Obituary Preview: Carol E. Davis, 77, of Salisbury, passed away April 12, 2022 at Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center, Johnstown. Born August 4, 1944 in Johnstown, the daughter of Robert E. and Florence L. (Stevens) Miller.
Preceded in death by her parents and brother, Lauren Miller; and former husband William E. Davis.
She is survived by her children: Wendy and husband Mike Swick; Beth and husband David Jeffries; and James Davis; grandchildren: Kendall and Bryia Swick; Shannon Jeffries and fiancé Ethan Langford; Ethan Jeffries; Cole, Levi, Wyatt and Logan Davis.
She loved leading singing at Hostetler Church of the Brethren and working on their newsletter and bulletin. She also loved singing at Vacation Bible School and quilting. She was working at the Salisbury Family Center. “Miss Carol” was a fan of many of her children, grandchildren and adopted grandchildren from the community, at many sporting events and school activities.
Friends will be received from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday at Price Funeral Service, Inc. Meyersdale. Viewing from 10 a.m. until funeral service at 11 a.m. Friday, at Hostetler Church of the Brethren, with Rev. Irvin Ernst officiating. Interment Maple Springs Cemetery, Hollsopple.

Obituary Preview: Joan Crawford Thomas, affectionately known as "Baba," passed away peacefully at her home in Richmond, Virginia, surrounded by her family on March 26, 2022. Joan was born in Ebensburg, PA in 1936. She received her RN from Conemaugh Valley Hospital and The University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown. Joan worked as an emergency room nurse at Conemaugh Hospital where she met a very handsome and persistent resident, who would later become her husband.
She had a rich, full life, devoting most of it to her faith and being an adoring wife to her husband, loving mother to her five children, and spoiling her 12 grandchildren. Not only did she spend her time as the matriarch of her close-knit family, she also had a wide variety of different types of interests. She worked in her husband's surgical office, she was in charge of advertising at a local radio station, and she implemented OSHA regulations for hospitals. Working at The Carousel, a children's boutique in Williamsburg, VA; however, was one of her greatest joys. Joan loved life to the fullest, and she made every person feel unique and special. She will be greatly missed by everyone whose life she touched, which is many.
She is survived her husband, Terrence J. Thomas, M.D.; children: Kathryn Rust and husband Dana; Terrence J. Thomas, Jr. and wife Paula; Sean Thomas; Erin Gorman and husband Mike; and Colleen Savino and husband David; grandchildren: Hannah, Connor, Ian, Sophie Joan, Lauren, Joseph, Grace, Ella, Noah, Oscar, Audrey, and Molly Kate; brother: Thomas Philbrick; and sister: Denise Sanders, and by many other loving family members.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, at Price Funeral Service, Meyersdale. Funeral Mass will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at SS. Philip and James Catholic Church, Meyersdale, with the Very Reverend Alan Thomas. Committal SS. Philip and James Cemetery.

Schafer in 2013; and brothers: Robert and Joe Krause. Survived by her children: David W. Schafer and wife Darlene (Barron); and Nita Johnson and husband David; grandsons: Michael Johnson and Stephen Johnson (Brittany), all of Garrett; brother: William (Dorothy) Krause, Meyersdale; sister-in-law: Geraldine Shaulis, Rockwood, and numerous nieces and nephews. Ruth was the owner and operator of Schafer's Beauty Salon for 13 years. She and her husband enjoyed making loom woven rugs, and they operated Schafer's Loom Rugs together. Ruth also enjoyed attending craft shows, square dancing and spending time with her family. She was a member of Center Church, Garrett. Linda served others in healthcare as an MRI Technologist for nearly 40 years. She was an avid reader and loved completing puzzles. She enjoyed gardening, the outdoors, and spending time on the beach. She was fiercely devoted to the happiness and success of her family.
Linda was born in Meyersdale, PA to Joan (Walker) Mankamyer and the late Donald R. Mankamyer. She was also preceded in death by her father-in-law Bruce Harold Conn.
In addition to her mother, she is survived by her devoted husband of 43 years, Kenneth Conn; daughter: Sheila Fay Smith (Harold); son: Ryan “Buck” Conn (Rachel); grandchildren: Karly Catherine Maready (Brantly), Olivia Halsey Conn; great grandchildren: Kade Asher Maready and Zoe Jade Maready; sisters: Rhonda Beckner (Rex); Jackie Baer (Doug); and Beth Hoover (Jeff). She is also survived by her mother-in-law: Helen Conn and numerous nieces and nephews.
Family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. Wednesday at Beachdale Church of the Brethren, Berlin, where funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. following visitation, with Pastor Tammy Horner officiating. Interment Glade Cemetery.

Born October 10, 1939 in Meyersdale, the son of Theodore R. and Mildred (Weiland) Baer. Preceded in death by his parents; 1 sister; and 2 brothers.
Survived by his wife, of 65+ years Elsie (Weimer) Baer; 4 adult children: Rhonda, Robin, Roxanne, and Gary; 10 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; and 2 sisters. He was a mechanic who worked for Delta Airlines. After promising his parents, Ted and Millie Baer, his goal was to return to Meyersdale to make it a better place for all. Known to all as a kind and generous person, and he was always willing to help. Many thanks and gratitude to Goodwill Nursing Home where he received excellent care. Born March 24, 1937 in South Fork, the son of George Walukas and Elizabeth (Gudenas) Walukas. Preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Barbara (Lint) Walukas; 11 half siblings. Survived by his wife, Pamela (Chalker) Walukas; three children: Elizabeth, wife of Ray Louis, Lummi Island, WA; Joel Walukas, Albuquerque, N.M.; and Matthew Walukas, and his wife Kristin, Eau Claire, WI; stepchildren: Nathan and wife Annie; Lauren and Rachel; grandchildren: Julia, Hannah, Max, Emily, Jackie, Annika, Kailyn, Olivia, and Casey; and great grandson: R.J. He graduated from University of Pittsburgh with BS(59), MS(62), and PhD(70) in Mechanical Engineering. His career spanned multiple organizations including Westinghouse Research, Oak Ridge National Laboratories, The Gas Research Institute, The National Center for Manufacturing Sciences, and Concurrent Technology Corporation where he was active in engineering and management of research. Don was active civically in the Meyersdale Area where he was former President of the Meyersdale Borough Council and Meyersdale Area Union Cemetery. He also served on The Meyersdale Municipal Authority, The Somerset County Redevelopment Authority, the Pennsylvania Maple Festival Board, Judge of Elections, the Meyersdale Hospital Board, BPOE #1951, the Meyersdale Lions Club, and was a volunteer and mentor in Meyersdale Public Schools. Don was a member of SS. Philip & James Catholic Church, Meyersdale, and sang with the Amity United Church of Christ choir. Per Don's wishes, his body was donated to West Virginia University for medical research. Visitation will be held Friday April 1, 2022, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Price Funeral Service, Meyersdale. A memorial service will held Saturday, April 2, 2022 at 11 a.m. at the Meyersdale Elks Lodge, 327 Dale Street, Meyersdale. Preceded in death by his parents; and daughter-in-law: Polly (Zerfoss) Hornig.
Survived by his wife of 58 years, Nancy (Walker) Hornig; children: Rick Hornig, Mifflinburg; Marcie McDermott and husband Chris, Hooversville; grandchildren: Matthew C. McDermott, Hooversville, Erin E. Burk and husband Eric, Boswell; Zachary Hornig, Philadelphia; Joshua Hornig and wife Nikki; Nicholas Hornig; and Benjamin Hornig, all of Mifflinburg; great granddaughter: Elysia McDermott; siblings: Jack Johns and wife Helen, Salisbury; Libby Sumter and husband Tom, Perkasie; David Hornig and wife Beth, Meyersdale; and nephew: Drew Sumter, New Jersey.
1962 graduate of Meyersdale High School. A member of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church; B.P.O.E. Lodge No. 1951, where he was past exalted ruler; Masonic Lodge 554 F&AM, Harrisburg Consistory; Meyersdale American Legion Post 112; Maple Leaf Rod and Gun Club; and life member of Meyersdale Volunteer Fire Department.
Herb was an avid sports fan, especially NASCAR, Pittsburgh Steelers and Penguins, and he enjoyed hunting. Anyone who met Herb became a fast friend and left with a smile. His laughter was contagious and his jokes are legendary and he will be missed forever.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Henry L. Crissinger Jr.; daughter: Louriese Murbach; and brothers: Jimmy and Eddie Shockey.
She is survived by children: Arlene Feeney and husband Bob; Hope Crissinger; Julaine Emerick and husband Dave; David L. Crissinger and wife, Debbie; 12 grandchildren: Michelle Lishia, Tracy Sanders, Sonja Garlitz, Tyanna Holbrook, Jeremy Hunter, Ember Lyons, David Crissinger Jr., Neil Blank, Josh Grun, Tiffany Miller, Heather Blank and Lauren Crissinger; 14 great grandchildren. Genevieve enjoyed playing her guitar, singing and yodeling. She had a great sense of humor and always enjoyed a good laugh. She will be greatly missed.

Obituary Preview: Sandra “Sandy” Lee Kelly, 80, passed away at 6:55 p.m. on January 12 at In Touch Hospice in Somerset, Pa.
She was born May 17, 1941, to Orville and Edna Bittinger in Grantsville, Md.
Sandy married Robert Thomas Kelly Jr. on June 17, 1960, with whom she spent 42 wonderful years before his passing in 2002.
While her parents and husband preceded her in death, she left behind many surviving family members she loved dearly. She is survived by sisters Wilma Hutzel and Helen Newman; children, Keith Kelly, Patricia Crouse, Jeffery Kelly, and Karen Avey; 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
She spent her life caring for everyone around her and making fast friends with those she surrounded herself with. Sandy worked for the Meyersdale shirt factory for 30 years. She attended St. Phillip and James Catholic Church in Meyersdale, Pa. Every summer, she traveled to Ocean City, Md., to the beach she loved very much. Sandy put love and spiritedness into all she did, especially her time with her family, whom she deeply loved.
She made everyone around her feel at home and made sure that everyone was fed. Little did her loved ones know just how special iced tea or an afternoon swinging on the porch at “Ima’s” house would mean so much. Many will fondly remember her kind and forthright nature. Jim is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Patricia Jane (Hoyman) Burkholder; 3 children: loving daughter: Cindy Blake (Craig); sons: David Burkholder; and James Burkholder (Ashley); grandchildren: Rebecca, Mistie, Ryan, Alex, Sadie, Owen, Sara and Oliver; great grandchildren: Ashton and Michael; and brother: Donald Burkholder. Jim is a U.S. Army veteran and was a cement mason and carpenter. He was a member of New Hope Church, Meyersdale. Jim loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather who will be sadly missed by his family, friends and all who knew and loved him. He loved to hunt and fish. Jeannie walked into her Father's arms in heaven and found peace. After graduating from Meyersdale High School, Jeannie left to work in Washington D.C. from there she lived the majority of her life in Virginia Beach until she came back home to help care for her parents. Jeannie retired from the Meyersdale Area Schools as a cafeteria worker. Jeannie is survived by her three children: Patricia (John) Boyle, New Jersey; Leonard (Tina) Johnston, Meyersdale and Kevin (Rose) Johnston, Virginia Beach. Jeannie was very much loved by her grandchildren: Shawn (Meryem), Paula (David), JoLynn (Robert), Leonard II (Paula), Amber, Angelica (fiancé Jacob) and Makayla. She has 9 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her beloved twin brother, Eugene Miller; sister: Donna Wells and many nieces and nephews. Jeannie was a caring mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She had a kind smile and a boisterous laugh. You could always find Jeannie faithfully reading her Bible. She also enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, going out to eat, shopping and watching tv. The family would like to thank the staff at Meyersdale Healthcare and Rehabilitation and Asera Care Hospice for all the loving care they provided for Jeannie. Preceded in death by his parents; sisters: Ruth Ann Pyle, Kathy Handwerk, and Brenda McClemens; and daughter-in-law: Beverly (Noble) Frampton.
Survived by his wife of 54 years, Mary Katheryn (Gindlesperger) Frampton; children: Ronald (Melissa) Frampton, Steven (Robin) Frampton, Bradley (Amanda) Frampton, Michael Frampton, and Jason (Lillian) Frampton; son-in-law: Mark Vinosky; 14 grandchildren; and 13 great grandchildren.
He retired in 2012 from Meyersdale Borough as the foreman and was a  member of the Maple Leaf Rod and Gun Club.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, and spending time with his family and 2 precious dogs.
Friends will be received from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. Wednesday at Price Funeral Service, Inc., Meyersdale. Obituary Preview: Loretta Jane (Fritz) Saylor, 91, of Meyersdale, went to be with the Lord, December 31, 2021, at Meyersdale Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center, Meyersdale.  She was born November 10, 1930 in Garrett, the daughter of Harry and Mary (Hillegass) Fritz.
Preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Harold Saylor, who passed November 26, 2019; two brothers, Alfred Fritz and Eugene Fritz; and, a sister, Doris F. Dunlap.
Survived by two sons: Dr. Randall (Paula) Saylor, Gibsonia, PA and Kent (Carol) Saylor, Meyersdale, and six grandchildren: Lindsay (Christopher) Ryan, Fairfield, CT; Erica (Joe) Euler, NYC; Aaron Saylor, Gibsonia; Gina (Ian) Thokar, Fairmont, WV; Andrew (Ashley) Saylor, Versailles, KY; and Zachary Saylor, Meyersdale. Also survived by a great-granddaughter, Lilly Renee Dunmeyer, and two great-grandsons: Liam Christopher Ryan and Evan Paul Thokar; and a sister-in-law, Mary Jane Campbell, Ponte Vedra Beach, FL.
Loretta was a 1948 graduate of Meyersdale High School, a 35-year member of the First Society of Farm Women and a longtime member of the Meyersdale Church of the Brethren where she taught Sunday School and sang in the choir.
She worked alongside her husband in managing a dairy farm; many times, milking the cows alone while the men were doing field work. Loretta was also the bookkeeper for the family business.
She loved spending time with her grandchildren and attending their many school activities. She was especially happy to see each grandchild graduate from college. Also, Loretta loved baking cookies for them, and in recent years, she enjoyed so much visiting with her great-grandchildren.
Special thanks go to her caregivers, Carol Cook and Shelba Porter, who cared for her in her home with kindness and respect. Also, special thanks to Meyersdale Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center for their care during her last days. The funeral service will be private as requested by the family, with Pastor Dottie Grew officiating. Interment will be in the Meyersdale Area Union Cemetery. She attended school in Garrett and attended high school in Meyersdale.  On December 22, 1962, Peggy married her late husband Oscar and they went on to have their son, Larry. Peggy loved to spend her time on the farm caring for her many animals, especially her dog Katie. She also enjoyed reading, embroidering, biking, and traveling with her sisters, Roberta and Tina. Peggy was preceded in death by her parents: Elwood and Ella Jean; and her husband: Oscar.  She is survived by her son: Larry and daughter-in-law Sherri (Sechler) Marker; her granddaughters: Renee (Antwain) Baxter, Kimberly (Jared) Goforth, and Kelsie Marker; her great granddaughters: Ella Goforth and Arabella Baxter. Her loss will also be deeply felt by her sisters: Roberta (Duane) Lindeman, and Tina (Ronald) Boyce, and numerous nieces, nephews and their children. Peggy was loved by many and will be missed by all who knew her. Tade was an Army veteran of the Vietnam War and retired from PennDOT as an operator. He spent as much time as he could at his cabin in West Virginia, where he enjoyed fishing and hunting, along with his good friend, Jack Sanner, and numerous other friends. He loved spending time with his family and grandchildren, and he enjoyed teaching them many things.
Family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Price Funeral Service, Meyersdale, where a funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday with Pastor Gabe Yoder officiating.
