Obituary Preview: Karl Kay Browning, 77, of Sutton, passed away in the comfort of his own home and surrounded by loving family on Sunday, September 20, 2020.
He was born in Sutton on April 28, 1943, a son of the late Dairrell Browning and Lorraine Perrine Browning.
On March 22, 1986, he married Ruth Elaine Hutchison. Karl and Ruth have shared the last 34 wonderful years of marriage.
Karl is survived by his wife, Ruth Browning of Sutton; two children: Karla Jean Long of North Carolina, and Pamela Kay Mace and husband, Michael, of Sutton; three step-children: Philip Clark Cutlip and wife, Joyce, of Lewisburg, Cynthia Elaine Bowders and husband, Alan, of Gettysburg, PA, and Lisa Louise Gillfillan and husband, Jay, of Sutton; three grandchildren: Alicia Pishnery, Matthew Jenkins, and Joshua Porto; five step-grandchildren: Jordan Mace, Matthew Cutlip, Tyler Cutlip, Lindsey Casto, and Dalton Duffield; sixteen great-grandchildren; two siblings: Mary Jane Stewart and husband, Stephenson, of Sutton, and Dairrell “Junie” Browning Jr. and wife, Sally, of Gassaway; and several nieces and nephews.
Karl graduated from Sutton High School in 1961. He worked in the Coal Mines for many years and was Methodist by faith. Karl loved spending time outdoors and especially enjoyed hunting on Ware Mountain. He also liked to cast his reel in the Elk River or Sutton Lake and searching for Ginseng in the beautiful mountains of West Virginia. Karl was able to fix anything and became everyone’s “go-to guy”. More than anything, Karl treasured his time spent with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Karl’s request for cremation has been honored at Pat Boyle Funeral Home’s On-Site Crematory. A Private Celebration of Life Service will be held at a later date.

He was born in Weston on September 1, 1953, a son of the late Wayne F. and Lucy Lawson Dunham.
Richard’s sense of humor will be remembered by one son, Chad Eric Dunham of Weston; one grandson, Derek Wayne Dunham of Weston; one sister, Diana K. Neely and husband, Matt, of Jane Lew; and his best K-9 friend, Miss Ellie.
After graduating from Lewis County High School in 1971, Richard began working as a machinist for National Machine Company in Nutter Fort. When they closed he worked for KSD Diesel where he was employed for over 20 years before retirement. Richard was a bit of a car enthusiast and enjoyed spending time working on his ’78 Ford Mustang. Family was Richard’s number one priority. He treasured every moment spent with his son, Chad, and grandson, Derek. Richard even became best friends with Chad’s dog, Miss Ellie, and it was a rare occasion to see one without the other.
Family and friends will gather at Pat Boyle Funeral Home and Cremation Service located at 144 Hackers Creek Rd. in Jane Lew from 4-6 p.m. on Saturday, September 19, 2020. Funeral Services will begin at 6 p.m. on Saturday in the Pat Boyle Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Bob Hoover officiating. Following services, Richard’s request for cremation will be honored at Pat Boyle Funeral Home’s On-Site Crematory.

Obituary Preview: John Henry McWhorter, 72, of Lost Creek, climbed the stairway to Heaven on Wednesday July 8, 2020. He passed in the comfort of his own home and surrounded by loving family.
He was born in Seoul, Korea, on February 14, 1948, a son of the late John Parrish McWhorter and Eve Defoe Shaeffer McWhorter. In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by one sister, Margaret Barrineau; and his beloved English Bulldog, Zoey.
Forever cherishing their memories of John are three children: Julie Ann McWhorter and husband, Tim Groves, of Columbia, MO, Jessica McWhorter of Clarksburg, and Eliza Baker and husband, Allen, of Lost Creek; four grandchildren: Estella, Maurice, Mia, and Khamber; one step-grandchild, Malik; and one step-great grandchild, Mercie; two siblings: Hana Barrineau of Hawaii, and Mary Jo McCormick of California; and several nieces and nephews.
John was fortunate his father was military and growing up he was able to travel and visit many places around the world. He received his high school diploma from South Charleston and completed his undergraduate degree at the University of California, Berkeley. John then received his doctorate from West Virginia University Medical School and a Master Degree in Public Health from the University of Pittsburgh. He spent a large part of his spare time researching medical history, general science, herbal medicine, and public health issues. Several of his research articles were published in the WV Family Medical Journal. John was also a previous member of the Medical Societies in Harrison and Lewis County. His thirst for knowledge was never quenched and he was always exploring new fields of study. For example, some of John’s other interests were astronomy, dream interpretation, poetry, and therapeutic traits of playing the bagpipes. John attended Duck Creek Mission Church in Lost Creek and retired from William R. Sharpe Hospital after 20 years of employment. He also had a special place in his heart for dogs and would often rescue strays.
John’s request for cremation has been honored at Pat Boyle Funeral Home’s On-Site Crematory. A Private inurnment will be held at McWhorter Cemetery at a later date.
