Steven R. Potter - July 30, 1975 - April 06, 2020

Departed: 04/06/2020 (Middletown)
Obituary Preview: Steven R. Potter was born on July 30, 1975 in Middle-town, OH to Chris Brown and Theresa Hart and left our lives, but imprinted them immensely on April 6, 2020 at the tender age of 44 years in Dayton, OH. If we were all asked to use one word to describe Steven, there would be so many: son, father, nephew, friend, coach, mentor, barber and Dynamic — just to name a few. As a child growing up, Steven never hesitated to make his own path. He is a graduate of Middletown High School and overcame many medical obstacles throughout his childhood that made him stronger and a true solider and fighter. As an adult, Steven spent all of his free time lifting and building all of our futures. He always lent a listening ear and would try to guide us down the right path. Steven coached soccer for over 8 years working with various teams and he saw coaching soccer as one of his greatest joys of his life. He loved helping them on and off the field and would always push them to be the best they could. When it came to soccer or the opportunity for the kids, he was there. He would sweet talk the parents into extra tournaments; it was just too hard to tell him “NO”. He would want us to take his advice and educate ourselves and most of all, enjoy life. Steven Potter will truly be missed. Steven is preceded in death by his father, Chris Brown. He leaves to mourn, but cherish his memory: parents, Theresa and Stanley Hart; daughters, Ryan Potter, Shalesa Johnson, Zhailee, Destiny, Arionna and Aaliyah Long; sons, Nakilo Long and Elijah Potter; grand-daughter, Brendyn Short; and a host of other family members and friends.

Roscoe Smith, Sr. - September 27, 1963 - February 27, 2020

Departed: 02/27/2020 (Middletown)
Obituary Preview: Roscoe Smith, Sr. was born on September 27, 1963, the fifth child of Grady W. and Emma Elizabeth Smith in Middletown, Ohio. From infancy to adulthood, Roscoe possessed an even-tempered nature, infectious smile, and jovial laugh. Roscoe was educated in the Public Schools of Middletown, Ohio. Roscoe graduated from Middletown High School and was a member of the wrestling and tennis teams. He also attended D. Russell Lee Vocational and Technical School, where he trained and earned a certification in Metal Fabrication and Welding.
Roscoe was called to serve his country as a member of the United States Navy in September 1984. Following his recruitment as a Seaman, and completion of basic training, he was stationed on the USS Mt. Whitney LCC20 in Norfolk, Virginia. During his time in the Navy, he received an award for Meritorious Attention to Duty, Self-Sacrifice and Exemplary Conduct as 1st Squad Leader. He was promoted to Petty Officer 3rd Class and sub-sequently to Petty Officer 2nd Class. Roscoe was a qualified helmsman, a marksman, and participated in the International Naval Review July 4, 1986, in New York City in honor of the Centennial Anniversary of the Statue of Liberty. Upon completion of his active duty, Roscoe transferred to the Navy Reserves. Roscoe ended his military career with an Honorable Discharge in January 1990.
Roscoe worked for AK Steel for nearly 23 years as a steelworker, crane operator, and train driver before a serious illness, thought to be fatal, left him unable to continue in his profession in 2010. When the physicians depleted their medical and scientific knowledge of how to treat the illness, Jesus Christ stepped in at the last hour and performed a miracle. God removed the disease from his body and memory of the disease from his mind. For 10 post hospitalization years, Roscoe served the Lord with gladness and boldness. Roscoe was a member of the Administration Board of the Church. He served as an usher, community service usher, and was ordained a Deacon in June 2016. He performed in dramatic plays, kept the grounds of the church, and served the house of God in any capacity as needed. Roscoe LOVED the LORD and was NEVER afraid to demonstrate it through worship, praise, testimony or servitude.
Roscoe met the love of his life and ultimate best friend, who later became his wife of 28 years, Teresa Yates, in Allentown, Pennsylvania, over the Thanksgiving Holiday of 1988, while on leave. They were married February 14, 1992. Together they enjoyed parenthood, church, little league, scouting, PTA, Room Parenting at school, family vacations, camping, cheering Roscoe II on from the bleachers as he played football, baseball and basketball. In April 1998, they received a “precious gift from God”, their daughter, Amari Imani Smith. Roscoe had a huge heart and opened it to others. Roscoe and Teresa prayerfully accepted the role of godparents to Brionna Brown in 2005. He and his wife became the custodial guardians of protégées, Ive’ and Shadaya Berry in 2011. Roscoe was a responsible, attentive, nurturing role-model who could be found tutoring his children and grandchildren, nieces and nephews or cheering for them on the sidelines. Together, Roscoe and Teresa provided a strong foundation and spiritual background to their children using the five essential elements of responsible behavior — honesty, compassion/respect, fairness, accountability and courage combined with faith in God.
Roscoe’s legacy of faith and servitude continues on with his wife of 28 years, Teresa Smith (Yates); their son, Roscoe II (Latoria) of Kinston, North Carolina and daughter, Amari Imani of Fairfield; six grandchildren, Christian Carson Cornett, Sha’Myah Brown, Roscoe III, Rosc’Zierah, Ariel and Annastasia; two protégées, Ive’ Berry and Shadaya Berry; the unbreakable foundation for his faith, his mother, Emma Elizabeth Smith; beams of support, siblings, Minister Ellen Myers (William) of Monroe, Ohio, Pastor Elder Roger Smith (JoAnn), Grady Richard (Cheryl), Frankie, Andrew and Pastor Matthew Smith, all of Middletown, Ohio; a host of aunts, uncles, special nephews, nieces, cousins, in-laws, friends, church family, former coworkers, military comrades and neighbors complete his legacy. Roscoe is and will truly be missed. His smile, laughter and overall countenance was refreshing and just what the Lord ordered. Devoted child of God, husband, father, son, brother, friend, comrade, neighbor…Deacon Roscoe, “well done, thy good and faithful servant.”

Obituary Preview: APOSTLE JAMES A. LYLE was born July 13, 1945 to Thelma Lyle in Louisville, KY.  He is the second of three children; Emmanuel and Donna Lyle.  Apostle Lyle passed away peacefully into the arms of the Lord on November 22, 2019.
He attended Middletown City Schools and he then went to attend college at Miami University – Middletown.  He was a very intelligent and avid reader, always reading the newspaper and having a historical collection of the National Geographic Magazines.  He loved his collection, but he was always studying the Word of God day and night.  Anytime you seen him, he was always extremely well groomed from head to toe.  He took pride in his appearance and made sure his wife as well.  He obtained employment at Armco, Frigidaire, and Delphi-General Motors of Dayton, OH from which he retired after 31 years.
In 1963, he met the love of his life, Lenita Simmons in high school and was married in 1968.  This union lasted over 51 years and produced four wonderful children; Nicolle, Shelley, Jimmy, and Jeremy.  He was an amazing father and husband, a great provider and always took his family on vacation and fishing trips.  He spent valuable time with his wife and children and made sure that they never wanted for anything.
He accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior in 1973 at the Isle of Patmos Holiness Tabernacle in Dayton, OH under the leadership of the late Bishop Lucy McGuffey.  He led the way as his wife soon followed and joined the church on Father’s Day.  He served in many areas and positions from Sunday School teacher to choir member, Church Elder, and Church Evangelist.  They soon became known as a ministry power couple serving at The Isle for nearly 20 years and evangelizing all over the tri-state area.
Following the unction of the Holy Ghost, Bishop Lucy McGuffey anointed and confirmed the call of God to the Pastorate, not knowing a few months later, God would call her home on April 27, 1992.  Finally, on November 4, 1992 they founded and launched Unity Tabernacle Full Gospel Church in Middletown, OH.  He was elected to the office of Bishop in 1998 and confirmed an Apostle in 2000.  Yet while pastoring, he continued to evangelize traveling across the county and to the Bahamas.
From Unity Tabernacle, he covered ministries in Oklahoma, California, and Ohio.  He also released leader into the harvest in Phoenix, AZ; Tulsa, OK; and Dayton, OH.  In 2003, God shifted the ministry to Bakersfield, CA where they continued to minister up and down the west coast.  Apostle Lyle had a special love for music and kept and enormous musical collection.  He loved to sing and play the piano.  The anointing upon his voice and unique vocal ability had him in demand to sing his favorite song, “I Won’t Complain”, all over the country.
God had shown His continued love toward Apostle Lyle many times.  He healed him of poisoned tonsils, cellulitis, and cancer.  On top of that, God made sure he far surpassed the doctor’s prognosis after suffering two stokes.  He may have been bedridden, but he was still in his right mind, laughing, loving, and ministering an additional 12 years.  On June 15, 2014, Apostle James and Pastor Lenita Lyle joined Word of Deliverance Ministries for the World, Inc. under the leadership of Bishop Bobby and Dr. Valda Hilton.
For over 51 years, Pastor Lenita stood firm and ever faithfully devoted to her “James”.  Always telling him how much she loved him…thanked God from him...and thanked James for being the love of her life.  He always looked forward to a sucker and kiss from his “Nita”.
We thank God for his life.  He will be missed as another soldier has went home to be with the Lord.  His mission has been fulfilled…he has met his destiny and left an indelible legacy.
Apostle Lyle was preceded in death by his mother, Thelma Lyle; brother, Emmanuel Lyle; and sister, Donna Lyle.  He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, Pastor Lenita Lyle and four children, Nicolle (Jeremy) Thompson, Shelley (Loyde) Kawalsingh, James A. (Doris ) Lyle, Jr, and Jeremy (Jacqueline) Lyle, 18 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren (whom always loved to call on and hug “Papu”), and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
