She was born on August 2, 1964 in West Palm Beach, Florida, the daughter of the late Richard and Judith (Fox) White. Beth grew up in Bay City and graduated from Bay City Central High School. She spent most of her time around the home raising her children, later in life she worked at Jack’s Fruit and Meat Market. She loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.
Surviving family include her son, Neil (Desiree) McLachlan Jr.; daughter, Kimberly Williams; grandchildren, Gia and Mila McLachlan, Dominic Wascher and Kamdon & Kartel Williams; siblings, Colin (Leann) White, Richard (Anne) White, Terry White and Scott (Holly) White; step-siblings, Jim (Marsha) Johnroe, Louis Johnroe, Floyd (Becky) Johnroe and Roxann Miesen as well as many nieces, nephews and friends. Obituary Preview: Sally Kay Kriewall was taken to glory on May 2, 2024 surrounded by her family after a battle with cancer at MyMichigan Health in Midland. She was born in Bay City, MI on November 24, 1946 to the late Richard F. and Arvilla Rae (Herrick) Schmidt.
Sally attended Wenona School, Kolb School, T. L. Handy High School class of 1964 and Saginaw General Nursing School where she received her R.N. degree in 1967. She served as a Registered Nurse in one of the first neonatal intensive care units in America at Stanford Medical Center, Palo Alto, CA from 1967 to 1968. She served as a Registered Nurse at the University of Michigan Medical School’s neonatal intensive care unit from 1976 to 1979. Sally was the First Lady while her husband was president of Wisconsin Lutheran College from 2003 to 2008. Sally was an avid quilter having been member of numerous quilting groups and was the founder of The Hudson Heritage Quilters, Hudson, WI.
Sally is survived by her husband, Timothy J. Kriewall whom she married at St. John’s Ev. Lutheran Church on September 9, 1967. She also leaves 4 children: W. Michael (Katrina) Kriewall, Karen S. (Rev. Larry) Seafert, Jennifer C. (Keith) Berry and Bethany E. (Timothy) Hilgendorf, 13 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren and her sister Linda L. Hartz as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral and committal service will be held on Monday, May 6, 2024 at 11 a.m. at St. John’s Ev. Lutheran Church, Bay City. The Rev. Larry Seafert will officiate. Private burial will be at Floral Gardens Cemetery. The family requests that memorials be made to the Sally and Tim Kriewall Scholarship for Nursing Care Excellence at Wisconsin Lutheran College, 8800 W. Bluemound Road, Milwaukee, WI 53226. Visiting hours will be Sunday, May 5, 2024 from 3 to 7 p.m. at Penzien Steele Funeral Home and at the Church on Monday from 10 a.m. until the service begins.

Gail tirelessly & graciously owned and operated the Char House Restaurant for 46 years and later in life was a real estate agent with Century 21. She was preceded in death by her husband and partner, James Dougherty; daughter, Debbie Schroeder; grandson, Chad Schroeder; brother, Boyd Rowden; sister, Star Ann Rowden, and her parents, Helen Rowden and Frank Carrier. Those left to grieve over their loss of Gail are her daughter, Donna (Glenn Volk) Tarkowski Volk; granddaughter, Kathleen Schroeder; grandson, Ben (Ann Marie) Volk; granddaughter, Kristi (Jim) Ramseyer; great-granddaughter, Allison Schroeder; great-grandson, Leo Volk as well as many loved ones and dear friends. A special thank you to Kristi and Jim Ramseyer as well as lifelong friend, Ned Doyan for giving Gail and Jim so much support, help and love over the years. They afforded Gail and Jim dignity and respect in their later years of life. Very special gratitude to Niche Aging Center, especially Lacey and Jordan, for not only the wonderful care over these last few months but for LOVING Gail, treating her as a member of their family. He was born on February 8, 1943 in Bay City, the son of the late Robert and Violet (Peters) Irving. On May 7, 1960 Jim was united in marriage to Wanda Schalk. After serving in the US Navy Jim went to work as a heavy equipment operator. He belonged to the Operating Engineers Local 324 and where he served as Union Steward on many jobs throughout Michigan. Upon retirement, Jim became involved in the Democratic Party and was a member of the Bay City South End Citizens District Council and also served as a Bay City Commissioner.
Surviving family include his wife, Wanda; daughters, Kathy (Charles) Mitchell, Jamie Britton-Raines and Violet (Chris) Mikkelson as well as 11 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, his favorite nephews, Mike LeTourneau & Rob Parker and best friends & neighbors, Bo and Sandy. Jim was preceded in death by his brothers, Charles (Chick) Grumbly, Robert Irving and John (Jack) Irving.

She worked as a long-distance operator in the Flint area while pursuing her LPN degree. Vicki eventually was employed and would retire from the Toledo Mental Health Center and the Northwest Ohio Development Center. She enjoyed painting, creating crafts, cooking, shopping and fine dining. Vicki loved spending time with her family, especially attending her grandson’s sporting events.
Left to cherish her memory are her husband, George; daughter, Heidi Schmidt; grandsons, Robert (Ashley) Schmidt and Joseph Schmidt; great-grandchildren, Bennett and Emerson; sisters, Carol Bailey and Connie Stringer; brother-in-law, Harold Williams; step-children, Debra (Patrick) Lynch and David (Belinda) Dunham; step-great-grandchildren, Quinten, Taylor and Arizona Dunham & Jada, Hannah, Josh and Michael Lynch; as well as many nieces, nephews and friends. Gary L. Owczarzak - July 16, 1965 - April 16, 2024

Obituary Preview: Gary Lee Owczarzak passed away Tuesday afternoon, April 16, 2024 at McLaren Bay Region at the age of 58 years. He was born on July 16, 1965 in Bay City, the son of the late Virgil and Edith (Bowen) Owczarzak. Gary was a hardworking, loyal and loving husband, father and dzia-dzia. On September 10, 1988 he was united in marriage to Kari Lynn Lobodzinski and they worked and raised their family together in Bay City.
Gary was employed for over 30 years as the Meat Department Manager at the Essexville Kroger Store. He enjoyed the many friendships that went along with his memberships that included the PLAV Post #162, Fraternal Order of Eagles #1010, Knights of Columbus Council 2740, AmVets Post #22 and the American Legion Post #18. He enjoyed many activities that included playing darts, riding motorcycles, taking trips up north and spending time at deer camp. One of his favorite things to do was attending the St. Stanislaus Polish Festival Beer Tent while listening to polish music and enjoying a cold piwa. Gary was also an avid collector of all kinds of Budweiser merchandise and enjoyed watching MSU football and Detroit Tigers baseball. Above all Gary loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Kari; daughter, Chelsey (Alex) Van Den Boom; daughter-in-law, Kristen (Justin) Owczarzak-Monville; grandchildren, Avery and Chase Van Den Boom & Brinley and Cole Owczarzak; sister, Sue (Joe) Campbell; brother, Tom (Carrie) Owczarzak; brother-in-law, Greg (Chris) Lobodzinski, sisters-in-law, Lori Lobodzinski and Kelly Swiatowy; a special nephew, Jimmy (Jackie) Huebner & their daughter, Chloe as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Suzanne passed away peacefully at the age of 75 on Sunday, March 31, 2024.
She is survived by her four children Frederick (Kelli) Mau II, Kristin Mau, Jack Mau and Andrew Mau as well as her two grandchildren Ethan and Audrey, her sister Anne and brothers Ken, Dennis, William and John. Suzanne was predeceased by her husband of 36 years, Frederick Mau, in 2010.
Suzanne was well known for her involvement at the Geology lab at Delta College where she worked with many students over the years including class trips to Isle Royale National Park and participation in the Science Olympiad. Suzanne’s hobbies included sewing, knitting, reading, baking (especially rhubarb pies) and collecting rocks, minerals, and fossils. She was also very fond of her canine friends Buddy and Clover.

Obituary Preview: Martha (Marty) P. Fitzhugh, age 77, passed away peacefully on March 28 at Friendship Village in Kalamazoo, Michigan. Marty was born on February 27, 1947 to Marvin and Lorraine (Goldman) Puklin in Aurora, Illinois. She graduated from the University of Michigan with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1969, continuing on to complete her Master’s in Social Work in 1971. While at U of M she met the love of her life, Walter (Walt) Fitzhugh, on a ski trip with the Michigan Ski Club. They were married in 1971 and moved to Detroit for Walt to complete law school at Detroit College of Law, then to Bay City in 1974. Marty and Walt raised their two children in Bay City where Marty was a school social worker for the Bay City Public Schools. The family also lived in Midland before returning to Bay City.
Marty was dedicated to her local community, serving as a Bay County Commissioner, co-chairing the Library Fundraising committee, and serving on board the United Way and Delta College Board of Trustees. In 2002, she was honored as a Woman of Distinction by the Girl Scouts of Mitten Bay. Marty pursued a career change later in life, attending Thomas M. Cooley Law School and earning her Juris Doctorate in 1994, the same year her youngest child graduated from high school. Marty was especially proud of her law career, serving as Of Counsel to Darbee, Bosco, and Hammond, P.C. before being appointed as Bay County Corporation Counsel, where she worked from 1995 until her retirement in 2014.
Marty enjoyed boating and being around the water her whole life. From time with her parents and siblings on their family Chris-Craft on Lake Geneva to sailing, power boating, and water skiing with Walt and her children and Walt’s parents, Fred and Betty Fitzhugh at the family cottage on Torch Lake. She also enjoyed caring for, training, and competing with her dogs in obedience and agility competitions.
Surviving are her husband, Walt, her two children, Michael (Nicole) Fitzhugh of Richmond, CA, and Laurel (Charlie) Ofstein of Kalamazoo, MI; four grandchildren: Evan and Sadie Fitzhugh, Richmond, CA; Micah and Lucas Ofstein, Kalamazoo, MI; and her beloved dog, Eli. She was preceded in death by her parents, Lorraine and Marvin, and her siblings; Carol Weisberg and James Puklin.

He was born in Bay City on June 27, 1951, the son of the late James F. and Anna Zaidee (Bellinger) Cornelius. Paul graduated from Bay City Central High School and continued his education obtaining a Bachelor of Science Degree. He worked a variety of jobs, from a substitute teacher to quality control at Arizona Tea. Paul was proficient at Judo, acquiring his black belt and beyond, and was proud to teach his nieces, nephews and friends.
Surviving family include his brother, Mark Cornelius as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins, including his dear friend, Christine Rozewicz. He was preceded in death by his siblings, William Cornelius, Kay Miller, Beverly Reou and Jeffrey Cornelius.

Gary Majeske - March 26, 1942 - March 06, 2024

Obituary Preview: Gary Majeske passed away on March 6, 2024 following a brief illness. He was born to Ollie and Dorothy (Whitbrodt) Majeske, on March 26, 1942 in Bay City, Michigan, where he lived and worked his entire life. He was a 1960 graduate of Handy High School, then attended Bay City Junior College and was in the first class at Delta College before transferring to Central Michigan University where he earned his Bachelor of Science Degree in Education in 1965. He continued his education and received his Master of Arts Degree in 1969 and his Specialist in Education degree in 1971, and was certified in both elementary and secondary education.
Gary was passionate about his hometown and upon graduation from college, he returned to Bay City to teach and coach in the Bay City School System. He taught in the following areas: social studies, adult education (evening classes), elementary summer school and coached in high school tennis at Bay City Central High School. He also spent the last ten years of his career in education as an elementary and secondary administrator before retiring after twenty-eight years of service to the Bay City Public School District in 2003.
While teaching social studies, his interest in community service led him into politics. He was first elected (four terms) in 1972 as a member of the Bay County Board of Commissioners. As an elected County Commissioner, he served as member and/or chairman of various committees including Finance, Law Enforcement, Personnel, Planning, etc. Gary was elected to four two-year-terms which ran from 1972-1979. In 1979 he was elected the first Bay County Executive where he served in that capacity from 1979-1988. During that time, he was instrumental in initiating and bringing to fruition many improvements to the community. These improvements include but are not limited to: initiating the marina project that today is the bustling Liberty Harbor Marina, established the Household Hazardous Material Collection Program in Bay County, initiated and coordinated the Gypsy Moth Advisory Committee and developed financing and design for the new mosquito control facilities. Gary initiated the first scrap tire collection in Bay County and expanded programs to senior citizens in the community which include pneumonia shots, home delivered meals, more home health care aides, held the first Senior Olympics and consolidated meal sites which still serve today’s senior citizens.
As a civic leader Gary had many fond memories of city and county projects where he showed great skill and ability in bringing these governmental groups together. Among his most cherished memories however are his meetings with Presidents Ronald Regan and Bush one and two.
During his career Gary was active in many professional associations: International City Management Association (ICMA), Michigan Association of Counties (MAC), American Society for Public Administrators (ASPA), Michigan Association of County Administrative Officers, National Association of Counties, Michigan Municipal League, Member of Phi Delta Kappa and Central Michigan Alumni Association, Bay City Education (BCEA), Michigan Education Association (MEA), National Education Association (NEA), Michigan and National Association of School Administrators.
Gary was also active for years in his community and held numerous leadership positions as a member of the following organizations: Bay County Farm Breau, Bay County Crippled Children’s Society, American Red Cross, Bay City All-Saints Education Foundation and Saginaw Bay Yacht Club to name only a few of his commitments.
Gary’s faith in God was incredibly strong. He was a committed follower of the teachings of the Catholic Church. He was a faithful member of Holy Trinity (now Corpus Christi) where he served as usher for many decades.
Although Gary was very work oriented, he had many leisure-time activities that he enjoyed. He loved boating, skiing, playing poker, tennis, travel, reading, all sports and sporting events and he especially loved all University of Michigan sports, as well as the Spring Training Exhibition games of the Minnesota Twins and the Boston Red Sox in Fort Meyers, Florida where he and his wife, Connie, wintered since 2003.
He is survived by his devoted loving wife for 30 years Connie (Kossaras), his daughters; Carolyn DeSantis, Jennifer (Ralph) Leach, Amy (Dan) Wood, Jill and Ann Majeske, seven grandchildren; Roman and Maria DeSantis, Jack and Spencer Leach, Thomas, Tyler and Tessa Wood.
He was predeceased by his infant daughter, Lynn; his parents, Ollie and Dorothy Majeske; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Gus and Helen Kossaras; brother-in-law Walt Scherzer and many uncles, aunts and cousins.

He was born on January 31, 1942 in Bay City, the son of the late Arthur and Marjorie (Reid) Horn. Bruce was a veteran of the US Air Force, serving during the Vietnam era. He was a loyal employee of the Dow Chemical Co. for more than 30 years, where he worked as a Security and Safety Officer. Bruce was a loving husband, father, grandfather and brother, who will be missed by many. He married the love of his life, Lois Elaine Quintel on April 11, 1964, and she survives him just short of 60 years together. Bruce was an avid golfer and could be found on most local courses in town sharply dressed in one of his many golf polos and freshly pressed slacks. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing but especially loved spending time with his family. Bruce was a member of the Joppa Wenona Lodge No 315 F. & A.M. and the Scottish Rite Bodies of Michigan. He and Lois were also faithful members of Messiah Ev. Lutheran Church.
Surviving family include his wife, Lois Elaine Horn; sons, Michael Christopher Horn and Steven Todd Horn; grandchildren, Gabrielle “Gabi” Elise (fiancé, Charles Robillard) Horn and Christian Steven Horn; as well as nephew, Bryan (Kailee) Horn and their daughter, Zoey. Bruce was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Donald (Christine) Horn.
A memorial service will be at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 20, 2024 at the Penzien-Steele Funeral Home. The Rev. Timothy Jahn officiating. The family will greet friends on Tuesday from 12 noon until the time of the service. The time of fellowship will begin at 2:00 p.m. with a Masonic Service, followed by the funeral service and conclude with Military Honors provided under the auspices of the Bay Veterans Council and the US Air Force. Those desiring to make a memorial contribution are asked to please consider the American Cancer Society or Messiah Ev. Lutheran Church.

Allyse received an Associate Degree from Delta College. She was a member of Monitor Trinity Lutheran Church. She was involved in dancing and poms all of her lifetime and was a soccer player. Allyse was a volunteer for Americore in Midland. Allyse loved camping, her pets, Piper and Cheeze It, and going to concerts. She was deeply loved by her family and friends who loved her back.
She is survived by her parents Curtis P. Fiebke and Christine M. Fiebke. She also leaves a brother Spencer P. Fiebke, a sister Madison B. Fiebke, her grandmother Shirley Ann Fiebke, her grandfather Bernard Edward Dole and many aunts, uncles and cousins as well as Kathryn Lange and Mason Lange. A special thank you to her boyfriend Patrick Selix. She was preceded in death by her grandmother Judy A. Dole, her grandfather Paul F. Fiebke Jr., her aunt Gretl Fiebke and cousin Amy Reinig.
Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, February 20, 2024 at 11 a.m. at Monitor Trinity Lutheran Church. The Rev. Seth C. Kaiser will officiate. Perry was preceded in death by her kind and loving husband, Lynn V. Conway. Perry is survived by her daughter Melissa (Scott McIntyre) Beckrow, her brother John (Anne) Woodard and her children Joy Conway, Mark (Gail) Conway and Lynn Conway Jr. She is also survived by her husband Robert E. Hayhurst and his family and her grandchildren: Carolyn (Trent) Mason, Brandon (Vianey) Conway, Kevin (Megan) Conway, James (Alexis) Conway and Ian (Molly) Anthony, her great grandchildren, and a niece and nephew.
Perrian is lovingly known as “Miss Perry” by the over 20,000 students that have danced with the Perry Woodard School of Dance. Miss Perry started her dance studio at the age of 12 and the studio is proudly owned by Janae Kramer-Awad. Miss Janae carries on the legacy and traditions of Miss Perry and all she strived to achieve.
Perry’s additional accomplishments include being a Jazzercise Instructor, studying under the Father of Jazz, Gus Giordano, mastering tap dancing with Al Gilbert, achieving her Chechettici ballet mastery, and learning and perfecting Irish dance. Perry volunteered her time choreographing for local theaters and schools as well as the Miss Bay County Scholarship Pageant. Perry held Gregory Hines’ hand while doing the time step on the Chicago stage! Perry was also inducted into the Bay City Central Hall of Fame where she was honored to give the commencement speech that year AND received the key to the City of Bay City in May 2008 from Mayor Charles Brunner.
Perry was an amazing cook with an elaborate detail to theme, an avid walker and believed deeply in giving access to all to the arts. When Perry relaxed, it would include a glass of wine and time with her daughter, Melissa. Perry also enjoyed boat rides, the Tiki bar, dinners, Summer Sisters, Golf Group and a plethora of friends. Perry would get up and dance anytime the opportunity was given.
An incredible amount of gratitude is given to the staff of New Hope Bay and Cardinal Hospice for giving the support and care for Perry and her loved ones. There are not enough thanks for the friends and family that never left her side in sickness and in health. You are loved and appreciated beyond words.
Visitation will take place on Saturday March 9, 2024 from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm and 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm at Penzien Steele Funeral Home. Memory Sharing will be held at 6:30 pm. A private celebration of life will take place at a later date. Memorial contributions may be given to the Dementia Society, Spark! Artistic Mentorship Program or the Just 4 Kids Foundation.

Obituary Preview: Carole Johanna (Van Zale) Turner passed from death into eternal life on January 24, 2024, where she was welcomed by the waiting arms of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She was born in Bay City, Michigan on June 1, 1939, to George and Iva Van Zale. In 1961, she married A. William (Bill) Turner. They lived in multiple states throughout their marriage and active involvement in their local church was important to them. For the past 25 years she lived in South Carolina and Georgia where she resided near many of her children and grandchildren. For a brief time, she volunteered at Miracle Hill Ministries in Greenville, South Carolina which provides services to persons experiencing homelessness and/or addictions. This ministry was near and dear to her heart as she supported this ministry for the rest of her life.
Known for her delicious baked goods and pies with the flakiest of crusts, her heart for missions, her status as a prayer warrior, and her passion for spending time in God’s Word, she will be dearly missed by all who knew her. Carole’s family asks that she not be remembered by the sadness of her passing but be remembered instead for the blessed hope offered through her salvation by grace through faith and for the happiness that she brought to others.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Bill, her best friend in high school, Shelby Woods and dear brother-in-law, Dave Shewfelt. She is survived by her children, Joy (Andrew) Washburn, T.J. (Karin) Turner, George (Michelle) Turner, and Maxine Turner as well as her grandchildren, Tara (Kent) Martindale, Jared (Amelia) Turner, Susan Washburn, Johnny (Erica) Turner, Jana (Justin) Sandoval, Lauren (Walt) Hafner, Kyle (Julia) Turner, Mark (Rachael) Washburn, Corey Turner, and David (Mary) Turner. She has 19 great-grandchildren. In addition, she is survived by her sisters, Elaine Shewfelt, and Martha (Randy) Bright, brother-in laws, Jonathan (Gidget) Turner, and David Turner, along with many nieces and nephews.
The family celebrated the life of Carole Turner in a private service at Lebanon Baptist Church in Roswell, Georgia. A private family interment will be held in Bay City, Michigan.

Edna was an active member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Bay City for 65+ years. She was employed by Bay Abstract and Title/Superior Abstract and Title from high school until retirement. After retirement, she volunteered for the Economy Center in Bay City for many years.
Edna is survived by her two sons; Edward (Jane) Meyer of Rockford, Michigan and Walter (Alice) Meyer of Jefferson Hills, Pennsylvania. Her grandchildren; David (fiancé Lauren) Meyer of Grand Rapids, Michigan, Christina Meyer of Austin, Texas, and Anna Meyer of Jefferson Hills, Pennsylvania. Several nieces, nephews, cousins, sisters-in-law Betty Ittner and Valerie Meyer, along with caregivers Kerry Kalahar and Brenda Krystosek.
Edna was predeceased by her husband, Edward Meyer, brothers Edgar and Norman Ittner; sisters Esther Volz and Ruth Chapman.

Funeral and Committal services will be on Friday, January 26, 2024 at 12:00 p.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church. The Rev. Chris Garcia will officiate. Surviving family include her daughter, Alison (wife, Kendra) Cardinal; son, Marc Cardinal; grandson, Joshua (wife, Anna) Cardinal; granddaughter, Nicole (boyfriend, Andrew) Cardinal; two great-grandchildren, Rose and Theia as well as many nieces, nephews and friends. Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents; husband and sisters, Judy (Ed) Mueller, Jean (Richard) Roese and Susan (Joel) Tvardek.
