Gregory R. Jacoby-Loftis - May 15, 1978 - February 09, 2024

Departed: 02/09/2024 (Oakland)
Obituary Preview: Gregory (Greg) Robert Jacoby-Loftis was born to Gary and Sharon (Wolfe) Loftis on May 15, 1978, in Omaha, Nebraska. He passed away on February 9, 2024, at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha due to complications after surgery.
Greg grew up on his family’s farm between Oakland and Craig, Nebraska. He received his education at the Oakland-Craig public schools, Midland University, and Coastal Carolina University. He competed in high school football, track and field, wrestling, and Legion Baseball. Greg was part of an incredibly athletically gifted group of high school athletes, qualifying to compete in 4 state football state playoffs, two state wrestling tournaments, multiple track events, and state baseball. His team won the state football championship in 1995 and he earned a gold medal in the 4x800 meter relay in 1996. After high school, Greg played football and baseball at Midland University and attended Coastal Carolina University, leaving to follow his true passion- music.
Greg’s music career took him to New Jersey, New York, Connecticut, and many other places around the globe. He lived with reckless abandon, enduring the passion and pain of an artist looking to share their soul with others. Greg’s bands included Pedestrian, Iris Pattern, and Malpais. He connected with countless people through his music, including delivering a guitar to Mick Jagger. Exploring all New York offers a handsome young musician. He was also able to go on adventures around the globe, with some favorites being sailing in the Mediterranean, hiking in the mountains of Colorado and Poland, and traveling across Europe. Greg collected friends as easily as some of us collect books/trinkets and would extend his heart to anyone he thought he could help.
On August 5, 2021, he married his soulmate, Amy Jacoby, in Omaha, Nebraska. He was honored to become stepdad to Tyler Sanborn and a military veteran’s spouse. Jazlynn Kral and Breanna Wattier were like daughters to him. Greg had found a second passion, working in mental health during this time. He loved working as a Behavioral Health Technician and Peer Support Specialist. Greg was an active member of Northpoint Nebraska’s Alumni and in the fitness community. He saw those struggling to be noticed and was able to connect with skill and grace.
Left to mourn his passing is that incredible collection of family and friends he made throughout his life: his wife, Amy Jacoby-Loftis, stepson Tyler, and parents Gary and Sharon, sisters Melissa Florell (Clint), Megan Unwin (Henry), Sarah Gramke (Dan), nieces and nephews Brandt Florell (Margaret), Samuel Florell (Matty Hoskins), Ava Florell, Gavin Enstrom, Madison Enstrom, Milo Unwin, Jacob Unwin, Ashlynne Gramke, Logan Gramke, Genevieve Gramke, and Garrison Gramke, and dearest friends Anna Petri, Audrey Cervellero, Andy Jensen, and Lars Gallagher, along with many aunts, uncles, and cousins. His maternal grandparents, Robert and Genevieve Wolfe, and paternal grandparents, Robert and Veda Loftis, preceded him in death.
Visitation will be at Pelan Funeral Home in Oakland, Nebraska, on Sunday, February 18th, from 4 to 7 pm. The memorial service will be held at the Craig Presbyterian Church at 11 am Monday, February 19, with lunch to follow. Burial of the ashes will take place at 3 pm at the Craig Cemetery. Memorial gifts to the family will be designated at a later date. Please also honor Greg’s memory by working to improve the lives of those suffering from addiction and/or mental health issues.

Along with crop farming, Roger raised livestock – cattle and hogs and some occasional turkeys. In 1973, he was recognized as a “Farm Family of the Week”.
Roger was an active part of his community. He gave hours of time as he served on the Oakland-Craig School Board, Township Board, Church Council. Whenever there were community projects or events, Roger was there to lend a hand.
While Roger did love farming and community, his family was his priority. He could be seen at many school and sports events to watch his children and grandchildren. In his later years, Roger enjoyed collecting tractors, starting with several John Deere series. His interests expanded to include several Allis Chalmers series. This affinity for “orange” led him to establish the “Pumpkin Patch” in Craig.
