Who typically writes an obituary?

The responsibility of writing an obituary usually falls on the family members or close friends of the deceased. In some cases, a funeral home or crematorium may offer assistance with writing the obituary.

What information should be included in an obituary?

A typical obituary includes the deceased person's full name, age, date of birth and death, place of residence, occupation, education, military service (if applicable), hobbies, interests, and surviving family members. It may also include details about the funeral or memorial service.

How long should an obituary be?

If you notice errors in an already-published obituary, contact the publication or platform immediately to request corrections. They may be able to make changes online or issue a correction in a subsequent edition.

What is a living obituary?

Publishing an obituary can serve as a therapeutic outlet for grieving families, provide closure for friends and acquaintances, and even help preserve family history for future generations.

Can I use humor in an obituary?
