Willard Combs - December 07, 1938 - March 11, 2024

Departed: 03/11/2024 (South Lyon)
Obituary Preview: Willard Combs, 85, of Northville, passed away on March 11, 2024. He was born on December 7, 1938 to the late Luther and Beatrice (nee Anderson) Combs in Kentucky.
He was raised to live humbly and work hard, always with gratitude, having sustained through the Great Depression.  He dedicated a career to Ford Motor Company, at the Wixom plant.  This was one of Ford’s largest manufacturing sites, producing many Lincoln parts and vehicles.  He was there the day of the deadly shooting, at the plant in 1996.  He finally knew it was time to retire in 1998 so he could care for his darling Pauline.  Always industrious, he decided to go back to work and took a job at Werner Landscaping company.  They were able to give him a flexible schedule and he put his arborist knowledge to great use.  He had great joy with those working there and made many new friends.
Bill married his sweet-heart Pauline (Towas) on June 7, 1959.  They were married 45 years at the time of her passing, on November 2, 2004, at her age of 63.  They were blessed with a son, Willard A., “Billy” and cherished grandson, Clayton.
Bill was a kind-hearted man, with a quick smile and a beautiful laugh that would light up any room.  He enjoyed spending time with friends and family, typically around a dining room table sharing a meal, stories, and laughter.  He loved spending time with his grandchild, Clayton - who was an incredible caregiver to him over the years.  He appreciated the great outdoors spending time at their cozy cabin in Black Lake, feeding the turkeys, watching the wildlife, deer hunting and spending time snowmobiling in the mountains.
He was known for being a hard worker and dedicated person in all aspects of his life.  He converted his garage into his wood workshop, meticulously maintaining his tools and drills for the carving and wood working that he so loved.  Bill could see an image in a magazine and re-create it in wood.   He took much pride in taking care of his home, always ensuring his yard was in immaculate condition.  He had extensive knowledge of plants and trees, and it showed in the care of his garden, beautiful blooms, including his favorite salmon-colored roses and his beautiful trees.
Willard is survived by his grandson, Clayton Combs.
In addition to his parents, Willard was preceded in death by his brother, Coy Combs; his sister Esther (nee Combs) Snyder; his wife Pauline (nee Towas, 2004) Combs; his son, Willard (“Billy”) Combs (2012).
Donations are suggested to the Disabled American Veterans.

Judy was born on January 25, 1940 in Detroit, MI to Violet and John Davis.  Judy attended Ladywood High School in Livonia and then began nursing school before meeting the love of her life, the late James McCann (2014.) Judy and Jim married on May 28th, 1960 and soon created a big, beautiful family together.
Judy’s greatest joy was her family.  Dearest mother to Michael (Karen) McCann, Mitchell (the late Sally) McCann, Penny (Blaine) Yoder, Susie (Jim) Brumfield, Jill (Steve) Nunez, Bonnie (Jeff) Zabel, Peggy (Ryan) Robinson, and the late William (Juanita) McCann.  Judy is a loving grandmother of 22 and great- grandmother of 5.  Judy is survived by her mother, Violet Barbett, and her brother, Ray, (Connie) Davis and their children David and John.  She is also survived by her sister-in-law Marilyn McCann, and her brother-in-law Jerry (Anita) McCann.  Judy also had some life-long friends that were truly special to her.
Judy had two careers, one as a stay-at-home Mom raising her eight children, and later as a school bus driver. In her younger days, Judy could be found with a pregnant belly playing softball or chasing after her kids playing baseball, football, cheerleading, and dancing.  After most of her children had grown, she went   to work driving a school bus for Southfield and Hartland schools.  As Judy’s grandchildren were growing up, you could always count on her to be the biggest fan at their sports games, proudest Grandma at every graduation and important life event, and the first person to call you and send you a birthday card in the mail.  Judy was a fierce protector of her large family, and she made each person feel truly special for who they are.
Judy loved the challenge of losing money at the casino, scratch off lotto’s, and playing Bingo.  She enjoyed watching birds, playing cards and games on her IPad, and reading books.  Judy especially loved Christmas time and having everyone all together. Judy was a great cook, and many of her recipes will be cherished by her family.  Mostly, Judy just enjoyed spending time with her family.  She was all about the family. The special love only she could make you feel will be profoundly missed, but there is joy knowing she is now back dancing with Jim again.
Arrangements are being handled through the Phillips Funeral Home in South Lyon, MI.  There will be a short service at the cemetery with a celebration of life to follow sometime this summer.
