He first began working in the oil fields and later worked as a school bus driver for Ritchie County Schools for over twenty years.
He was a faithful member of God’s House of Worship in Wirt County.
Junior was recently preceded in death by his loving wife Judy. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his son, Ryan Scott, in 2012.
He is survived by his daughter, Erin Scott and a grandson Jordan Scott, whom he adored. Also surviving are four sisters- RosaLee Simmons of Ashland, OH; Kay Nelson (Denny) of Cairo; Sue Barker (Randy) of Sutton, and Mary Lou Clevenger (Danny) of Smithville. As well as loving nieces, Lisa Honaker, Betsy Wells and nephews, Kevin Simmons, Andrew Nelson, Rusty Barker, Matthew Nelson, and Jacob Clevenger.
A service will be held at 2pm on Tuesday, March 5, 2024 at Raiguel Funeral Home in Harrisville, WV, with Pastor Mike Hardbarger officiating. Burial will follow in the King Knob Cemetery near Harrisville, WV. Visitation will take place from 11am-2pm, prior to the service.

He was born June 19, 1961, the son of the late Arzie William Freed and Retha June Wilson of Freed.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother Robert Earl “Bob” Freed.
He is survived by his soulmate and loving wife, Gina Lee Yancey Freed and children, Jessica Le-Ann Freed of Vienna, WV, Kristy Noel Freed and fiancé, Scott Ellison of Parkersburg, WV, Tiffany Dawn Freed of Midland, MD, Christopher Wayne Gherke (Michelle) of Gypsy, WV, and Jessica Marie Hardesty (Dan) of Morgantown, WV; grandchildren, Danica Gherke, Zaiden Borror, Amos Hardesty, Bethy Hardesty, Simeon Hardesty and Conor Nicholas; sisters, Vivian Dye (Denzil) of Mt. Zion, WV, Elaine Miller (Bernard) of Big Springs, WV and Donna Poling (Dick) of Mt. Zion, WV.
Larry was a graduate of Calhoun County High School, class of 1979, attended Glenville State College and was honorably discharged from the United Staes Marine Corp Reserve with the Rank of E-5. He worked as a meat cutter and dept. manager for 40 years; 34 years in Parkersburg with the Foodland and Piggly Wiggly groups, then finished his career in Glenville with the good people of Waco Foods at Foodland.
Larry was a member of Brooksville Missionary Baptist Church, the Christian Motorcycle Association of Parkersburg and the NRA. He enjoyed spending time on the farm raising beef cattle with his wife and grandchildren by his side, hunting on the farm and fishing at the beach with his cousins, and riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle with his wife, nephew and friends.
A celebration of life will be held at 3pm Saturday, March 9, 2024 at Brooksville Baptist Church in Big Bend, WV. A visitation will take place from 2-3pm prior to the service. His ashes will be spread on his farm which has been in the family since 1865, and in the Freed Cemetery. Cremation services were provided by Raiguel Funeral Home, Harrisville, WV.

Roy worked several jobs in his lifetime, he worked for the Ellenboro Glass Factory, Simonton’s Glass, Circo, but his favorite and most recent was being a truck driver for Hall’s Trucking. He was very close with his family, and enjoyed spending time with them and hanging out with his brothers. Roy enjoyed working on vehicles, deer hunting, and watching movies with his significant other, Candace.
He is survived by his loving partner of over 20 years, Candace McCloy; children, Gregory, Dustin, Sierra, and Holly Baker; 10 grandchildren; siblings, Rick Baker, Dave Baker (Sharon Mason) and Okey Baker III (Joyce Williams); uncles, Denzil Baker (Linda), Rollin Baker (Mina), and Charlie Rogers; nephew, Adam Swiger, and close family friends, George and Angela Strawhecker, Tiffany and Brittany Haugh, James and Kyle Cowan, Danny Pridemore, and Mike McDonald.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his grandmother Delphie Rogers.
A service will take place on at 2pm on Monday, March 11, 2024, at Raiguel Funeral Home in Harrisville, WV, with Reverend Gilbert Neely officiating. Burial will follow at the Bethany Cemetery. Visitation will take place from 11am-2pm prior to the service, on Monday.

She was born Friday, May 13, 1938 in Roane Mountain, Carter County Tennessee, the second child of Issac Winslow Hill and Lillie McKinney Hill. In 1952 her family left the mountains of Tennessee to resettle in Maryland where her father hoped to find work. She remained there much of her life, marrying and raising four boys. In 1992 she moved to Smithville, West Virginia where she purchased her own home. Over the years, Pauline was a loving and caring homemaker. She also served as a caregiver in Queens, NY for several years. On occasion, she attended the Hughes River Presbyterian Church of Cairo, WV.
She is survived by her sons, Steve Ritter (Diana) of Cairo, WV; Jerry Ritter (Sherry) of Augusta, WV; David Ritter (Leslie) of Parkersburg, WV, and Mark Ritter (Sherry) of Dellslow, WV; her loving grandchildren, Clayton, Jeremy, David Jr., Michelle, Paul, Nathan, and her many loving great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Allan Ritter on June 5, 2006; infant son, Edward Anthony Ritter; granddaughter, Bobbie, and her nine siblings, Howard, Louise, Trula, Homer, Arnild, Orville, Ethel, Douglas, and Norman.
She was a woman of strength and perseverance and faced adversity and the many trials in her life with determination and resolve. Her children and grandchildren were the most important things to her. She loved animals, especially her little dog Snookie. She also loved cornbread, trips to the thrift store, and rides in the car "sightseeing".

Cheryl babysat for many kids in Harrisville, WV but most of all she enjoyed spending time with her kids and her nieces and nephews.
