Harold "Jim" Gemler - August 02, 1944 - January 17, 2021

Departed: 01/17/2021 (Erie)
Obituary Preview: Harold J. (Jim) Gemler “Bampa” born August 2, 1944 passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, January 17th at the age of 76. He was married to Jeanne (Gordon) Gemler, his bride and best friend, for 51 years and was preceded in death by his parents Harold A. (Bill) Gemler and Adelaide V. Gemler.
Jim was a proud graduate of St John’s Grade School and Cathedral Prep class of ’62 where he excelled in baseball and basketball. Upon graduation he attended Gannon University where he studied accounting, and Sullivans pub.
He worked at the family meat market, Gemler Bro’s beginning in 8th grade where he developed an appreciation for odd foods such as pickled pigs feet, beef tongue, and limburger cheese. Jim was also a dominant baseball player in Boys Baseball and as a high school pitcher at Prep. He had a famed “drop off the table” curveball that he still talked about. He was huge Boston Red Sox fan, especially Ted Williams.
Another passion “HJ” had was drag racing. He started as a 16 year old and eventually became a nationally ranked National Hot Rod Association (NHRA) “pro stock” drag racer. In 1970, he and his brother (Jere) made that passion a career and opened Gemler’s Performance Center where he was well known for his expertise in high performance engines for both race and street cars, a profession he was very proud of and enjoyed.
Outside of work, he was very active in his children’s sports and was loved and respected as a coach for basketball and baseball even though sometimes he had to tell them to “get their heads out of their a**es” and pay attention, one of his favorite phrases.  He had nicknames for all of his players, which helped keep a relaxed and fun atmosphere. In addition, he was the president of the Prep Football Boosters and had a great time arranging the tailgate parties across the street from the stadium.
Jim is survived by his wife of 51 years, Jeanne (Gordon) Gemler; his four kids-Tracy Gemler (David), Maggie Madura (Sean), John Gemler, Jim Gemler (Jennifer) and his brother Jere Gemler; three grandchildren-Madison Ferraro, Sydney Ferraro and Morgan Madura, his dog daughter Lucy who will miss snack time very much and his grand dogs Bruiser, Jake, Lily, and Ruger, and grand cats Dalton and Pixie. Sister-in law Mary Kay Sandell, brother and sister- in- law Bill and Joan Gordon and brother- in- law Tim Gordon, as well as dozens of friends. Lastly, his HS graduation gift from his parents, his pristine 1962 Chevy Impala SS “409”.
He was preceded in death by his infant brother John Francis; granddaughter Peyton Madura Babcock; mother and father- in- law, John and Katie Gordon; brother- in- law, Jerry Sandell; brother and sister- in- law, Judy and Larry Fredette. Also, several of his good buddies, which we are sure he is having beers with as we write this.
Friends are invited to call at the Quinn Funeral Home, West 9th & Liberty St. on Wednesday from 3:00 PM until 6:00 PM and are invited to attend a Funeral Mass Thursday at 12 noon in Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. Departed: 11/23/2020 (Erie)
Obituary Preview: Our mother, Audrey Arlene Vieira, passed away Monday, November 23, 2020. She was born on January 15, 1929, to the late Louis and Ethel Vincent, mom was the fourth of five children: Robert, Phyllis, Richard, and Shirley. She passes to her great reward in heaven, joining her three-favorite people: her Lord Jesus, the love of her life, our father Jim, and John Wayne.
Audrey and James married on May 8, 1948. Mom worked hard to support us in all our endeavors.  Working at St. Andrew’s Rectory for almost 30 years, retiring once the rectory switched to using the computer full time. However, her real reason for retiring was to spend more time with her husband in their golden years, in addition to not wanting to train another incoming pastor.
Audrey is survived by her sister, Sr. Ricarda Vincent, SSJ ; daughters Teri and Cathy; sons Jimmy and Joey (Beth). Grandchildren Lanielle (Martin), Ashley (Daniel), Jamie, Kyle, Isabelle, John, Beatrice, Tyler, Gabrielle, Evan, along with six great- grandchildren.

Carmine Camillo - December 27, 1938 - November 18, 2020

Departed: 11/18/2020 (Erie)
Obituary Preview: Carmine Camillo, beloved son, husband, father, and papà, passed away on November 18th, 2020.  Born on December 27th, 1938 in Forlì del Sannio, Italy, he was the eldest son of the late Armando and Edvige (Iarussi) Camillo.
Carmine was a master carpenter, learning his trade in Italy and working in Switzerland and France, from Marseille to Paris, before immigrating with his family to the United States in 1968.  For over 30 years, he worked for E.E. Austin and Son, overseeing construction projects ranging from schools to hospitals, and special projects like the Rotary Pavilion at Presque Isle State Park and at The Chautauqua Institute (and anything and everything in-between).  Carmine remodeled countless homes, including finishing basements to complete additions; there was nothing he could not build or repair.  He took great pride in his hard work and a job well done.
His most important construction was his family.  He married his wife of 48 years, Marilyn (Jardine) Camillo, on April 8th, 1972.  They have two sons, Carmine (Jodie) and Thomas (Heidi), for whom he built a house in which the family still resides today.  He was most fortunate to be blessed with four grandchildren, Clara, Sam, Nicolina, and Dino, all of whom made him smile instantly upon seeing them.  He loved to play with them and was sometimes like a “5th child” to Marilyn when they would all be together.  Even while stricken with dementia, papà would light-up with excitement upon seeing his beloved kids.
Carmine was a legendary bocce player, much to the chagrin of those who played against him for so many years at so many different bocce courts.  He was a member of La Nuova Aurora Society and a host of other clubs, while also being an usher at Our Lady of Peace Church for 20 years.  In his younger years he played mandolin and clarinet.  Carmine and Marilyn loved to dance with each other and would always be found on the dance floor of any wedding or party.  His garden was always robust and full of vegetables, and his fig tree produced abundant fruit that gave him a taste of home. Carmine, Marilyn, Carmine, and Tom made a family trip to Italy in 2006, cementing the connection between the Old Country and his wonderful new world.
In addition to his wife and children and their children, Carmine is further survived by his brother, Franco, and his family, and his cousins in Italy.
Friends may call at the Quinn Funeral Home, West 9th & Liberty St. on Sunday, November 22nd, from 1pm- 4pm and are invited to a Funeral Mass at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church, 2401 W. 38th St., on Monday, November 23rd at 10:00 AM. To view the mass livestream, please go to Facebook Our Lady of Peace Parish website. Livestreaming will begin at 10:00 AM. Burial will be private. All CDC guidelines including facemasks and social distancing will be in effect.
Memorials can be made to Springhill and the team in The Woodlands, who took such good care of Carmine over the last several months.

Sally was a graduate of Villa Maria High School and Mercyhurst College, where she was a Carpe Diem Award recipient. Later, while raising five children, Sally earned her Master’s Degree in Counseling through Gannon College. Through the years she served the students through many positions and in many schools within the District.
