Obituary Preview: Patsy Lucille Smith, age 59, Pleasanton, Kansas; passed away peacefully in her home, surrounded by family Sunday, July 31, 2022. She was born on June 15, 1963 in Parsons, Kansas the daughter of George William (Bill) and Mary Jo (Jones) Spurgeon. She attended Pleasanton and Fort Scott schools, graduating from Fort Scott High School. She worked as a logistics coordinator for Wes’ Recycling until 2020. Patsy was married to Dale Smith on May 23, 2009. She enjoyed working in her flower garden, trips to the casino, Reese's Peanut Butter Cups, and riding with Dale on scenic drives. Patsy liked to travel, especially to visit her daughter or to see the ocean. No matter where she went, she never met a stranger; and if you knew Patsy, she doubtless has made you laugh more times than you can count, especially if you probably shouldn’t have been laughing. Above all, family gatherings were her most treasured days. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Tiff Spurgeon. Patsy is survived by her husband, Dale Smith, daughter, Tricia Stogsdill(John), three brothers, Kenneth Spurgeon(Stacie), Rick Spurgeon(Stacey), and Tony Spurgeon; three sisters, Vickie Chaplin(Rod), Terri Staton(Jeff) and Bobbi Williams(Scott); as well as many cherished nieces and nephews.

Fred Ahlemann - January 24, 1938 - July 29, 2022

Obituary Preview: Fred Ahlemann passed away on Friday July 29, 2022 at age 84.  He was born in southern Indiana as the eldest son of Bill and Hilda Ahlemann on January 24, 1938.  His elementary education was at Somerville and his High School was at Mackey, Indiana.  He graduated from Olivet Nazarene University in Bourbonnais, Illinois with a BA degree in Philosophy and Religion.  For several years Fred lived in Illinois and worked for Sears Roebuck & Co in the Kankakee and Champaign stores and in Chicago at the home office.  Fred became a Staff Sgt. Of HQ Company, 33rd Infantry Div. of the Illinois National Guard.  It was in Illinois where his children were born and adopted by him and his first wife, Bettie.  In 1971 they moved to Beatrice, NE staying there two years then moving to Lenexa, Ks., where he began work with Western Auto.  Fred and Karen (Stuffings) Collins were married in 1984 and were long time residents of Overland Park, KS.  Fred’s business experience in the KC metro area included time with Western Auto, Peerless Products, Inc., and more than 20 years in Real Estate, most of which was with Prudential Henry & Burrows.  His passions included golf, crossword puzzles and all kinds of books.  His activities included being a community leader as co-chair of the Cherokee Hills neighborhood group, Precinct Committeeman, President of the Public League Seniors of Kansas golf group and a Past Master of Overland Park Masonic Lodge #436.  He received honors and recognition for his proficiency in Ceremonial Excellence at the lodge. He was a 32nd Degree Mason in the Scottish Rite and a Knight Templar with the York Rite. He was a member of St. Mark’s Evangelical Lutheran Church where he was a Sunday School teacher and a Stephen Minister.  He was preceded in death by his wife Karen (Stuffings) Ahlemann and his son Fredrick Michael.  Surviving him are his daughters  Verna (Collins) McMullin(Chris) and Kathryn Miller(Stan),  several grandchildren and great-grandchildren, a sister Mary (Paul) Thompson and a brother Charles (Crystal) Ahlemann.
Funeral service will be held 11 am Saturday, August 13, 2022 at St. Mark's Lutheran Church, Olathe, Kansas.  Graveside service will be 3 pm Saturday, August 13, 2022 at Littell Cemetery, Pleasanton, Kansas.  Visitation will be held 5 to 7 pm Friday, August 12, 2022 at St. Mark's.  Memorial contributions are suggested to St. Mark's Lutheran Church, Overland Park Masonic Lodge #436, or Menorah Medical Center.  Online condolences can be left at www.schneiderfunerals.com.

Toms, age 69, Pleasanton, Kansas passed away Wednesday, July 27, 2022.  She was born on May 25, 1953 in Paola, Kansas to Kenneth and Fontella Butler Stainbrook.  She graduated from Prairie View High School and later earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education from Pittsburg State University.  Janet was united in marriage to her high school sweetheart, Terry Toms on July 3, 1976.  Her family was her whole world and she loved them well.  She had a special love for each of her grandchildren and she made sure they knew how much she cared.  She spent many hours sitting in bleachers watching sporting events, attending art and music shows, and helping them with projects or homework.  Her grandkids always looked forward to sleepovers because she would spoil them with fun on the farm and plenty of sweets.  Janet had a difficult time sitting still, but she would spend hours crocheting, making blankets for each of her kids and grandkids.  Janet was an educator for 20 years where she taught her students a love for reading.  She taught life lessons from books about empathy, kindness, and resiliency.  She loved each of her students and would have done anything for them. She taught her students the importance of giving back and was instrumental in forming the Angel Tree Program.  Janet is survived by her husband, Terry, two sons, Justin Toms(Theresa), and Jason Toms(Ashley), a daughter, Tara McGregor, two sisters, JoAnn Stainbrook and Kendra Patterson, and nine grandchildren, Aiyana, Jayce, Teyah, Aedin, Azaiah, Jaylin, Jaxson, Jazzmyne, and Juliana.
Funeral service will be 10 am Tuesday, August 2, 2022 at the Mound City First Baptist Church.  Burial will be in the Oak Lawn Cemetery, La Cygne, Kansas.  Visitation will be held 5 to 7 pm Monday, August 1, 2022 at the Schneider Funeral Home and Crematory, Pleasanton Chapel.  Memorial contributions are suggested to the Pleasanton Elementary Library.  Online condolences can be left at www.schneiderfunerals.com.

B 17th Infantry.  Kenneth worked as a farmhand for Junior Payne in Amoret, Missouri, Mac Rodman of Foster, Missouri, Elroy Tourtillott in Rich Hill, Missouri and Bob Laughlin in Foster, Missouri.  Kenneth was united in marriage on August 16, 1961 to Norma Church Phillips.  Kenneth was preceded in death by his wife, Norma, mother, Lillie and grandparents, Sidney and Dessie Clapp Norbury.  Kenneth is survived by a daughter, Kathy Rost, ex son-in-law, Bill Rost, both of Fort Scott, step-daughters, Donna (Robert) Newsome of Moundville, Missouri, Nora (Larry) Smalley of Butler, Missouri, three granddaughters, Katrina (Daniel) Routh of Springfield, Missouri, Ryan Rost (John Hawkins) and Kandice Rost of Fort Scott, Kansas, two grandsons, Daniel Routh and Zane Hawkins, six step grandkids, Steve (Tammy) Newsome of Houston, Texas, Robin (Bob) Benn, Stacy Newsome all of Nevada, Missouri, Ronnie (Kammie) Smalley, Terry (Sheila) Smalley, Meloday (Rusty) Roach all of Butler, Missouri, sixteen step great grandkids and fifteen step great great grandkids.

Robert Edward Shryer - October 30, 1942 - July 13, 2022

Obituary Preview: Robert Edward Shryer 79 of Prescott Kansas, passed peacefully July 13, 2022. Surrounded by loved ones.  Born October 30, 1942  The only child to Vernon E Shryer and Waunita E Miller of Kansas City Kansas.  Robert enlisted into the US Army, May of 1968 until May 1970, and continued enlisted in the Army reserves, until 1974. Early of February 1976 he met Agnes E Willyard in Kansas City, Kansas, later marrying August 25, 1976. After his departure from the Army, Robert became a firefighter for Kansas City Kansas. He would continue this service through to retirement in 1995.  Better known to family and friends as Bob. He spent most of his life surrounded by anything that had to do with a hot rod, or race car, and even took up racing the dirt track himself, against the better judgment of his mom.  If it had tires, or a motor you could guarantee Bob wanted a part of it. Whether he was helping a friend work on it, or getting it ready for a car show or a track to race as his own.  As his love for racing and working on cars followed him through the years, so would his eagerness to teach his children, and grandchildren. Often spending time with any of them tinkering on the next car, in the garage. Family was the only thing to trump his need for speed.  Bob is proceeded in death by his wife, father, mother, a daughter (Bobbie Jean). He is survived by two daughters, Debbie Gibson (Danny Gibson), Vicki Gwinn (Ronnie Gwinn) bonus son, Larry Senter, four granddaughters, Stefanie Shryer, Tiffanie Plummer (bonus grandson, Micheal Plummer), Kaylee Shryer, Veronica Gwinn, two grandsons Logan and Ean Gwinn. Obituary Preview: Patricia Ann (Granny) Hazelbaker-Hammer, age 82 formerly of Amoret, Missouri passed away at her home in Pleasanton, Kansas on Wednesday, July 6, 2022.  She was born the daughter of Marvin and Irene Davis Frye on September 23, 1939 in Marion, Indiana.  She graduated from Prescott High School in 1957.  Patricia was in the Jaycee Jaynes, a member of the Eastern Star and Pleasanton Saddle Club.  She enjoyed doing puzzles and puzzle books, cooking.  Patricia took care of everyone, if you needed something you went to granny's.  Patricia was preceded in death by her parents, long time love and companion of 43 years, Dean Hammer, nephew, Doug Hazelbaker, stepchildren, Ronnie, Ronald adn Deanna.  She is survived by two daughters, Brenda Ratty (Randy) and Cathy Kump, bonus son, Garry a brother, Jim Frye, a step-brother, Kenny Sabine, a step-sister, Marietta Sabine, Norman and Alice Hazelbaker, seven grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, two great great grandchildren, and her deeply loved, Cowboy.  Also leaving behind several nieces and nephews.

Lindell, age 90 of Pleasanton, Kansas passed away Saturday, July 9, 2022.  Doris was born the daughter of Ross and Audrey Hixson Huckaby on June 25, 1932 in Mound City, Kansas.  She graduated from Mound City High School.  She married Charles Alvin Lindell at Mound City, Kansas on May 4, 1952 to this union five children were born.  Over the years, Doris taught Sunday School for 45 years at the Pleasanton Christian Church, grew multiple gardens both vegetable and flower, milked cows, bucket fed calves, raised chickens.  She participated in many community ice cream socials and potlucks. Her kids and grandkids loved her Saturday morning waffles, she was the best cook ever making Italian cream cakes.  She was a seamstress making kids clothes, dresses, tops and shorts, Doris also was a self made beautician, "famous" for permanents given.  Doris loved attending her children's and grandchildren's activities whether it was sports or 4-H.  She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Harold Huckaby, a sister, Carol Johnson and a great grandson, Oliver.  She is survived by her husband of seventy years, Charles Lindell, three daughters, Debra Harkleroad (Marty) and Karen Cobb (David) and Nancy Keeton (Craig), two sons, Dennis Lindell and Brian Lindell (Heather), a sister, Dorothy New (Charles), twelve grandchildren, Sarah and Ashley, Michael, Jennifer, Laura, Amanda, Maria, Christine, Jessica, Craig, Taylor, and Keaton, twelve great grandchildren, Bryce, Joshua, Lane, Cameron, Abby, Henry, Avery, Levi, Riley, Kate, Grace, and Charlie and one great great grandchild, Tobi.

He was beloved by his family, friends and any furry critter that crossed his path, especially the ones that adopted him. His creative nature and attention to detail led him to enjoy many hobbies over the years, including building remote control vehicles, creating an extensive model train set, restoring his deuce & a half military truck, and making improvements to his home and property. James inherited not only his father’s passion for lawn care, but the philosophy that anything worth doing, is worth doing well.  James was preceded in death by his parents.  He is survived by his wife, Kelci, a sister, Julie Adams, and a son, Bobby Baker.

Francis Chandler Furman - February 03, 1955 - June 14, 2022

Obituary Preview: Francis (Frank) Chandler Furman, a long-time resident of Rolla, Missouri, died in Pleasanton, Kansas, on June 14, 2022 after an extended illness.  He was born on February 3, 1955 in Washington D.C. to the late Greene Chandler and Martha (Morrow) Furman of Chevy Chase, Maryland. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Martha Furman Storck. He is survived by two nephews, two nieces, fifteen great nieces and nephews, as well as cousins.  Frank graduated from Walt Whitman High School in Bethesda, Maryland. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in geology from Bradley University in Peoria, Illinois and a Master of Science degree also in geology from Bowling Green State University in Ohio where he was inducted into Sigma Gamma Epsilon, the national honor society for the earth sciences. After working as a geologist for Texaco in Louisiana Frank resumed graduate studies in geology at the University of Tennessee at Knoxville and the University of Missouri-Rolla (now Missouri University of Science and Technology).   Among his friends Frank was known for the kindness and concern he showed to all God’s creatures. His love for animals, neighbors and friends was unconditional.  He was always willing to pitch in and help in every situation.  Frank’s scientific work mainly focused on the geology and geochemistry of shales, carbonate rocks (limestone and dolomite), and lead, zinc, and copper deposits. Among the professional organizations to which Frank belonged are the Geological Society of America, the American Association of Petroleum Geologists, SEPM, the Society of Economic Geologists, and the Missouri Academy of Science. He was a registered geologist in both Tennessee and Missouri. Frank was very adept at field geology and enjoyed the travel associated with his profession. He also enjoyed helping and advising aspiring young geologists. Frank was widely respected in his profession and contributed significantly at national and international meetings and to the scientific literature. For this he won a number of awards for the excellence of his scientific work.  Frank was a member of the Salem Avenue Baptist Church in Rolla and was active in the Sons of American Revolution and the Rolla Friends of the Library.  Frank will be missed by all of his friends and colleagues.
Funeral service will be held 10 am Tuesday, June 21, 2022 at the Rose-Neath Funeral Home, 2500 Southside Dr, Shreveport, LA 71118.  Visitation will be held from 9 am to service time.  Burial will be in the Trinity Cemetery.  Contributions are suggested to Sons of the American Revolution.  Online condolences can be left at www.schneiderfunerals.com.

Simmons Smith.  She was united in marriage to Charles Rowe on December 23, 1950 in the Methodist Church in Mound City, Kansas.  She graduated from Mound City High School as the valedictorian in the Class of 1951.  Marjorie enjoyed sewing, quilting, and camping.  She was a member of the Ooh's and Aah's Camping Club.   She worked at Bendix Corporation. Marjorie assisted her husband in the dairy and farming operation. She worked at Braemore Sewing Factory and used the talent gained there to make many coats for many people. Later, Marjorie and her husband, owned and operated Rowe Trucking, Pleasanton Car Wash, and Linn County Ambulance.  She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Richard Smith, and two sisters, Ruth Rhynerson and Viola Burke.  Marjorie is survived by her husband, Charles, three sons, Walter Rowe(Sandy), Warren Rowe, and Ward Rowe, a daughter Linda Holt(Roger), three brothers, Alfred Smith, Kenneth Smith, and Robert Smith, five grandchildren, Angela, Mackenzie, Jace, Clinton, and Emily, six great grandchildren, Russell, Elijah, Brad, Jaxon, Taylor, and Jake, three step grandchildren, Janese, Tammy, and Ricky, twelve step great grandchildren and three step great great grandchildren. Regina loved her farm, taking care of the goats, ducks, cows and horses.  She loved playing bingo, doing crafts, singing karaoke and dancing.  Regina never knew a stranger and strike up conversations with anyone, sometimes telling stories that would embarrass her children.  She was preceded in death by her parents Roy and Louise, husband William Hamilton, sister Lutricia Felix, sister Paula McClintock (Felix). Regina is survived by her little brother Roy Felix, children Andrea Poag (Micco), Tammy Puckett (Troy), Royan Spencer (Ken), Dale Pendergrass (Tiffany). Regina was blessed with 10 grandchildren and 13 great grand children.

She had a love for quilting and crocheting.  She was preceded by a son Kyle Nelson, Mother Joyce Kasper, Nieces - Tawnya Knight, Tabitha Gardner, Nephews- Ronnie Kasper, Trenton Kasper.  Surviving Family are her Sons- Chad Nelson, Justin Zinn, Grandkids- Alexus Nelson, Ashlynn Nelson, Lincoln Nelson, Peyton Nelson, Noa Zinn, Zander Zinn, Cayson Zinn, Jyaden Nixon,  Siblings-Judy Knight (Frank), Diana Theisan, Kathy Collins (Rick), Barbara Spruytte, Ron Kasper (Amber), Bobby Kasper, Father-Ron Kasper and many nieces and nephews.
A Burial will be held at 11am on June 11,2022 at the Linville Cemetery in La Cygne, KS. Immediately following the burial a Celebration of Life will be held at the schoolhouse, which is located next to the cemetery.
