Cornelia Simpkins - Unknown - September 28, 2023

Departed: 09/28/2023 (Pittsburgh)
Obituary Preview: Cornelia Viola Simpkins, daughter of the late James “Buddy” Simpkins and Beatrice Simpkins, was born in Pittsburgh, PA August 5, 1940. She attended Arsenal High School in Pittsburgh, PA. She was also a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh, with degrees in Nursing and her Masters in Social Work. She loved nursing, and retired from Mayview State Hospital as the Director of Nursing.
Her relationship with the Lord began in her family church of Lily Baptist Church, and she continued to serve and love the Lord, living her life as a testimony to Him. She attended South Hills Baptist Church and HillTop United Methodist Church for many years. For the last 26 years, she has been a faithful member of Lakeview Christian Life Church in Bridgeville, and loved her church family.
Family was a big part of her life, and she was fully devoted to each and every family member, whether aunt, uncle, cousin, child, grandchild or great-grandchild. It was amazing that she not only had a love for each one of them, but she knew each of them intimately – she rejoiced with the successes, she was an encouragement when there were failures, and she encouraged goals. Somehow, she had the ability to be in tune with the specifics of each of her grandchildren’s situations, which gave her the ability to know how to pray for each and every one of them. Her walk with the Lord has been a living testimony for all of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren to witness. She has sowed the seeds of the Lord within the legacy she has left behind.
She enjoyed many hobbies. She was a member of the Miniature Club, where she created miniature dollhouses, and enjoyed creating replicas of rooms. She loved technology, and was proud of her social media following (some have said that she has more followers than her grandchildren). She was an avid reader, and loved reading books on her Kindle. She enjoyed cooking, and was an amazing cook. She enjoyed sharing her recipes with her granddaughters. Her most recent gift to them was making personalized aprons with pictures and family recipes on them.
She leaves behind two children: Tory Simpkins and David (Dionne) Simpkins Sr., 12 grandchildren: Aneika Mitchell, JaShawn Smith, James (Quaila) White, Sr., Chevar Simpkins, Sr., Devon Simpkins, Sr., Janae (D.J.) Simpkins-Thompson, Janeese Simpkins, Julian Simpkins, Samiyah Simpkins, Taylor (Dillon) Webb, David Simpkins, Jr., and Niyah Simpkins, 20 great-grandchildren: Cohen, Nasyr, Jayda, Nason, Norah, Jadyn, Jiana, Kimora, James Jr., Ta’Laysha, Chevar Jr., Cay’son, Sky’Lar, Carter, Cali, Jaymer, Jayden, Devon Jr., Darian Jr., and Noala, in addition to a host of cousins and friends.
She was also preceded in death by her father, James Simpkins, her mother, Beatrice Simpkins, her son, James Sean Simpkins, and her grandson, Darian Simpkins, Sr.
