Obituary Preview: Ramona Maxine Raffety passed away on Monday, May 20, 2024.
Ramona was born on Wednesday, July 6, 1938 in Roff, OK. She attended and graduated Kendrick High School in 1957. After high school, she worked a few jobs until landing at Stroud School Cafeteria, serving in many capacities, but retiring after 36 years as the Manager of the Cafeteria. Her love of children was so big and she touched so many of their lives. On way she did so was through her writing, Ramona loved to write. She wrote children’s stories, poems and for community papers, such as Stroud American and The New Era. She also entered into many writing contests including three years in Sac & Fox writing contest placing 2nd then 1st the other two years. She was involved in many community activities as well, she was in the band Boosters even serving as president for many years, she was a PTA officer and a Sunday School teacher at Stroud Christian Church. Ramona was so kind and thought the best of everyone and always put others first. She was an encourager and a teacher, turning everyday tasks into a lesson. Her compassion and thoughtfulness will be missed along with her unforgettable smile.
Ramona was preceded in death by Harold Raffety; her mother Modell Hall; her brother Johnny Vandever and sister Iva Ash.
Ramona is survived by her daughter Janice Griebel – Edwards and husband Roy; daughter Nancy Smart and husband Jewel; son Bobby Raffety and wife Barbara; her grandchildren Jeremy Smart, Stephanie Williams and husband Shannon, Christopher Smart, Jonathan Griebel and wife Jennifer, Alicia Mitchell and husband Billy; and Patrick Phelps and wife Kimberly; her great grandchildren Madison, Lacy, McKenna, Carlee, Tanner, Kayden and Hadley Williams, Luke Smart, Jocelynn Mitchell and Addilynn and Griffin Griebel; her brother Howard Vandever and wife Polly; her sisters Sophia Walker and Linda Matheson; she is also survived by many extended family and friends.
A funeral service will be Thursday, May 23, 2024 at 2:00PM at Stroud Christian Church with burial to follow at Stroud Cemetery. There will be a visitation at Parks Brothers Funeral Service Chapel on Wednesday, May 22, 2024 from Noon – 8pm with family receiving friends from 6-8pm. Obituary Preview: Earnest Lee Redford departed this life on Wednesday, May 8, 2024 surrounded by family at his home.
Earnest was born on Friday, December 1, 1950, to Harold Redford and Bobbie (Hudson) Redford in Stroud, OK. Earnest lived his younger life in Kansas, graduating from Wellington High School in Wellington, Kansas in 1968. After high school, he attended Kansas University for a bit then decided to join the US Navy. During that time, he met and married Kathy Klotz on March 5, 1971 in Vallejo, CA. The Navy had them in a few other places until moving back to Stroud after he served 8 years. When he got back to Stroud he became a Deputy with the Lincoln County Sheriff’s office. He served in that capacity for 18 years and then retired. In Earnest’s free time he enjoyed roping and getting to ride horses. He also enjoyed other outdoor activities like hunting, fishing and camping. Earnest was a fair good man, and his caring loving spirit will be missed.
Earnest is preceded by his mother Bobbie Redford; his father Henry Redford and stepmom Audry; and brothers Ivan and Randy Redford.
Earnest leaves behind his wife of 53 years Kathy Redford; son Jerry Redford; grandchildren Aunisty and William Redford; brother James Redford and wife Buffy; sister Barbara Whitham and husband Gene; sister-in-laws Marsha Redford and Allison Redford; as well as many extended family and a host of friends.

Carole was born on Saturday, September 7, 1946 in Stigler, OK to Harry and Ruth (Snow) Flatt. She graduated Stroud High School in 1964. Carole was a former member of Beta Sigma Phi for many years. After high school, Carole went to cosmetology school and did hair for many years. She then went to work as a customer service representative for State Farm Insurance with Kent Clovis until her retirement. After her retirement, the time allowed her to focus on her favorite hobby, her family. Carole loved her family and loved to take care of them. She also loved nurturing her pets. Carole’s kindness and loving nature touched many hearts and will be greatly missed.
Carole was preceded in death by her husband Johnnie L. Thompson and her parents Harry and Ruth Flatt; and her sister-in-law Margie L. Flatt.
Carole is survived by her son Billy Gosnell; her daughter Bobbi Parcell and husband Chris; her brother Donnie Flatt and wife DoraLee; her grandchildren Phillip Parcell and wife Amy, Chelsea Knoch and husband Taylor, Caitlyn Hicks and husband Brayden, and Brittany Gosnell and Quinton Poullard; her great grandchildren Dylan and Brookelynn Gosnell, Madelyn and Slaydon Knoch, Brendyn Poullard, and Harrison, Berklee, and Beckett Parcell; her special friends Carl and Dianne Barnes; she is also survived by her nieces, extended family and friends.

She loved Thomas Kincaid because he painted the light and oh how she loved the light. She practiced random acts of kindness and never let the toughness of life harden her. She was funny. She was sassy. She was witty. She was a bright light and a joy to know. She will live on in our hearts and each memory will be cherished.

Kenneth was born to Ben and Opal (Hill) Sanders. He has been a resident of Stroud throughout his whole life. Kenneth was a faithful member and Elder of the Stroud Christian Church. Kenneth served his country as a member of the US Navy. He was also a Mason and a member of the American Legion. For many years he was a carpenter and bus driver. In Kenneth’s free time he loved to fish, hunt and golf.
Kenneth is preceded in death by his wife Pat Sanders, granddaughter Brandi Shoemake; parents Ben and Opal Sanders and sisters Ruby Sanders and Wanda Bierman.
Left to treasure his memory is his son Chip Sanders; daughter Tena Caton and husband Curtis; granddaughter Ashley Caton; great grandson David Caton; great granddaughter Sophie Caton; sisters Ruth Ann Ward and Carolyn Sue Newnam; as well as many nieces, nephews and several friends.

Ralph Jr. Jones - April 25, 1942 - March 20, 2024

Obituary Preview: Ralph Jr. Jones of Stroud, Oklahoma, passed away on March 20, 2024, due to complications from a respiratory condition. Ralph was born April 25, 1942, in Carnegie, Oklahoma to Ralph Leonard Jones and Belva Effie (Adkisson) Jones.
Ralph attended Stroud public schools. He was a long time truck driver working for several companies including Miller Truck Lines. After his driving career he worked as the Chief of Security for the Sac and Fox Nation until retirement. Ralph married Sandra Jones on April 18, 1975 and would have celebrated their 49th anniversary this year. He was a devoted father to Chad and Mark Jones and Steve and Kim Gilbert. Ralph and Sandra resided in Stroud, Oklahoma. Ralph was an outdoorsman who enjoyed coon and deer hunting, fishing and trapping. He loved country music and enjoyed swing dancing by doing the “Jonesy Shovel,” his “patented” dance move. Ralph was an Oklahoma Sooner fan as was evident by the year-round OU light display on the roof of their home. He was an avid gardener and poker player. Ralph also enjoyed a fun game of golf with friends. He would greet everyone with a hug and never met a stranger. His family and grandchildren were the highlights of his life. No visit was ever long enough and Ralph carried on the family tradition of saying goodbye with the question, “What’s your hurry?” Everyone will cherish their fond memories of “Grandpappy”.
The family would like to thank the staff at Rural Wellness Stroud Medical Center and Luminos Hospice for taking excellent care of Ralph in his last few weeks of life.
We will celebrate Ralph’s life with a visitation on Monday, March 25, 2024 at Parks Brothers Chapel in Stroud, Oklahoma. Family will be in attendance at the viewing from 6-8 p.m. The funeral will be held at the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Stroud, Oklahoma on Tuesday, March 26, 2024 at 10 a.m. He will be laid to rest at Stroud Cemetery following the funeral.
Ralph is survived by his wife Sandra L. Jones, son Michael Chad Jones (Robyn) of Decatur, TX; Mark Randal Jones (Kristy) of Stroud, OK; Steven Douglas Gilbert of Bristow, OK (Erin); and Kimberly Diane Gilbert of Bristow, OK; grandchildren Stephanie (Jones) Sullaway (Patrick) of Ellington, CT; Adrianna (Jones) Lyons (Jack) of Tallahassee, FL; Eric Gilbert (Katlyn) of Tulsa, OK; Scott Gilbert of Dallas, TX; Mary Gilbert of Paris, TX; Becca Keefer of College Station, TX; Molly Keefer of Decatur, TX; great grandchildren Brayden Sullaway, Austin Sullaway, Liam Gilbert and Elizabeth Gilbert, sister Barbara (Jones) Quandel (Ivan); uncle Albert Adkisson and numerous nieces and nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Belva Jones, sister Pat (Jones) Miller, and his best friend John Waller as well as other extended relatives.

Myron Jay Freiburger - January 24, 1946 - March 06, 2024

Obituary Preview: Myron Jay Freiburger, 78, passed away at his home in Stroud, Oklahoma on Wednesday, March 6, 2024.
Myron was born on January 24, 1946, to Henry William and Betty June (Wisterman) Freiburger in Hillman, Michigan. He was born, raised, and attended school in Michigan and was 1 of 7 siblings. Myron served our country in the United States Army and was a veteran of the Vietnam War.
Myron married Pamela Jean Hrymecki in May of 1967. They moved to Stroud in 2016 to be closer to their children. Myron and Pamela celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in May of 2017, and she preceded him in death a month later in June of 2017.
Myron worked on the assembly line for General Motors and retired in late 2000 after 30 plus years. He enjoyed playing cards, antique and classic cars, and watching western shows on tv. He also collected coins and had a knife collection.
Myron was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Betty Freiburger; his wife of 50 years, Pamela Freiburger; two brothers, Lyle Wisterman and Francis Freiburger; and a great-grandson, Kizer Boyd.
Myron is survived by his daughters, Kim Cells and her husband Ron Cells, and Melissa Babb and her companion, James Bell Jr.; his son, Myron Freiburger, Jr.; a sister, Gloria Harding and her husband, Harry Harding; Brothers, Arthur Freiburger and his wife, Chris Czyzyk-Freiburger, Clyde Freiburger and his wife Christine Freiburger, and Richard Freiburger and his wife, Brenda Freiburger; grandchildren, Ashley Cells-Colclasure and her husband Brandon Colclasure, Jake Cells, Carlie Boyd and her husband Nolan Boyd, Makayla Bell, and Cody Bell; great-grandchildren, Jake Cells Jr., Atalie Boyd, Boaz Boyd, Jovie Boyd, and Phoebe Boyd; a sister-in-law, Virginia Freiburger; as well as a host of other family members and friends.
Myron’s family will be planning a memorial on the family property back in Hillman, Michigan, later this year. Date to be determined, and once determined, will be sent out via a Facebook post.

Obituary Preview: Martella Darlene Gann passed away on Saturday, March 2, 2024 at her home surrounded by family.
Darlene was born on Thursday, August 10, 1939 in Stroud, OK to Virgil and Maxine (Howell) Holland. She graduated Stroud High School in 1957. Darlene was a waitress and cook at a couple of local restaurants and was one of the best. People would wait to sit in her section. Darlene was a busy mom of four girls and taught them many things but especially how to cook, food was definitely her love language. She loved to cook for people in town and had a servant’s heart. In her free time, Darlene enjoyed going to the horse races, going to the casino and playing bingo. She was always ready to go jump in the car and go, especially with her sisters. If you knew Darlene, you knew that if she was watching tv sports were on, no matter what sport it was. Darlene was a member of Maranatha Christian Center. Her faith and love in the Lord was her top priority and she always wanted to make sure her family and anyone else she knew were being fed the word of God. She will be greatly missed.
Darlene was preceded in death by her parents Virgil and Maxine Holland; her daughter Darla Clark; her brother Johnny Holland; her sister Jackie Grisham; and her brother-in-law Dennis Tuttle.
Darlene is survived by her daughters Cindy Hickman and husband Danny, Tamie Newell and husband Tim, Rhonda Franklin and husband Terry; her grandchildren Randy Bradley and wife Misty, Eric Bradley and wife Erin, Weston Newell and wife EmiLee, Shane Newell and wife Caitlin, David Rodriguez and wife Trinie, Jay-R Rodriquez, Stephenie Gann, Mandie Rackley, Michael Clark and wife Christi and JJ Clark; 22 great grandchildren; her son-in-law Mike Clark; and her sisters Novalene Tuttle and Sue Wilborn and husband Larry; she is also survived by many extended family and friends.
A funeral service will be Thursday, March 7, 2024 at 10:00AM at Maranatha Christian Center, Stroud, OK with Pastor Randy Ethridge officiating, burial to follow at Stroud Cemetery. Albert Lee Ring - April 05, 1936 - February 27, 2024

Obituary Preview: Albert Lee Ring was born in Muskogee, Oklahoma on April 5, 1936 to Burt Russell Ring and Opal Mildred (King) Ring. He joined one brother, Jerry, who was four years older than him. Growing up, he lived all over the state of Oklahoma but spent the last two years of his high school career in Stroud, graduating from there in 1954. Shortly after high school Albert joined the Army and served nine years. For the majority of that time he was stationed in Anchorage, Alaska. During his time in the Army he also served as the band leader. He had a deep love for music. He was eventually transferred to Fort Ord, California and joined a jazz band as a trombone player. In 1965 he met Nola Alice Goodson on a blind date. She invited him over for a pot roast and they were inseparable after that. Together, they raised one daughter, Brenda Anne Monett who gave them four grandchildren. After moving to Oklahoma in 1981, Al started working for the Oklahoma Turnpike Authority and retired from there in 1995. Years later, Albert worked several years for the Sac and Fox Nation as a security guard. He enjoyed antiquing with Nola, Golfing, Sooner football, his riding mower and there was not a project around the house he could not complete. If you were looking for a good laugh, he had an arsenal of jokes. He also had an ornery streak a mile long!
He spent a blissful 58 years with Nola, who was truly his soul mate. Albert peacefully departed this world February 27, 2024. He is preceded in death by his father Burt Ring, his mother Opal Ring and his grandson Douglas Lee Byrd Jr.
Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Nola Ring of the home; his daughter Brenda Anne Monett of Stroud, his granddaughter Julia Day and her husband Kevin Day of Stroud; granddaughter Jennifer Arvizu and boyfriend Randy Wright of Stroud; his brother Jerry Ring of Stroud; and four great grandchildren; Luke Day and wife Kailea, Lane Day, Diego Arvizu and Olivia Arvizu.

Tommie was born on Monday, March 8, 1943 in Kendrick, OK to Mearle and Thelma (Vickers) Blakley. Tommie and her family stayed around the Lincoln County area for many years. She attended and graduated Kendrick High School in 1961. She worked for Stroud Nursing Home as an aide for few years, but her greatest job was being at home and taking care of her family. Some of her favorite hobbies include catching a good yard sale, finding a good thrift store, dancing on Friday nights at the senior center and playing games especially dice. Tommie also enjoyed quilting, making all her grandbabies quilts. She also really liked to take pictures, often snapping pictures of her family. Tommie was so kind and thought the best of everyone and always put others first, her compassion, thoughtfulness and hugs will be missed.
Tommie was preceded in death by her parents Mearle and Thelma Blakley; husband Larry Webb; grandson Nate Webb; and sisters Fern McGhee, Phyllis Cook and Caron Blakley.
Tommie is survived by her son William “Bill” Chowning and wife Shelia; her daughter Julia Wilson and husband Kevin; her sisters Ivola Dowdy, Sharon Turner, Virginia Crook and husband Robert, and Pat Burton; her grandchildren Bridget, Cassie, Whitney, Randy, Jaci, Blake, Anthony and Traci; her great grandchildren Noah, Eli, Bristol, Cohan, Serenity, Stacey, Ryder, Travon, AprilRayn, Aliya, an Madison; she is also survived by many extended family and friends.

Carol Jo Brown Bradley Smith - December 05, 1938 - February 17, 2024

Obituary Preview: Carol Jo Brown Bradley Smith passed away on Saturday, February 17, 2024 in Simpsonville, SC.
Carol was born on Monday, December 5, 1938 in Lincoln County, OK to Lawrence E and Juanita Brown. Carol and her family moved to Cushing as a young child where she attended and graduated high school in 1956. In March of 1957, she married Marvin Ray Bradley. They had two children together. They were married until his passing in 2000. While her children were in school she volunteered with PTA and Girl and Cub Scouts. Carol was also Voting Precinct Inspector and a substitute teacher for Cushing Public Schools for several years. Starting in June 1986, Carol worked as a secretary for Oklahoma State University in the Department of Animal Sciences; she also served on the OSU Staff Advisory Council. During her time there she received the Staff Advisory Council Distinguished Service Award. Carol retired in January 2002, and after retirement she was the co-leader of Cushing Community Food Bank. In April of 2001, Carol married Charles Wilmer Smith. They were married until his passing in 2012. Carol was a longtime member of First Baptist Church Cushing. In 2019, she moved to Piedmont, SC to be near her children. While living there she attended Trinity United Methodist Church in Laurens, SC and Northside United Methodist Church in Greenville, SC to support her son-in-law’s pastoral ministry. In her free time, Carol enjoyed gardening, traveling and reading. Carol was such a sweet, gentle, and giving woman. Her kind soul will be greatly missed.

Carol is survived by her daughter Janna Carol Bradley Harder and husband Anthony “Tony” of Piedmont, SC; her grandchildren Jessica Rae Harder Evans and husband Josh of Piedmont, SC, Katelyn Jo Harder Luna and husband Jonathan of Pelzer, SC, Laura Carol Harder of Orlando, FL, Ashley Nadine Harder Davis and husband Matt of Tahlequah, OK, Randal “Randy” George Bradley and wife Misty of Edmond, OK, Eric Marvin Bradley and wife Erin of Stroud, OK, Kaylie Joann Bradley Brown and husband Stephen of Tulsa, OK and Steven LaRue Bradley of Edmond, OK; 16 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren; she is also survived by many extended family and friends.

Obituary Preview: George Conrad Markert, 94, of Stroud, OK, died February 13, 2024.
G. Conrad Markert MD was born October 17, 1929 in Muskogee to George Emil Markert and Emma Phillips. Dr. Markert graduated from Muskogee Central High School in 1947 and attended Oklahoma Baptist University on a track scholarship. While attending OBU, Dr. Markert met his first wife Jayne King and they eloped in 1949. Dr. Markert graduated from OBU with a degree in biology. He received his Doctor of Medicine degree from Oklahoma University Medical School in 1960 and interned in general medicine at Hillcrest Medical Center in Tulsa. In 1961 Dr. Markert began his medical practice in Anadarko and was a consulting physician for the Riverside Indian School. In 1964 he entered into partnership with medical school classmate William I. Jones of Stroud. Dr. Markert was also a consulting physician for area nursing homes and the coroner for many years. A member of the First Baptist Church of Stroud, he was enrolled in the Cherokee Nation of Oklahoma and was a Mason. Dr. Markert enjoyed reading and collecting books, especially Native American culture and military history. He served in the Oklahoma National Guard starting in the 1960s and attained the rank of Lt. Colonel. After the death of his first wife, Dr. Markert married LaDonna Garner RN and continued practicing medicine at the Stroud Clinic until six weeks before his death.
He was preceded in death by his first wife Edna Jayne King, his son John Conrad Markert, daughter Constance Jayne Markert-Weiss.
Dr. Markert is survived by his second wife LaDonna Markert; daughter Jennifer Alison Markert of Chicago; sons: Dr. Karl Eric Markert and wife Barbara of Tulsa and Kim David Markert and husband Michael Wofsey of Boston; grandchildren: First Lt. Conrad Wheeler Markert of Fort Campbell and Joy Markert of Philadelphia; step daughters Lacey Walters of Chandler and Lauren Marx and husband Caleb and their children Thomas Marx and Gwendolyn Marx all of Edmond; as well as extended family and a host of friends.

Together they raised a family and owned and operated B&C Paving Company. Clessie helped in every way with the business, even running the roller. Clessie absolutely loved being a mother and excelled at it. To her, family was the biggest blessing. Clessie loved animals and never met one that didn’t become a pet. She loved to garden and can. Clessie was always faithful to God and to her the Bible was her most prized reading.
Clessie was preceded in death by her parents Burt and Bena; husband Buck; infant son Raymond Willingham; son Bob Willingham; brothers Donald and JD Friend; and sister Jo Davis.

Debra and Terry had a love for children. Debra absolutely loved being a mother and excelled at it. To her family was the biggest blessing. Debra was always willing to help anyone in any way she could. She was a loving wife, amazing mother, sweet grandmother, wonderful sister and awesome friend. Her positive spirit will be missed.
Debra was preceded in death by her mother Kathryn Hurst and her granddaughter Arayah Autry.

Obituary Preview: Phil Everal Bly was born on June 24, 1951 in Guthrie, Oklahoma and peacefully departed this world on February 4, 2024. Phil’s life brought him two beautiful daughters, Laurie Bly and Erin Mathes, as well as a wonderful stepson Jason Martin.
Together with his wife Cindy, they enjoyed 32 years of watching their family grow. Family was the most important thing to Phil and he was blessed with a big one. Three children, eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren loved each minute that was spent with Papa Phil, not to mention the tall tales and pearls of wisdom along the way.
Phil was proceeded in death by his parents, Olen Bly and Betty Mizell, as well as a sister Cindi Rutter.
In addition to his wife, Cindy, survivors include his daughter Laurie Bly of Stroud, Erin Mathes and her husband David of Davenport, and Jason Martin and his wife Sara of Chandler. Grandchildren include Kathrine Reamy and her husband Rocky of Davenport, Cody Bales of Davenport, Michael Miller and his wife Alyssa of Stroud, Matthew Miller and his wife Jennifer of Davenport, Nick Mathes of Davenport, as well as David, Andy and Crosby Martin of Chandler. Great-grandchildren include Adley Reamy, Magnolia and Maverick Miller, and Colton Miller.
Phil is also survived by a sister, Betina Richardson of Glenpool, as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
A lifetime of oilfield work and being a cattleman filled most of Phil’s days leading up to his retirement three years ago. Since then, Phil enjoyed spending most of his time enjoying family and getting to be part of all of the activities that go along with it. Phil was a good man and undoubtedly will be missed by many.
A memorial service will be held at the First Baptist Church in Davenport, Oklahoma on Friday, February 9, 2024 at 10:00 AM.

Obituary Preview: Cledell Alexander Woody Sr, was born October 7, 1941 in Stroud, Oklahoma to Cleveland Woody and Artice Lyons Woody. He was the first born of 12 children. At an early age he professed his faith in Jesus Christ and joined the Jesus First Baptist Church of Stroud, Oklahoma
He attended Stroud public schools from elementary to high school, graduating with the Class of 1960. He enjoyed sports and was a member of the Stroud basketball, football, track and field team.
Cledell met his soulmate, Gloria Patton and they were married in 1961. They lived in Oklahoma City and were married 31 years. To this union three children were born, Francheska Woody (preceded him in death), Felicia Woody and Cledell Woody II.
He worked 18 years at Suburban Newspaper as a Press Operator.
In 1992, Cledell moved back to his hometown of Stroud and reunited with old friends, and found companionship with longtime friend, Sheila Beaird.
Cledell’s favorite times were spent fishing and he will be remembered by his family and friends as the perfect fisherman.
Cledell is preceded in death by his parents Cleveland and Artice Woody; sisters Connie Woody, Cora Story, Carrie Tubbs and Clorett Youngblood, Clariece Woody and Cleolla Howard; brothers: Cleveland Jr., Curtis James, Calvin, Cecil and Column Woody.
He leave to cherish his memory daughter Felicia Woody; son Cledell Woody II both of Oklahoma City; sister Carolyn Washington of Wichita, Kansas; two brothers Pastor Claude T. Woody (Loretta) of Spencer, Oklahoma and Reverend Conway Woody (Nina) of Wichita, Kansas; grandchildren Marqucio (Artisha), Marquinez, Ollicia, Gloricia and Cledell Woody III and Brendon Galbert; great grandchildren Shandalyn Nash, Shyla and Maquico Woody Jr; great great grandchild Malachi Griffith; and a host of devoted nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Donald Andrew Banta - September 15, 1932 - December 30, 2023

Obituary Preview: Donald Andrew Banta was born in Wetumka, Oklahoma on September 15, 1932. He peacefully departed this life on December 30, 2023, at Stroud Nursing Home in Stroud, Oklahoma.
Don was one of 7 children born to Joseph and Lelia Banta. He attended Wetumka Public Schools and graduated high school in 1950. After graduation, he began working on the pipeline, where he met his wife of 64 years, Paula, in Burrton, Kansas. The two were married on July 21, 1952, in Holdenville, Oklahoma. Shortly after, Don was drafted into the United States Army, where he served two years as a corporal in Fort Hood, Texas.
After his time in the service, they moved to Burrton, Kansas, where they owned the local newspaper for a short period. Around 1958, they relocated to Neodesha, Kansas, where they continued to grow their family. In 1970, The Banta family made their final home in Stroud, Oklahoma, where Don worked at the Stroud American Newspaper until his retirement.
During Don’s free time, he loved being involved in anything softball or baseball related. He spent many years coaching and umpiring. He loved attending any events for his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Don loved spending time camping and fishing, although he wasn’t the best at it. Don was well known in town as “the man in the overalls” who could be found walking up and down main street. He was also known to everyone as “Daddy” or “Gramps”.
Don was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Lelia, wife, Paula, daughter, Barbara Anson, and granddaughter, Wendi Jo Wright.
He is survived by four children, Donald E. and Rita Banta of Neodesha, Kansas, Lelia and husband John Byrd of Stroud, Jodi and husband David Glisson of Kendrick, and Winston (Dub) Banta of Oklahoma City. Two sisters, Freda Morrison of Wewoka, Oklahoma and LaDean Mangrum of Wetumka, Oklahoma. Nine grandchildren, Don and Jennie Banta of Topeka, Kansas, Kelli and Tim Powell of South Coffeyville, Oklahoma, Stacy and Aaron Kolb of Neodesha, Kansas, Jeannie Johnson and Rick Anson of Tulsa, Crystal Collins of Davis, John Byrd Jr. of Stroud, Davi Jo and Sean O’Donnell of Stroud. 18 great-grandchildren, Sol, Kaleb and Danyelle, Caitlyn, Ace, Jax, Nathan and Cassie, Hunter, Trevor, Gage, Kaylee, Kelsey and Thomas, Blake and Jobey, Kameron, Keelie, Christian, McKenna and Luke, Laci, and Liam. 5 great-great-grandchildren, Zachary, Kysin, Zane, Paisley, and Everlee Jo. Along with numerous nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.

Stephen "Steve" K. Bivin - December 13, 1940 - December 20, 2023

Obituary Preview: Stephen “Steve” Keeth Bivin was born in Cleveland, Oklahoma on December 13, 1940. After a short battle with cancer, he departed this life on December 20, 2023, in Drumright to spend eternity in heaven. Steve was one of four sons born to J.C. and Lurene (Rose) Bivin. He attended eleven years of school in Cleveland, Oklahoma until his father’s job relocated the family to Drumright in 1958 where Steve graduated from high school. After graduation, he attended Oklahoma State University serving in the ROTC and earning a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture, with a focus in
Horticulture. After receiving his degree, he worked for his father for one year before joining the United States Navy in 1965, retiring in 1987 as a U.S. Naval Commander.
Steve met his wife of 50 years, Julie VanDeLinder in Sallisaw and were later married on November 17, 1973 forming a beautiful example of what a Godly marriage should be. From this marriage came their greatest accomplishments, their two sons Jeremy and Ryan. On top of raising two wonderful sons, Steve and Julie took on many business adventures. From 1977 to 1982 Steve was the Northeast Regional Manager for the Division of Oklahoma State Parks. From 1982 until 1992 they owned and operated an Intermediate Care Facility in Idabel until moving to Stroud to take on a new adventure of owning the Best Western Motel and Julie’s Restaurant.
Steve was an active and lifetime member of the American Legion and at the time of his death was serving as Vice-Commander of the Stroud American Legion. He was a member of the Davenport Lions Club and recently received his 50-year perfect attendance pin. During his life Steve was active in the Boy Scouts of America, one step away from becoming an Eagle Scout himself, and had the joy of helping his sons earn the rank of Eagle Scout. Throughout his lifetime Steve enjoyed being part of many organizations such as the National Rifle Association, the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Steve and Julie were proud members of the Happy O.K. Wanderers motorcoach club, making lifetime friends and memories. After retirement, for more than 15 years they explored the globe with their many friends and family.
Steve was a devout Christian and was a member of First Baptist Church in Davenport. He was grateful to be able to give back to others and knew it was God’s grace that enabled him to do so. Steve and Julie were generous with many charities and organizations, returning to others the blessings God had bestowed upon them.
In November, Steve and Julie’s friends and family came together to celebrate their 50 years of love. The Bivin’s had many life-long friends and family which was evident by their attendance at the celebration, many who traveled great distances to be a part of the special day. Steve and Julie felt the love bestowed upon them that day and it was truly a blessing. Steve was still talking about the wonderful party until his death. Steve embodied the heart of a true American. He loved God, his family, and his community. He adored Julie and always wanted her by his side. As a father, Steve felt an immense sense of pride and accomplishment in seeing his sons, Jeremy and Ryan, choose career paths dedicated to serving others. Steve admired Jeremy’s decision to become a fireman and the bravery and selflessness required to protect and save lives. Ryan’s choice to become an educator brought joy and fulfillment to Steve’s heart. Seeing his son making a positive impact on young minds and shaping the future generations brought Steve great pride. He was an amazing Pappy to his grandchildren. He took great joy in witnessing their accomplishments and was always proud to brag about them. Whether it was their academic achievements, artistic talents, or sport victories, Steve never missed an
opportunity to celebrate and share their successes with others. Steve embraced his role as a proud father and adoring Pappy, creating lasting memories and instilling in them a sense of confidence and assurance.
Steve was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Phil Bivin of Mountain Home, Arkansas.
He is survived by his wife, Julie, of the home, two sons, Jeremy and wife Lori of Stroud and Ryan and wife Lindsay of Sand Springs. Two brothers, David and his wife Josa of Jerusalem, Israel, and Stan and his wife Suzie of Ponca City and one sister-in-law Martha Bivin of Mountain Home, Arkansas. Brother-in-law Bill and Patty VanDeLinder of Langley, Oklahoma and sister-in-law Lynn and Ron Yowell of Bentonville, Arkansas. Grandchildren, Jacey Bivin, twins Kaley and Baley Bivin of Stroud, Blaze  Bivin of Alva, Rae and Drew Bivin of Sand Springs, Holly Beth Barrow and Jake Muret of Stroud. Hank and Elizabeth Lau, along with their children, Taylor and Boston, were also considered part of Steve’s family. Taylor and Boston also referred to him as “Pappy.” As well as many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Steve will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His legacy of love, kindness and unwavering faith in God will continue to touch the lives of his family and friends for generations to come.

Carl was the son of Ira and Ella (Wilson) Robertson. At the age of 17, Carl went to Korea and proudly served his country in the United States Army. Carl married Evelyn Sanders in Welling, OK on March 29, 1962. Carl was a Stroud resident since 1993 and lived in Depew, OK for 28 years prior to that. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Depew, OK as well as member of Stroud’s American Legion. Carl worked in the aerospace industry for 29 years for MCDonnell Douglas in aircraft assembly. Carl was an avid OU Sooners fan, if he wasn’t watching the Sooners he could be found reading or watching westerns. Carl was a God-fearing man who loved to tell his family and friends about Jesus. He was a great dad and grandpa who will be dearly missed.
Carl was preceded in death by his wife Evelyn; his parents, one brother and three sisters.
Survivors include son Glen Robertson and wife Lisa of Stroud; daughter LaDonna Czarnecki and husband David of Lewisville, TX; daughter Letha Robertson of Chandler; brother Merle Roberston and wife Bonnie of Depew, OK; four grandchildren Lacrisha Dudley, Kristen Mayberry, Marshall Robertson, and Brittany Collado, seven great grandchildren and many extended family and friends.

Donnie was born to Noah and Winnie (Pitts) Reed on February 22, 1943 in Depew, OK. Donnie was the owner of Salt Creek Bait Shop and the Stroud Pawn. He was an extremely hard worker. He had a love of horses and turned that love into his work. Donnie did everything from racing, training, and shoeing horses. He enjoyed being outdoors doing things like hunting and fishing. Donnie also lead the way in bringing South African Boer Goats here, even having some famous and well known goats. Donnie was a well loved and respected man; a tough man but a great protector and a great father and grandfather. He will undoubtedly be deeply missed.
Donnie is preceded in death by his wife Elizabeth Reed; parents Noah and Winnie Reed; and brother Darrell Reed.

Obituary Preview: Forrest "Frosty" Whitmore, of Milfay, Oklahoma, passed away on Friday, November 17, 2023 at the age of 88. Frosty was born on October 4, 1935 in Milfay, Oklahoma. He was the son of Forrest and Maggie Gertrude (Fisher) Whitmore. Frosty was a 1954 graduate of Milfay High School. After high school, he went on to serve his country with the Oklahoma National Guard for eight years. Frosty married Betty Ruth Smith at the First Church of God in Bristow in 1959. The couple made their home at the family farm in Milfay. Together they had three children. Frosty was a dedicated farmer. He had a passion for farming until he was called to serve his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ by preaching in several churches across Oklahoma, where he helped lead many to Christ. Upon completion of his preaching career, Frosty and Betty returned to the family farm, where they were proud to watch their children take over the family farming. Katherine was born January 18, 1932 in Elk City, OK to Clyde and Margaret Pullen. Katherine moved to Davis when she was four years old. She graduated from Davis High School in 1950. Katherine married John R. Thornton on July 26, 1948 in Gainesville, TX. Out of that marriage they had 3 children, Danny, Richard and Belinda.
Katherine loved fashion and interior design. She read magazines cover to cover religiously. She never wanted to miss out on a new trend or not be in the know.
Katherine valued her friendships. She had many lifelong girlfriends. She enjoyed hosting theme parties for them and would spend weeks planning them.
Katherine was preceded in death by her husband John R. Thornton; parents Clyde and Margaret Pullen; and sisters Joy Martin and Sue Pullen.
Katherine is survived by her son Danny Thornton and wife Jane; her son Richard Thornton and wife Gayle; her daughter Belinda Lamb and husband Don; grandchildren Jennifer Thornton and partner Cameron Rapp, Bryce Thornton and wife Gina, Ashley Meacham and husband Garrett, Cody Thornton, Sarah Carnes and husband Brett; and great grandchildren Brett Thornton and wife Kayla, Cooper Thornton, Zoey and Lily Meacham, Haddie and Hazel Thornton and Presley Pearl Carnes; along with many extended family and friends.
Katherine’s love of life, love of family, and all things beautiful will be missed.
A funeral service will be Monday, November 20, 2023 at 10:30am at Stroud Parks Brothers Funeral Service, Stroud, OK. A committal service will be at 2:00pm at Green Hill Cemetery in Davis, OK.
