Beverly Jane (Oxley) Smith, daughter of Lee F. Oxley and Alice Maxine (McDaniel) Oxley, was born on January 9, 1962, in Shawnee, Kansas. She was educated at Olathe North High School in Olathe, Kansas. She raised four children, Bobby, Jerry, Jacob and Elizabeth.
Having moved to Winterset, Bev owned and operated the Starlight Café in Winterset for many years. She completed her working career, serving as the manager for the last 15 years at Git & Go Convenience Store in Winterset. Her recent illness, came as a surprise. Beverly loved family and friends, dancing and riding motorcycles, drinking coffee, collecting recipes and playing pool in local leagues.
Bev was survived by her son, Jacob (Canzetta) Farmer of Pomona, Kansas and daughter Elizabeth (Shea) Hunter of Pomona, Kansas; six grandchildren Zoe, Brentley and Hartlynn Farmer and Daisy, Ruby and Shelby Hunter; her boyfriend Randy Scarberry; a brother Roger (Sondra Webb) Oxley of Leavenworth, Kansas and a sister Cheryl Oxley of Hillsdale, Kansas; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family.
Bev was preceded in death by her parents, two sons Bobby Farmer and Jerry Farmer and two brothers, Glenn Oxley and Marlin Oxley.

Open visitation will be 2-7:00 p.m., Monday, March 18, 2024, at Powers Funeral Home in Creston, with family receiving friends 5-7:00 p.m. Flag presentation by the Theodore J. Martens Post 1797 of the Creston V.F.W. Memorials may be directed to Salem Lutheran Church or the Union County Historical Society. Online condolences can be given at www.powersfh.com.
Donald Wayne Mosman, son of Chester Roquel Mosman and Florence Christine (Hultquist) Mosman, was born on September 13, 1930, in Montgomery County, Iowa. Don schooled at #5 Lincoln country school and graduated from Creston High School in 1948. He later studied electronics. Don committed to the United States Air Force in January 1951, and first served in Alaska, then to Sumter, South Carolina finishing his service in January 1955.
On May 6, 1952, Don married Helen Faye Bolton in Grant City, Missouri. Returning to Creston, Don worked for Morrow Electric, later purchasing the television portion of that business in 1961. In 1970 he added appliances known as Mosman TV & Appliance. He later sold his business in stages, to his ambitious employee John Cook.
Don was a longtime member of the Salem Lutheran Church of Creston, a lifetime member of the Creston Elks Lodge, serving as State Vice-President, Exalted Ruler and District Deputy. He was also a lifetime member of the Creston VFW, and was a member with the Creston Masonic Lodge, a member of the ZaGaZig Shriners for over 60 years, and an active member of the Crestmoor Golf Club, serving as President for 2 years, and the Creston Parks and Rec. Board member. Don also served 3 years on the Creston School Board, was voted “Citizen of the Year” in 2004 and was President and Secretary of the Union County Historical Society 2003-2015.
Don volunteered cooking and serving with all of these groups in addition to the Greater Regional Health as an informational guide and with Lifeline, doing installations.
Don is survived by his beloved wife of 71 plus years, Helen Mosman of Creston; a daughter Terri “Ri” (Terry) Hannah of Redfield, Iowa and a son Douglas (Nancy) Mosman of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; one sister, Dorothy (Harvey) Shields of Afton; a sister-in-law Marilyn Miller of Creston; five grandchildren, Genny Mosman, Sasha Mosman, Bon Mosman, Brenden (Erin) Hannah and Derek (Kayla) Hannah; six great-grandchildren, Hadley Sedore, Spencer Mosman, Parker, Ellie, Hayes and Cash Hannah; and many other beloved extended family.

Nelle Catherine Utterback, daughter of Milree Ethelyn Gummere and Clarence Alfred Rundberg, was born on January 22, 1936, at home in Des Moines. Nelle attended Creston schools where she earned her G.E.D.
On June 23, 1951, she was united in marriage to Lewis Edward Utterback in Greenfield. The two settled in Creston. Nelle worked as a cook for the school for seven years and babysat in Creston. Next, she worked 7 years for GET Plastics making silk ads to put on coin purses, making silk screens, and type settings. Nelle was then employed at Wellman’s Dynamics as a casting cleaner for 20 years. After retiring, she volunteered and babysat until her health declined. Every month the ladies of Wellman’s would get together for dinner. She didn’t know what she would have done without her dear friends: Debbie Gordon, Jan Osborne, Linda Linch, Teresa Wilson, Chris “Twiggy” Gillam, Kathy Nelson, Jean Woosley, and Robbie Bartley. Nelle greatly appreciated her children, especially when Greg helped around the house and yard and when Deb and Tom would come to visit her.
Nelle is survived by her children, Greg Utterback of Creston and Debbie Schieffer of Waukee; 4 grandchildren: Jennifer (husband Doug) Bird of Des Moines, Catherine (husband Kole) Young of Ankeny, Krista Schieffer of Fort Lauderdale, Fl., and Greg Scheiffer of Ames; 5 great-grandchildren: Hunter Bird, Bentley, Scarlett, and Madison Young, Tom Schieffer. her sister, Alvie Reed of Creston; her brother, Ray (Jack) Rundberg of Surprise, Az.; along with many nieces, nephews, cousins and other extended family.
Nelle is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Lewis Utterback; a son-in-law Tom Schieffer; siblings: Edna (Jodi) Rundberg, Rosemary Stansberry, Charlotte Palen, Bud Rundberg, and Mary Hunter; her grandmother, Ethelyn Dorman, and her great-grandfather, Alvarach Gummere.
