Mrs. Loy was a graduate of Walter Williams High School and Elon College. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Asheboro. She retired as plant manager from Lassiter Sportswear and was then employed with Sew Special. Mrs. Loy served as a Cub Scout leader, Sunday school teacher, grade parent, band parent, booster club parent and in any other volunteer position needed during the childhoods of her children. Most recently, her favorite diversion was spending time with her beloved grandson, earning her the prized nickname "JuJu". In addition to her parents, Mrs. Loy was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Gibbons Loy, Jr.She is survived by her daughter, Dionne Loy Fortner (Glenn); son, David Gibbons Loy (Marcia Moran); grandson, Henry "Hank" Charles Fortner and many beloved cousins. Visitation will be held Tuesday, April 19, 2022, 10:00 am - 10:45 am at First Baptist Church, 133 N. Church St., Asheboro. Funeral services will follow at 11:00 am with Rev. Mark Hall officiating. Margaret is a member at Brower’s Chapel United Methodist Church and enjoyed helping delivery food with their Meals on Wheels program. She loved cooking and was known for her biscuits, chocolate pie and her persimmon pudding. Margaret enjoyed gardening, taking care of her yard, and loving on her cat, Tabby. Don was a hard worker, best husband, father, and Paw Paw. Obituary Preview: Michael Johnson Redding, age 71, of Troy, passed away on April 5, 2022.He was born on October 3, 1950 in Asheboro to Talmage and Mattie Belle Redding. Michael was a 1969 graduate of Asheboro High School where he was known as ‘Moose’ and was co captain and all state in both wrestling and football. His love of high school sports remained with him throughout his life. Mike was instrumental in starting and supporting local baseball leagues and high school wrestling teams. He was often seen at all types of athletic events cheering for his local high schools, family athletes, and his Mighty Blue Comets!One of Mike’s life mottos was ‘Work Hard/Play Hard’. He had a lifelong career with Carolina Power and Light. He loved his work, was a dedicated mentor to the next generation of engineers and linemen and made and kept friendships that he considered his family. Michael played hard also. He was an active member of the shag dance community never missing an S.O.S., dancing at his favorite shag clubs, even teaching lessons and competing in a few shag competitions.Everyone who knew Mike knew that he also ‘Loved Hard’. He was a friend to all he met. Mike never missed an opportunity to help a friend in need, chat on the phone, give solid and honest advice, and let people know he loved them. He knew life was precious and short and spent as much time as he could with his friends, family and grandchildren. He was passionate about his grandchildren and made every effort to spend as much time as possible with them, letting them individually know how special they were and he took great pleasure in watching them work hard at their individual sports. Michael had a deep connection to the ocean. His love of surf fishing carried through with him his entire life. Some of his greatest friendships were cultivated seaside. Michael is survived by his son, Jason Redding of Asheboro; daughter, Kasey Bulford (Mark) of Newnan, GA; grandchildren, Wesley, Adele, Liam and Jack; siblings, Walker Redding (Jeannie), Howard Redding, Shelia Williams (Earl), El Redding (Sue White); longtime girlfriend and sweetheart, Susan McEntire.Visitation will be held Friday, April 8, 2022, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Ave., Asheboro. He served in the United States Navy during World War II and after service graduated from Western Carolina University and earned a Master’s degree from NC A&T University. He retired after 32 years in education at Asheboro High School having served as a coach, history teacher, and driver’s education instructor. He worked as a bus driver for McGill's Taxi and Bus Lines in Asheboro and later for Carolina American Tours. He was a member of Civitan International in Asheboro for many years and was a faithful member of Oakhurst Baptist Church. Don loved life! He loved the Lord, Christmas, sweets, fishing and boating at Lake Tillery, Disney World, gardening, working crossword puzzles, any and all sports, and his family! In addition to his parents, six brothers and two sisters, Don is preceded in death by his first wife of 31 years, Betty Cothran Thomas, and son, Paul. He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Jesalyn Kearns Thomas, children, Amanda Blanks (Mac) of Roxboro, Nancy Fox of Asheboro, Nona Hardy (Fred) of Apex, Dan Thomas of Apex, Jolynn Hill (Wayne) of Asheboro, and Julie Cooke (Bobby) of Randleman. Don was “Papa” or “Pop” to his grandchildren, Tommy Bunch, Kara Parrish (Matt), Robert Blanks (Diane), Benjamin Blanks (Jolene), Erin Slaughter (Ben), Gloria Davis (Spencer), Kari Lamb (Thomas), Isaac Dove, Caleb Dove, Hannah Dove, and to his great grandchildren Casey, Maci, Gage, Brayden, Carson, Owen, and Olivia.
