Eileen Mae Fitzpatrick - September 21, 1945 - May 15, 2024

Departed: 05/15/2024 (Maspeth)
Obituary Preview: Eileen Mae Fitzpatrick, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away on May 15th, 2024, in Okeechobee, Florida. She was born on September 21st, 1945, in New York to loving parents who instilled in her the values of hard work and kindness. Eileen lived a full and vibrant life that touched the hearts of all those around her. Her spunky personality and unwavering determination made her an inspiration to many. Eileen was a successful businesswoman who excelled in everything she put her mind to. Eileen's greatest joy came from being a grandmother. She poured endless love into her grandchildren and took immense pride in watching them grow into individuals. She proudly spoke of their accomplishments to anyone she met. In addition to being an exceptional matriarch within her family unit, Eileen had an adventurous spirit that led her on many travels throughout her lifetime. Eileen enjoyed spending much of her free time outside, and one of her favorite hobbies was gardening, where her green thumb could seemingly encourage even the daintiest of plants to grow. She also enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, whether shopping or going on short adventures.
Eileen is survived by her husband, Bernard; daughter, Christina; son, Brian; grandchildren Madison, Berkeley, Harry; great-grandchild, Brooks; and brother, William (Anne).
The loss of Eileen leaves behind an irreplaceable void that can never truly be filled again. We take comfort in knowing that she lives on through the legacy she left behind and the memories we hold close to our hearts. Who typically writes an obituary?

The task of writing an obituary often falls to family members or close friends of the deceased. Funeral homes or mortuaries may also offer assistance in crafting an obituary.

How long should an obituary be?

The length of an obituary can vary depending on the publication or online platform. Generally, it should be concise and to the point, ranging from a few sentences to a short paragraph.

Are there any specific guidelines for writing an obituary for someone who was young or died suddenly?

Sensitivity and compassion are key when writing an obituary for someone who died young or unexpectedly. Focus on celebrating their life and achievements, rather than dwelling on the circumstances of their passing.

Can I include charitable donations or memorial information in an obituary?

Absolutely! Many people choose to include details about preferred charities or memorial funds in lieu of flowers. This can be a meaningful way to honor the deceased and continue their legacy.

How do I handle sensitive information in an obituary?

When dealing with sensitive topics like cause of death or personal struggles, exercise discretion and tact. Consider consulting with family members or close friends before including such information.

Can I write an obituary for someone who was not well-known or did not have many relatives?

Absolutely! An obituary can be a powerful way to acknowledge and celebrate anyone's life, regardless of their social status or connections.

Are there any cultural or religious considerations when writing an obituary?

Certain cultures or religions may have specific customs or traditions surrounding death announcements. Be respectful of these differences and tailor your approach accordingly.

How long are obituaries typically kept online?

The duration that an online obituary remains available varies depending on the platform or publication. Some may keep them archived indefinitely, while others may remove them after a certain period.

Can I reprint an obituary from another source?

If you're considering reprinting an obituary from another source, ensure you have permission from the original author or publication. Always give proper credit and acknowledgement.

What if I'm unsure about what to include in an obituary?

Drafting an obituary can be overwhelming. Don't hesitate to reach out to funeral homes, mortuaries, or online resources for guidance and support.

Can I create a digital archive of my loved one's life story?

How do I cope with grief while writing an obituary?

Taking on the task of writing an obituary can be emotionally challenging. Be kind to yourself, take breaks when needed, and consider seeking support from loved ones or professionals if necessary.

What if I'm struggling to find the right words for an obituary?

You're not alone! Writing an obituary can be daunting. Take your time, reflect on fond memories, and try to capture the essence of your loved one's personality and spirit.
