Obituary Preview: Rhonda Denise Jacobs Stiles, age 61, resident of Somerville, Tennessee, departed this life Wednesday afternoon, January 10, 2024 at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee.
Rhonda was born March 3, 1962 in Somerville, the daughter of the late George Richard Jacobs and Dollie Pearl Gann Jacobs. She received her education in the Memphis City School System and was employed at Wayne’s Grocery and Security Signals before her retirement. Rhonda was a member of Morris Chapel Baptist Church in Somerville where she enjoyed being involved in church activities and going on church trips.
Rhonda was a very social person who enjoyed traveling, being with her friends, shopping and playing games. She loved her family and her son, Shelton, was her life.
Ms. Stiles is survived by her son, Shelton Stiles, and her sister, Donna Bridgewater. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Paul Houston and her sister, Joyce Ann Jacobs.
A visitation for Ms. Stiles will be from 1 to 2 P.M. Monday, January 15, 2024 at the Peebles Main Funeral Chapel in Somerville. Funeral Services will be at 2 P.M. Monday, January 15, 2024 at the Peebles Main Funeral Chapel in Somerville with Bro. Kevin Treadway officiating. Interment will follow in Hood Cemetery in the Warren Community.

Virginia was born June 20, 1932 in Tennessee and was married January 6, 1988 to Garfield Isome “Buddy” Ragland who preceded her in death on April 1, 2010. Mrs. Ragland was employed as a cosmetologist and worked at Troxel in Moscow for many years before her retirement. She was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church in Moscow.
Mrs. Ragland is survived by her daughter, Ruby Sylvia Aubuchon; her son, Ronnie Franklin Joyner; her brother, Gordan William “Bill” Hardy; seven grandchildren, Michelle Schoolcraft, Vance Prewitt, Tara Prewitt, Melinda Prewitt, Clay Joyner, Christy McDonald and Nicole Earnest-Tice; ten great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her mother, Zelma Lorrine Hardy and two daughters, Clara Diane Janes who died August 5, 2010 and Tracy Virginia Leatherwood who died August 5, 1993.

Obituary Preview: Frances Conner Holley, age 87, resident of Somerville, Tennessee and wife of the late John M. Holley, Sr., departed this life Monday afternoon, January 8, 2024 at St. Francis Hospital in Bartlett, Tennessee.
Frances was born November 5, 1936 in Fayette County, Tennessee. She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph Otis Conner and Mattie Sue Robbins Conner. She graduated from Fayette County High School and was married January 4, 1958 to Mr. John M. Holley, Sr. who preceded her in death on November 6, 2023. Mrs. Holley was a former resident of the Memphis area before moving to Somerville in 1990.
Frances was employed as a bookkeeper and dispatcher for Tomsin Steel Processing, Harrison Manufacturing and Steepleton Tire before her retirement in 1998. She was of the Baptist faith and a member of Mt. Moriah Baptist Church in Whiteville, Tennessee. Frances was the treasurer at Northeast Fayette County Fire Department and she enjoyed fishing, traveling and having breakfast at The Hut in Somerville with her friends.
Mrs. Holley is survived by her daughter, Virginia “Ginger” Hughes (Ken Hughes) of Collierville, TN; her son, John M. Holley, Jr. (Christy Holley) of Somerville, TN; her brother, Carl Conner of Pulaski, TN; and four grandchildren, Holly Boice (Daniel Boice), Jacob Holley, Heather Hughes and Christa Holley.
Funeral Services for Mrs. Holley were held at 2 P.M. Thursday, January 11, 2024 at the Peebles Main Funeral Chapel in Somerville with Bro. David Reeves, pastor of Midway Baptist Church in Whiteville, officiating. Interment followed in Mt. Moriah Cemetery at Whiteville.
Those honored to serve as pallbearers were L.A. Rogers, Rex Rogers, David Atkinson, Curtis Black, Lynn Morris and Jeff Ferge. Honorary pallbearers were Ken Hughes and Jacob Holley.

Roberta was born January 13, 1939 in Collinsville, Mississippi, the daughter of the late Robert E. Boothe and Birdie Lou Dollar Boothe. She was a homemaker throughout her life that was famous for her sweet tea, and enjoyed cooking, going to the dollar store and Wal-Mart and caring for her family.
Mrs. Johnson is survived by her daughter, Susan Johnson Norwood (Jess); her son, David Johnson (Carrie); and four grandchildren, Devon Jewell (Kate), Mathias Johnson, Miles Norwood and Holland Norwood. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Julie Jewell and two sisters, JoAnne Boothe and Brenda Luke.

Obituary Preview: Joyce LaJuan Norton Tapp, age 85, resident of Somerville, Tennessee and wife of Paul Thomas “Tom” Tapp, departed this life Saturday morning, January 6, 2024 at her home.
Joyce was born March 25, 1938 in Middleton, Tennessee, the daughter of the late Otto and Ruth Norton. She graduated from Treadwell High School in Memphis and attended business school, later working in the accounting department at Sears-Roebuck. Joyce was married March 1, 1963 to Paul Thomas “Tom” Tapp and was a member of Oak Grove United Methodist Church.
Mrs. Tapp enjoyed sewing, gardening, canning and cooking for her family. She was known for her blueberry cheesecake and for being an immaculate housekeeper. Known as “Granny”, Joyce babysat all of her grandchildren and was a room mother at Fayette Academy in Somerville while her daughters were in school.
Mrs. Tapp is survived by her husband of almost 61 years, Tom Tapp of Somerville, TN; three daughters, Diane Jones (Billy) of Somerville, TN, Becky Baker (David) of Hickory Valley, TN and Janice Holland (Billy) of Somerville, TN; her son-in-law, Alan Boyer; her sister, Wanda Norton of Horn Lake, MS; seven grandchildren, Megan Jones, William Jones (Shelia), Rachel Jones, Cynthia Boyer, Laura Reeves (Brian), Ryan Wasson and Shawn Wasson; and two great-grandchildren, Kensley Lane and CJ Lane.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Gail Boyer and two sisters, Sadie Norton and Glenda Arrowsmith.
Graveside Services for Mrs. Tapp were held at 2 P.M. Wednesday, January 10, 2024 at Hebron Cemetery near Somerville with Ryan Pattat officiating.

Randy was born April 21, 1953 in Amory, Mississippi, the son of the late Kirby Patterson (Jimmie Lee Patterson) and Alderine Waycaster. He was a professional bird dog trainer for much of his life and an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan. Randy loved music and enjoyed fishing, shooting guns and playing poker with his family.
Mr. Patterson is survived by his daughter, Bridget King; his son, Vann Patterson (Jessica); four sisters, Becky Sanders (Ken), Sheila Sanders (Gary), Janice Sloan and Charlotte Crump; his brother, Robert Wardlaw (Becky); and four grandchildren, Payton King, Brianna King, Liam Bradley and Ean Patterson.

Elliott Wayne Lambert - August 27, 1932 - December 30, 2023

Obituary Preview: Elliott Wayne Lambert, 91, resident of Somerville Tennessee, former Mainer, Air Force Veteran and husband of Janie S. Lambert, departed this life on December 30, 2023 to be with his heavenly Father.
Elliott was born in Sangerville, Maine to the late Floyd and Doris Lambert. Elliott graduated high school in 1950 at Piscataquis Community High School (walking 3 miles, uphill, in the snow). He graduated from the University of Maine at Orono with a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration in 1954. Elliott loved to fly thanks to his lifelong friend Charlie Starbird and quickly went on to USAF National School of Aviation Cadets and was accepted into the Officer Candidate School in the United States Air Force. Elliott was active duty with the Air Force for 20 years and then was a reservist with the Memphis Air National Guard for an additional 13 years and a lifelong member of the Tennessee Air National Guard and served his country in the Vietnam war. During his time in Dallas, Texas, he met his darling, Janie Semmes and they married on May 13, 1967.
Elliott was known for his unparalleled work ethic. He started his early childhood years working in the woods with his father and worked as a Square Dance Caller during his college years. After his retirement from the Air Force, Elliott went on to purchase a Poultry Farm in Somerville, Tennessee and quickly learned that the poultry business was a ‘fowl job’. He was always thankful for his lifelong friendships with George Adams, Cathy Dandridge and Alex Moore for their support anytime, day or night with the challenges of the farm. Elliott worked for Peebles Fayette County Funeral Home for many years and enjoyed scaring his daughters saying that he “just touched a dead body.” After parting ways with the poultry business and funeral business, Elliott went on to start his stump grinding business called ‘Eager Beaver Stump Grinding’, ‘satisfaction guaranteed or double your stumps back’ and worked full-time until he was 88 years old.
Elliott will be fondly remembered for his commitment to Jesus Christ and was a member of the Somerville Church of Christ. He led his wife and 3 daughters to the Lord by being a kind, loving husband and Best Dad Ever. Elliott temporarily leaves behind his beloved wife of 56 years, Janie Lambert of Somerville, TN; his ‘favorite’ daughters Jenny Lambert Ashmore of Ellsworth, ME, Amy Lambert Ray of Fort Myers, FL and Sarah Lambert LaCour of Kenner, LA; his sons-in-law, Oliver Ray (Amy) and Stephen LaCour (Sarah); his grand-children, Quinten Elliott Daughtry (Amy); Rylee Ann Burns (Jenny); Logan Lambert LaCour and Olivia Jane LaCour (Sarah); and special friends Will and Kathy Tippit.  He is reunited with his parents, Floyd and Doris Lambert and his sister Maxine Lambert Morgan and many dear friends that passed before him.
Elliott’s beloved pallbearers include Quinten Elliott Daughtry, Logan Lambert LaCour, RL Owens, Bill Spears, Will Tippit and Ronnie Wright. Honorary pallbearers include Darrel Beard, Allen Birmingham, Shirley Chambers, David Compton, Tommie Sanders and Charles Tucker.

The Celebration of Elliott’s Life was held on Thursday, January 4, 2024 at 11 A.M. at the Somerville Church of Christ. Private Family burial with Military Honors followed in Cypress Memorial Gardens near Somerville.

Steven was born October 30, 1955 in Centralia, Illinois, the son of the late John Dale Mills and Marilyn Fern Telford Mills. He moved with family at an early age to Tennessee and graduated from Bartlett High School in 1973. He continued his education at Memphis State, receiving his bachelor's degree in 1982 and his master’s degree in 1985. Steve was self-employed in the information technology industry for many years and had lived in Shelby County on and off since 1972.
Mr. Mills is survived by three brothers, Douglas Mills (Belinda) of Slayden, MS, Jeffrey Mills (Pat) of Arlington, TN and Jack “Carl” Mills (Maria) of Memphis, TN and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Jay Mills.
Funeral Services for Mr. Mills were held at 1 P.M. Thursday, January 4, 2024 at the Peebles Main Funeral Chapel in Somerville.

Barbara was born January 1, 1933 in Memphis, the daughter of the late William Carl Morris and Margery Pearl Holiday Morris. She graduated from Fayette County High School and was married February 8, 1950 to Walker Lee Rhea who preceded her in death. Mrs. Rhea was a former resident of Somerville before moving to Moscow. She was a dedicated worker and was employed as a factory worker at Ripley Screen and Somerville Mills before her retirement.
Mrs. Rhea was a member of Morris Memorial Baptist Church in Moscow where she ran the nursery for 35 years. She helped at the Moscow Food Bank for many years and was a hard-working and spunky lady who was a caregiver for many people and animals including cats, dogs and horses.
Mrs. Rhea is survived by two sons, Mitchell Rhea and his wife, Karin and Mike Rhea and his wife, Laurie; her brother, Neal Morris; five grandchildren, Bill Rhea and his wife, Julie, Charlie Rhea, Angie Coyle, Cory Rhea and Mackenzie McKay; seventeen great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Billy Morris.
Funeral Services for Mrs. Rhea were held at 2 P.M. Saturday, December 30, 2023 at the Peebles Main Funeral Chapel in Somerville. Interment followed in Bethlehem Cemetery at Moscow.

Kenneth Harris Garrison - March 18, 1931 - December 23, 2023

Obituary Preview: Kenneth Harris Garrison, age 92, resident of Moscow, Tennessee and husband of the late Ola Beatrice Duffel Garrison, departed this life Saturday, December 23, 2023 at his home.
Kenneth was born March 18, 1931 in Joy, Arkansas to his parents, Irene Clay Garrison and Herman Garrison. He was a Navy Korean War Veteran and served from 1951 to 1953 until the war ended. He was married to his childhood sweetheart in 1950 to Ola Beatrice Duffel Garrison and they moved to Memphis. He was a cattle farmer for many years and started working for MLG&W in 1950 as a lineman, certified electrician and foreman, and later retired from the same company. He was a 60-year member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers and was an independent truck driver.
Mr. Garrison is survived by two daughters, Sandra Sparkman (Michael) and Phyllis Kelman (Dave); three grandchildren, Kenneth Scott Rhodes (Melissa), Kevin Sparkman (Sonya) and Amy Ladner (Wayne); his great-grandchildren, Brandon Rhodes, Clark Kelman (Hart), Gracie Sparkman, Belle Sparkman, Cooper Ladner, Paige Ladner, Dylan Cochran, Bam Cochran, Maci Rhodes, Abby Rhodes, Beatrice Rhodes, Gavin Rhodes, Burke Kelman and one great-grandchild due in January.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Ola Beatrice Duffel Garrison; his parents, Herman and Irene Garrison; his daughter, Jan Garrison Baker; two sisters, Louise Simpson and Wilma Andrews; two brothers, Garthel Garrison and Glen Garrison; and his grandson, Alexander George Everitt.
A visitation for Mr. Garrison will be from 1 to 2 P.M. Thursday, December 28, 2023 at the Peebles Main Funeral Chapel in Somerville. Funeral Services will be at 2 P.M. Obituary Preview: Phyllise Jane Hayden, age 71, resident of Whiteville, Tennessee and wife of Billy Hayden, departed this life Friday, December 22, 2023 at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee.
Mrs. Jane was born on August 6, 1952 in Covington, Tennessee, the daughter of the late Jesse “JC” Curry Gray and Verna Mae Conlee Gray. She received her education in the Fayette County School System and then began her career as a Tennessee State Highway Patrol Trooper. She was one of the first women in the state of Tennessee to become a trooper on the road. She later stepped away from patrolling the roads and became the Hearing Office Admin Judge for the Tennessee State Highway Patrol.
After over 30 years of service, she retired to begin her most honored position as Nana to her grandson, Spencer. He was her pride and joy. She became Nana to all of his friends and she was most excited when he met the love of his life, Jody. Being a part of his wedding this year was a highlight in her life.
Mrs. Jane was a member of the Arlington Assembly of God Church and enjoyed spending time with her family, doing crafts, sewing and cake decorating. She was an avid reader and also enjoyed trips to the Smoky Mountains with her sister.
Mrs. Jane is survived her husband of 53 years, Billy Hayden; her son, Shane Hayden and his wife, Misty; her grandson, Spencer and his wife, Jody; her sister, Janette Ashford and her husband, Mike; her brother, Billy Gray; as well as a host of nieces, nephews and fur grand babies, "SJ, Maverick and Sunny".
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Dorothy Mae McClinton and Mary McClinton; and her precious dog, Buddy.
Memorial Services for Mrs. Hayden were held at 2 P.M. Tuesday afternoon at the Peebles Main Funeral Chapel in Somerville with Bro. David Reeves, pastor of Midway Baptist Church in Whiteville, officiating.

Antonio "Tony" Mendez - June 26, 1921 - December 21, 2023

Obituary Preview: Antonio “Tony” Mendez, age 102, resident of Pflugerville, Texas and husband of the late Minnie Tapp Mendez, gained his Angel Wings on Thursday, December 21, 2023.
Tony was born June 26, 1921 in Ponce, Puerto Rico to Ambrosina Mendez Cancel (Victor) and Antonio F. Mendez Sr. He moved to New York where he lived until joining the United States Navy in 1942. He married the love of his life, Minnie Tapp Mendez, on April 22, 1944. Tony spent his days watching Westerns and he enjoyed woodworking and model airplanes. He was a remarkable man and will be missed by his family.
Tony and Minnie had two daughters, Paula Mendez and Anita Mendez Hibbs, both residing in Texas. He had six grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren plus one on the way. He is also survived by his sister, Alice Acosta (Manny); his brother-in-law, Tom Tapp (Joyce); and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Minnie, three brothers and three sisters.
Graveside Services with Military Honors for Mr. Mendez were held at 2 P.M. Friday, December 29, 2023 at Hebron Cemetery with Bro. Carl Doyle of Oakland, officiating.

Philip loved his family, especially his children, and was a "surrogate" father to many of their friends. He raised exotic birds and enjoyed buying, flipping and selling old cars. He was a fan of John Wayne and the westerns of his youth that made him a cowboy at heart.
Philip is survived by his partner of 15 years, Martha Smith; his daughter, Maggie Bowling; two sons, Matthew Bowling and Daniel Bowling (Rebecca); and two sisters, Janet Bowling and Angela Bowling. In addition to his parents, his sister, Carolyn Bowling, preceded him in death.

She was a lifelong resident of Somerville and was a teacher at Fayette Academy before her retirement in 1995. Carla was married May 25, 1974 to Jack Dawson and was a member of Williston Methodist Church.
Mrs. Dawson is survived by her husband of 49 years, Jack Dawson of Somerville, TN; her daughter, Jill Bryan (Jason) of Somerville, TN; her son, Layne Dawson (Jamie) of Somerville, TN; and four grandchildren, Dawson Bryan, Ainsley Bryan, Jackson Dawson and Cooper Dawson.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Jeri Jenkins and her brother, Michael Parrott.

Mrs. Simpson had been a resident of Memphis since 1969 and was employed as a bookkeeper for Binswanger Glass Company before her retirement. She was a homemaker throughout her life and a member of Bartlett Woods Church of Christ. She enjoyed reading, singing and fishing.
Mrs. Simpson is survived by two daughters, Janell McCorkle of Memphis, TN and Carolyn Simpson of Memphis, TN; her sister, Laveda Perdue of Searcy, AR; six grandchildren, eighteen great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Anita Gilbow and her granddaughter, Sarah French.

Obituary Preview: On December 6, 2023, our precious Hayley Hall took her first steps into Heaven. While our hearts are broken, we take solace in the fact that she has been made whole and complete in Jesus. How can we not celebrate that? Knowing that she is in no pain and is free from illness is such a comfort to all her family. Hayley spent her last hours on earth with her parents and her siblings and knew that she was loved beyond measure. She is now in Heaven running, dancing and doing all the things her earthly body never afforded her.
Even though Hayley never spoke a word on earth, she touched so many lives. Over the years, we have heard story after story confirming that. Her speech was through her eyes and her mannerisms. Her family understood her loud and clear. She vocalized some, often when everything around her was quiet, so everyone knew she was in the room.
Hayley, aged 28, of Williston, Tennessee, is survived by her parents, Sonya and Cory Wheat of Williston, TN, James and Trish Hall of Southaven, MS, her siblings, Alex Hall (Rae) of Eads, TN, Jaime Reilly (Sean) of Cordova, TN, Justin Wheat of Williston, TN and Dani Hall of Southaven, MS, grandparents, Maggie Williams of Olive Branch, MS, Gary and Janet Hall of Memphis, TN, Cathy Wright of Quinton, OK, David and Patty Wheat of Memphis, TN and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and extended family. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Donald Wright and Gordon Williams.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Sharon (Graber) Mast, and his four children, Gloria Mast, Whiteville, Tennessee, Julia Lapp and husband Joe, New Holland, Pennsylvania, Merlin Mast and wife Catherine (Miller), Bolivar, Tennessee, and Delores Mast, Whiteville, Tennessee. He was also blessed with ten grandchildren, Sean Lapp, Adrianna Lapp, Ashley Lapp, Allison Lapp, Jackson Mast, Alayna Lapp, Caroline Mast, Franklin Mast, Amarissa Lapp, and Emmalise Mast.
Lloyd was born on May 15, 1941, in Thomas, Oklahoma, to Noah and Elizabeth (Nisly) Mast. He was the youngest of eight children, Fannie Hershberger (Dave), Mary Yoder (Dan), Sadie Kajkowski (Stanley), Sylvia Parker (Victor), Verna Mast, Wilma Goran (Frank), and Elmer Mast (Mary Jane Yoder), all deceased. He is survived by one sister-in-law, Norma Mast.
At seven years old he moved with his family to Stuarts Draft, Virginia, where he spent the rest of his childhood. He accepted Christ as his Saviour in his youth and was baptized. He was a charter member of the Whiteville Mennonite Church until his death.
As a young man he spent his service as a conscientious objector at Hillcrest Nursing Home in Harrison, Arkansas.  Later he earned his Bachelor’s degree as an elementary education from Eastern Mennonite College in Harrisonburg, Virginia. He taught 8 years in Indiana and Ohio, and then moved his family to Whiteville, Tennessee in 1976. In Tennessee, he taught in Eastside Elementary and Jefferson Elementary before becoming a poultry farmer. He also owned and managed Backermann’s Bakery and Cheese Shoppe. After retiring in 2002, he volunteered and enjoyed new hobbies.
The family wishes to thank all those who showed love and care during their father’s life and death. Any memorials are requested to be given to Ukrainian and Russian war refugees via Whiteville Mennonite Church.
Visitations for Mr. Mast will be from 2 to 4 P.M. and from 5:30 to 8 P.M. Wednesday, November 29, 2023 at the Whiteville Mennonite Church. Funeral Services will be at 10 A.M. Thursday, November 30, 2023 at the Whiteville Mennonite Church. The officiating ministers will be Kevin Yoder, Paul Overholt, Lavern Eash and Ray Kauffman. Interment will follow in the Whiteville Mennonite Church Cemetery.

She was most recently a resident of Somerville and Oakland and was a devoted member of First Baptist Church of Somerville where she was in the Sanctuary Choir, Senior Adult Choir, Bell Choir and Community Bible Study. Fern loved her church and special times with her family.
Mrs. Puckett is survived by two daughters, Dianna Campbell (Rick) and Lisa Davies (Robert); three sons, James Puckett (Debi), Kevin Puckett (Beverly) and John Puckett (Linda); nine grandchildren, Matthew, Crystal, Dallas, Shannon, Eli, Evan, Nathan, Jacob and Jessie; and two great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Shirley Ziegler, Jean Ray and Joan Bockelman.
