Obituary Preview: Elijha A. McNeil Sr. was born on November 12, 1986 to Tracey Dean McNeil and Darnell Kahlif Jones in Newark, New Jersey. Due to unforeseen tragedy Elijha became orphaned at the age of 2 yrs old and was placed in the care of his maternal grandmother Eva McNeil and was raised in Irvington, New Jersey.
Elijha attended Grove Street Elementary School, Myrtle Avenue Middle school and Irvington High school where he was involved in several extracurricular activities such as chess, music, athletic and dance clubs. Elijha often participated in talent shows and shared his love for and educated others in music, martial arts and athletics specifically flipping and had a great love for the outdoors.
Despite his lifelong yearning to be with his mother Elijha gained a strong love and connection for family as a child being reared by a multitude of close family members including his uncles and brothers; and developed sibling like bonds with his cousins and nephews.
Elijha moved to Syracuse New York in 2004 with an entrepreneurial spirit and had several successful ventures that provided travel opportunities throughout New York state fulfilling his love for the outdoors.
Eliha met his significant other Allison Fountaine in November 2006 and thereafter become a father in January 2008 with the birth of their oldest son Marquez with the following blessings of Elijha Jr., DeAndre, Malakai, and Aliyah. Throughout his fatherhood journey Elijha was also blessed with his oldest daughter Taleeyah.
Elijha shared his love of the outdoors and entrepreneurial spirit with his children with frequent outings to parks and recreational areas, they often helped him with various part time jobs and mechanical projects. Elijha always taught his children their sibling bonds were forever despite any adversity they may face in life.
Elijha had a very strong faith in GOD which he instilled in his children, teaching them to pray and always keep GOD first. Elijha was a devoted and loving father who despite his silent battles provided for his family and in the end fought relentlessly for the return of his child.
Eliha transitioned from this world on May 10th, 2024 surrounded by family and love, he leaves behind to cherish his memory: Children: Marquez I. McNeil, Elijha A. McNeil Jr., DeAndre I. McNeil, Malakai Z. McNeil, Aliayh T. McNeil, and Taleeyah T. Ozelma Deloris Barba-Mandeville was born to Sampson Sr., and Dorothy Hughes on August 31, 1941, in Marion, South Carolina. She was the sixth child of seven siblings; Sampson Jr., Alfonzo William, Evelyn Elizabeth, Annie Ruth, Dorothy Lee, and Jean Francis. This close-knit family was exceptional and supportive of each other. They enjoyed spending time with each other, cooking, laughing, and singing. Spiritual Journey
Deloris's parents raised them in the church, where they attended St. John A.M.E. church and when school was out for the summer, the children attended Bible School. The family migrated to Newark, NJ and Deloris and her family joined Israel Memorial Methodist Church. Soon after, the entire family joined Ebenezer Baptist Church under the leadership of Dr. Rev. Wesley Lee. In 1980, the family joined Beulah Grove Baptist Church where Dr. Rev. Aquilla Johnson, Sr. served as pastor. After the death of Rev. Johnson, Deloris joined New Life Body of Church where her niece, Dr. Tracy Davis served as her pastor until she transitioned to glory. A Time to Learn
After Deloris arrived in Newark, NJ at the age of 11, her parents enrolled her in the Robert Treat Elementary School. Deloris had no problem meeting new friends, her social skills came naturally. She went on to further her academics at Central High School where she graduated and received her diploma. A Time to Build
After graduation, Deloris's career path began at Little Falls Cleaning Services where she worked as a business coordinator and tactician. While enjoying her new job, Deloris fell in love and married Donald Barba in 1958, and out of that union came two beautiful children. Unfortunately, Deloris became a young widow when tragedy hit her family. Nonetheless, with a large pillar of family support, she was able to heal from a devastating heartbreak. Years later while exploring a new job opportunity, Deloris met William Abraham Robinson and from that relationship, two incredible sons were born.
Lois went on to become a mixologist at the Twenty Grand Lounge for over 30 years where her extraordinary service was a testament to her professionalism and popularity amongst patrons. It was there where she was known as “Dee”, while others called her “Queen”. She became a member of several social clubs but the one most dear to her heart was the Palmetto Social Club, which represented her home state. Through her social circle, she crossed paths with an amazing man by the name of Paul Mandeville, Sr. Deloris, and Paul built a special friendship that bloomed into a romance which led to marriage on March 12th, 2016. The couple traveled and enjoyed their blended families. A Time To Die
After an arduous health journey, Deloris went home to be with the Lord on May, 9th at Bayshore Medical Center, in Holmdel, NJ. Deloris is predeceased by her parents. She leaves to cherish two sisters, Ann Little and Jean Rogers; one daughter Debra Evelyn, and two sons, William “Mutah” (La Shonda) and Terry “Tibeer”; six step-children, Paul Jr., Kenneth, Cheryl, James, Kevin, and Selina; Special caregivers, stepson Jamie, step-grandson Jared Mandeville and God-daughter Connie McQueen; 16 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind one sister-in-law, Carol Hughes, and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.

Obituary Preview: It is with profound regret and great sorrow that we acknowledged the transition to his final resting place, Darrell Cardell Moore. He was born on September 21, 1966 in Newark, New Jersey to the late James Otis Moore, Sr. and Lessie Viola Woods-Moore and left this world on May 7, 2024 in Livingston, New Jersey at the remarkable age of fifty-seven.
Cardell graduated from Clifford J. Scott High School in 1986 and graduated Essex County College in 2006. Following graduation, he became a Teacher’s Assistant at East Orange Campus High School. He retired from East Orange Campus High School in 2023 with over 30 years of service.
During Cardell’s spare time he attended Broadway shows, listened to jazz music and read books. He was a profound story-writer and bowler. He was not a man of many words, but when he spoke everyone listened. Cardell was a selfless person and cared deeply for his family, friends, facility and students of East Orange Campus High School. He even purchased school supplies for the students on his own dime.
Cardell was preceded in death by his loving father, James Otis Moore, Sr.
Cardell’s memories will be forever cherished by his loving mother, Lessie Viola Woods-Moore of the home; One brother, James Otis Moore, Jr. (Pamela) of Raleigh, North Carolina; One sister, Lavunda Dee Moore of the home; One nephew, Shawn Michael King (Eva) of Allentown, Pennsylvania; One Niece, Shanice Lessie-Ann Long of the home; Two step nephews, Kamari Rashon Torras and Dashon Raheem Roper; Three great nephews, Darius Michael King, Dyami Antonio King and Dashawn Otis King; One great-great nephew, Master Amari Michael King; Three uncles, Albert Kearney of Louisburg, North Carolina, William Avery Woods of Ocean City, New Jersey and Julius Toussaint Woods of Manhattan, New York; Three aunts, Faymer Cook of Raleigh, North Carolina, Lois Mae Thomas of Louisburg, North Carolina and Lola Moore of Henderson, North Carolina; along with a host of other family members and close friends.

Obituary Preview: Jessie Lee Lane was born to Mose and Lenora Perkins on August 18, 1931 in Riviera Beach, Florida. Jessie married Horace Lane. Six children - five daughters and one son, were born to their marriage. They are Sylvia Lane (deceased), Angela Lucinda Stewart, Patricia Johnson, Kelvin Horace Lane, Jr. (deceased), Jacqueline Lane Harris and Gina Diane Armstrong. Jessie's husband predeceased her.
The Lane family spent their early family life in Newark, New Jersey. Later they moved to Roselle, Now Jersey and spent many happy years there. Jessie and Horace enjoyed gathering the family together for backyard barbecues, music and fun.
Together, Jessie and Horace worked hard to protect and care for their children. It was important to Jessie that her children believe in God. So, while living in Newark she took her children to Smyrna Baptist Church.
After moving to Roselle, she and her children joined Bethlehem Baptist Missionary Church. As a missionary, Jessie was honored to have completed missionary work in Haiti. Jessie was involved in numerous church activities and has served as a church officer. Jessie was a member of Second Baptist Missionary Church Toms River, New Jersey.
Jessie's interests were varied. She loved flowers and became a Florist. She successfully trained to be an EKG Technician and spent several years in that profession. Jessie enjoyed many wonderful fun times in Atlantic City, New Jersey. She has also traveled to Oahu, Hawaii, Cozumel, Mexico, Nassau, Bahamas and has enjoyed cruising to the Caribbean islands.
Jessie was the fourth of six children. She is survived by her only and beloved sister, Mary Jane Wiley. Jessie's four brothers, Aron, Smiley, Charles and Mose predeceased her. Jessie was the mother-in-law to Donald Stewart (deceased), Charlie Johnson (deceased) and Dwight Armstrong. She also leaves to cherish her memory, four daughters, eleven grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild and a host of dear family and friends.
Jessie was a beautiful woman who lived a full life and loved the Lord. She had a wonderful sense of humor. She will be "Forever in our Hearts. Rest In Peace - Till We Meet Again

Dennis was a southern native. He was born in Cayce, South Carolina and raised in Newark, New Jersey. As a youth, he attended Madison Avenue Elementary School, 7th Avenue Jr. High and West Side High School. He then went on to become a medic for the National Guard. He enjoyed helping others in any way that he could.
As a young man, Dennis enjoyed playing the game of tops and playing basketball. Fishing with his father were some of his most cherished core memories. From his humble beginnings, he grew into a man who was respected by many for his character. A humble, easygoing and artistic soul is who he will be remembered as.
A natural born creative and lover of the performing and fine arts would best describe Dennis. He absolutely loved newspaper comics. He spent the majority of his down time exercising his unique artistic abilities in the notebooks of his choosing. He also had a distinct drawing style that was hard to mimic. He could draw very well. His passion for the arts did not stop there. He loved great music. The Temptations, Luther Vandross and The Whispers were some of his favorite artists. You could catch him on any day listening to his oldies but goodies playlist, especially after picking his nieces and nephew up from school. Music impacted him deeply and positively.
As Dennis takes his journey back to God, he will forever be remembered in the hearts of his mother, Mary Freeman; his three brothers, Marvin Boozer, Ronnie Freeman and Reginald Freeman; his sister, Donna Boozer; his nieces, Walida Morgan, Jazmin Williams and Regina Williams; his nephews, Ronnie Wilson and Sunni Amos; his great nieces, Makeda Morgan, Keonte Cox and Serenity Morgan; his great nephews, Camron Cox and Chase Amos; and his great grandnieces, Heaven Morgan and Alani Amos.

To this union, 8 children were born. Eldred and Harry relocated to Newark, NJ where they raised their children.
Eldred accepted Christ as her Savior at an early age in South Carolina. Later she chose Greater Mt. Moriah Baptist Church in Newark, NJ as her place of worship and became a member. While attending Greater Mt. Moriah she was a member of the Pastor’s Aide and the Scholarship Committee. Eldred served faithfully until her health failed.
Eldred was a very loving and caring mother, daughter, grandmother and friend. Her grandchildren affectionately called her “The Big G”. Her family and friends enjoyed eating her delicious Coconut Pineapple Cake. She loved the Lord and enjoyed watching Soap Operas and watching Steve Harvey.
Eldred worked at various jobs. She was employed as a Teacher’s Aide and Home Health Care Aide in Newark, NJ.
Eldred was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one son and 1 brother Aaron Clyburn.
Mrs. Eldred Cook leaves to cherish her loving memory her 7 children, Marvin Cook, Elder Michael Cook (Jacqueline), Valerie Cook, Marice Cook, Mitchell Cook, Michelle Cook-Oglesby (Jeffery) and Bernard Cook; 1 brother, Willious Sowell; 10 grandchildren, Damika, LaToya, Trirese, Samad, Ahmad, Shanel, Sadiyyah, Tevian, Jemari and Asia; 4 great-grandchildren; a special nephew who was like a son, Aaron Clyburn; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Audrey Ann Freeman - August 10, 1951 - April 30, 2024

Obituary Preview: Audrey Ann Freeman, a loving soul, transitioned on April 30th, 2024 at 10:26am at the age of 72. She will be truly missed by her family, friends and all who knew her. Audrey was born in Lincolnton, GA on August 10th, 1951.
Audrey went to school in Lincolnton, GA until she relocated to Passaic, NJ in 1967 where she continued her education at PHS. She later received her cosmetology License from Wilfred Academy. She also pursued a career in the medical field which started her career at St. Mary's Hospital’s Psychiatric Department in Passaic, NJ where she worked for over 25 years. She later relocated to Maplewood, NJ and started a career at Cedar Grove Psychiatric Hospital in Cedar Grove, NJ where she retired 7 years later in the city of South Orange, NJ.
Audrey was also a member of Metropolitan Baptist Church in Newark, NJ.
Audrey was a one of a kind person who was always there to lend a helping hand. She was always a joy to be around. She loved being with the family and going out to eat. She was excited about retiring so that she could travel more, go shopping (which she loved to do), and most of all spend time with her family.
Audrey leaves to cherish her memories, her Beloved Children - Donald L. Freeman, Ananka Dixon-Phanor and Levaun Dixon. Son-in-law - Ismac Phanor. Three Brothers - Romis, Larry and Johnny Freeman. One Sister - Lucinda Freeman. Along with thirteen Grandchildren, five Great Grandchildren, Nieces, Nephews, Cousins and Friends. Audrey was preceded in death by her Father, Willie Freeman, her Mother, Rev. Addie Rupert Freeman, and two Sisters - Barbara Ann Mitchell and Mary Patricia Freeman. Juanita attended Newark public schools. She graduated from Southside High School. A few years after high school Juanita met and married William A. (Jack) Watts and from this union Wanda and William C. was born. Juanita was a hard working word processor for DYFS for 44 years before retiring. She was affectionately called
"Funk and Wagner" because of her vast knowledge of the dictionary.
On April 29, 2024, Juanita was called home. She leaves loving and precious memories with her children Wanda and Bill; two granddaughters, Diamond and Aaliyah; one step-son Dana; a "special" daughter Vidella Williams; two "special" granddaughters Tahisha Potts and Sabria Price; and three "special" great granddaughters Julia, Jenee and Jordan; three loving nephews Kenneth, Simeon and Brian Timmons; one sister-in-law Margaret Timmons and one daughter-in-law Nancy Watts and a host of relatives and friends.
In honoring Juanita, we remember her for her warmth, love and dedication to her family. She left a lasting impression on everyone she met. There are so many that affectionately called her Ma and Grandma.
Mom, we love you and miss you very much. But know that we will see you again in the next life. Your loving children Wanda & Bill

Ethel Mae Goethe - July 03, 1938 - April 28, 2024

Obituary Preview: Ethel Mae Goethe was born July 3, 1938 to the late Rosie Lee and Stonewall Jackson in Lee County, Georgia. She would receive her early years of education in the Lee County Public School System.
Affectionately called Honey and Big Auntie, she decided to join some of her relatives who relocated to Newark, NJ in 1957.
In Ethel's earlier years in Newark, she would have various jobs working in factories. In 1959 she met the late Elliot Goethe and the two would marry in 1960. To their union one son, Ernest Goethe was born.
Ethel provided multiple independent services such as sewing, cleaning, and babysitting. She became a foster parent to nearly 40 plus children; adopting Raheem Acres Goethe & Spenser James Goethe.
Ethel dedicated her life to Christ at an early age when she joined Phillip Grove Baptist Church in Lee County, GA. After her move to Newark, she joined Pleasant Grove Baptist Church under the Pastorate of the late Rev. Willie J. Harris, and then she united under the Pastorate of Rev. Robert Moreland. In 1974, under the Pastorate of Rev. Elliot Goethe, she and others helped found the Overcome Baptist Church. She remained a faithful member under the Pastorates of the late Elder Eugene Woodson and the late Johnny R. Peterson. Ethel was ordained in 1995 as an Evangelist by the late Pastor Greene and later by Bishop Harold Montgomery. She later joined under the Pastorate of Pastor O' Daye at Shiloh Baptist Church. Evangelist Goethe fellowshipped with several churches throughout her life such as, House of Mercy Mission, Gospel Cathedral Baptist Church and Greater Mount Mariah to name a few.
Ethel was a lover of people. Helping those in need came natural to her. She loved to cook and bake. She was famous for her homemade biscuits and peach cobbler. Ethel was proceeded in death by both of parents Rosie and Stonewall, sisters; Odessa Josey and Mary Covin, brothers; Henry and Lenwood Jackson and daughters; Tamar Williams, Helena Cooper and Lillian
Terry.
She leaves to cherish her memory sons; Ernest Goethe, Raheem Goethe (Shakine), Spenser Goethe (Taneshia), Anthony Cooper, Joseph Cooper, Sikeme Mayes, and daughter Shawntae Wilson. 10 Grandchildren; Ernest (EJ), Brianne, Alnisha, Tajaron, Shanell, Autumn, Harlow and Hollis. 3 Great-grandchildren. 2 God-children Jonethea Jones and Oscar Calhoun. Geoffrey was born on October 23rd, 1953 to his late parents Mattie Green and Jerry Neal in Newark, New Jersey.
Geoffrey, grew up in the East Ward at 555 Ferry Street where he lived with his mother Mattie Green and Sisters Gloria Green, Janice Green, Annette Green, Malana Green and Brother Dennis Green.
Geoffrey attended Hawkins Street Elementary School and graduated from East Side High School in June 1974 with a Basketball Scholarship from East Side High School. He had an extreme passion towards Basketball and he played Center Guard in College in Des Moines, Iowa. After all, he was 6’3’ tall. When he returned home from college Geoffrey worked at Johnson & Johnson for 25 years and then later worked at United Airlines at Newark International Airport for many years and he retired in 2019.
Geoffrey, loved going to New York City to see all varieties of concerts, Broadway shows and basketball games regularly as if it was a 2nd Job. Whenever, he could not attend he would watch it from the sofa while eating an Italian Cheeseburger from one of his favorite spots Nico’s Pizzeria & Grill. Sometimes he would have Popeye’s Chicken and Devil Dogs snack on the side. If you knew him, you knew that Geoffrey loved to eat and Thanksgiving was his Favorite holiday and he would be ready to throw down. Also, Thanksgiving was insurance for him to collect several dinner plates. I could hear him now saying “No pork on my fork!”.
Geoffrey was a vibrant soul when he stepped out. You would be able to spot him a mile away just because of the colors he would combine. He had a very unique and charismatic appeal with his style of dress. All of his colorful special tailor made suits made fashion statements. Some of them even came along with matching hats, belts, shoes, cane and even an umbrella. People were so infatuated with his flashy style that they would ask to take a picture with him and he would be happy to oblige.
Geoffrey was preceded in death by his Parents Mattie Green & Jerry Neal. His Sisters Gloria Schwager and Malana Green. His Brother Dennis Green. Nephew Anthony Dixon and Great Niece Jayla Green.
Geoffrey leaves to cherish his memory, Sisters Janice Mumford and Annette Green. His Aunts Mary Ann Ware and Louise Hill. Nieces Latoya Banks, Jennifer Schwager, Tamara Green, Malana Green, Denise Green, Adrin Dixon, Bernecia Green & Shanteerah Green. James Sr. is survived by his two sons, Horace Robertson and James Stoney Jr., two sisters, Patsy Beverett and Sarah Jarvis, grandchildren, Brian Singleton, Ben Griffin, Richard Leak, LuRetta Singleton, Tonya Smith, Benjamin Robertson and Jamaar Robertson. He is preceded in death by his parents, his daughter, Stella Mae Singleton, and his sister, Louisa Stoney Weeks. He will be greatly missed.
