Willard Shaw - August 15, 1954 - April 05, 2024

Departed: 04/05/2024 (Presque Isle)
Obituary Preview: FORT FAIRFIELD: In loving memory of devoted husband and father, Willard Shaw, who passed away after a long illness on April 5 th , 2024 at Northern Light AR Gould hospital in Presque Isle. He was the devoted husband of Donna (Lovley) Shaw and loving father of Paula & Christopher Perkins, Linwood “Woody” & Heather Shaw, and Troy Shaw & Cassie White. What brought dad the most joy was his grandchildren Hunter Perkins & fiancé Joey Lippo, Shelby, Jessica & Samantha Shaw, Nathan Morrow, Kearstin Coty, & Katelyn Michaud, Chandler White, Bailey White, and great grandson Jasper Shaw. He will be deeply missed by all who know him, including brothers Colby, Robert & William Shaw, and sisters Bertha (predeceased), Mary (predeceased), Edith, Margie and Donna. As well as multiple nieces and nephews…and countless friends, especially special in-laws Billy & Sonya (predeceased) Gardiner and Roy & Rose Lovley. One of the kindest men on this planet, our father was a gentle, giving man who worked tirelessly to ensure that his family had everything they needed. He faced every challenge in life with admirable strength and courage, even in the face of insurmountable odds. Early in life, our father learned the importance of hard work by working in the electrical field for 30+ years, most of which were with Frank Clair’s Electric, and he instilled that same work ethic in us. If you ever met him, you immediately were a friend. He was always there for us, whether we needed help fixing the car he backed into on the way to camp, replacing the many power tools he destroyed trying to complete simple tasks around the house, or providing a silly expression to lighten the mood when he knew you were having a tough day. He was a man that taught us the importance of family, hard work and doing what is right. He always made sure you knew how proud he was of all your accomplishments. Our father was a true role model who we will always look up to. A graveside service is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 1st, at Fairmount Cemetery in Presque Isle officiated by family friends Howie & Heidi Cushman. A celebration of life will directly follow the service

He lived most of his life in Presque Isle—the only brother of eight sisters who adored him. He was a lifelong member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Parish of the Precious Blood, in Presque Isle.
Roger and his teenage sweetheart, Opal, loved all kinds of dancing their whole lives, including square dancing at Zippel School in Presque Isle and line dancing at the Lions Hall in Mapleton. Frequently Asked Questions

What is an obituary?

An obituary is a written notice that announces the death of a person, typically including their name, age, date of birth and death, and a brief biography. It's often used to share information about the deceased with family, friends, and community members.

Why are obituaries important?

Obituaries serve as a way to honor and remember the life of the deceased, while also providing essential information to those who need it. They can help notify people of the passing, share details about funeral services, and offer a sense of closure for loved ones.

Who writes an obituary?

Typically, the family of the deceased or a close friend writes the obituary. In some cases, a funeral home or crematorium may assist with writing the obituary or provide a template to help guide the process.

What information should be included in an obituary?

A standard obituary usually includes the person's name, age, date of birth and death, place of residence, occupation, education, military service (if applicable), and surviving family members. You may also choose to include hobbies, interests, achievements, or other personal details that celebrate the person's life.

How long should an obituary be?

The length of an obituary can vary depending on the publication or online platform where it will be published. Generally, it's best to keep it concise and focused on the most important details. Aim for around 100-200 words.

Can I include photos in an obituary?

Yes! Many publications and online platforms allow you to include one or more photos with the obituary. This can be a great way to add a personal touch and help readers visualize the person being remembered.

How do I submit an obituary to a newspaper or online platform?

Contact the publication or platform directly to learn their specific submission guidelines and deadlines. Some may accept submissions via email or online forms, while others may require you to visit their office in person.

Is there a cost associated with publishing an obituary?

Can I write my own obituary in advance?

What is a death notice?

How do I handle errors or corrections in an obituary?

If you notice an error in an already-published obituary, contact the publication or platform immediately to request corrections. Be prepared to provide proof of the error and suggested corrections.

Can I republish an obituary from another source?

You may need permission from the original publisher or author to republish an obituary. Be sure to check copyright laws and obtain necessary permissions before sharing someone else's work.

What is a living obituary?

Are there any specific guidelines for writing an obituary for someone who was young or died suddenly?

Yes. When writing an obituary for someone who died young or suddenly, it's essential to be sensitive to the grieving family and focus on celebrating their life rather than dwelling on the circumstances of their passing.

Can I include humor or lighthearted anecdotes in an obituary?

Absolutely! Humor can be a wonderful way to capture someone's personality and spirit. Just be sure to use good judgment and avoid anything that might offend or upset readers.

What is the purpose of publishing an obituary online?

How long do online obituaries remain available?
