Obituary Preview: 23rd Psalm
The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.
He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.
He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake.
Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.
Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever.

Marian X. Pham Nguyen - January 09, 1960 - August 25, 2021

Departed: 08/25/2021 (Kent)
Obituary Preview: A loving wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, and sister, Marian Xuan Pham-Nguyen drew her last breath on August 25, 2021 surrounded by her family at home. Spending her life nurturing and spreading love to friends and family, the lost of her life was immediately felt by all in her room. God brought her into this world on January 9, 1960 in Bien Hoa, Vietnam born to the late Vuong Nguyen and Phuc Vu. As one of the older siblings in a large family, Marian’s early life was engraved with the importance of taking care of family by looking after and cooking for her younger siblings while her parents worked to provide for their children. In Vietnam she met the love of her life, Christopher, who openly swears that she is the most beautiful woman in this world to this day after 40 wonderful years of marriage. Shortly after their marriage and giving birth to their first daughter, Tracy, Marian and Christopher were faced with the reality of their war-torn country and decided to pursue a better life in America. After many attempts to escape and a perilous journey that included evading gunfire and a stint in prison, they made their way to the Philippines where they had their second daughter, Angie. Following months of preparation and dedication, they arrived in America in 1989. Having only a small amount of knowledge of English, Marian paved the way for her family to find success in America. Settling in Kent, Washington Marian went on to grow her family with the birth of daughter, Diana, and son, Anthony. An avid cook, Marian went on to open a restaurant to share cultural Vietnamese dishes and provide for her family. Known to spread happiness through her cooking, Marian spent her life ensuring that no stomaches went empty or unsatisfied in her family. Notorious for being the last to sit down for a meal, Marian made sure the plates were filled for others before herself; even through the constant nagging of her children for her to join. With a contagious laughter that would fill the room, Marian enjoyed family gatherings where she shined with her big heart. She enjoyed traveling and spending time with her family. A proud Catholic, Marian was dedicated in her beliefs and adored by her church and community. Marian is survived by her loving husband, Christopher, her four children Tracy, Angie, Diana, and Anthony, her granddaughter, Adeline, her mother Phuc Vu, her siblings, Tam, Thuy, Phong, Huyen, and Thao. If a lesson were said to be imparted on her family, it would be to love and care for those that bring joy to your life.

Agnes Irene McLaughlin - June 16, 1923 - January 25, 2021

Departed: 01/25/2021 (Kent)
Obituary Preview: Agnes “Maggie” Irene McLaughlin of Renton, WA passed away peacefully of natural causes on January 25, 2021; her daughters by her side.  She was 97.
Maggie was born June 16th, 1923 in Osakis Minnesota to Clinton and Lila (Ritter) DeCamp; the 7th of 9 children born to her parents. She had 4 brothers – Bernard (Barney), George, James & John and 4 sisters – Margaret, Frances, Christine and Lila. The family moved from Minnesota to Oregon and then to Vancouver, WA where Maggie spent most of her childhood and teenage years. In 1941 she graduated from Providence Academy – an all-girl high school at the time. All of Maggie’s working life was spent serving the public – as a waitress/hostess and her favorite job as a social worker. There she found her most gratifying niche. She loved people!
Maggie was married twice; both times a Catholic service which was the basis of her devout faith. In the mid 40’s Maggie lived in Seattle, WA where she worked for the Boeing Co. during the war as a riveter. There she met and eventually married her first husband Victor G. Vieg in 1945. They made their home in Renton, WA and had 7 children. Richard, Guy, Susan(deceased), Nancy(Randy) Collins, Tad (died in infancy 1956), Mitch and Elizabeth (Rick) Girdler. As life would have it, their marriage ended in divorce in 1969. In 1974 she married Jack J. McLaughlin whom she had met while working as a hostess at Sirloin Inn in Renton. During their 30 years of marriage she had opportunities to travel with Jack on business trips to places such as Jordan, Egypt and Singapore. She loved it! In 1978 Maggie had a benign brain tumor removed which resulted in total hearing loss in her left ear and facial nerve damage. Being the strong woman that she was she accepted the difficulties these disabilities brought but with her deep faith in God she overcame her challenges with grace and dignity. She was widowed in 2004. A few years later she moved to Evergreen Place retirement residence – now named Solstice- where she spent the last 10 years of her life. There she made quite a presence of herself due to her very outgoing & sociable nature. She loved to incite and engage in conversations - an all-around warm, fun personality! Like some have said of her -”she was quite a fixture here at Solstice”!!  She enjoyed her years there and loved the many friends she made.
Maggie is survived by her younger sister Lila, her children (except Susan, Tad and granddaughter Felicity), grandchildren - Rachel (Jon Wood) Collins, Natalie (Mark) Bryant, Simon Vieg, Irina Girdler & Ally Vieg. Also, great grandchildren Isabella, Georgia & Desmond Vieg, Jack Collins Wood and Amaya Vieg.
Maggie has left an indelible imprint on the hearts and minds of all who knew and loved her. Memories of her life well lived and her loving soul will always prompt a smile! Her enduring love of family and friends is an example to live by - she’s forever in our hearts. Agnes “Maggie” is at eternal rest at Gethsemane Cemetery in Federal Way, WA
