Douglas G. Griffin, Jr. - June 12, 1942 - May 08, 2024

Departed: 05/08/2024 (Oyster Bay)
Obituary Preview: Douglas Griffin Jr., a man of boundless creativity, unwavering determination, and profound love for his family, passed away peacefully at his home on May 8, 2024, surrounded by his loved ones. Born on June 12, 1942, in New York City to immigrant parents, Doug Griffin Sr. from Cornwall, England, and Amalia Horvath of Budapest, Hungary, Doug was raised on the Lattingtown estate of the Baker family.
From his upbringing alongside the Long Island Sound, Doug developed a lifelong passion for sailing, fishing, and all things nautical, believing fervently in the healing powers of saltwater. Educated at St. Dominic’s elementary school and High School, Doug briefly attended college at Dayton before venturing into the workforce, with Gruman. However, it was his love for boats and his innovative spirit that led him down a new
path. Transitioning into boat design and construction, Doug founded his own company, specializing in the creation of unique houseboats, including the distinctive round boat that graced Cold Spring Harbor. Later, he expanded his expertise into the realm of remodeling and restoration work, leaving his mark on many historic estates and homes in the area. His clients appreciated his imaginative, intuitive design and his meticulous attention to detail.
A true craftsman and mentor, Doug believed strongly in the value of skilled trades, passing on his knowledge to others and providing opportunities for those eager to learn. He was a man of intellect and ingenuity, excelling in mathematics, geometry, and physics, yet always grounded in the belief that success could be found through hard work and dedication.
In 1963, Doug married the love of his life, Kathy, whom he had met during his high school years. Together, they celebrated 60 years of marriage and welcomed four awesome children into the world: Felicia, Lisa, Doug, and Dani. Devoted to their Catholic faith, Doug and Kathy actively participated in their parish community, volunteering and sharing their wisdom and guiding others through pre-Cana sessions. Doug cherished time spent with family, whether it be on the beach, traveling in their motorhome, singing to 70’s tunes, visiting museums, playing games or simply enjoying each other’s company at home. His love knew no bounds, extending to his 10 beloved grandchildren, Griffin, Thomas, Alice, Morgan, Emma, Ryan, Bradey, Maggie, Peter, Joseph, whom he adored and took great pride in.
Despite facing adversity following a stroke in 1995, Doug remained resolute in his determination to persevere. Though his disability forced him to retire from his construction business, he continued to work tirelessly as a caretaker and property manager, demonstrating unwavering strength and resilience. His unwavering spirit, coupled with his infectious smile, sense of humor, and genuine warmth, endeared him to all who knew him. While he was a man of few words, he conveyed so much.
In the quiet moments of reflection, Doug will be remembered as a loving husband, devoted father, and cherished Pop-pop. His legacy of resilience, kindness, and love will forever live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to have known him.
Doug is survived by his loving wife, Kathy; his children, Felicia Sperry (Christopher), Lisa Lattomus (Thomas), Douglas Griffin, III (Sheila), Danielle (Bradley); his grandchildren, Griffin (Molly), Thomas, Alice, Morgan, Emma, Ryan, Bradley, Maggie, Peter and Joseph: and many other family and friends.

Monica Riordan Kulis - June 08, 1959 - May 02, 2024

Departed: 05/02/2024 (Oyster Bay)
Obituary Preview: We are heartbroken to share that Monica Riordan Kulis of Locust Valley, NY passed away on May 2, 2024 at the age of 64. She was the beloved wife of Charles, loving mother of Christopher and Hannah, cherished daughter of Elfrieda and the late Jerome Riordan, and dear sister of Barbara Beale, Patricia Eggers (Dave), and Joannne Riordan. She is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
The name Monica has multiple meanings, including in "couselor" in latin Latin, and "unique" in Greek.
Counsel she did. Monica spent her life working as a social worker, helping people cope with problems in their everyday lives. She began her career at Elmhurst Hospital where she worked in the Adult men';s psychiatric division, before moving to the New York City Department of Education. There, she worked with children of all ages who had either developmental disabilities or severe behavioral issues.
Monica's desire to help others extended beyond just her career. Throughout her life, she was an active and passionate member of the Oyster Bay community. Monica served as the troop leader for Girl Scout Troop 206 for 12 years, guiding young women to develop confidence in themselves while improving the world around them. In her free time, she volunteered at Oyste rBay's beloved Waterfront Center and served on the board of the Oyster Bay Library. She even founded and served as president of an investment club for women in the community.
Like her name suggests, Monica was also unique with a wide array of passions and hobbies. She could climb rocks in Yosemite National Park and sail boats in the Caribbean. But she could also make beautiful pieces of pottery or her own delicious, experimental flavors of ice cream. She was extremely adventurous, traveling to places like Croatia, Fiji, Iceland, and more. When home, she was an avid tennis player who was always up for a game, set, or match.
Like everything she faced in life, Monica met her breast cancer diagnosis with unwavering resilience. For three and a half years, Monica endured innumerable treatments with horrific side effects, four grueling surgeries — including three in her brain — and the emotional weight of confronting her mortality. Yet, Monica shared with very few people all she'd experienced. Through it all, she stressed how important it was for her to be treated normally. She didn't want to be treated like a patient or burden others with her pain.
Monica was dutifully loving, fiercely independent, determined, generous, intelligent, funny, creative, and so much more words fail to describe. A devoted and thoughtful wife. A protective and loving mother. A furiously loyal friend. Monica Riordan Kulis will be deeply missed, forever remembered, and always loved. Wake: Sunday, May 5, 2-6pm at Oyster Bay Funeral Home, 261 South St., Oyster Bay, NY, 11771. Funeral Mass: Monday, May 6 at 10:30 am at St. Dominic RC Chapel, Oyster Bay, NY, 11771. Interment Locust Valley Cemetery. MEMORIAL SLIDESHOW: In Loving Memory of Monica Riordan Kulis

Robert J. Killeen - March 16, 1931 - May 01, 2024

Departed: 05/01/2024 (Oyster Bay)
Obituary Preview: Robert "Bob" J. Killeen of Nashua, NH formally of East Norwich, Long Island, NY passed away at The Inn at Fairview in Hudson, NH on Wednesday, May 1, 2024. Bob has joined his wife of 73 years, Trudy, who passed away April 3, 2024. Bob is survived by daughter Susan and son-in-law Craig Nylund of Levittown, NY, daughter Karen and son-in-law Fred LoPiano of Nashua NH, daughter-in-law Jane Killeen of Groton MA, predeceased by wife Trudy in 2024, son Robert in 2005 and sister Vera (Killeen) Heck in 2015. Bob was born March 16, 1931 and raised in the Inwood neighborhood of Manhattan, NY by parents Edith (Hall) and John Killeen. Bob's fondest memories were the summers he spent at his grandmother's home upstate NY in the village of Corinth. He loved the wide-open spaces, going to Lake Luzerne, working the neighbors farm and milking their cows. As an adult he dreamed of buying a farm in upstate NY. He wanted to be a "gentlemen farmer"; however, with a wife and three children it remained just a dream. Bob met Trudy (Kadrisky) while working at Hunt & Winterbotham, LTD in Manhattan and were married June 16, 1951. Bob enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps and went to Paris Island, S.C. for boot camp and was eventually stationed at Camp Lejeune, NC. The Korean War was winding down and fortunately Bob did not see combat. He would joke that he "protected North Carolina from invasion". Bob earned The Silver Cross of Marine Sharpshooter. His modesty was on display as he stated "the guns' sights were excellent." Trudy and Bob welcomed a son while in N.C. Bob was to be promoted from Corporal to Sergeant however after 2 ½ years he joined the reserves and took advantage of the GI Bill. They returned to NY and Bob started working in the mail room at Mobil Corp in Manhattan. Trudy gave birth to two daughters. Bob went to school evenings earning his degree in Business Administration at St John's University while working full-time and raising a family. After graduating he was promoted to College Recruiter at Mobil Corp., a position he held until his retirement. At that time, Bob had been with Mobil for 36 years. Bob received about 25 letters from co-workers congratulating him on his retirement. There were recurring sentiments commending his loyalty, dedication, friendship and support. Most often mentioned was Bob's sense of humor and the fun times they had working with him. Bob had a quick wit and a dry sense of humor. In 1960 Trudy and Bob bought their first home in Hicksville, Long Island, NY. In 1966 they bought a home in East Norwich, Long Island, NY where they raised their family. In 2013 Trudy and Bob sold their home and purchased a condo at Sky Meadow in Nashua, NH near their daughter and son-in-law. Throughout the '80's & '90's, Trudy and Bob spent a few months at a time at their condo on Hutchinson Island, FL. Almost every summer they would take a trip to Corinth, NY where Bob would reflect on the wonderful moments of his childhood. Bob retired in 1990 and asked Trudy to retire also. Trudy had one condition; they would take a cruise. Bob reluctantly agreed. To his surprise he enjoyed it immensely. This was the start of many cruises with family and friends. They cruised to Alaska, the Panama Canal, Bermuda and the Caribbean to name a few. Some of which they visited multiple times. Bob was a proud Marine, a loving husband and father and a loyal friend. He will be sorely missed by all who knew him. Bob's family would like to thank the entire staff at The Inn @ Fairview (Hudson, NH) for the care and compassion so sincerely given, with special appreciation to the staff of Hardy. And to Home, Health and Hospice of Merrimack, NH for ensuring Bob's comfort and providing support to the family. We'd be remiss in not mentioning the volunteers from Home, Health and Hospice, you are angels on earth.
Calling hours will be Monday May 6 th 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Oyster Bay Funeral Home, 261 South St, Oyster Bay, NY. A funeral mass will be held Tuesday May 7th at 11:30 a.m. at St. Dominic Chapel, 93 Anstice Street, Oyster Bay, NY. Burial to follow at Cemetery of the Holy Rood, 111 Old Country Road, Westbury, NY.

She loved the motorcycle so much that she went again at 98 and 99 years old. As a friend said, “Trudy…the legend, the rock star.” Trudy was as beautiful inside as out, easy to laugh and love. She will be deeply missed. In 2017 Bob moved into a memory unit and Trudy made the decision to move to Nashua Crossings Assisted Living with her cat, Choosey. She truly loved living there enjoying the music, activities and camaraderie with the staff and residents. Words cannot express the family’s gratitude to the entire staff of Nashua Crossings.
