Departed: 10/31/2023 (Porter)
Obituary Preview: In Loving Memory of Juan Carlos Cabra-Cruz 4/28/1964- 10/31/2023
It is with immeasurable sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Juan. After a tenacious battle with cancer, Juan Carlos Cabra-Cruz slipped peacefully into rest on October 31, 2023.
Juan was a loving husband, devoted father, cherished brother, and adored uncle. He was also a dear and loyal friend to so many. His departure has left a void in our hearts that will only be filled when we are reunited with him once again.
Juan Carlos was born in Chiquinquira, Colombia to Lucila and Ricardo Cabra on April 28, 1964. The baby of the family, Juan, along with siblings William, German and Clara, spent his childhood years in Bogota.
In 1987, Juan moved to the United States. At the age of 23, he boldly learned the English language, embraced a brand new culture and embarked on educational and occupational pursuits that brought him great success. Celebrating his gained citizenship in 2004, Juan was very proud to call America his home.
Juan was truly passionate about helping people, it was just in his wiring. The combination of his zealous servant’s heart and an intense drive to truly help people, naturally led him into a life-long career in the medical field. This was not only the perfect path for him, it was his absolute calling. Juan’s dedication to his academic studies, along with his rigorous determination, fruitfully yielded an accomplished career spanning from paramedic, respiratory therapy, nursing and finally Operations Administrator. Juan was a well-respected professional and he considered his colleagues at Memorial Hermann his family.
Juan’s career also led him to his sweetheart, as he met Stephanie in 1998, when they were both working as respiratory therapists. Juan and Stephanie married on April 3, 1999. Their marriage was blessed by the birth of Juan’s absolute pride and joy, Wesley. Soon after, the birth of their precious Morgan had Juan wrapped tightly around his daughter’s finger from that moment forward. Juan was very protective of his “little family” as he often affectionately referred to them.
Juan loved to have fun. Just as much, if not more than, he loved other people to be having fun. He seemed to be on a continuous mission ensuring everyone around him was comfortable, happy and enjoying themselves. His family made many cherished memories on vacations in the mountains, at the beach, and visiting Colombia. He very much enjoyed being in nature and hunting with his son. He also loved to watch his daughter participate in dance activities. Juan took great pleasure in entertaining friends and family at their home. He was a master at the grill and loved to feed people! In essence, he was most content making others feel good. Juan was a proficient woodworker and an avid cyclist. He participated in the MS 150 twice, and for Juan, contributing to the causes and charities involved were important pieces to that activity.
Juan will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His memory will forever be etched in our hearts. Juan often said that we “Should treat everyone the same, after all, we are all God’s children.” He lived his life that way. May his life and words inspire us all to do the same.
Preceded in death by his parents, Maria Lucila Cruz de Cabra and Ricardo Cabra Garzon.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 24 years, Stephanie Lyne Cabra, children, Wesley Stephen and Morgan Alexandra, brothers William Ricardo and Edgar German, sister Clara Cabra-Sanchez.

Kathryn Ann Garg - September 26, 1945 - April 05, 2023

Departed: 04/05/2023 (Porter)
Obituary Preview: Kathryn Ann (Alexander) Garg, known as K’Ann to some, Kitty to others, went to be with the Lord on April 5, 2023, surrounded by her daughters. She was 77 years old.
K’Ann was born in 1945 in Charleroi, Pennsylvania to Adam Wilson “A.W.” and Catherine (Rusilko) Alexander. She grew up with her older sister Joyce and younger brother Danny in a small community surrounded by many aunts, uncles, and cousins, as well as her cherished grandmother, Antonia Rusilko, who she called her “Bubba.” After finishing high school, K’Ann matriculated from nursing school in 1966. She had her first daughter, Kristine Ann that year, and 15 months later, gave birth to Tracy Lynn in 1967.
Kitty proved herself to be a skillful RN, rising to the position of Charge Nurse quickly. She prided herself on her ability to balance a large patient load and her team of nurses while still providing compassionate care to the patients she served.
Kitty was an avid bowler, and was quite proud of her very own red bowling ball and the bowling team she was a part of, where she bowled an average of 165. In 1976, her bowling partner set her up on a blind date with a handsome dark-haired man who wore bell bottom jeans and drove a sports car, Vijay Garg. He would later become her husband of nearly 30 years. The pair moved to Houston, Texas with their two daughters in 1980 and shortly thereafter, welcomed their third daughter, Sabrina Catherine in 1983.
Throughout her life, she continued with her passion for nursing, serving her patients in various aspects of the healthcare spectrum, from inpatient nursing care, to home health services where she lovingly took care of some of the most impoverished people in Houston. She was at the forefront of providing nursing services to those diagnosed with AIDS in the earliest years when the medical community didn’t know much about the disease, and became a fierce advocate for their care. She eventually transitioned to home hospice nursing, and became the director of a hospice center in Houston, where she was beloved by her coworkers and patients alike.
At home, Kitty taught her daughters and grandchildren the importance of showing kindness to others, and always providing a helping hand, hot meal or warm smile to those in need. She oftentimes had a mischievous twinkle in her eye, and passed on her wicked sense of humor to more than a few of her family members, commonly delivering zingers that would leave everyone around her doubled over in laughter. She loved decorating for all of the holidays. She went all out for birthday parties and Halloween, was the queen of crafting and costume making, whipped up huge feasts for Thanksgiving and Christmas with tables bursting with family and love, and created the most precious of memories for her family in the process.
Kitty is preceded in death by her mother, father, sister, brother and husband. She is survived by her daughters Kristine (Steve) Potter, Tracy (Chuck) Burns, Sabrina (Jason) Young, grandchildren Alisha, Bobby (Leslee), Trevor, Katy (Asa), Ashley, Rosalie, Noah, and great-grandchildren Miles, Kamryn, Zachary, Josie, Carter and Mya. She will be missed more than words can express.

Angeline Kubeczka Kotch - August 14, 1928 - January 10, 2023

Departed: 01/10/2023 (Porter)
Obituary Preview: Obituary Angeline Kubeczka “Angie” Kotch
Heaven has gained another Angel. Angeline Kubeczka “Angie” Kotch left this world to be with our Lord on Tuesday, January 10, 2023. She joins her one true love and husband of seventy-one years, Robert John “Bob” Kotch. Angeline, Angie, Mother, Mom, Granny or Auntie as she was known to all, is survived by all six of her children and their spouses: Robert Michael and wife Gayle of Concan, Jack Bernard of Houston, Denise Ann and husband Gerald Lusk of Willis, David Bryan and wife Lisa of Houston, Kay Eileen and husband Chris Cupelli of Kingwood and Angela Kristen and husband Trey Whitley of Kingwood; fourteen grandchildren; five great grandchildren; nieces, nephews and cousins too numerous to count. She is also survived by her siblings: sisters Bernadine and husband Bernard Syzdek of Magnolia, Patricia Ann and husband Bernice Anderson of Houston; and brother James Kubeczka and wife Carol of Dayton.
Angeline was born at Jeff Davis Hospital in Houston on August 14, 1928. She was raised on the northeast side of Houston where she attended Jeff Davis High School. She married Bob in 1950 and lived in the Houston Heights where she began her family. Soon that garage apartment became too small, and they moved to a house in north Houston where she and Bob continued growing their family, raising five kids there. In 1971 they moved to Forest Cove where they added a sixth child, and Angie lived there until the time of her death at 94 years young.
As a young lady, Angie volunteered with the USO. She was active in her children’s’ schools with the PTA and as a leader for the Girl Scouts of America. She was always a faithful Catholic, planting seeds for her children. She was a member at Holy Name, Assumption, St. Charles Borromeo, St. Mary, and St. Martha. She enjoyed gardening and in her later years, she was active in the Forest Cove Garden Club. Angeline was very social, and she dearly loved gathering with her family -- whether it was one of the thousands of camping trips, weddings or family get-togethers like Christmas, Thanksgiving, Easter, or birthdays, or just when someone came by to visit, she greeted them with open arms. Her family and her time with them was the most important thing. Angie was also known to enjoy an adult beverage on occasion – but as everyone knows, she drank with class as a consummate lady… always with her pinky finger out! She will be dearly missed.
Services will be at Rosewood Cemetery in Porter and St Martha where her grandsons will serve as pallbearers to carry her to be with her husband for eternity.
