James Ralph Reeds - November 23, 1934 - April 26, 2024

Departed: 04/26/2024 (Rockford)
Obituary Preview: James Ralph Reeds passed peacefully into eternity on April 26, 2024, at the age of 89. He was born on November 23, 1934, in Scottville, Michigan to J. Ralph and E. Pearl Reeds.
He joined the Army in 1954 and worked as a Morse Code Interceptor for the Army Security Agency, traveling to many European countries, including Germany, France and England.
James met Beverly in the parking lot at Oldsmobile in Lansing, where he was a purchasing agent, and she was a teletype operator. After three dates over Memorial weekend, he knew she was The One and asked her to marry him. Five months later they were wed on October 29, 1960; beginning a loving partnership that would endure for 63 years.
Wendy (Larry) Harr was born 11 months after, followed closely by Randy (Deena) Reeds and Christopher Reeds. James stressed the importance of family honor and integrity and led by example.
James enjoyed telling stories and imparting wisdom to his grandchildren: Jacob (Josephine) Reeds, Nathan (Brandi) Harr, McKenzie Reeds, Emily Harr, and Michael Reeds. His great-grandchildren were so special to him: Margo Reeds, Ellis Harr, Remington Harr, Arya Reeds, Mabel Reeds, and Jentri Harr. He loved watching them run around on the farm.
James loved to fish, particularly river fishing. He grew up fishing on the Pere Marquette in Scottville, bringing home fish for dinner even as a small boy.  James and Beverly took several trips into the lakes in Canada to vacation and fish. He also enjoyed flying and would take his Cessna to Ludington to have lunch and visit family.
James was a true entrepreneur; everything he enjoyed became a business opportunity. Starting with a carwash that the entire family helped operate, he then branched out to coin-operated carwashes and a gas station with an ice cream shop, all operating simultaneously. He and Beverly taught their children to work as a family team, instilling a work ethic that endured.  They then began manufacturing the cleaning solutions needed for car washes and other industries, built two strip malls and after selling those, settled down to farming. They raised sheep, llamas, goats, and camels over the years, as well as chickens and peacocks. James enjoyed his beekeeping operation; selling the honey within the local community. He loved watching the deer and turkeys by his ponds.
James made friends everywhere he went with his openness and ability to tell stories and share his wisdom. He was a good listener and enjoyed many hours at his favorite restaurants with his friends. A special thanks to everyone at The Peppermill in Rockford and Mr. Burger on Plainfield for the endless cups of coffee and companionship.
James is survived by his younger brother, William (Sherry) Reeds. He was preceded in death by his son Christopher as well as his parents and his older brother and sister-in-law Clare and Donna Reeds.
A Celebration of Life for James will be held on Saturday, June 15, 2024, from 1pm to 4pm at the family farm, 2550 11 Mile Rd. NE, Rockford, MI 49341.

Patricia Susan Burch - April 12, 1953 - April 15, 2024

Departed: 04/15/2024 (Rockford)
Obituary Preview: Patricia Susan Burch, age 71, of Pierson, Mich. (formerly Rockford, Mich.) passed away on Monday, April 15, 2024, at Trinity Health (St. Mary’s Hospital).
Patty, as she was known to her family and friends, was born on April 12, 1953, in Grand Rapids, Michigan to Robert and Norine Coe. She was a graduate of Mount Mercy Academy and received her degree from Aquinas College, both in Grand Rapids, where she studied bookkeeping and accountancy.
Patty married Charles Donald Burch on November 29, 1975, at St. Adalbert’s Catholic Church in Grand Rapids. Together, they made their home and raised their three boys in Rockford, Mich., where they became founding members of Our Lady of Consolation Catholic Church and School. From their “house on the hill” they watched Rockford grow and change. She was among the first women to be in the Jaycees, volunteered at the annual church bazaar, taught faith formation, and even cleaned funeral linens and purificators.
In 2023, Chuck and Patty finished building their dream home at the Burch family cottage at Big Whitefish Lake. They had recently completed the move to Pierson and were just settling into a new life with views of a near-perfect sunset over the lake.
Patty was a woman of intense faith and big love. In every room, within immediate reach, around her home and cottage was a rosary. While she worked in banks and retail stores, churches and adult foster care, she believed her real work was to be the best caretaker for her three children and eleven grandchildren. There is nothing she would not do for them and was happiest when she was literally surrounded by hugs from them. She wanted to see every graduation, every basketball game, every ballet, and every time her grandkids served at Mass.
She was among the greatest prayer warriors and believed in the power of prayer to heal our spiritual wounds. Patty’s devotion to Mary was pronounced in her daily life through recitation of the rosary. She understood Mary as a gift from Jesus to be the mother of us all, and in her life, Patty worked to be a mother-figure to so many.
Patty is survived by her husband, Chuck; her children, Brian and Angela Burch of Holland, Michigan, David and Julie Burch of Pinckney, Michigan, and Jeffrey and Jacqueline Burch of Plymouth, Michigan; her adored eleven grandchildren; sister, Kathy (Coe) Saladino; brothers Michael (Rene) Coe, James (Mary) Coe, and Robert (Karen) Coe, Jr.; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, April 19, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Consolation Catholic Church, 4865 11 Mile Rd NE, Rockford, MI 49341.   Friends and relatives may meet the family at Pederson Funeral Home, 127 N Monroe St., Rockford MI 49341 on Thursday, April 18, 2024, from 2:00-4:00 p.m. and 6:00-8:00 p.m., where a Rosary will be prayed at 7:30 p.m. Patty will lie in state one hour prior to Mass at the church. Interment will take place at Rockford Cemetery.
