Tariq Rasul Christopher Smith - July 09, 1992 - February 21, 2022

Departed: 02/21/2022 (Fayetteville)
Obituary Preview: Tariq Rasul Smith, age 29, passed away on February 21, 2022 in his apartment in Greenville, North Carolina after battling a lifelong illness of sickle cell disease.Tariq was born on July 9, 1992 in Spanish Town, Jamaica. He graduated from Excelsior High School in Kingston, Jamaica. Shortly after graduating, Tariq moved to Cameron, North Carolina, USA to live with his aunt Sandra Myers and her two daughters Safiya Myers and Sha’Air Hawkins. Sandra was happy to take him under her wings, and Safiya and Sha’Air loved having Tariq in their home. It wasn’t long before Tariq started calling his aunt Sandra “mom” and his cousins Safiya and Sha’Air “sis.” Tariq was very happy living in the States and would frequently attend family reunions in New York and New Jersey. He even spent his 21st birthday with Safiya in New York City where they celebrated his joyous birthday.
While living in North Carolina, Tariq studied accounting at University of North Carolina Greensboro. He loved it there and was very involved including being a member of the Transfer and Adult Student Union (TASU). He continued his education at a local community college where he proudly earned his associate’s degree while also working full-time. Tariq’s most recent job was providing customer service within the healthcare industry.
Another one of Tariq’s proudest moments in his life was in January 2021 where he became a citizen of the United States of America.
Tariq’s hobbies and joys in life included writing fantasy stories loosely based on his real-life family, drawing, listening to pop and soca music, anime, Korean drama, playing Magic cards, his favorite color blue, and most importantly spending time with family. He was affectionately known as the “fun bartender” during family gatherings and would often be found playing dominoes with the older men in the family. He loved being in social settings, and he took much pride in being Jamaican.
One of the greatest marks Tariq left in this world is all the hearts he touched. He had a really big heart and always wanted to help others. He was just so happy to be in others’ company. Tariq’s forever loving and forgiving heart was enough to brighten anyone’s day. He was known to always look at the brighter side of things, and even when life got hard, he maintained a positive attitude. Although being in Tariq’s presence was a gift in and of itself, Tariq’s ability to keenly observe others made him a phenomenal gift giver. He was happy to sit back and watch people to truly understand them and then give them thoughtful and meaningful gifts that he knew would improve their lives. Tariq also had a very contagious hearty laugh that would lighten up any room. Even his aunt Sandra’s friends were drawn to him and knew him to be her sweet adoring son. People just loved being in his presence.
Tariq’s biggest dream in life was to return to Jamaica and help strengthen its economy, which is what drew him to study accounting. He was good with numbers and knew the impact that personal financial empowerment could have on the citizens of Jamaica.
Tariq is survived by his mother, Janice Lee-Mitchell, his father, Carlton Smith, his younger brother, Amir Andrew Woolery, his grandmother, Peggy Lee, his aunt, Sandra Myers, his two cousins, Safiya Myers and Sha’Air Hawkins, and several other family members who loved him deeply.

Christine Alease Harris - December 25, 1962 - September 22, 2020

Departed: 09/22/2020 (Fayetteville)
Obituary Preview: Christine Alease Harris, affectionately known as Chrissy, was born on the morning of December 25, 1962 in Norfolk, Virginia to parents Alice Faye Jefferson and Gerald Johnson, Sr. On the evening of September 22, 2020, God whispered her name and ushered her into His heavenly realm.
Christine was a 1981 class graduate of Green Run High School in Virginia Beach, Virginia; she then attended Norfolk State University in Norfolk, Virginia. While attending college, Christine met the love of her life, Staff Sergeant, United States Air force, William R. Harris in November 1984. Thereafter, Christine chose to leave college and decided to serve her country by joining the U.S. Air force in June 1985 and was stationed at Andrews Airforce Base in Maryland. On October 17, 1985, Christine was joined in holy matrimony to her lifelong sweetheart, William R. Harris, of 35 years. To this union was born two daughters Chanel Harris and Cierra Harris, both of whom she dearly loved and raised in admonition of the Lord.
The journey of the U.S. Air Force took the Harris family to live in Suitland, Maryland, Okinawa Japan, Brandon, Florida and lastly, Fayetteville, North Carolina. After honorably discharging from the military, Christine transitioned her career into civil service where she devoted 30 years of dedication and hard work. Throughout the years, she worked her way up to become an Information Specialist, Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) Privacy Officer, at the United States Army Forces Command (FORCOM) headquartered in Fort Bragg, North Carolina. Christine’s Husband and daughters remember her as a brilliant, kind, gentle, patient and driven woman who inspired them to excellence and encouraged them to pursue their goals. Christine was also a faithful servant of Christ and her radiant smile is deeply missed. She worked diligently on several ministries at the Country Club Drive Church of Christ in Fayetteville, North Carolina for over 25 years, to include the Church of Christ Ladies Lectureship-Retreat as the Awards/Scholarship Coordinator. Christine was lovingly called "The Voice of the Retreat.” Although her beautiful voice and persona that captivated their audiences for years has been silenced, we will never forget the warmth of her smile and the uplifting feel of her words. Christine’s favorite bible scripture was Philippians 4:13, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”
Christine leaves to cherish her memory and is survived by her loving husband William R. Harris, her children Chanel Harris (Silver Spring, MD); Cierra Harris (Charlotte, NC); two Shih Tzus, Fendi and Chubbs of Fayetteville, NC; her parents Alice Faye Jefferson and Oscar Jefferson of Virginia Beach, VA; Two sisters, Karen Dunlap and Sabrina Lucky of Virginia Beach, VA; Three Brothers, Larry Marshall (Jennifer) of Virginia Beach, VA; Steven Marshall of Virginia Beach, VA and Sean Marshall (Cecilia) of Fleming Island, FL; Father-in-Love George Harris of Brandon, FL, brother-in-love, Jeffrey Harris of Detroit MI; two sisters-in-love, Mila White (Corzell) of St. Augustine, FL and Dana Hill (Jimmy) of Fleming Island, FL; special friends Charles and Tracia Geter of Fayetteville, NC; three Godchildren and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Preceded in her death; father, Gerald Johnson, Sr.; mother-in love Charlotte Harris; nephew Calen White and brother in-love Anthony Harris.
