Mr. Harry Lee Webster - February 29, 1940 - April 11, 2022

Departed: 04/11/2022 (Jackson)
Obituary Preview: Mr. Harry Lee Webster was born on February 29, 1940, in Pocahontas, Mississippi. He was the first son born to Clarence, Sr., and Hazel Webster. Harry, who was lovingly known as "Skeeter". Harry attended school in the Hinds County School District and, at an early age, he was baptized at Mt. Center M.B. Church where he was an active member until his health declined. Harry left Pocahontas and moved to Jackson at the age of 18 to begin his life as a young man, A few years later, a friend of the family introduced Harry to Eliza Mae Jones, the woman he would soon fall in love with. Harry and Eliza married in 1962 and moved to the south side of Chicago. In this union, Harry and Eliza had four sons.
Harry was an avid sports fan and could often be found enjoying the Chicago Cubs or Sox game with his four boys. Sundays in the Webster household meant Harry, his boys, and his neighborhood friends would be gathered around the TV enjoying the Chicago Bears football game. Harry was a stern father who protected his boys and made sure they did not fall victim to the streets. When Harry's children were elementary school age, he would send them to Pocahontas for their summer break because he wanted to keep them connected to their family roots, learn the value of hard work, and keep them occupied and off the streets. Harry and Eliza's household was well known in the neighborhood as a safe space to hang out and was often filled with kids from the community.
Harry developed a strong work ethic from spending his early years, along with his seven siblings, working on his parent's farm. Although Harry was not able to pursue higher education, he made sure that his four boys received a good education and he was extremely proud that each of his sons attended college. Harry began a career with Montgomery Wards in Chicago, which lasted for over twenty years. He later began working at Alcan Aluminum until he retired in 1998.
Harry was a man of conviction; if he made up his mind to do something, he would do it. He had a big personality which naturally drew people to him. Harry enjoyed talking and joking with people and he enjoyed sharing his family history. When Harry returned home to Pocahontas in 1998, he began farming again. Harry would work in his garden all day in the hot sun, growing vegetables just to be able to share them with friends and family.
Harry will be greatly missed, Harry was preceded in death by his wife, Eliza Webster. Cherishing his memory are his beloved sons; Derick, Vincent, and Stevie of Chicago, Illinois, and Donal (Chanda) of Kalamazoo, Michigan: his siblings; Annie Lee of Pocahontas, Mississippi. Melonia Anderson of Chicago, Illinois, Mose Webster of Pocahontas, Mississippi. Eunice Rooks (Samuel), of Detroit, Michigan, Clarence Webster, Jr., (Dorothy), and Gladys Hollins (Willie) of Pocahontas, Mississippi his grandchildren; Brianna, Demetria, Mariah, and Devin: his two great-grandchildren; Brielle and Darius: and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family, and friends.

Mr. David Marvin Bowles - April 15, 1949 - March 20, 2022

Departed: 03/20/2022 (Jackson)
Obituary Preview: David Marvin Bowles April 15, 1949 – March 20th, 2022, passed away peacefully at age 72.  David was a lifelong bachelor who loved cats and was fond of turtles.  His nickname growing up was turtle and his email started with “turtleread”.  This was appropriate as his Master’s degree was in library science and his entire career consisted of college and university libraries, including River Bend Library (Coal Valley, Illinois), Sherman College of Chiropractic (Spartanburg, S.C.), and Coker Memorial library (Coker College, Hartsville, S.C.).  He served as a professor of library science at both the Coker College and the school of medicine at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville.
Known as being Quirky, a college job was in a division of the Air America program acting as a courier between the United States and Vietnam.  Run by the CIA, David had a briefcase handcuff to his wrist and made at least four covert trips delivering items, goods, people, and whatever was necessary to deliver to places that the United States military could or would not go.  Because these operations were sealed by Presidential Executive Order, we only know that he traveled to Airfields called Tan Son Nhut and Cam Rahn Bay and was always met by a four-person military escort.  This experience, along with his undergraduate degrees in economics and philosophy lead to a lifetime interest in politics and economics.
After losing his kidneys, he lasted through seven years of dialysis, only to be robbed at gunpoint while he was pulling his walker out of his car.  Most people would have just turned over the keys when someone points a gun at them, but not David.  He told the robbers that they wouldn’t get far as his car had OnStar and could be turned off remotely.  Panicking, the robbers pistol-whipped him and he hit his head on the ground.  Stubborn, David survived another year but with many hospitalizations.
He was proceeded in death by his parents, Marvin Bowles and Glenda Bennett. David is survived by his brother, Steve Bowles, and his sister, Cindy Mathews.  His extended family includes Paula Mathews (Niece), Chris Mathews (Nephew), Gordon Ronco (Nephew), and many grand nieces and nephews.  He also is survived by his cats-Walmart cat, Arrowcat, and Moose cat, as well as his roommate and friend John Kramm and next-door neighbor JoAnn Hubbart as well as his best friend Bill Zahner from Albuquerque, New Mexico.
Over his years, he donated to many causes including the 7th Day Adventist church, Wikipedia, American Kidney Foundation, and the Humane Society.

Ms. Lee Ester Thompson - April 02, 1937 - February 24, 2022

Departed: 02/24/2022 (Jackson)
Obituary Preview: Ms. Lee Ester (Pete) Thompson was born on April 2, 1937, from the union of Alfred (Buddy) and Leola Thompson in Florence, MS.
Her father was so determined to see his children receive a quality education that he would drive them from Florence to Jackson to attend Lanier High School. Pete graduated from Lanier High School in 1955 and enrolled at Jackson State College. She only completed a couple years of college initially because she wanted to work and raise a family. In 1966, she relocated from Mississippi to Chicago in search of better opportunities. After three years of living in Chicago, and living near her sister Dearlene, she returned to Mississippi to be closer to her parents and siblings.
Pete and her sister Helen were inseparable, often living together or very close by each other.
After she and Helen got their first home together, Pete returned to college and received her Bachelor of Science degree from Jackson State University in 1975. Shortly after graduating, she became an elementary teacher for the Rankin County School District and retired after 25 years of service. She was well loved by her students and co-workers as evidenced by the number of Christmas gifts she would receive each year.
Pete loved spending time with her parents, siblings, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and friends of the family. Pete had three amazing children: Stephone (Stephen), Keith and Kimberly (Renee). And she was very proud of her three children and their accomplishments. When her grandchildren came along, she had just as much love for them to make them feel special. Pete had a way of making everyone she met feel like they belonged to the “Thompson” family. Anytime she spent with Frenchie, Thurman, Dearlene and Helen were some of her most memorable occasions. She loved her children with all her heart and wanted to make sure they had happy and wonderful lives.
She enjoyed life and doing activities as a family such as playing cards, attending gatherings, and going on vacation. She also loved to dress-up and attend formal events, JSU football games, going to the hair salon weekly and shopping. She and her sister would travel to New Orleans to get their hair done and shop. But her favorite activity was cooking. She loved to cook, and her meals could feed an Army. She would buy cookbooks and immediately try a new recipe each week.
Pete had an infectious smile, was very thoughtful, and caring. Sundays were always the best of times, sitting with family members and anyone who would stop by, she would offer a plate and share stories. After a long battle with kidney failure, she finally succumbed to her illness on February 24, 2022. She was preceded in death by her beloved siblings: Kermit (brother), Azalea (sister), Ruby Lee (sister), and Dearlene (sister).
She leaves to cherish her memories her remaining siblings:  Frenchie Crowley, Thurman (Argentina) Thompson and Helen Cromwell; her devoted children: Stephone (Stephen) Thompson of Jackson, MS; Keith Thompson (Ronda) of Clinton, MS; and Kimberly (Renee) Rancifer (Perez) of Clinton, MS; loving grandchildren:  James, Amy, Keith Jr. (JR), Kelli, Dominque (DJ), Ashley, Isaiah and Brooke and her great grandchildren:  Jayvion (JJ), Jamison, Lucius, Joi and Journi. She also leaves who she loved as her own a multitude of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Visitation Hours will be held Friday 03/04/22 from 12-7 p.m. at Peoples Funeral Home
Funeral Services will be held Saturday 03/05/22 at Christ the King located on 2303 John R. Lynch Street Jackson, MS, 39209 and proceed to Garden Memorial Cemetery located on 8001 Hwy 49 North.

Don't grieve for me, for now, I'm free, I'm following the path GOD laid for me. I took His hand when I heard His call, I turned my back and I left it all. I could not stay another day, To laugh, to love, or to play. Tasks left undone must stay that way I've found that peace at the close of the day. If my parting has left a void. Then fill it with remembered joy. A friendship shared a laugh, a kiss. Ah, YES, these things   I too will miss. Be not burdened with time of sorrow, I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow. My life's been full, I savored much, Good friends, good times, a loved one's touch. Perhaps my time seemed all too brief, Don't lengthen it now with undue grief. Lift up your heart and share with me, GOD wanted me NOW,....HE SET ME FREE...
