She was born to her parents Mae Ola and Herman Sewell, and was the 9th of 13 children, whom all lived on a farm in the rural South. Bertha, affectionately nicknamed “Bert” and “Grandma Bert”, lived an illustrious life, giving birth to her first born baby girl Linda “Tweet” Thigpen in Glendora, Mississippi at 19 years old before moving to St. Louis, Missouri, where she met her husband, Louis Joseph West. Together they would have four more children, Louis Joe West, Brenda West, LaVerne “Bonnie” Rogers, and Gregory West. Bertha always had love for helping people, so she worked in the healthcare industry for well over thirty years, serving first as an Executive Assistant at a Missouri Hospital, and then as a nurse’s aide for almost 20 years thereafter. Bertha had a zest for life, and in her later years enjoyed dancing, cooking for her family, spending time with her family, traveling, and watching her beloved NBA team, The Golden State Warriors play basketball on TV. Bertha was a guiding light to her children and grandchildren, and was also known to have a sharp tongue and quick wit that would rival most comedians. Her laughter, fiery spirit, and loving heart will be greatly missed. Bertha’s legacy includes 5 children, 7 grandchildren, and 10 great- grandchildren.

Obituary Preview: On November 4, 1934, Turner and Celestine Tucker were blessed with a baby girl who they gave the biblical name Queen Esther. Born in Kinsley, Arkansas Queen Esther was the first of two children and the only girl born to this marital union which began in 1932. Her parents and brother preceded her in death.
With the hope of a better life and more job opportunities, Queen Esther’s father moved the family to Saint Louis when she was four years old. She was educated in the Saint Louis Public School System, graduating from Vashon High School in 1952.
Shortly after high school, Queen Esther met the love of her life Mr. Sylvester Young. They were united in holy matrimony on November 19, 1953, and remained married until his demise in 1988.
Queen Esther studied home economics in school which resulted in her developing a talent for sewing. She worked as a seamstress and for many years she proudly crafted the uniforms worn by the St. Louis Football Cardinals Team.
Queen Esther loved the Lord and was a devoted member of Zion Travelers Missionary Baptist Church. She was faithful in the ministry of music where she served as the youth choir director and sang in both the Gospel Chorus and the Mass Choir. Her involvement in church highlighted her passion for music and nurturing the next generation.
Never having children of her own, she doted on the children who were part of her extended family. Additionally, she had a special love for animals and for years she simultaneously cared for her three fur babies (Lady, Pudgy, and Friskey).
Queen Esther led a simple yet rich and fulfilling life, leaving behind a legacy of love and service. She touched the lives of others with her talents, her devotion to her church, and her affection for her family- both human and furry.
As she is now adorned in her heavenly crown, Queen Esther’s memory will live on in the hearts of those she touched including her niece Annette Tucker Ray (Jason), her nephew Dennis Tucker (Joyce), two great nieces Treina Tucker and Jordyn Ray, and two great nephews Dennis Tucker and Alexander Ray. Her memory will also be cherished by her extended family, her Zion Travelers Church Family, and her Oak Knoll Nursing Home Family.

Obituary Preview: Ozella Marie Cornelius was born August 22, 1938, in Houlka Mississippi to the union of James and Juanita Cook. She was the 3rd of 4 children born to this union. Her Parents, James and Juanita, Sister, Martha Evans, and Children, Eric and Albert Cornelius preceded her in death.
Mother Cornelius was educated in the Okolona MS school system, where she graduated with honors in 1956. After graduating High School, Mother Cornelius moved to St. Louis MO, where she met and married Odell Cornelius in 1959, from this union 5 children were born.
Mother Cornelius confessed hope in Christ at an early age and was baptized at the Center Hill M.B. Church in Houlka Mississippi. After migrating to St. Louis, Mother Cornelius joined the Baptist Church of the Holy Communion under the leadership of Pastor Bartlett Wilkerson where she served as Sunday School teacher for many years. Being led by the Holy Spirit, Mother Cornelius joined the Willing Workers C.R.S Church under the leadership on Bishop Arzell Robertson.
Mother Cornelius was a faithful servant and served as Choir Member, Sunday School Teacher, Missionary, Prayer Leader, Treasurer, Trustee and Mother for many, years. She had a passion for the word of God and was known as a biblical scholar.
Mother Cornelius was employed at Grand Prix Electronics as a Line Supervisor until her retirement in 2003. During her years at GPX she fostered many lasting relationships that have endured until this day.
Mother Cornelius was a pilar of her community and was a great influencer to the youth and young adults, alongside the other matriarchs in the neighborhood, especially on her home block, the 5900 block of Summit Ave. Mother was an avid walker and never met a stranger in the community.
Mother Cornelius took her flight home to be with the Lord on March 24th, 2024, at her residence.
Mother Cornelius leaves to cherish her memory, her beloved children, Thomas (Charsetta), Harriet, Jerrick (Stephanie). 11 Grandchildren, LaTina, Nicole, Thomas, Jerrick Jr. Courtney (Kyani), Jordan, Cordelle, Gabriel, Chris, Myles, Kymberlyn. 7 Great Grandchildren, Andre, Lavaun, Elijah, Jermiah, Kiyomi, Lillianna, Brix. 2 Siblings, Jimmy Cook (Ollie) of Tupelo Mississippi & Eldrige Cook of Lansing Michigan. Special Family, Lane (Keron), Phyllis (Stephen), Tracy (William), Reola Peace. Min. Ann Springer, Helen & Royal Cook. Spiritual Daughters, Linda Barton, Sharon Lockett, Mary Hayden and A’shira (Peanut) Gaines. Min. Karen Morris, Rita Doulas: a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends that she loved and cherished dearly.

Rev. Clarence Deloch, Sr. was born on November 08, 1946, to Ursulea and Matthews Deloch, Sr., In St. Louis, Missouri. Both Parents as well as, three brothers; Edward Sr., Arthur, and Frederick; and one sister, Rosemary, all preceded him in death.
Clarence graduated from Soldan High School then entered the U.S. Army, where he served a tour in Vietnam during the war. After the military, Clarence began working for Missouri Pacific Railroad (MoPac). He loved the railroad but had to take an early retirement due to an injury. After working for the railroad, Clarence spent many decades doing house rehabs and other small home improvements.
Clarence joined Compton Hill under the leadership of Rev. Nathaniel Bland. He later became an ordained minister at Compton hill and was a Chaplin for the City of Northwoods Police Department.
Clarence was an avid fitness buff. Over the years he taught several aerobics classes at Vic Tanny and Bally’s. In 2013, Clarence was inducted into the Greater St. Louis Amateur Baseball Hall of Fame. Clarence was a multi-sports standout at Soldan High in 1960’s. He played football, baseball, and basketball. During the mid 1960’s, Clarence was one of the premier pitchers in the Tandy League, which led to his hall of fame induction.
Clarence married Gwen, his high school love, shortly after high school. They were married for forty-eight years. Gwen preceded him in death in 2017. Clarence suddenly departed this life on March 07, 2024. Gwen’s eternal light is on, so Clarence can find his way back to her.
Clarence leaves to cherish his memory: one son ~ Clarence Jr.; one daughter ~ Ashley; one granddaughter ~ Carmeon Myers; one grandson ~ Nick Deloch; one great grandson ~ Cameron Strong; one brother ~ Matthews (Annette) Deloch; one sister-in-law ~ LaWanda Deloch; and a host of family and friends.
