Nancy Lou Hibbard - February 18, 1936 - April 07, 2024

Obituary Preview: Nancy Lou Hibbard, 88, of Huron (Shinrock) met her Lord on Sunday, April 7, 2024, in the comforts of her home.
She was born February 18, 1936, in Sandusky and was a graduate of Milan High School. She received an LPN certificate through the Sandusky City School system and worked at the Fisher-Titus Medical Center for many years. Nancy was an active member of the Sandusky Community Church of Nazarene. She loved all children and found a calling in ministering the children of all ages. Nancy taught Sunday school until age 85, helped with the church Easter programs for children, and directed many Vacation Bible Schools throughout the years. The International Church of Nazarene presented Nancy with the Distinguished Service Award for her extraordinary, tireless, and self-sacrificing love for children’s ministry. Nancy also shared her love for flowers and gardening by leaving buckets of her gladiolus flowers for all to enjoy.
She is survived by her three children, Bart (Kathryn) Hibbard, Julia (Wesley Norrup) Hibbard, and Tad Hibbard; her grandchildren, Jeffrey Keller, Sarah Keller, Shelly Kidd, Natalie (Andrew) Zucker, Wyatt Jennings Hibbard, and Mackenzie Brett (Jared) Holmer; nine great grandchildren, two brothers, Thomas (Joanne) Baaske and Ronald (Carol) Baaske; numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald D. “Jerry” Hibbard in 1994; her infant son, Brett Hibbard in 1960; daughter-in-law, Dianne (Cheek) Hibbard; parents, Alvin and Thelma (Easton) Baaske; one sister, Carol A. “Kay” Bickley.
Friends may call from 5:00 pm – 8:00 pm on Thursday, April 11, 2024, in the Sandusky Community Church of the Nazarene, 1617 Milan Road, Sandusky, Ohio 44870 and from 9:30 am until the time of Nancy’s funeral service at 10:30 am, Friday, April 12, 2024, at the church. Rev. Keith Martinez and Rev. David Flack will officiate. The burial will be in the Milan Cemetery.

Susan B. Lawyer - November 27, 1939 - March 28, 2024

Obituary Preview: Susan B. Lawyer, 84, recently of Sandusky and formerly of Castalia, passed away Thursday evening, March 28, 2024.
She was born November 27, 1939, in North Ridgeville and was an Ohio University Graduate. Following a brief stint teaching in Cleveland, she and Ray moved to Castalia in 1963 where she taught for 30+ years in the Margaretta School System. Susan was one of the founding members of the Margaretta Fire Department’s Ladies Auxiliary, a founding member of the Castalia branch of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, a longtime member of the Margaretta Band Boosters, and an avid local historian. She loved research and wrote a book on the history of the Castalia area.
After retirement, Ray and Susan wintered in Jet Park, Palmetto, Florida, where she served on the Social Committee for 10 years.  Their love of traveling took them many places, including three weeks in Ireland, and a two-month driving trip through Alaska and the Northwest.  They visited 43 national parks, camping in many.
She is survived by two daughters, Jil (Bruce) Carr of Sandusky, and Nel (Greg) Santa of Alexandria, her granddaughter, Elizabeth Santa, sister Melinda (Richard) Foor of North Ridgeville, Ohio, nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Ray; her parents, Stanley and Hope (Harris) Benner, and sister Carolyn (Donald) Gilder.
The Beta Sigma Phi Sorority will hold their memorial service at 11:00 am Friday, April 5, 2024, in the Pfeil Funeral Home, 617 Columbus Avenue, Sandusky. Immediately following, Reverend Dane Meuschke will officiate Susan’s memorial service.

Kenneth R. "Ken" Grahl - April 20, 1949 - March 09, 2024

He was born April 20, 1949, in Sandusky and was a 1967 graduate of Margaretta High School. Following graduation Ken fostered his talent for drawing, model railroading, crafting and art, earning an Associate Degree in drafting from Stautzenberger College in Maumee, Ohio. He retired from the City of Sandusky’s Sewage Treatment Plant.
Ken was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and AFSCME Local 1519. He had a passion for nature and enjoyed walks through East Harbor and Magee Marsh. He was an avid bird watcher.
He is survived by his siblings, Edward C. Grahl, Jr. and Susanne (Greg) Lemert, both of Sandusky; one niece, Carrie Lemert of Sandusky; and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Ada (Nielsen) Grahl, Sr.; sister-in-law, Rita Grahl; maternal grandparents, Cyrus and Regina Nielsen, Sr.; paternal grandparents, Paul and Minnie Grahl; aunts, uncles, and several cousins.

Obituary Preview: Ernest R. “Ernie” Friend, 86, of Castalia passed away Tuesday, March 5, 2024, in the Firelands Regional Medical Center.
He was born June 2, 1937, in Terra Alta, West Virginia and had lived in Castalia for the last sixty years. Ernie retired from the Ford Motor Company after thirty-five years, and prior to this he had worked at the former Sandusky Packaging Company. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, Sandusky. His hobbies included cars, woodworking, and making beautiful stained glass. Ernie never met a stranger.
He is survived by his wife of sixty-four years, Rhoda J. (Robison) Friend, whom he married on October 1, 1960, in the Calvary Baptist Church; four children, John (Melissa) Friend, Deborah (Kenneth) Cooksey, Michael (Denise) Friend, and Stephen (Melissa) Friend; and honorary fifth child, his granddaughter Jordan; his twelve other grandchildren, Justin, Heather, Stefanie, Brittany, Noah, Conner, Sydney, Benjamin, Elia, Megan, Braxton, and Kennedy; nine great grandchildren, Serena, Alaric, Katarina, Brooklyn, Zoey, David, Addison, Stephen, and Elena; one brother, Larry Lewis; one sister, Lorraine (Susie) Davis; close friend, Fred Hughes; nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by grandparents who raised him, Joseph and Effie Jordan; his parents, Ernest and Leota (Jordan) Friend; two brothers, Joseph Friend and Harry Lewis; and three sisters, Norma Switzer, Shirley Collins, and Marilyn Lewis.

Helen Louise Keegan - May 08, 1926 - February 24, 2024

Obituary Preview: Helen Louise Keegan, 97, formerly of Clyde passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 24, 2024, at her daughter’s home in Sandusky, Ohio.
She was born on May 8, 1926, in Huron, Ohio to the late Dominic “Macioce” Majoy and Ada (Clements) Majoy-Hoilman where she was the oldest and matriarch of the twelve Majoy children.
Helen devoted her life along with her husband Gordon as the owner-operators of Keegan Farms growing and selling fruit and vegetables. They were married in Bowling Green on January 28, 1944, and then began their family of seven children soon after. She enjoyed playing cards, line dancing and trips to Florida and Las Vegas with family.
She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Clyde, the Clyde Moose and Eagles, Sandusky Amvets, and a member with family and neighbors of a couple card clubs playing Pinochle for almost sixty years and was the last surviving member. She also played Pinochle in an all-ladies card club with her local friends. She played a season in the Erie County Dartball League on the Cold Creek team with her granddaughter and friends.
Helen ran the farm with her sons after her husband passed away in February of 1989. She became one of the original members of the Downtown Sandusky Farmers Market which she looked forward to every Saturday morning to pack and sell her produce and made many friends over the years.
Helen is survived by two daughters, Marlene (Larry) Bilhardt of Huron, Cheri (Kurt) Newton of Sandusky; three sons, Terry, Mike, and Joe Keegan, all of Clyde; daughters in law, Bonnie Keegan of Castalia, and DeAnna Keegan of Clyde; nineteen grandchildren, Brian, David (Ashley), Gary (Cindy), Dan (Amy), Jason (Christa), Greg (Jame), Christopher (Mandy), Brandon (Jen), Bradley, Bobby (Miranda), Westley (Alexis), Garrett (Carly), Andrea (Jason), Samantha (Tim), Erika (Mark), Jennifer (Adam), Krystal, Leah (Jay), and Jessica (Richard); thirty two great grandchildren, eight great great grandchildren; two sisters, Patty (Paul) Blodgett and Mavis (Frank) Triana; five brothers, Dan Majoy, Kenny Majoy, Tike (Agnes) Majoy, Joe (Bonnie) Majoy, and Richard (Dana) Majoy; two sisters in law, Betsy and Sally Majoy; numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her husband Gordon C. Keegan; her parents, two sons, Robert Wayne “Bob” and Gordon Ronald “Ronnie” Keegan; three daughters in law, Paulette, Eve, and Diana Keegan; two sisters, Anna Hardy and Thelma Teague; two brothers, Wayne “Turk” and Ray Majoy; two sisters in law, Pat and Gladys Majoy; and stepfather, Uvaughn Hoilman.
Family and friends are invited to honor Helen from 4:00 pm – 8:00 pm on Thursday, February 29, 2024, in the Pfeil Funeral Home, Sandusky Chapel, 617 Columbus Avenue, Sandusky. Jeff David "Rizzo" Bauer - February 01, 1964 - January 20, 2024

Obituary Preview: Jeff David “Rizzo” Bauer, 59, passed away unexpectedly on January 20, 2024. He was born February 1, 1964, in Sandusky and would have been sixty years old this year. Jeff was a 1982 Margaretta High School graduate. Jeff loved the lake and living on Catawba Island and shared his knowledge as a charter fish captain for many years. He had previously worked at the Ford Motor Company and spent the last few years as a delivery driver during the winter. Jeff enjoyed fishing, hunting, and spending time with his children and grandson. He was an avid Margaretta fan and loved college and national football. Jeff had finally met the love of his life Amber and was excited for their wedding and the blending of their families in August. “Rizzo” was popular on the shores of Lake Erie and was loved by all!
He is survived by his son, Jared and daughter-in-law Alysha Bauer; his eldest daughter, Jennifer; his grandson, Zachary; love of his life, Amber Rogers; her son, Ryder Rogers; his siblings, Lisa (Kevin) Dircks, Michael (Laura) Bauer, Beth (David) Miller, and Scott Bauer; eight nieces and nephews; twelve great nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Jordan; his father, David Bauer; grandparents, Linus and Elizabeth Bauer; hunting buddies, Uncle Charles Bauer and cousin, Bill Bauer; and his partner in crime Doug Alexander.

Donald Law Leech - March 02, 1924 - January 16, 2024

Obituary Preview: Donald Law Leech, 99, of Sandusky passed away peacefully on Monday, January 16, 2024, six weeks before his 100th birthday in his home.
He was born on March 2, 1924, in Sandusky and was a 1942 graduate of Sandusky High School. Don was a proud lifetime resident of Sandusky.
He was inducted into the Army on February 5, 1943, and was a member of the 101st infantry. Don received a Purple Heart and two Bronze Stars after being wounded on October 20, 1944, in France during WWII. He returned to Sandusky to marry Beverly Foley in Sts. Peter and Paul parsonage.
Don was a member of Grace Episcopal Church, whereas a young boy he sang in the Boys Choir. He was a founding member of the Briarcrest Swim Club. He enjoyed swimming at the YMCA and spending Sundays at Cedar Point beach. Don was a loyal supporter of the Sandusky High School swim team and took pride in watching his sons and grandchildren compete. He liked target shooting at the Conservation League. For the past several years he attended the Men's Club at the Senior Center and could be found singing at the VFW or American Legion karaoke nights. Most recently he went to pay his dues at the VFW, and they presented him with a Lifetime membership and gift card. He was able to enjoy many years of his life following his retirement from the former Sandusky Foundry.
Don was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend. He enjoyed everyone's company, and anyone would tell you what a true gentleman he was. His memories of early Sandusky were unmatched, and he could tell what each building housed fifty years ago.
He is survived by three sons, Ronald (Patti) Leech of Sandusky, Gary Leech of Brooklyn, Ohio, and Kevin (Cheryl) Leech of Pawleys Island, South Carolina; six grandchildren, Terese Leech, Ryan (Brittney) Leech, Todd Leech, Rebecca (Micheal) Criswell, Justin (Courtney) Leech, and Joey (Gabrielle) DiBiaso; thirteen great grandchildren; nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his wife in 1999, Beverly Leech; his parents, Marvin and Valeska (Walker) Leech; brother and sister-in-law, Lowell and Betty Leech; sister, Faith Leech; and special companion Pat Cebull.

Robert Edward Kreimes - August 21, 1925 - December 05, 2023

Obituary Preview: Robert Edward Kreimes, of Sandusky, OH, passed away peacefully on December 5, 2023 at the age of 98. Born on August 21, 1925 to George and Ella (Dolch) Kreimes, Bob grew up during the great depression with his seven siblings in a small house on Perry Street in Sandusky, Ohio. Bob was kind, generous, and hard-working. He was greatly loved by his family and respected by those who knew him.
At 17 years old, Bob left high school and joined the Navy in July 1943. He served on the battleship USS California as a gunner on a 20 mm anti-aircraft gun. He survived a kamikaze plane attack which killed 44 of his shipmates and then fought in one of the most famous sea battles of WWII, the battle of Leyte Gulf in the Philippines. After the war ended, the ship went on a goodwill tour to play 14 baseball games at exotic locations in Asia and Africa, and Bob “Lefty” Kreimes was one of the pitchers for the USS California Bears team.
Bob went back to high school and graduated from Sandusky High School in 1947. He then went to work for the Sandusky Water Department before becoming a partner in TruWall Construction. In 1970, Bob started his own company, the Bob Kreimes Construction Company with his wife, Toni. He was honored as Boss of the Year by the Jaycees in 1977 and continued to do work into his 90s.
Bob always excelled in sports. After high school, he played for the Jax Bar softball team, once pitching a no-hitter. Bob played half-back on the semi-pro football team, the Maroons, in the early 1950s. He continued to be active in city sports, including volleyball and golf leagues. He took over the YMCA baseball group and formed the Senior High School league that led to the first Sandusky High School team in the Buckeye Conference.
After the war, Bob became involved in civic activities. In 1949, he organized a boxing show, one of two events he held, to raise money for Betty Rinderle efforts for children with developmental disabilities. He volunteered with the Ohio Veterans Home Alzheimer Unit, was a volunteer member of the Ohio Veterans Home Advisory Board, and he received the Veteran Volunteer of the Year Award. In 2002, he led the establishment, fundraising and construction of the World War II Veteran's Memorial located in Sandusky's Veterans Park. In 2006, Governor Taft inducted Bob into the Ohio Veterans Hall of Fame, a select honor given to outstanding Ohio veterans in recognition of their community contributions.
Active in the Sandusky Elks, Bob was a member of the House Committee from 1969-1973 and Chairman of the Sports and Activities Board for many years. He was the main organizer of the Elks Senior Baseball League and worked to create means to finance the program, including starting the annual Marsh Squirrel dinners. In addition to continuing the dinners, over several decades Bob assisted with the Elks Christmas party for exceptional children, the Boy Scout pancake breakfast, and the fishing derby. He was honored as Elk of the Year in 1975, inducted into the Elk Hall of Fame in 2005, and was Volunteer of the Year for 2006/2007. He was also a member of the AMVETS, Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion, Knights of Columbus, Eagles and Sandusky Yacht Club.
Bob married Toni Elfers from Kelley’s Island in April 1950. They, along with their two children, spent many happy years living on Cedar Point Road where Bob was always the neighbor you could count on for help. Later in life, Bob and Toni would spend winters in Port St. Lucie, FL. Bob was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church. Bob and Toni treasured their time spent with many good friends over the years.
Bob is survived by his loving wife of over 73 years, Joan “Toni” Elfers Kreimes; their son, Robert Walter and daughter-in-law, Michelle Everett; their daughter, Kimberly Joan and son-in-law, David Gonzales; three grandchildren and their spouses, Kristin (Elliott) Maurice, Joshua (Mandy) Kreimes, Lea (Tom) Black; three great-grandchildren, Kaylee Kreimes, Ivy Black and James Black; a brother, George “Prune” Kreimes; a sister-in-law, Charlene Kreimes; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; four sisters, Dorothy Martin, Evelyn (Bob) Gouker, Dolores “Lori” (George "Hank") Dunlap and Ruth (George) Rhonehouse; two brothers, Donald (Evelyn) and Wayne Kreimes; and his sister-in-law, Olive Kreimes. Bob also appreciated being part of the large Elfers extended family.
A funeral mass will be held at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church (510 Columbus Ave, Sandusky) on Saturday, December 16 at 10:30 am, followed by a burial with Military Honors at noon at the Ohio Veteran’s Home (3416 Columbus Ave, Sandusky) and a luncheon reception from 12:30-3:00 pm at the Sandusky Elks Club (120 E Adams, Sandusky).

Charles David Jenkins - November 27, 1946 - December 03, 2023

He was born on November 27, 1946, in Port Clinton, and was the son of George Charles Jenkins and Gwendolyn Vilinda Canter. On June 25, 1966, he married Eileen Marie Knupke in St. John’s Lutheran Church.
Charles graduated from Sandusky City School in 1964 and from General Motors Institute in 1970. He retired from New Departure/Delphi after 35 years. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Huron. He was a 4-H advisor and enjoyed all the 4-H activities. Charles also coached youth baseball and was a Boy Scout assistant leader. He loved decorating for Christmas, collecting Fenton glass, working on family history, and family get-togethers.
He is survived by the love of his life, Eileen, his daughters, Julie Ann (Delbert) Kyer and Sara Jane (Eric) Matz, his son, David Allan (Kimberly) Jenkins; five grandchildren, Thomas, Kaitlyn, Lauren, Megan, and Christopher; two great-grandchildren, Tanner and Charlie Eileen; and one sister, Cheryl (Ted) Sahley.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Thomas and Anthony.

John Otto Bossart - September 11, 1932 - December 03, 2023

Obituary Preview: John Otto Bossart, 91, of Sandusky, Ohio, transitioned to his heavenly home, Sunday, December 3, 2023, at his residence, surrounded by the love of his family.
John was born on September 11, 1932, in Racine, Wisconsin.  He graduated from Park High School in Racine in 1950.  He received his Bachelors degree in Engineering from the University of Wisconsin. He was a United States Army veteran. In 1959, John married the love of his life, Nancy Bossart and they moved to Sandusky in 1971 where he began his career at the former Farrell Cheek. He retired from LEWCO in 1995. Following retirement, he began working part-time at Cedar Point and JC Penney because he enjoyed spending time with people in his community. John was an active member of the Sandusky Community Church of the Nazarene.
John was a proud alumnus of the University of Wisconsin and was a member of its Bascom Hill Society. John enjoyed hosting many Badger Bashs throughout the years at his home and church for his friends and family. He always got a kick out of introducing Kringle, his hometown pastry, to his Ohio friends.  John cherished the memories shared with his Senior Men’s Fellowship buddies and Bridge Club friends.
He is survived by his children, Charles (Christine) Bossart, Gretchen Bossart, and John Bossart Jr.; four grandchildren, Christopher (Savannah) Bossart, C.J. (Betsy) Bossart, Kyle (Alex) Homerick, and Kelly (Paul) Priestas; four great grandchildren with one more on the way; nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his wife Nancy, and one brother, Byron Bossart.

Obituary Preview: Carl A. Wilken, 101, of Sandusky passed away peacefully on Friday, October 13, 2023, in the Ohio Veterans Home, Sandusky.
He was born July 30, 1922, in Sandusky to the late Carl and Minnie (Grahl) Wilken. He attended St. Mary’s Catholic Elementary School and was a graduate of Sandusky High School. From the University of Illinois, Carl enlisted in the Navy and was a crew member of the Archer-Fish SS 311 submarine. Carl was a man of many trades and following his service in the Navy he joined the family business at Wilken Sheet Metal Heating and Air Conditioning, which has continued to serve the community for five generations.
He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, a lifelong member of the VFW Post #2529, American Legion Post #83, Sandusky Elks #285, and the AMVETS Post #17. Carl enjoyed life on Lake Erie with boating, fishing, and ice fishing. He also loved Cedar Point and could be found celebrating his 100th and 101st birthday, along with numerous family members, enjoying a Ferris wheel ride. Spending time with his family, especially the traditional Sunday picnics, were Carl’s happiest moments.
He is survived by his six children, Barbara (Paul) Lilje of Huron, Donna (Jim) Riesterer of Sandusky, Paul (Lin) Wilken of Celina, John (Cindy) Wilken of Huron, David “Hermie” (Loretta) Wilken, and Chris (Al) Mielke, both of Sandusky; twenty grandchildren, thirty-three great grandchildren, several great great grandchildren; nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 74 years in 2020, Mary Ellen Wilken; his granddaughter, Ashley Williams; his parents, and his siblings, Geraldine McKitrick, Pierre Wilken, and James Wilken.
A funeral mass will be held at 10:30 am on Friday, October 20, 2023, in the St. Mary's Catholic Church, 429 Central Avenue, Sandusky. Fr. Doug Taylor will officiate. Military honors will be held at 12:00 pm at Woussickett Golf Course, 6311 Mason Road, Sandusky following mass.

Obituary Preview: Ruth C. Nemitz, 98, of Sandusky passed away on October 10, 2023, after a long battle with cancer.
She was born in Sandusky on March 8, 1925, to Edward and Nora Blade. She married the love of her life, Walter Nemitz, in 1967 and spent nearly forty years with him before his passing in 2007.
She worked at the coal docks during World War II and then Philco and Hinde and Dauch before spending many years as a phone operator at Asher Brothers.
Ruth was a wonderful cook. Every Sunday night was a big family dinner that all were welcomed, and which usually ended with one of the more than 6000 pies she made in her life. She took her love of cooking to church where she helped set up Doughnut Sunday at Holy Angels and cooked for the bereavement committee until she was in her nineties. She enjoyed playing cards with family and friends and was an avid reader.
She is survived by her two daughters, Susan (Rick) Lange and Bonnie (Rich) Carruthers; one son, Brian (Laurie) Harple; daughter-in-law, Jane Harple; grandchildren, Jo Anne (Mark) Higbee, Bridget (Greg) Schneider, Todd Lange, Julie (Jeff) Lewis, Liz (Sean) Jones, Karla (Trevor) Warren, Aaron (Ashley) Harple, and LeAnne Harple; great grandchildren, Jessica, Ryan, Ellie, Vivian, Sam, Hayden, Jordan, Shaunna, Briana, Gabby, Quinn, Harper, and Paxton; step-grandchildren, Peter (Anne) Drake and Ben (Ashley) Drake; step great grandchildren, Ethan, Lucas, Mia, and Emma; her best friend, Nancy Sharpe; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Besides her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Ronald Harple; brother, Paul Blade; and sister, Cathleen Manuella.
All who knew her were better for knowing her and she will be missed every day.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the nurses, caregivers and all the staff at Portland Place for the wonderful care they gave our mom. We also valued the Stein Hospice nurses for their caring nature.

He was born December 17, 1933, in Logan, Ohio and had lived most of his life in Sandusky. Jim was a 1951 graduate of Sandusky High School.  He was employed at the former New Departure-Hyatt, Division of General Motors for thirty years, retiring in 1982. Jim was a member of the Word of Truth Christian Church in Bowling Green, Ohio. He enjoyed camping and most of all spending time with his wife and family.
He is survived by his wife of sixty-seven years, Marjorie L. (McDermott) Cremean; five sons, James E. (Cindy) Cremean of Sandusky, Michael S. (Jackie) Cremean of Vermilion, Randy P. Cremean, Steve (Tina Baum) Cremean, and Jon Cremean, all of Sandusky; seventeen grandchildren, one step grandson, thirteen great grandchildren, one step granddaughter, nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Kathern (Starcher) Cremean; one granddaughter in infancy; and one sister, Janet Miller.
At James’ request, his body has been donated to the Ohio State University College of Medicine.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am Saturday, October 14, 2023, in the Word of Truth Christian Church, 1163 Napoleon Road, Bowling Green, Ohio. Pastor Jerry Hunt will officiate.

He worked for multiple companies specializing in assisting people with special needs in finding jobs. He enjoyed spending time with his children in any way he could. He was involved with his son’s wrestling program at Briar Middle School. He enjoyed taking his two daughters fishing, kayaking, camping, and axe throwing, where they participated in an axe-throwing league together. The only thing greater than his love for Cleveland sports and Notre Dame football was the love he had for his family.
He is survived by his three children, Brock Naufel of San Diego, CA, Morgyn Naufel of Sandusky, and Madisyn Naufel of Westlake; four brothers, Mitch (Mary) Naufel of Toledo, Mike (Deidre) Naufel of Fremont, Matt (Nancy) Naufel of Naples, FL., and Marty Naufel of Toledo; nieces, nephews, and other relatives; and his beloved dog Doezer.
He was preceded in death by his parents Edward and Lucille “Lucy” (Kramer) Naufel.
Friends may attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Tuesday, October 10, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. in the St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 429 Central Avenue, Sandusky. Father Monte Hoyles will officiate. A Celebration of Life will be held at the St. Mary’s Gathering Room following Mass.

Obituary Preview: Douglas A. Hogrefe, passed away October 1, 2023, peacefully in his home. He was born in Sandusky, Ohio, December 6, 1933, to the late Marjorie and Dietrich Hogrefe and resided in Bay View, Ohio, since 1961
Doug graduated from Sandusky High School in Sandusky, Ohio and attended the GMI Engineering and Management Institute before he joined Ford Motor Company as a Tool and Die Maker. He is a veteran of the Air Force. While stationed in Zaragoza Spain, he brought back his Spanish bride and love, Carmen, with whom he happily spent the next 63 years. His hobbies and passions were many over the years. More than anything he loved being active with his family and became his children’s coach and biggest cheerleader in their shooting careers and all they pursued in life. He continued to coach smallbore rifle and referee for many years to the benefit of numerous kids across Ohio. Most importantly he wanted to be the best father, husband, son, and brother he could be and a friend to all.
Doug leaves behind his wife Maria Carmen Miguel Hogrefe; son Richard Hogrefe (Meghan) and daughters Ana English (James McArdle) and Kimberly Levine; sister Kathryn Quint; and all his grandchildren (Amber, Nicholas, Joshua, Heather, Julia and Elinor), great grandchildren (Oliver, Theodora, and Charlotte), in-laws, nephews, nieces, cousins and many friends he considered family as well.
He was preceded in death by his sisters Carryl Martin and Beatrice Weinstein, brother Ralph Hogrefe and son-in-law Michael English.

Obituary Preview: On October 25, 2018, Evan Robert Hoffman, our little Evan Bobby came into our lives. On September 30, 2023, he was taken from us too soon. He was daddy’s best friend and momma’s little snuggler. Evan was our showman, he loved to dance and sing, play the Magic Game, and absolutely loved all things Halloween. He always wanted to play with his big sister Mara or make up silly games with Grandma Siri. His favorite places to visit were Grandpa Bob’s campground and Castaway Bay. You could always catch him riding his bike or his blue Jeep just like Uncle Jared’s. Evan was a preschool student at Big Hearts Little Hands Daycare where he wanted to play the villain – but always ended up being our Superhero instead.
Evan is survived by his father Cory, mother Megan, sister Mara, Grandpa Bob, Grandma Siri, Grandma Becki, Grandma Lori, and numerous Aunts, Uncles, Cousins, and friends. He is preceded in death by Grandpa David.

She was born October 21, 1936, on Kelleys Island to Oliver and Jeanne (Reinheimer) Schlesselman. Carol was a graduate of Kelleys Island (Estes) School, class of 1954. She worked for the U.S. Navy Department in Washington, D.C., the former Sandusky Cabinets, and Great Wolf Lodge in Sandusky. She was a member and dedicated organist for the former Columbus Avenue United Methodist Church, now known as Christ Community Church and was formerly a member and organist of Kelleys Island Zion United Methodist Church.  Carol was a respected organist for seventy years, substituting for many local churches and accompanying the Kelleys Island singers for many years. She was also a member of the Kelleys Island Historical Society, and the Kelleys Island Landowners Association.
She is survived by three sons, Paul (Jan) Schnittker of Berlin Heights, Dale (Lana) Schnittker of Sandusky, and Ron (Barbara) Schnittker of Kelleys Island; ten grandchildren, Ryan (Erin) Schnittker, Michael (Rebecca) Schnittker, Brandon (Nicole) Schnittker, Kelly (Thomas) Sims, Nicholas (Lindsay) Schnittker, Tara (Derek) Tieche, Tracy (Seth) Link, Seth Schnittker, Olivia Schnittker, and Octavia Schnittker, ; nineteen great grandchildren; brother-in-law, Harry Enlow of Vermilion; sister-in-law, Sonya Schlesselman of Port St. Lucia, FL; several cousins, nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 2015, Robert Schnittker, whom she married on September 24, 1955, at the Kelleys Island Zion United Methodist Church; her parents, siblings, Miriam (William) Haynes, Ardith Enlow, and O. Henry Schlesselman; maternal grandparents, Frank and Ida Reinheimer; paternal grandparents, Henry and Bertha Schlesselman; several cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Walter H. Bauman - January 18, 1931 - August 05, 2023

Obituary Preview: Walter H. Bauman, 92, of Sandusky passed away peacefully Saturday, August 5, 2023, in the Stein Hospice Care Center, Sandusky.
He was born on January 18, 1931, in Norwalk, Ohio and was a graduate of Norwalk High School. He was a graduate of Miami University where he earned both his bachelor's and master’s degree. Walter retired after thirty years of teaching at Jackson Junior High. He was a hard worker and painted homes when he wasn’t teaching. Following retirement, he spent ten years working for the former Stambaugh’s. Walter was kind, generous, and genuinely cared about people. He spent much of free time serving his community by doing kind gestures such as visiting nursing home residents, starting Sunday school classes for developmentally challenged children, taking those with no rides wherever they needed to go, just to name a few. When he wasn’t serving others, he found tranquility fishing on the pier, woodworking, painting pictures, and ceramics.
He was a member of the Gideon organization, a 40-year member of Perseverance Lodge No. 329, F. & A.M., serving as Master in 2012, Sandusky City Chapter No. 72 R.A.M., Sandusky City Council No. 26 R. & S.M., Erie Commandery No. 23 K.T., and the Singara Grotto. Walter was a lifelong member of the former St. Paul Lutheran Church and just recently became a member of Faith Church.
He is survived by his four children, Michael (Cherie) Bauman, Jennifer (Jack) Bauman, Mary Bauman, all of Sandusky, and Heidi (Joe) Fliehman of Indiana; ten grandchildren, eighteen great grandchildren, and two great great grandchildren; and one niece, Mary Thole.
He was preceded in death by his wife Nancy Bauman in 2010; one son, John Bauman in 2010; parents, Hans and Friederike (Mayer) Bauman; and siblings, Irwin Bauman, George Bauman, and Johanna Meyer.

He was born November 30, 1948, in Sandusky and was a 1968 graduate of Sandusky High School. Conrad served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam Era. He was employed at the Ohio Veterans Home as a STNA prior to his retirement.
He enjoyed fishing, bird watching, feeding his squirrels, football and has been a long time Cleveland Browns fan.
He is survived by his wife, Joanie A. (Harris) Rowe and their son Joel Rowe of Sandusky; Conrad’s other children from a previous marriage, Tara (Matt) Kluding of Milan and Bret (Deanna Fox) Rowe of Huron; six grandchildren, two great grandchildren; mother, Jane Jaggers of Sandusky; sister-in-law, Patricia Rowe of Sandusky; nephew, Brian Rowe of Sandusky; niece, Brandy Rowe of Sandusky; and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his father, Kenneth Rowe; brother, Barry Rowe; sister, Sherry Jefferson; brother, Delbert Rowe; nephews, Kenny Rowe and Gordon Rowe.
A celebration of life will be held later.

She was born September 11, 1937, in Castalia to the late Alton Sengstock, Sr. and Lena (Young) Sengstock.
Dorothy graduated from Margaretta High School in 1955. She enjoyed quilting and spending time with her family.
She is survived by her daughter Kathy (David) Bohn of Castalia, three sons, James (Marilou) Neill of Castalia, Jeff Neill of Castalia, and Jerry (Lorna) Neill of Clyde; eleven grandchildren; twenty-eight great grandchildren; one sister Alice (Donald) Kuns of Castalia; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
In addition to her parents, Dorothy was preceded in death by her husbands, Lewis H. Neill of Castalia, and Ronald Shirey of Toledo; two sisters, Margaret Lieb and Joyce Cheek both of Sandusky; two brothers, Charles Galloway, Jr. of Sandusky, and Alton “Bud” Sengstock, Jr. of Castalia.
Private family services and cremation burial will be held in Castalia Cemetery.
Those wishing to contribute to Dorothy’s memory may do so to Trinity Lutheran Church, 502 Bardshar Road, Sandusky, Ohio 44870 or to the Margaretta Township Fire Department, 114 Main Street, Castalia, Ohio 44824.

Obituary Preview: Thomas D. “Cal” McAllister, 75, of Sandusky passed away unexpectedly Thursday, May 18, 2023, at his residence.
He was born February 16, 1948, in Sandusky, Ohio.  He graduated from Perkins High School in 1966 and then attended Northwood Institute in Midland, Michigan.  Tom was most recently employed as a baker at The Donut House and Smith’s Bakery, but he also worked at the Houston Post and resorts in New England early in his life.
He was proud of his American Indian heritage and was a member of the Pawnee Nation of Oklahoma.  Tom’s hobbies included word puzzles and reading westerns and books about aviation and military history.  He was an avid fan of NASCAR, sprint car, supermodified and Indycar racing. He traveled the country to watch races; worked on the pit crew of a sprint car team; and for a time worked at the Sandusky Speedway.
He is survived by his brother, Charles (Diana) McAllister, Jr., Cape Coral, FL, and sister, Margaret “Peggy” (Howard) Reinbolt, Sandusky, OH; three nieces, Carrie (Charles) Porter, Castalia, OH, Lorrie McAllister, Phoenix, AZ, and Carla McAllister, Cape Coral, FL; three grand nephews and nieces, Andrew Smith, Sandusky, OH, Brooks McAllister, Kansas City, MO, and Harriet McAllister, Phoenix, AZ.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Mary (Schaeffer) McAllister, Sr.
At the request of the deceased, cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held for Tom on Wednesday, May 31, 2023, at 11:00 AM, at St. John’s United Church of Christ, 2712 Mason Road, Oxford Township, Milan. All are welcome.  Friends and family may call prior to the memorial service at 10:00 AM at the Church.  Rev. Wendy Schindler-Chasney will officiate. Burial will be in St. John’s Cemetery.

Marion was very artistic and enjoyed quilting, painting, and cherished living in Florida near the beach where she collected many seashells for her creative projects. Marion was preceded in passing by her first husband Oliver P. Matter, second husband Norbert E. Boose, and her daughter Cathy Aumend. She leaves behind to cherish her many memories children David Matter (Rhonda) of North Fort Myers, FL, James Matter (Mimi) also of North Fort Myers, FL, Edward Boose of Huron, OH, and Judy Hupp (Fred) of Monroeville, OH; and son in law Richard. Grandchildren Gregory (Chandra), Laura (Tim), Dana, Jessica (Bill), Kelly (Pat) and Christy; 16 great grandchildren; and 26 great great grandchildren.
