Evelyn's family, many friends and co-workers knew her to be a very strong caring, giving and out-spoken person. She enjoyed being with people, most especially at family gatherings. Elizabeth is survived by her loving family, including her son, Timothy King (Laura Kunig), of Coraopolis; and daughter, Mary Beth (Tracy) Vargo, of Potomac, Md.; grandchildren, Patrick, Andrew and Kate Vargo; and a sister, Florence (John) Hoogerwerff, of Stroudsburg. Elizabeth worked as a registered nurse at both Pittsburgh and Forbes Regional Hospital and then in private duty care. She enjoyed painting and graced her family and friends with her treasured art work. She was also very passionate about her garden. Just last spring, Elizabeth took a cruise along the Seine River. She also visited Ireland with her husband, Ronald, in 1997, for their 40th wedding anniversary. Obituary Preview: Mary Jane Morgan Zimmerman, 93, of Delmont, died Tuesday, May 20, 2014, in Redstone Highlands in Greensburg, with her daughters at her side. She was born Sept. 4, 1920, in her family home in Delmont, where with the exception of a very brief period of time, she lived until the age of 93. She was the only daughter of Thomas B. Morgan and Eva D. (Thompson) Morgan. Mary was a graduate of Greensburg High School with the Class of 1938. She married George O. Zimmerman May 28, 1948 and celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary prior to his death Dec. 4, 2010. She was an active member of Salem Lutheran Church, where she was the oldest lifelong member. Mary volunteered for the Delmont Salvation Army and Meals on Wheels and served on the Board of Directors for Eastview Union Cemetery. After George's retirement, they felt very fortunate to be able to travel extensively, enjoying many road trips as well as bus trips with the Trinity Trippers and were able to spend a part of many winters in Florida with family. She was an avid reader and was interested in politics. Once she was eligible to vote at the age of 21, she voted in every presidential election for the remainder of her life. She also followed Pirates baseball and Steelers football. She greatly enjoyed attending a game of the 1960 World Series. Mary was a kind and loving woman who dedicated her life to caring for her family. Her greatest desire in life was to be a wife and mother and she excelled at both. She prepared all of the holiday meals for her family until she was into her eighties. She exemplified grace and gratitude and often stated that she felt she had lived a wonderful life. Her intelligence, wit and interest in the world around her will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. In addition to her parents and husband, Mary was preceded in death by her brothers, Thomas, Roy, William and Richard Morgan; her son, George T. Zimmerman; her son-in-law, Phillip Koval; and numerous sisters and brothers-in-law. She is survived by her three daughters, Martha Koval, of Erie, Mary Jane Szczygiel and her husband, Walt, of Greensburg, and Beth Kepple and her husband, Thomas, of Delmont; four grandchildren, Jennifer Lindquist, of Greensburg, Julianne Ulery, of Greensburg, Bryan Koval, of Pittsburgh, and Matthew Koval and his wife, Shanna, of Erie; two great-grandchildren, Zoe Grace and Asher (Blaine) Ulery, of Greensburg; sisters-in-law, Sara Jane Morgan, of Slickville, and Lynda Morgan, of Inverness, Fla.; brother-in-law, William Zimmerman and his wife, Geri, of Murrysville; her longtime caregiver and friend, Vickie Warheit, of Jeannette; and many nieces and nephews. Obituary Preview: Paul A. Virbal, 90, of Delmont, died Monday, March 24, 2014, at UPMC East in Monroeville. He was born Aug. 10, 1923, in Duryea, a of the late Anthony and Pauline Virbal. In addition to his parents, Paul was predeceased, by a sister, Eleanor Buonviri. He is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Jane (Fitzgerald) Virbal; daughter, Judy Ridilla (Randy Pratt), of Greensburg; son, Michael Virbal, of Pittsburgh; granddaughter, Jennifer Helferstay and her husband, Garry, of St. Louis, Mo.; a sister, Flori Santore, of Fairfax, Va.; and also nieces and nephews. Starting at the age of 16, Paul played the clarinet and saxophone with a big band, which helped with his college tuition at Lehigh University graduating in 1950. Paul was honorably discharged Nov. 9, 1945, from the Army, serving during World War II as a radio radar technician receiving a Good Conduct Medal for the European African Middle East Campaign Medal, with three Bronze Stars and the World War II Victory Medal. He was employed by Bettis Atomic Laboratory (Westinghouse) as a nuclear engineer and retired after 36 years. Paul was an avid golfer playing mostly at Cloverleaf and Manor Valley Golf Courses and was a member of the Golf Hall of Fame with two hole-in-one honors. He also loved to attend and support his granddaughter Jennifer's softball games and bowling tournaments. For many years, Paul, accompanied by his wife, Jane, volunteered for the Delmont Meals-on-Wheels Program. Visitation for Paul will be held 9:30 to 10 a.m. Saturday, April 5, 2014, at St. John Baptist de la Salle Catholic Church, Athena Drive, Delmont, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m., with Father Joseph Bonafed as celebrant. Ralph is survived by his beloved wife of 52 years, Audrey E. Glunt Pratt, and their four loving daughters, Robin (Mike) Bradish, Crystal Elliott (Warren), Kimberly (Robert) Cecere and Vickie (Tom) Ross; and his son and best buddy, Eugene Smith; seven grandchildren and a great-granddaughter, who were all his prides and joys; also a sister, Lois Barkefelt (Sam), of Slickville. Ralph was a longtime member of Slickville American Legion, White Valley Amvets, Export Italian Club, APA-American Pool Association and Trinity United Church of Christ in Delmont. He was formerly employed by Murrysville (Franklin Township) Municipality and loved operating heavy equipment. There was never a Sunday morning without his country gospel music playing or a warm sunny afternoon outside listening to his porch music. Ralph took pleasure in sitting around the camper at his camp playing his guitar, steel guitar and banjo. He had a great passion for wood-crafting and through his craftsmanship he created legacies for those he loved. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing pool and watching NASCAR, but he truly loved life and socializing with his family and friends. Because of his love of life, he was involved with life enrichment programs for Key Care Hospice and volunteered with their "Seniors Helping Seniors" campaign. For all those who have had the shared blessing of having him touch your life, we thank you for being part of his. Ralph will be sadly and largely missed.
