David Leroy Hunt - March 26, 1947 - March 22, 2024

Departed: 03/22/2024 (Grant City)
Obituary Preview: Community, Family, Faith, and John Deere
David Leroy Hunt was born to Jeramiah and Virginia (Foland) Hunt on March 26th 1947.  He was born in Maryville, MO but grew up, farmed, and lived all of his life in Grant City, MO.  He went to elementary school in Grant City and graduated from Grant City High School in 1965. He married Mary Kay Owens June 1st 1968 at the Grant City Methodist Church. They raised their two sons Craig and Eric on a farm just a few miles down the road from where David grew up.
Farming with his brother Paul with John Deere tractors was not just a vocation, it was something he loved to do and part of who he was.  When there was spare time he enjoyed tractor pulling, reading, and watching his granddaughters Rikky, Haley and Braidy in all of their activities. He also enjoyed watching Paw Patrol with Morgan and taking her to chore with him. He had gotten to meet and spend time with his new great grandson Weston and was looking forward to meeting the next great grand.
He was very involved in community and charity work just a few of which included the Worth County ambulance board where he served as an ambulance driver, an EMT and on the board, 911 board, one of the founding members of the Grant City Lions Club, Extension council, Grant City Cemetery Board, Mt. Vernon Cemetery Caretaker, and he was a member of the United Methodist Church where he served in several leadership positions.
David Hunt was a man that put his faith first, then family, friends, neighbors and his community, all ahead of himself. I can remember years ago I was renting pasture east of David and Mary Kay’s home place and the fence between us on my landlords side wasn’t anything special. I would have a cow get out on David and I would drive over to tell him. He would say “don’t worry about her, she’ll go home when she gets ready or we will get her someday when it’s handy.” The next thing you know he was calling and say “I got the cow in and already, had my trailer on so I took her back and put her in your pasture.’
David was the guy who, when the cemetery needed bladed out, instead of calling the city or asking someone else to do it, he just crawled in one of his John Deere tractors and drove to town and did it himself.
David was the guy that would bring every tractor he had to town to help get ready for and put on a tractor pull, spending 3 days doing it for the community to enjoy as he himself did too. David would come to my place in the spring to pick up seed corn, he would never take it all at once. He would say “just give me enough for today and we’ll see what tomorrow brings” or he might say “not going to plant much today, we gotta quit early to go to Rikky, Haley or Braidy’s ball game. I remember the last thing David would always say before leaving was “Okay, we’ll see ya.”
David Hunt was the guy that would stop planting his corn to help you plant yours. He truly did live out: Mark 12:30-31 – New King James Version 30: And you shall love the Lord with all your heart, with all your soul, with your mind, and with all your strength’ This is the first commandment. 31: and the second, like it, is this: “you shall love your neighbor as yourself. There is no other commandment greater than these.”
David is survived by his wife Mary Kay of the home, sons Craig (Sheila) Hunt and Eric Hunt all of Grant City, granddaughters Rikky (Clayton) Wilmes of Conception, MO, Haley (Levi) Boulting, Braidy Hunt, and Morgan Hunt all of Grant City, MO, and great-grandson Weston Wilmes. Sister-in-law Pam Hunt of Grant City, MO and sister-in-law Norma (Larry) Cousin of Coffeyville, TX and several nieces and nephews, cousins, and extended families.
Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 26, 2024 at Prugh-Dunfee Funeral Home in Grant City, Missouri. Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Monday, March 25, 2024 at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Grant City Cemetery.

Bobbie J. Rinehart - January 03, 1930 - September 27, 2023

Departed: 09/27/2023 (Grant City)
Obituary Preview: Bobbie Junior Rinehart was born January 3, 1930 to Orval (Bob) Rinehart and Mildred (Wilson) Rinehart at the family farm in Hatfield, Missouri. He passed away peacefully at the Worth County Convalescent Center on September 27, 2023. He was the second of four children (Kathryn, Bobbie, Ronnie and Dennis). Bobbie attended elementary school at a country school located a few miles northwest of the family farm, and according to his version of the story, he was so smart that he skipped second grade. He attended high school and played basketball for the Hatfield Mo School District and graduated in 1947.
After graduation Bobbie continued to devote himself to the family farm. In 1951, he was drafted into the Army during the Korean War. He graduated as an army auto mechanic with the 5th armored division at Camp Chaffee, AR. He then went to base camp at Fort Hood in Texas, and was then shipped out to Germany. He was honorably discharged in 1953 with the title of Corporal, and returned to his family’s farm with a tendency to always wear his hat sitting slightly sideways. He met his wife AnnaBelle Black in 1954 at the Grant City skating rink and they were married on December 31, 1954. They began to build their life together on the “old place” (as it had originally been his grandparents, Ira and Pearl Rinehart’s), where Gary Lynn and Sherri Lea were born. In 1960, Bobbie built their current home and moved his family there, which is where Kathy Ann, Melinda Sue and Bobbi Jo were born and raised. Bobbie and Annabelle continued to raise their five children with much family love and lots of humor.
Bobbie was connected to the land and it served as a compass for his life and his family. He was not afraid of hard work from sunrise to sunset. In the beginning he raised hogs and milk cows. Over the years, the family farm continued with cattle, corn, soybeans, and sometimes wheat, as well as a plentiful garden. Homemade and homegrown was how he was raised and was a tradition he continued. He loved walking the fields of the farm, hunting arrowheads and mushrooms, slicing open a watermelon and watching the seasons change as the crops matured. He enjoyed bringing in the fall harvest and watching the baby calves be born. He loved sharing the farm with his family; some were lucky enough to test the electric fence, drive very near the edge of the riverbank, and slide on the solidly frozen ponds. He was interested in the history of the land, and worked to be a good shepherd of its future, never hunting and always tending to his crops like they were family.
Bobbie was clever, witty, intelligent, funny, frugal and loved to visit with others. These traits led him to volunteer at the Allendale Rodeo, Lotts Grove Cemetery and to support the watershed commission projects. He enjoyed going fishing, making homemade kites for all the kids to fly, playing pitch, and making homemade ice cream. He was known for his sweet tooth, and no one was ever surprised when his dessert plate was as full as his main plate. He was always willing to help his friends and neighbors, and was known to have pulled out many stuck tractors, trucks and buses. Bobbie was a role model of thrift and how to find happiness in everyday things. He was happiest when his family came and spent time with him and AnnaBelle on the farm. An obituary is a written notice that announces the death of a person, typically including their name, age, date of birth and death, and other biographical information. It may also include details about their life, accomplishments, and surviving family members.

Why are obituaries important?

Obituaries serve as a way to inform friends, family, and community members of a person's passing, allowing them to pay their respects and offer condolences. They also provide a permanent record of the person's life and can be a valuable resource for genealogical research and historical preservation.

Who writes an obituary?

Typically, the family of the deceased or a close friend writes the obituary. Funeral homes and crematories may also offer assistance in writing and publishing obituaries as part of their services.

What information should be included in an obituary?

A typical obituary includes the person's full name, age, date of birth and death, place of residence, occupation, education, military service, hobbies, and surviving family members. It may also include information about funeral services, memorials, and charitable donations.

How long should an obituary be?

The length of an obituary can vary depending on the publication and the individual's life. Generally, it should be concise and to the point, ranging from a few sentences to a short paragraph.

Can I include photos in an obituary?

Yes, many publications allow you to include one or more photos with the obituary. This can be a meaningful way to personalize the notice and help readers remember the person.

How do I submit an obituary to a newspaper or online publication?

Contact the publication directly to learn their submission guidelines and deadlines. Some publications may accept submissions online or via email, while others may require a phone call or in-person visit.

How much does it cost to publish an obituary?

Can I write my own obituary?

What is the difference between an obituary and a death notice?

A death notice is a brief announcement of someone's passing, often including only basic information such as name, age, and date of death. An obituary provides more detailed information about the person's life and legacy.

Absolutely! An obituary should reflect the personality and spirit of the person who has passed away. Including humorous stories or memorable quotes can help bring comfort and smiles to those who read it.

Be respectful and considerate when deciding what information to include. If there are sensitive issues or private matters that should remain confidential, it's best to omit them or consult with family members before publishing.

Can I include information about charitable donations or memorial funds in an obituary?

Yes, many people choose to include information about charitable organizations or memorial funds that were important to the deceased. This can be a meaningful way to honor their memory and continue their legacy.

How long after someone passes away should I wait before publishing an obituary?

The timing varies depending on cultural and personal preferences. Typically, an obituary is published within a few days to a week after the person's passing, but it can be published at any time that feels appropriate for the family.

Can I publish an obituary online only?

Yes, many online platforms allow you to publish an obituary without printing it in a physical newspaper. This can be a cost-effective option that still reaches a wide audience.

How do I find old obituaries?

You can search online archives of newspapers and genealogy websites, visit local libraries or archives, or contact funeral homes or crematories that may have records of past services.

Can I republish an old obituary?

If you have permission from the original publisher or copyright holder, you may be able to republish an old obituary. Be sure to verify any necessary permissions before sharing.

What if I need to make corrections to an already-published obituary?

Contact the publication directly as soon as possible to request corrections. They will guide you through their process for making changes.

Can I write multiple obituaries for different publications?

Yes, you may want to tailor different versions of the obituary for various audiences or publications. Just be sure to keep track of any variations and ensure accuracy across all versions.

How do I ensure accuracy when writing an obituary?

What if I'm struggling to write an obituary due to grief or emotional distress?
