Verna was born August 24, 1932, in Sigourney, to Myrl and Ethel (Hollingsworth) Appleget. She attended Doggett school eight years and graduated from Sigourney High School in 1950. Verna then attended AIB in Des Moines. On June 22, 1952, she married C. Gene Edmundson at the Sigourney United Methodist Church. The couple lived in Sigourney where Verna worked at the Sheriff's Office, Clerk of Court, Recorder's Office and 20 years in the Keokuk County Engineering Department, retiring in 1990. She was a member of the Sigourney United Methodist Church and enjoyed golfing with her husband, traveling, especially her trip to Germany, and spending time with family and friends. Survivors include two sons: David (Becky) Edmundson of Eldridge and Joe (Stacy) Edmundson of Andover, Kansas; five grandchildren: Scott, Rachel, Mitchell, Jack and Nick; brother: Rex (Barb) Appleget of Swisher; sister: Ruth Deitrich of Davenport; two sisters-in-law: Jean Appleget and Rosemary Appleget; many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband: Gene "Weenie" Edmundson; two brothers: Dean and Clarence Appleget and brother-in-law: John Deitrich. Funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, February 23, 2022, at the Sigourney United Methodist Church, with Rev. Cathy Nutting officiating. Burial will be at Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Sigourney. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 22, 2022, at Powell Funeral Home in Sigourney. Pam was born May 11, 1962, in Spencer, Iowa, to Richard and Beverly (Sloan) de Regnier and graduated from Sigourney High School in 1980. On May 29, 1982, she married Kenneth McLaughlin in Sigourney. The couple lived in the Thornburg community for eight years before moving to their family farm near Hayesville. Pam was a homemaker and cook at Sigourney Schools for 18 years, retiring in 2016. She and Ken were also foster parents from 2000 until 2018. Pam belonged to a local quilting club and enjoyed sewing, quilting and caring for her grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters: Regina Conner and Evelyn Stultz and two brothers: Charles Punteney and Van Punteney. Memorial service will be held at a later date in Council Bluffs. Burial will be at Walnut Hill Cemetery in Council Bluffs at a later date. She graduated from Sigourney High School in 1976 and received her LPN from Indian Hills Community College in Ottumwa. Mary was united in marriage to William "Bill" Klett on July 30, 1983. She worked as a nurse at St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids, Manor House Care Center, Sigourney Care Center and Maplewood Manor in Keota. Mary enjoyed spending time with family and friends, especially her grandchildren. Mary loved watching the birds and squirrels and caring for her cats, Angel and Gracie.
Survivors include her son: Jake (Rebecca) Klett; three grandchildren: Troy, Cole & Lorelai Klett, all of Sigourney; two brothers: Mike (Joyce) Pfannebecker of Sigourney and Paul (Cindy) Pfannebecker of Waseca, Minnesota and two sisters: Jennifer Hanson of Atlantic and Andrea Kerkove of Oskaloosa. Bill was united in marriage to Mary Elizabeth Pfannebecker on July 30, 1983. He was a forklift operator at Clow from September 1987 until retiring in September 2017. Bill enjoyed golfing, pheasant hunting and spending time with his grandchildren and friends.
He is survived by his wife Mary Klett; son Jake (Rebecca) Klett; three grandchildren Troy, Cole & Lorelai Klett, all of Sigourney; three brothers Mike (Cheryl) Wessels of Granger, Robert (Linda) Klett and Donald (Melissa) Klett; and a sister Lura Ann (Mike) Renner all of Sigourney. He was preceded in death by his parents John & Kathryn Klett.

Mary was born October 18, 1927, in Ollie, to Guy and Mae (Mellott) Reiner and graduated from Ollie High School. She married Paul Garrett in Sigourney and they had one son, Larry. Paul passed away on August 9, 1981, and she then married Ivan Beach. A homemaker, Mary enjoyed BINGO, dancing, fishing and mushroom hunting.
Survivors include her son: Larry (Kelly) Garrett of Sigourney; two granddaughters: Heather (David) Gerard and Stacey (Kenny) Roethler; two great grandchildren and a sister: Thelma Shy of Richland. She was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands; brother: Leland Reiner and sister: Evelyn Dugger.
Her body has been cremated and no services are planned at this time.

After a five year dance with cancer, Megan Donavon Guenthner Clark of Sigourney passed away peacefully on October 19, 2021 at the Keokuk County Hospital. Megan was born on January 18, 1978 in Omaha, Nebraska. She spent her childhood in Papillion, Nebraska and was a member of the 1996 graduating class from Papillion-LaVista High School. She was an avid artist throughout her life and a soccer player from age 8 through JV in high school. She went off to Marine boot camp at Paris Island in 2002. After living for a time in Gulf Shores, Alabama and then in Clearwater, Florida, Megan moved to Sigourney with her then 2 and 3 year old sons in March of 2011. She fell in love with the town as much as the town fell in love with her. Megan was an artist by trade and exhibited her works at various large arts festivals around the Midwest. Her artwork and art creations adorn countless homes and business and the dove artwork she created in honor of the victims of the Sandy Hook school shootings in 2012 now hangs in the Newton, Connecticut city hall. Megan lived her life out loud with no apologies. Megan believed that there were no strangers, only people she had not yet met. She spent most of her time focused on her boys and finding ways to help others that needed help of any kind.
Megan is survived by her sons Wells (14) and Owen (13), her parents Christie and Gary Iosbaker of Sigourney and Dave Guenthner (Gale) of Omaha; sister Teri Vermillion of Georgetown, Tx; sister Heather Sciford of Sigourney; brother Scott Guenthner (Cynthia) of Denver; sister Kellie Schwab (John) of Brownwood, TX; brother Ben Guenthner (Mindy) of Omaha, NE; brother Nick Guenthner of Omaha, NE; and sister Aly Guenthner of Omaha, NE; Grandmother Jackie Iosbaker of Sigourney; and a wonderful collection of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. And a million friends.

Doris was born September 10, 1920, in Keswick, to Lewis Leroy "Roy" and Mabel (Sears) Caskey and graduated from Keswick High School. On December 24, 1938, she married Charles "Bob" Hanchett. The couple lived in Detroit for a short time where Doris worked making Christmas wreaths. They then moved back to the Sigourney area and farmed northwest of town for several years. Doris also helped her daughter at Main Street Florist for nearly 12 years. Doris was a member of the Scattergood Club and Rebekah Lodge. She enjoyed crocheting and reading.
Survivors include four children Gary (Connie) Hanchett of Deep River, Linda (Gary) Schaefer of Sigourney, Ron (Teresa) Hanchett of Ames and John (Jill) Hanchett of Sigourney; 10 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; 16 great-great-grandchildren and sister-in-law: Ruth Hanchett. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband: Bob in 2010; two grandchildren: John Logan Hanchett in 1988 and Angela Hanchett in 2014; three brothers: Orley, Russell and Norman Caskey and one sister: Velma Cranston.
Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 3, 2021, at Powell Funeral Home in Sigourney, with Pastor Joe Hohenshell officiating. The service will also be livestreamed on the Powell Funeral Home facebook page. Burial will be at North English Cemetery. Paulette was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Sigourney, the Altar and Rosary Society, Listen-A-Bit Club and Silver Buckles Dance Club. She enjoyed cooking, baking and attending her grandchildren's activities.
Survivors include three children: Nickolas Wehr, Jill Wehr and Erik (Brandi) Wehr, all of Sigourney; nine grandchildren: Nolan (fiancé Maizie) and Jolie Wehr, Alyssa and Austin Landgrebe and Wyatt, Klayton, Paxton, Quinton and Alexis Wehr; parents: Kenneth and Lois Fogle of Sigourney and three sisters: Brenda Long of Pella, Crystal Fogle of Kansas and DeAnne Brinning of Kansas. She was preceded in death by her husband: Robert Wehr; a daughter: Natasha Wehr and nephew: Derek Long.

Bob was born October 22, 1950, in Ottumwa, to Joseph and Wilma (Dumont) Wehr and graduated from Sigourney High School in 1968. On September 2 ,1972, he married Paulette Fogle in Sigourney. Bob served in the 872nd Maintenance Co. in the Army Reserves for six years. After high school he worked at Cassens Mill, Wayne Feeds, Marvin Byers doing grain bin construction and carpenter work with Raymond Niman. He was a 4th generation farmer, working with his grandpa Wehr, father, uncle Clement and Dumont uncles before taking over the farming operation. He also did custom baling for over 45 years. Bob was also a dealer for many seed companies, starting with McCurdy and ending with LG Seeds. Bob was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Sigourney, Farm Bureau, Keokuk County Cattlemen's Association, American Angus Association, Silver Buckles Dance Club and Corvette Club in Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include his wife: Paulette; three children: Nickolas Wehr, Jill Wehr and Erik (Brandi) Wehr, all of Sigourney; nine grandchildren: Nolan (fiancé Maizie) and Jolie Wehr, Alyssa and Austin Landgrebe and Wyatt, Klayton, Paxton, Quinton and Alexis Wehr; two sisters: Mary Lewis of Des Moines and Jeanette Gent of Kalona and in-laws: Kenneth and Lois Fogle. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother: Russell Wehr and a daughter: Natasha Wehr.

Orval was born October 24, 1919, in Wellman, to Charles and Etta (Wade) Hradek. He graduated from Wellman High School and attended Junior College for one year. On September 28, 1940, Orval married Mary Catherine Ballensky in Lancaster, Missouri. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. Orval farmed for 45 years and also did electrical work for 16 years and sold insurance for 12 years, retiring in 1985. He was a member of the Sigourney United Methodist Church, Gideons, 50 year member of the Masonic Lodge, Consistory and Shrine and was a charter member of the Ollie Lions Club.
Survivors include two sons: Doug (Charlette) Hradek of Urbandale and Lanny (Susan) Hradek of St. Charles, Missouri; six grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren and one on the way and a great great granddaughter. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife: Mary Catherine in 1992; brother: Wilbur Hradek; grandson: Brian Hradek and longtime companion: Phyllis Clingan.
Memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, September 17, 2021, at Sigourney United Methodist Church, with Pastor Cathy Nutting officiating. The service will also be livestreamed on the Powell Funeral Home facebook page. Burial with military honors will be at Pennington Cemetery in rural Sigourney. She later worked as a medical secretary for Drs. E.R. Gann and Lee McClenahan. Her last place of employment before retiring was in the office of the Keokuk County Hospital as an insurance clerk. Margaret was a member of the Sigourney United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women and the Keokuk County Historical Society. She enjoyed her family and knitting, making thousands of dish cloths for family and friends.
Survivors include two sons: Randy (Connie) Hollingsworth of Omaha, Nebraska and Ken (Missy) Hollingsworth of Albia; seven grandchildren: Chad (Jill) Hollingsworth, Lindsay (Dave Walk) Steinhart, Mandy (Frank) Cox, Makenzie, Kordell, Kyle and Kody Hollingsworth; granddaughter-in-law: Crystal Hornback and six great grandchildren: Hailey Gillum, Grady and Maris Steinhart, Megan and Ashley Hollingsworth and Madelynn Hornback. Mary was born June 22, 1953, in Sigourney, to Stanley and Dorothy (Roberts) Peiffer and graduated from Sigourney High School in 1971. On June 25, 1971, she married Larry Bird at the Hayesville Community Church. The couple lived in Rose Hill for 10 years before moving to Hayesville. Mary was a Teacher's Aide at the school for several years then became a stay-at-home grandma for her grandchildren until they went to school. She then did wedding dress alterations for Matthew Christopher for 14 years, retiring in 2017. Mary continued to alter prom dresses and dance costumes until her health prohibited it. She enjoyed reading, cross stitch, sewing, quilting, especially making quilts of valor, traveling and going on motorcycle rides.
Survivors include her husband of 50 years: Larry; daughter: Angel (Johnny) Dale of Sigourney; sons: Larry, Jr. of Oskaloosa and Shawn (Melissa) Bird of Hayesville; five grandchildren: Johnny Dale, Jr., Allyson (Justin Craig) Bird, Caleigh Dale, Samantha (Noah) Boender and Gavin Bird; two great grandchildren: Jayla Craig and Jackson Boender and two sisters: Essie Meyer of Hayesville and Vida Pilkington of Belle Plaine. Georgia did in-home babysitting for 31 years. She was an active member of the Delta United Methodist Church and enjoyed crocheting, crossword puzzles and old westerns.

Shirley was born February 21, 1937 in What Cheer, Iowa to Eileen (Danner) and Roy Fogle. She graduated from What Cheer High School in 1955. She married Edward "Ed" Woods July 2, 1957 at the Methodist Chapel in Oskaloosa. While Ed was in the Air Force, they lived in Spokane, Washington. Once Ed was discharged, they moved back to Sigourney and started a family. Ed's job with GTE moved them to Keota, Malcom and back to Sigourney. Shirley worked as a telephone operator and a cook at several restaurants. She was a devoted wife and homemaker. She spent her life enjoying and taking care of her family. Shirley was a member of the Sigourney United Methodist Church.
Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, Edward, parents Eileen and Roy Fogle, an infant sibling, sister Ruby Draughn and brother Ray Fogle.
Those left to mourn her passing are her five children - Bradley (Nena) Woods of Sigourney, Sally (Mike) Briggs of Grimes, Denise (John) Mohr of Sigourney, Dennis (Cathy) Woods of Rock Island, IL and Bryan (Michele) Woods of Kimball, NE. Deb was born to Kenneth and Lynda (Hahn) Krueger on October 19, 1971 in Ottumwa, Iowa. After graduating from Pekin High School in 1990, she went to Concordia University in Seward, Nebraska for two years before transferring to the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls, Iowa. She graduated in 1996 with a degree in Leisure Services. Deb's heart for children, camp ministry and outdoor adventures took her many places throughout her life. She spent several summers as a camp counselor and summer program director at Camp Io-Dis-E-Ca in Solon, Iowa before spending a year in Estes Park, Colorado as an activities director at a local youth ministry camp. After Colorado her adventurous heart took her to Tennessee where she began working as a full-time nanny. The family ultimately moved to Boston, and she had the opportunity to move with them but she loved the Nashville area and had made many friends, and decided to make it her home. She began working as the facilities and communications coordinator for a church in East Brentwood before seizing the opportunity to work as a program director then director at NaCoMe Camp and Retreat Center in Pleasantville, Tennessee. While she loved her job, her love of helping people, compassion, and caring nature ultimately inspired her to further her education by going to EMT school to support the community she cared about so much. Deb graduated with Cum Laude honors from Columbia State Community College and began working as an AEMT and ER Technician. Those who knew Deb knew she was never afraid of hard work or getting a little dirty. She loved the outdoors, spending time with those she was closest to, taking care of her animals, making crafts, wood working and the Chicago Bears.
She is preceded in death by her grandparents Lawrence and Edna Hahn, Arnold and Velma Krueger, Great Uncle Raymond Pitsch, Uncle Eugene Snakenberg, adoptive grandparents and close friends. She is survived by her parents Kenneth and Lynda Krueger of Ollie, brother Rick (Kristina) Krueger of Sigourney, sister Kathy (Andrew) Guy of Phoenix, Arizona, nephew Ty Krueger, Aunt Maryetta Snakenberg, Uncle Robert (Judith) Krueger, cousins and many friends in Iowa and Tennessee.

Lois was born April 23, 1931, to Guy and Julia (Baker) Masterson, in an old leaky farm house located between the Des Moines River and the railroad tracks near Tracy, Iowa. All her young life she lived on farms and attended Tracy school where she graduated in 1948. She attended Central College and earned an Elementary Teaching Certificate. Later she received a B.A. degree at William Penn College. She began teaching in 1950. Lois taught elementary and junior high in Sigourney Schools for 28 years, Webster Schools for two years and Christian Academy in What Cheer for seven years, retiring in 1994. On June 22, 1952, Lois was married to Shorty Edmundson in a double wedding ceremony. He passed away in 1994. She spent retirement winters in Weslaco, Texas, and it was there she met Ray Batchelder. They were married in 2000. Ray died in 2015. On January 27, 1974, Lois became a Born-again Christian and spent the rest of her life living for the Lord. In Texas she was a member of the Mid-Valley Church of the Nazarene. In Iowa she was a member of Hilltop Chapel, the Keokuk County Retired School Personnel, the Red Hats and the Monday night Ladies' Bible Study. In January 2014, she helped present the Ladies' Retreat at Lancaster Church.
Survivors include her daughter: Joyce Edmundson Bowman; granddaughter: Julia Bowman; sister-in-law: Verna Edmundson; several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents; sister: Wilma Douglas and both husbands.
Private funeral service will be held at Powell Funeral Home in Sigourney. Burial will be at Sixteen Cemetery near Thornburg. Public visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. Thursday, December 3, 2020, at the funeral home.

On January 19, 1963, she married Don Borts in Knoxville. The couple lived in Mingo, Ames and Pocahontas before moving to Sigourney. Dortha worked at Vernon Company in Newton, Iowa State University, Sigourney Elementary School, Greenley Corporation and Sigourney flower shops before retiring. She was a member of P.E.O. and the Sigourney United Methodist Church. Dortha enjoyed wintering in Arizona for 17 years, traveling the United States - visiting all 50, going to Branson, square dancing, gardening, flowers, bowling, watching the races in Oskaloosa, fishing, was a wonderful cook and made numerous crafts.
Survivors include her husband: Don of Sigourney; daughter: Susan (Paul) Engelken and their son Zackery Engelken of Woodward; son: David (Tracy) Borts and their children Emily and Jack Borts; four siblings: Sharon Dykstra, Danny DeMoss, Mary DeMoss and Rita DeMoss; many nieces and nephews. Donnie attended the Delta United Methodist Church, was an East Lancaster Township Trustee for 40 years and served as President and member of the Sigourney Volunteer Fire Board for 38 years. He enjoyed hunting, shooting, reloading shells, working in the shop and cutting wood.
Survivors include three children: Leta (Dale) Tedrow of Douds, Betty Waechter of Sigourney and Larry (Lori) Pence of Sigourney; 10 grandchildren: Matthew, Brandin, Tylor, Adam, Michael, Morgan, Mark, Bryce, Brooke and Brayden and 16 great grandchildren.
