Obituary Preview: Linda K. Ikemire was born February 19, 1950, in Allen Sanitarium, Robinson, IL., the daughter of Dean Andrew and Anna Mary Marie (Musgrave) Ikemire who have preceded her in death. Linda attended school in Martinsville, Robinson, and Oblong, IL, graduating with the OHS class of 1968. Linda enrolled at Eastern Illinois University and graduated there with a Bachelor of Arts in Education in 1971. She began her career at Brookside Elementary School in Lawrenceville, IL. Moving closer to home, Linda worked at Hutsonville Community Unit # 1 and taught elementary school. After some time with her children at home, Linda became the District Librarian in 1993 for Oblong Community Unit #4 Schools in Oblong, IL and remained there until she retired from the education field. As a librarian, Mrs. Clatfelter worked hard to create interesting lessons, planned special events for families, and coordinated many guest speakers including pilots who landed a helicopter on the football field! Also assisting with the music department, Linda directed the band as needed, accompanied students for solo and ensemble contests, and chaperoned field trips. Her concern for her students was evident and she made connections with them that lasted throughout her life.
Teaching was not Linda’s only job, she was a mother to two daughters and the wife of Harold E. “Hal” Clatfelter, whom she married on May 3, 1975. Besides her husband of 49 years, and her daughters and spouses, Maggie (Paul) Liffick of Hutsonville, IL and Ann (Matthew) Mattis of West Union, IL she was the “Gam” to five grandchildren, Beth (Travis) Thompson, Hutsonville, IL; James Liffick, Hutsonville, IL Ella Mattis, Alyssa Mattis and Ethan Mattis of West Union, IL; a brother E. Lloyde (Loretta) Ikemire, Sandwich, IL; three sisters Mrs. June Ellington and Mrs. Dorothy Hardway both of Casey, IL and Phyllis Ikemire, Robinson, IL; two sisters-in-law Dixie Clatfelter and Zelpha Clatfelter both of West York, IL. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Preceding Linda in death were her parents, a brother James D. Ikemire, a sister Mrs. Mary Zachary, mother-in-law and father-in-law Harold and Florence Clatfelter, brother-in-law and sister-in-law Jack and Jonel Webster, and brother-in-law Fred Clatfelter.
Using her musical talents at church, Linda served as a worship leader at Mount Olive Baptist Church where she was a longtime faithful member. Along with her husband, she led the worship at revivals and weekly services. In addition to music, Linda served as a Sunday school teacher, youth leader, and VBS director. Linda was dedicated to telling kids about Jesus and recognized everyone who contributed by writing personalized notes and buying gifts.
As a devoted wife, mom, and grandma, she cheered for her family in every capacity, at her girls’ volleyball games and throughout life. She recognized and celebrated special achievements with her grandchildren. She was a wonderful example. Her encouragement and devotion to her family continued throughout her life. Linda Clatfelter’s legacy will continue through the lives of her family and countless others who were impacted by her life.

Betty Louise Harwood - July 24, 1932 - April 29, 2024

Departed: 04/29/2024 (Hutsonville)
Obituary Preview: Betty Louise Newlin Harwood, 91, of both Elgin, Illinois and Palestine, Illinois died at 6:22 a.m. on Monday, April 29, 2024 at her home in Elgin. She was born on July 24, 1932 in Hutsonville to Ira Randall Newlin and Alice Permilla (Young) Newlin.
Betty graduated from Palestine High School in 1950 and went on to Eastern Illinois University, where she received a bachelor's degree in Home Economics.
She worked at Quaker Oats doing research and product development for 16 years, until the birth of her second child in 1971. She then devoted the next few years to being a very involved mother. She was active in the PTA, was a room mother, a girl scout leader, and a 4-H leader, as well as taking her daughters to their many after-school activities.
After 1976, she became a single mother and returned to work, but still found time to teach her daughters to sew, knit, and cook and continued to be active in 4-H.  Her skill as a cook led to a job she loved, teaching microwave cooking classes all over Northern Illinois. Her classes were not only informative, but entertaining, as she included humorous stories which often included the real-life antics of her children.
When she retired, Betty began to travel abroad. She had already traveled extensively in the United States, Canada, and Mexico, but now she wanted to see the rest of the world. She traveled to every continent except Antarctica ("I've already seen penguins" she said). Of all of her accomplishments, she was most proud of her travels. Singapore was her favorite place, because the people were so friendly, but the most visually stunning place she visited was Egypt. She opened the curtains in her hotel room and there were the pyramids, looking like a postcard. She said she had trouble believing they were real. In her later years, she liked to think about her travels and how lucky she was to have had these adventures. She would say, "I've gone from traveling through the flood waters of the Wabash in the back of a manure spreader to cruising down the Nile." She would look thoughtful for a minute and add, "I've really been very lucky!"
Betty is survived by her daughters and their spouses, Christina and Bryant Draper (Lake Forest Park, WA) and Lisa and Clete Rooney (Elgin, IL); and by her grandchildren, Taylor Draper (Lake Forest Park, WA), Aidan Harwood (Elgin, IL), Mikolai Jindrich (Minneapolis, MN), and Kayla Jindrich (Minneapolis, MN).
Funeral Services for Mrs. Betty L. (Newlin) Harwood will be conducted Saturday May 4, 2024 at 2:00 pm with Pastor David Ducommon officiating. Interment will follow funeral service in the Hutsonville Cemetery.  A time of visitation will be observed from 1:00 pm until 2:00 pm at the funeral home on Saturday May 4, 2024.
The family suggests memorials in memory of Mrs. Harwood be made to the donor’s favorite charity.

Obituary Preview: Gerald A. Schoncheck, age 89, of Hutsonville, IL passed away peacefully after an extended illness on Wednesday, October 18, 2023, at the Robinson Rehab and Nursing Home in Robinson, IL.
Gerald (Jerry) A. Schoncheck, the only child of Alfred C. Schoncheck and Sarah Elizabeth Buxton Schoncheck, was born in Ecorse, Michigan, on September 19, 1934. After his parents' divorce, he was very blessed to gain a new dad when Sarah married Julius W. Helmholtz, of Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin. Jerry spent most of his childhood in the Sturgeon Bay area, where he attended Waniger School, a one-room schoolhouse, through eighth grade. He then spent three years at Sturgeon Bay High School, before moving with his family and attending his senior year at Hutsonville High School, graduating in 1953.
Sometime after 1952 when he moved to Hutsonville, he met his wife-to-be, Linda Ash.
They were married at the Hutsonville 1st Christian Church on July 31, 1960, after Linda graduated from high school. To this union were born four children: Earl William, David Wayne, Charles (CharLee) Leroy, and Laura Jeanne. Their family has now expanded to include ten grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren.
After graduation, Jerry was employed at several different jobs, including Malleable Steel in Terre Haute, Bachelor's Cleaners in Palestine, greenskeeper at Crawford County Country Club in Robinson, supervisor at the South Reed Street Electronics, Illinois Central Railroad, and Shivers Corporation at Hutsonville. In 1973 he began employment as an electrician at the Hutsonville CIPS and worked there until his retirement.
Jerry enjoyed several pastimes through the years. He loved to fish and hunt and just being outdoors. Growing up in Wisconsin, it was only natural that he became a lifetime fan of the Green Bay Packers. He also enjoyed watching TV, and his favorite shows were Ghost Adventures, the Outdoors Channel, and the Andy Griffith Show, even if it was a rerun that he had just watched the day before. Before he lost his eyesight, he liked to read, and his favorite authors were Tony Hillerman and Ellis Peters. Mowing with his John Deere tractors was fun, too. Those who knew Jerry well know that he was somewhat of a loner. He preferred being with only a few people at a time and did not like crowds, but through his lifetime he had several close lifelong friends whom he enjoyed spending time with. Most importantly, He never tired of spending time with his children and their families and loved them dearly.
Jerry is survived by Linda (Ash) Schoncheck, his wife of 63 years; by his four children: Earl Schoncheck, David Schoncheck and Susan Spitz, Charlee and Suzanne Schoncheck, and Laura Schoncheck. He has been blessed with ten grandchildren: Earl William, Jr. and Sarah Ackman, Sarah and Dallas Daugherty, Michael Schoncheck, Cassie Buecherie, Ashley and Jason Andrews, Amber Conrad and Shawn Landrum, Summer Gaddis and Michael Rumley, Ryan Wallace and Shayna King, Brooke Schoncheck, and Noah Schoncheck.
