Donald Michael Young - February 02, 1953 - April 15, 2022

Departed: 04/15/2022 (Orwell)
Obituary Preview: Donald Michael Young (“Mike” aka “Muskie Mike” or “Big Mike”) was born on February 2, 1953, and passed away, at home with loved ones, after battling cancer on April 15, 2022. He was 69 years old. Mike is survived by his wife of five years, Carol Young. Mike and his first wife, Lynn Young, also raised three surviving children:  Jessica (Matt) Urchek of Mecca, Jennifer (Zack) Stevens of Columbus and Joe Young of Jackson, Ohio. Mike is survived by his four grandchildren, Claire, Cole and Case Urchek and Chloe Stevens. He is also survived by his brother, Jim Young of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and three sisters, Gale Hughes of Johnston, Sally Kobel of Mecca and Barb (Barry) Preston of Austintown, Ohio along with several nieces and nephews. Mike will join both parents, brother Joe Young, nephew Bill Jones and brother-in-law, Walter Hughes, who preceded him in death. We are certain they shared a toast and a few good stories upon Mike’s arrival. A man of few words, when Mike spoke, he commanded others to listen. Mike was proud of his three children and their accomplishments. He taught his children the value of hard work, earning respect, lending a helping hand and creating independence. Mike had a passion for the quiet outdoors. He found his peace hunting in the woods, sometimes in solitude but often accompanied by his good friends. After, Mike and his buddies would trade stories at the bar. Mike was independent, entrepreneurial and well-read. He always knew the answer. He was a skilled and talented craftsman, and his best work provided shelter for his family. After years with the railroad, Mike dedicated his time to building residential homes and commercial buildings with the utmost care and precision, always taking extraordinary pride in his work. At Mike’s request, we welcome you to celebrate the life of Mike Young at Carol’s Creekside Inn this Summer. Mike’s friends and family are encouraged to attend the party, which will be announced at a later date, in lieu of formal services. Why are obituaries important?

Obituaries serve as a way to inform friends, family, and community members of a person's passing, allowing them to pay their respects and offer condolences. They also provide a lasting tribute to the deceased, preserving their memory and legacy.

Who typically writes an obituary?

The responsibility of writing an obituary usually falls on the family members or close friends of the deceased. In some cases, a funeral home or mortuary may assist with writing the obituary.

What information should be included in an obituary?

A typical obituary includes the person's full name, age, date of birth and death, place of residence, occupation, education, military service, hobbies, and surviving family members. It may also include information about funeral services, memorial donations, and other relevant details.

How long should an obituary be?

The length of an obituary can vary depending on the publication and the individual's life story. Generally, it should be concise and to the point, ranging from a few sentences to a few paragraphs.

How do I submit an obituary to a newspaper or online platform?

The submission process varies depending on the publication or platform. You can usually find guidelines on their website or by contacting their customer service department directly.

Is there a cost associated with publishing an obituary?
