Richard "Dick" L Tyrrell - January 23, 1945 - May 14, 2024

Obituary Preview: A celebration of life will be held on Thursday, June 20, 2024, at 11:00 AM at the Peterson-Grimsmo Funeral Home for Richard “Dick” Tyrrell, age 79, of Big Lake, MN who passed away on Tuesday, May 14, 2024, at the Wellstead of Rogers surrounded by his family. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Luncheon to follow service.
Dick was born on January 23, 1945, in Minneapolis, MN to Thomas and Mabel (Nelson) Tyrrell. He married the love of his life Kay (Carlson) Tyrrell on September 20, 1969, at Bethel Lutheran Church in Minneapolis. They went on to have a beautiful family with three children. He served his country from 1965-1969 in the air force; he fought in the Vietnam War. He was an outdoorsman, he enjoyed duck hunting, fishing, cabin life, golfing, camping, and target shooting. Dick was an avid collector of many things such as piggy banks, antiques, and duck decoys. He was a member and served on the board of the Minnesota Decoy Collector’s Association for over 30 years. Dick volunteered for youth group retreats and was an adult leader for the Boy Scouts. Dick will be remembered for his patient, kind, generous, humorous, and dependable nature. He was strong-willed and witty but always loving and caring. He was a bright light in so many lives and he will be missed dearly.
Dick is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Kay Tyrrell; children, Michael (Erin) Tyrrell, Dana (Kurt) Stegora, Christina (Ryan) Crocker; grandchildren, Henry Tyrrell, Hana Tyrrell, Kaylee Stegora, Jayden Stegora, Rainna Crocker, and Wyatt Crocker, and many friends and family.
He is preceded in death by his parents and sister Margie Hanson.

Joan Carol Flemming - September 27, 1947 - May 13, 2024

Obituary Preview: Age 76 of Big Lake Passed away peacefully, surrounded by her children on Monday, May 13, 2024 after a short fight with cancer. Joan was preceded in death by her husband of 32 years, Garrett Flemming; parents Angeline (Kozik) and George Bloomfield; and twin brother John. Surviving are her children Deanna Springsteen, Barbara Flemming (Donald Ponsford) and Lonnie Flemming; grandchildren Korey Flemming, and Valerie Flemming; sister Sandra Bloomfield; 1 niece; and the extended Flicek family. Joan was a loving mother and fabulous grandmother. She had a kind and gentle soul with an unwavering devotion to her family. Even while battling cancer her feisty, fun loving humor was shared with family and her care team. She always kept busy and was instrumental in serving as the neighborhood “Mom” at the Big Lake trailer park. The children would lovingly pick her flowers from her own garden to give her. She was the “lifeguard” at the pool there, even though she couldn’t swim! Often keeping a watchful eye on other children as well as her own. Years later, kids from the neighborhood would come back to visit her. She took great pride in the upkeep and appearance of the trailer park office and its grounds. She made sure flowers were planted, weeded, and well kept. Reading and doing Word Finds were a great pleasure to her. Per her request, there will be no services. Bonnie Irene Shierts - January 06, 1934 - May 07, 2024

Obituary Preview: Bonnie Irene Shierts, age 90, passed away on Tuesday, May 7, 2024 at Suite Living Senior Care, Ramsey, Minnesota. Bonnie was born on January 6, 1934 in Hasty, Minnesota to Charles and Ethel (Mallo) Dahlgren.
She was united in marriage to Kenneth Shierts on February 3, 1951. They lived in Hasty, Minnesota until moving to Otsego in 1960 where they built a new house and she continued to live until August 2022, at which time she entered the Suite Living Care Facility.
Bonnie was a homemaker who loved to bake, garden and can from her garden. She was a beautiful seamstress who sewed for the whole family. Bonnie also had a green thumb and would grow the most beautiful flowers and vegetables for her family and friends in her greenhouse. She also worked for the Cornelius Company and Menards for several years.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Ethel; her husband, Kenneth; her son, Kevin; and her grandson, Ryan.
Bonnie is survived by her daughter, Gayle (Ron) Hubbard of Becker; son, Randy (Jayne) Shierts of Zimmerman; daughter-in-law, Lynn Shierts of Clear Lake; nine grandchildren, Angela (Jeff) Welle, Chad Claassen (Mandy), Dayna Claassen, Brian Shierts (Katie), Keith (Erin) Shierts, Kelly Shierts, Jared (Trish) Shierts, Jason (Lyndsey) Shierts, Jacob Shierts; great-grandchildren, Luke, Landon, Lane, Vayda, Brooklyn, Lily, Sloane, Ashton, Livia, Owen, Otto, Will, Tanner, Logan, Finnley, Oliver, Emmett and Henry; and sister, Betty (Harlan) Rask.

Dayna Lea Weber - October 13, 1966 - May 04, 2024

Obituary Preview: Age 57 of Monticello, was reunited in heaven with her dad Merlin Brant; and brothers Bradley, and Randy Brant on Saturday, May 4, 2024. Surviving are her mother Bonnie (Neil) Brant; children Kristina Weber (Ryan Depew), and Dustin (Shayna) Weber; grandchildren Aiden, Becca, and Abigail; siblings Roxane, and Darin; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Dayna was a gifted caregiver. Over the years, she dutifully looked after many residents and others entrusted to her care. Her biggest joy was helping others and just being around her family. She had a strong faith and found comfort in reading her daily  “Jesus Calling” scriptures. In the last several years, Dayna was able to travel, and take cruises to the Caribbean, Alaska, and the Panama Canal. Being an outdoors lover, she could be found taking in the sights and sounds of a nature walk, boating on a serene lake, or deer hunting on a frosty fall morning. Dayna also took pleasure in planting and growing her own vegetable and flower gardens.
Dayna will be missed for her smile, sense of humor, unforgettable laugh, and her very presence among us daily. She was loved and will be dearly missed.
Visitation will be held from 5-7PM on Thursday, May 9, 2024 with a prayer service at 7PM at FAITH LUTHERAN CHURCH, 12449 Clementa Avenue, Silver Creek Township (rural Monticello). Alec Gray - July 28, 1931 - April 27, 2024

Obituary Preview: It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Alec Gray, a beloved man who warmed countless hearts throughout the world. Alec passed away peacefully on April 27th, 2024, at the age of 92, in the presence of his loving wife, Mary. Born in Washington, D.C., Alec attended school in Virginia, then graduated from Mercersburg. Academy in 1950. He went on to Dartmouth College, where he graduated in 1954 with a degree in history. After college, he served in the U.S. Army, conducting counter-intelligence work in Japan, followed by duty in the Army Reserve until 1962. When he returned to the U.S. in 1957, he started his business career in New York, where he joined the sales department for Pan American Airlines. He traveled the world, showing travel agents and corporate clients the spectacular destinations served by the company. Pan Am took him to Minneapolis, where he met and married his first wife, Katherine Berghuis, in 1960. In 1966, they welcomed the birth of their son, Sandy, and in 1969, the birth of their daughter, Beth. They relocated with their young family to the Chicago area in 1972, where he continued to lead the regional Pan Am sales team, remaining dedicated for 34 years to the nation’s flagship airline until its demise in 1991. Alec continued his career in travel industry sales, eventually retiring from the Chicago Radisson Hotel in 1996. After the death of his first wife, Alec married Mary Kochmann in 1996. They retired to Ottertail Lake and Oviedo, Florida. Eventually, they split their time between the lake and other Minnesota homes. Alec was a very devoted father and grandad, always supporting and participating in the various activities and sports pursued by his children and grandchildren over the past several decades. He remained a diehard Chicago Cubs fan until the end, played tennis well into his 80s, and was always welcoming to everyone around him with his warm smile and happy demeanor. Christianity was core to Alec’s beliefs and how he conducted his life. He served various leadership positions for two decades at St. Gregory’s Episcopal Church in Deerfield, Illinois, was a long-time member at St. Luke's Lutheran Church in Oviedo, Florida, and St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Perham, Minnesota. Later in life, studying scripture, praying, and keeping Christian principles at the forefront of his mind served him well as it would be difficult to find a person with anything but good things to say about Alec Gray. Eventually, Alzheimer’s disease eroded Alec’s mind and body and he joined the Lord, peacefully in his sleep. Although he has left this world, he has found peace in Heaven now. Alec was preceded in death by his parents, Welles and Arbutus, and his first wife Kathy. Succeeding him are his wife Mary, son Sandy (Cameron), daughter Beth (Vanessa), stepsons Mike (Tracy), Chris (Melanie), Rob, and Chuck, eight grandchildren, and a great-grandson. He was deeply loved and will be dearly missed by his devoted family, as well as countless friends at the lake, on the tennis courts, and innumerable other places around the world. A visitation celebrating Alec's life will be held on June 15th, 2024, at Peterson-Grimsmo Funeral Chapel, 250 Broadway Street East, Monticello, Minnesota, from 2-4 pm.

Arlene Hazel Voecks - July 14, 1936 - April 18, 2024

Obituary Preview: Arlene Hazel Voecks, age 87 of Monticello, MN, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Thursday, April 18, 2024. She was born in Blue Earth County on July 14, 1936 to Orville and Florence (Kermeen) Brooks.
Arlene attended Mankato State University, graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in Home Economics Education. She was a dedicated home economics teacher at Albert Lea High School for 5 years, and food product scientist with Cargill for 25 years until her retirement. In 1997 while at Cargill, Arlene invented the egg patty that was used by McDonald’s egg McMuffin. She had two US patents because of this project.
Arlene and Robert “Bob” Voecks met at a dance at the Mankato Ballroom. They were united in marriage on July 17, 1959 in Blue Earth, MN and were blessed with two children, Victoria and William. The two shared nearly 59 years of marriage filled with love and cherished memories.
Arlene was a faithful member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Monticello, where she and Bob served. She enjoyed sewing and cooking. Above all else, Arlene cherished spending quality time with her family, especially her granddaughters. She was their biggest supporter, never missing an opportunity to attend their sporting events and music performances. Arlene was known for her unwavering work ethic and compassionate nature. She was always ready to lend a helping hand to everyone.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Robert “Bob” Voecks; parents, Orville and Florence Brooks; and brothers, Lawrence and John Brooks.
Arlene is survived by her daughter, Victoria O’Gara; son, William Voecks; granddaughters, Vanessa and Corissa O’Gara; brothers, Lester (Jane), George, James (Sherry) and Harold Brooks; and many other family and friends.

Dorothy Jean Hultberg - January 28, 1943 - April 11, 2024

Obituary Preview: Dorothy Jean Hultberg joined her Lord and Savior in Heaven on April 11, 2024 at the St. Cloud Hospital with her family by her side.
Dorothy Jorgensen was born on January 28, 1943 to Frederick and Gertrude Jorgensen in Mayville, North Dakota. Due to unfortunate family issues, she eventually ended up with a wonderful foster family, the Carlsons in Staples, Minnesota. She graduated from Staples High School in 1961. After graduation, she attended Wadena Area Vocational Technical Institute and completed her Cosmetology course.
Dorothy married Stanley Hultberg on August 24, 1963 in Staples. To this union, four sons were born: Scott, Mark, Jeremy and Adam. They settled on the Hultberg home farm near Lake Ida, West of Monticello. She worked various local jobs until she started full time for Prudential Insurance in 1981.  During her 23 years at Prudential, she worked in Underwriting and later became an Operations Settlement Specialist. In 1984 they sold the farm and moved to their current location near Enfield.
Dorothy was involved in many activities at the Tri County Alliance Church. Dorothy loved crafting. She crocheted, cross stitched, and created wonderful scrapbooks for her grandchildren. Dorothy was a meticulous painter and wallpaper hanger. She loved to work on her puzzles and no evening was complete without watching Wheel of Fortune! Dorothy attended many of her grandchildren’s sports and music performances.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; Foster parents, Pete and Helen Carlson, Foster Sister Audrey and her husband, Loren Mosman, her brother Richard, sister Carol and brother Wally.
She is survived by her husband, Stan; her children: Scott (Stacey) of Monticello, Mark (Kristi) of Elk River, Jeremy (Maureen) of Sebeka and Adam (Amy) of New York Mills; 10 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren, sister-in-law Lois Hultberg, Douglas and Dennis Mosman, nieces and nephews, and many good friends.
Visitation will be on Monday, April 15 from 4-8 p.m. at Peterson-Grimsmo Funeral Chapel. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, April 16 with additional visitation one hour prior to the service at the Tri County Alliance Church in Clearwater. Lunch will follow the service with interment in the Becker Cemetery.

Elizabeth "Liz" Rose Mathison - June 10, 1938 - April 10, 2024

Obituary Preview: Elizabeth “Liz” Rose Mathison passed away peacefully on April 10, 2024,  in Monticello, MN. Born to Ida Olga (Myrom) and Amund J. Torgelson on June 10,1938 in Big Bend Township – rural Milan, MN, Liz’s life was a tapestry of love, family, and hospitality.
Liz’s journey began in Milan, where she grew up with her sister, Marian, and parents in rural Milan. She was baptized and confirmed in Big Bend Lutheran Church. Her childhood was filled with the simple joys of playing with her dolls, her dog Fido, piano, schoolwork and helping her parents around the farm. She was active in Girl Scouts and Luther League and attended the National Lutheran Youth Gathering in San Francisco, CA in 1955. After graduation from Milan High School in 1956, she pursued a Bachelor of Science in Secondary Education with a focus on Social Studies and Business Education at Moorhead State University (now MSUM) in Moorhead, MN. It was while at college and spending the weekend with her roommate, Bonnie in Morris, MN that her heart found its counterpart in Delroy “Pete” Mathison at a town dance. She graduated college on June 3, 1960, and Liz and Pete were married on July 30, 1960, in Big Bend Lutheran Church. Their marriage of 62 years was a testament to enduring love. Together, they raised two children: Karen and Larry. She was so proud of them.
‍Liz beginning teaching in 1960 at the West Central School of Agriculture (WCSA) in Morris, MN and then served as the first secretary for Rodney Briggs, Superintendent of the University of Minnesota, Morris as WCSA phased out. She was immensely proud to have worked at the UM- Morris until 1969 when the family moved to Garrison, ND to support Delroy’s career advancement.  It was during this time that Liz spent as a full-time homemaker and was active in the community. Four years later, they would move to Minot, ND followed by a short stint in Shoreview, MN before returning to Minot in 1975 as Delroy’s career continued to expand.
From 1978 to 1987, Liz was the parish secretary for Christ Lutheran Church in Minot, ND. She was active in the criterion bible study club, and church circle. Together with Pete they enjoyed playing bridge regularly with dear friends. In 1987, Liz received her certification as a Parish Secretary by the American Lutheran Church. This milestone included a blessing event at Christ Lutheran Church in Minot, ND. It was also during this time that Liz, together with her husband harvested many cucumbers for pickling, berries, and other vegetables from their always plentiful garden. While raising Karen and Larry, they enjoyed many trips fishing on Lake Sakakawea, camping into Canada, visiting extended family back in Minnesota.  Liz and family also took camping trips to Montana, South Dakota, and Colorado along with an epic trip over Christmas and New Year’s to Montana, Utah , Colorado and California to visit family, see the sights and be back into time for school to resume. Liz was active in raising her children in the Lutheran faith, ensuring their homework was complete and encouraged them in music, sports, and theatre. She rarely missed a school performance and loved having Karen and Larry’s friends over anytime.
In fall of 1987, Liz and Pete would move to Detroit Lakes, MN residing on Big Floyd Lake for more than 30 years. Liz was the secretary and bookkeeper at Anglo-American Oil Company in Detroit Lakes, MN. She was active at First Lutheran Church serving on the council and enjoyed being active in circle and volunteering in the church office. Liz was also active as an office volunteer with Hospice of the Red River Valley and the Sons of Norway Chapter #495 as a local and zone officer.
In the fall of 2021, they would move together to Monticello, MN to be closer to their son. Whenever she talked with her family she always wanted to know that everyone was okay, asking by name of each one she held closest.
Throughout their life together, Liz and Pete enjoyed entertaining family and friends in their home. She was famous for her lefse, flatbread, sandbakkels and brownies all made with love. Together they made multiple trips to Norway to connect with extended family. They also enjoyed trips to Hawaii, the Caribbean, Mexico, Florida, Arizona, Texas and Alaska. Together with Karen and Larry they enjoyed a fun holiday trip to NYC and two trips to Chicago. When her grandchildren, Peter and Emma, were born, she embraced her role as Grandma proudly.  She was there in Rochester, MN, and Perrysburg, OH for baptisms, confirmations and many fun days together exploring Lake Erie, multiple school performances, and graduations. Together with Grandpa, she loved having Peter and Emma stay with them at the lake, teaching them to fish and play cards! She always made sure there were brownies and made her tasty BBQ and her homemade buns! Her heart expanded even further when Larry met, and married Veronica Westerman and she became grandma two more times to Izaac and Owen!
Liz is predeceased by her devoted husband, Delroy, her parents, an infant brother, Charles born still in 1934, sister Marian along with infant grandson, Joshua David.
Liz’s memory is honored by her children, Karen of Moorhead, MN, and Larry (Veronica) of St. Michael, MN, and her grandchildren, Peter and Emma and step grandchildren, Owen, and Izaac. Her brother-in- law, Duane Hanson of Willmar, MN along with many cousins, nieces and nephews and a community of friends.
Her family is deeply grateful for the care and love of all the staff of both Willows Landing and Brighton Hospice during her final days in her home. Services to celebrate Liz’s life will be held on Wednesday, April 24, 2024, at 11:30am with visitation starting at 10:30am at Trinity Lutheran Church in Alberta, MN. Burial will be at Frog Lake Cemetery immediately with lunch to follow in the fellowship hall. Black was never her thing, so please wear color!

Bruce C. McNickle - December 22, 1945 - April 05, 2024

Obituary Preview: Bruce McNickle was born in Lexington, Nebraska on December 22, 1945, and he died on April 5, 2024 in Monticello, Minnesota after a two-month battle with pancreatic cancer. His father Clark McNickle was a farmer, and his mother Alma McNickle was a high school teacher of English and Art. Bruce went to the University of Nebraska and received Bachelor’s, Master’s and Doctorate degrees in Psychology. During those years, he met his wife Ann, served his country as an Officer in the Vietnam War, and had two children, Christie and Jeff.
Bruce’s passions in life were helping others and exploring the world. These manifested in beautiful ways throughout his 78 years. As a psychologist, he often worked with severely schizophrenic patients. He was committed to giving his patients a sense of purpose and bringing joy through small acts of kindness. While Bruce worked as a psychologist, he, Ann and their children lived in Nebraska, Colorado, Missouri and Minnesota, enriching the family with exposure to unique places and people in America. He enjoyed studying cultures from around the world, and his children grew up reading and watching National Geographic with him. Bruce started collecting historical stamps in the 1990s to learn about different countries and cultures. He spent the next 30 years lovingly curating a stamp collection for his children and grandchildren.
After retirement, Bruce wanted to continue contributing to the wellbeing of his community and took on leadership roles as the President of an HOA and President of the Church Council at Trinity Lutheran Church in Monticello. He found immense joy in his work with the Church congregation, and imbued his leadership tasks with humility, compassion, and kindness. He also became involved in social justice and climate change initiatives, because he wanted to leave the world a better place for his granddaughters and younger generations. As an avid opera aficionado, Bruce’s lifelong dream was to visit Vienna, Austria. In 2019 at age 74, he joyfully embarked on a European tour of Hungary, Slovakia, Austria and Germany.
Bruce will be remembered as an intelligent, thoughtful, kind person who was quick to laugh and even quicker to lend a hand. He is survived by his wife, Ann McNickle, two children, Christie (Asha Wagner) McNickle (California), Jeff (Amber) McNickle (Minnesota), two young granddaughters, Josie and Grace, and two sisters, Edythe McNickle (Florida), Linda McNickle (New Mexico). Visitation will be Wednesday, April 10, 2024, from 5:00 – 8:00 PM at Peterson-Grimsmo Chapel, 250 E Broadway, Monticello.  Funeral service will be on Thursday, Aprill 11, 2024 at 11:00 AM at Peterson-Grimsmo Chapel, with visitation starting at 10:00 AM.  Pastor Teresa Nelson will be officiating.  Burial will be in the Swedish Mission Cemetery in Buffalo, MN.
Janice Culp was born on July 16, 1952, in Princeton, MN to Howard and Shirley (Lind) Berthiaume.  She grew up in Duelm and graduated from Becker High School.  She worked at Monticello-Big Lake Nursing Home in the laundry department.  She worked at Lange Board & Rooming Home in Clear Lake, MN.
She was married to Gerald Culp for over 43 years.  They lived in the Becker area until moving to Heimdal, ND in 2013.  Her hobbies were cross stitching, painting, word finds & number finds, playing cards, helping her sister in the garden, canning, and doing little chores on her sister’s farm.  She enjoyed watching Heartland, watching The Bachelor or The Bachelorette, Dancing with the Stars and any Game Shows.
She is survived by her son, David, of Heimdal, ND; daughter, Candice (Bryan) Nelson, of Milaca, MN; Four grandchildren, Zachary, Luke, Trevor, and Bryanna; great-grandchildren, Kaven and Amara; siblings, Joe (LuAnn) Berthiaume, of Becker, MN, Jerome (Shelia) Berthiaume, of Big Lake, MN, Julian (Debbie) Berthiaume, of Becker, MN, Jeff (Sally) Berthiaume , of Becker MN, and Jennifer (Rick) Baumgartner, of Becker, MN; sister-in-law, Patricia Berthiaume; brothers-in-law, Eugene Lambert and Tim Johnson; mother-in-law, Frieda Culp; many nieces and nephews.

She enjoyed crossword puzzles, gardening, bird watching, and raising chickens; in her younger years she read numerous books; enjoyed fishing, mudding, and horseback riding at the cabin; and teaching Sunday school at the Palisade Assembly of God. Above all, she cherished her family and friends, especially her grandchildren.
Barbara will be remembered fondly for her sweet, kind demeanor; her cool, collected personality; and her distinctive voice. She retired from her cooking job in the Monticello schools in 1998 and moved to McGregor, MN.
Barbara is preceded in death by her husband, James Thorpe; her father, Gilbert Lauman; her mother, Mildred Moore; and her two younger sisters, Sharon and Sandy.
She is survived by her daughters and grandchildren and great grandchildren, Kim (Vern) Garberich parents of Jamie and Michael (Alison) Garberich, Linda (Dan) Elstad parents of Brent (Brienne) and Derek Elstad, Cindy (Brian) Pemberton parents of Alec and Preston Pemberton; and her great-grandchildren Caleb Ludwig, Soo-yeon Griffith-Garberich, Carson Kolles, Jameson Elstad, and Jackson Elstad.

Our dearly loved Mom, age 90 of Monticello, passed away peacefully on March 23, 2024. She was born in Cold Spring, Minnesota on January 18, 1934.
Preceding her in death are her parents; Lawrence and Loretta (Keppers) Thielmann; beloved husband Archie; and siblings Gina, Doc, Cy, Vaya, Almie, Noney and Mary. Survivors include her children Jeffrey Theisen, Ruth (David) Braun, Brad (Marci Mueller) Theisen, and Amy (Nick) Walz; grandchildren Ben, Ashley (Seth), Jake, Alex (Angela), Jacqui, Noah (Krista), and Jessica; great-grandson Declan; siblings Marlene, Wally (Louise); brother-in-law Wally Theisen; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
She was a member of St Henry’s Catholic Church.  She was a tireless volunteer who touched many lives within multiple ministries in her community and church.   She was the recipient of the 2012 Council of Catholic Women: The Lay Women Award.  She was a member of Ladies of the Assembly, supporting Archie in his role as a 4th degree Knights of Columbus.
She enjoyed many jobs throughout her life.   Her final job was as a receptionist at St Ben’s Senior Community, where she created their volunteer program.
She is remembered for her warm smile, kind heart, and generous spirit. Her dedication to her husband Archie and family was steadfast and unmatched. Her children and grandchildren remember her unwavering support at all of their activities, sporting events, concerts and graduations etc.  Some of her greatest joys were spent around the kitchen table visiting and playing cards with family and friends.   She loved to host family dinners and share her delicious mashed potatoes and potato salad.
Archie & Carrie always had an open door and welcoming hearts.  They hosted foreign exchange students from Denmark, Ecuador and Mexico.  Her loving spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11AM on Wednesday, March 27, 2024, with visitation 1 hour prior at the Church of Saint Henry, 1001 E. 7th St., Monticello. Luncheon after mass,  followed by interment at Saint Henry’s Church Cemetery.

Janet was a teacher at Rivercrest Christian School and later worked as a secretary for Bridgeview Church. She loved spending time with her family and traveling. Janet is survived by her children: Julie (Donovan) Olson, Rebecca (Jeff) Loverude, David (Blanca) Collins and Merry (David) Bakken, 12 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, stepchildren:  Linda (Dan) Gassler, Jim (Marianne) Person, Carol (Keith) Haasl and Mark Person, plus many step grandchildren and great grandchildren. Earl John Poirier was born March 12, 1934, in Faribault, Minnesota. He was born to Earl John Poirier Sr. and Sylene (Gingras) Poirier. He was one of seven children.
John attended Loras College in Dubuque, Iowa from 1952 to 1956 where he majored in Biology. After graduating college, he went immediately to Navy Officer School in Rhode Island. He was stationed on the U.S.S. General Breckenridge where he traveled the world. While in the Navy, he attended the University of Minnesota where he met his wife Elizabeth Flannery and completed his degree in Pharmacy. They were united in marriage at Christ the King Church in Edina, Minnesota on August 1st, 1964. Their union was blessed with three children and the family made their home in Monticello, Minnesota. He was honorably discharged in 1968.
In 1971, John purchased a drug store in Monticello that he named Poirier Drug where he was a pharmacist for over 12 years. He then sold the drug store but continued to pursue his career as a pharmacist working at K-Mart and Sam’s Club until he retired. He was active in the community as a member of the rotary club and was a member of the Chamber of Commerce where he served as President in 1974.
John was an avid outdoors man who loved to hunt and fish. He was an active member of Fur Fin and Feathers. John was a long-time member of St. Henry’s Catholic church and was a devout Catholic.
Grateful to have shared John’s life are two sons, Steve (Colleen) Poirier of California and Greg (Tonia) Poirier of Rogers, MN; four grandchildren, McKade and Morgan Poirier, and Hayden and Jillian Poirier.
Preceding John in death were his parents, Earl John and Sylene; his wife, Elizabeth; and his daughter, Anne.
