Clayton Lee Fixsen - December 07, 1976 - September 24, 2022

Departed: 09/24/2022 (Overland Park)
Obituary Preview: Clayton Lee Fixsen was born on December 7, 1976 in Goodland, Kansas. That was only the beginning of an extraordinary life that ended far too soon on September 24, 2022 due to an out-of-nowhere cardiac event while he was attending the Plaza Art Fair, a favorite annual tradition.
Although Clayton’s accomplishments as a child were many, he spoke frequently of his amazing experience at Boy’s State and how much he regretted never getting to go to space camp. Clayton always had tremendous technical aptitude and relished being an early adopter of technology.
He was an accomplished photographer and videographer, animator, and video editor. He had an encyclopedic knowledge of cars, video game consoles, and space travel and could recall obscure actor names at the drop of a hat. Clayton was an avid hobbyist, cyclist, hiker, backpacker, drone flyer, and kayaker. He was incredibly gifted at working through complex human-machine interfaces and had built a career he loved developing those interfaces as part of his work at Garmin. He loved not only his work, but also the people he worked with, which was a theme of his life. Many of his closest friends he met as coworkers.
Clayton had taken up beer brewing which morphed quickly from bottles to kegs. He even brewed a “Say I Do Saison” and a “For Richer or for Porter” for his wedding. When he needed an elaborate Freddie Mercury Halloween costume, he bought a sewing machine at Goodwill and taught himself to sew. That grew into him making hats and shirts and many other things. He was an avid board and video gamer. And the list could go on and on.
Although Clayton did many “things,” he was most passionate about the people in his life. Beyond his husband and son, he was incredibly devoted to the people in his life. He loved his parents deeply and idolized his big brother. His sister-in-law and nieces and nephews were a huge part of his life. He never missed a birthday or opportunity to take a trip for a visit with family. He had numerous friends that he had known for decades and was always willing to meet for dinner or drinks or go for a hike or any other adventure that was suggested. He was the first to offer help when people needed it and absolutely the last to ever ask for any help for himself.
In April of 2007, Clayton met the man who would eventually become his husband on a date at Houlihan’s. Todd and Clayton built a life together for many years before it became legal for them to be married. They had an amazing celebration with friends in October of 2016. Soon after, in 2019, they adopted Oliver who was the apple of Clayton’s eye. He was incredibly devoted to Oliver and made sure he was exposed to as many opportunities as Clayton had been during his own childhood. He looked forward to nothing more than seeing Oliver grow and frequently expressed amazement at new things Oliver was learning and doing.
Clayton lived his life to the absolute fullest. He always spoke about pursuing experiences rather than things and lived accordingly. He is incredibly missed by many.
Clayton is survived by his husband, Todd Messenger and son Oliver Fixsen of Overland Park, KS; his parents Randall and Debbie Fixsen of Goodland, KS; his brother and sister-in-law Brandon and Sara Fixsen of Olathe, KS; nieces and nephews Ella, Logan and Palmer Fixsen; his paternal grandmother Wilma Fixsen of Colorado and many other cousins, aunts, and uncles.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, September 29th from 5-8pm at the Overland Park Funeral Chapel, 8201 Metcalf Ave, Overland Park, KS 66204.   A Celebration of Life will be held at the Hall Residence 815 E 5th St, Kansas City, MO beginning at 5:30 pm on Friday, September 30th.
If desired, memorial contributions are suggested to Oliver's Education Fund or The Sierra Club.   Please make checks out to Todd Messenger for Oliver's Education Fund as the account is still being set up.

James was born on January 16, 1938, to John Bristow Wornall III and Lucy Thorning Wornall. He was born into a family with rich Kansas City History. James was a descendant of John B. Wornall (Philanthropist and early pioneer of Kansas City) and the Rev Thomas Johnson (Founder of the Shawnee Methodist Indian Mission). James was known for his sweet and kind demeanor.
When James was 14 years old, on his own, he would walk to church and attend service at Wornall Road Baptist every Sunday. It was there that he gave his life to Jesus Christ and was baptized.

He was especially proud of being an Eagle Scout and a member of the Tribe of Mic-o-say. James attended Pembroke Country Day and graduated from Northwestern University. During that time his garage and basement held several boxes filled with Gideon Bibles all in the Russian language. James continued to be involved in the Gideons an handing out Bibles up into his 80s and loved giving them out to the students at Johnson County Community College.
James had a secret talent that he did not share with many outside of his immediate family. He was a secret opera singer who loved watching the 3 Tenors and would sing opera very loudly and very frequently in the house. His beautiful vibrato could be heard all throughout the house. He was too shy to sing publicly except he did sing a duet with his daughter Desiree at church once after much coercion.
The last eight years of James’ life were very happy. He lived with his daughter Desiree, son-in-law Victor, and his three grandchildren JR, Derek, and Jasmine. His life was filled with new boy scout adventures, campouts, golfing, family dinners, and lots of love. He was also instrumental in helping to raise them which gave everyone lots of joy. James is preceded in death by his parents, John and Lucy Wornall, his brother John Bristow Wornall VI, and his wife of over 40 years Ilah “Ruthie” Wornall who passed away in 2017. James B. Rudolph - September 27, 1943 - July 20, 2022

Departed: 07/20/2022 (Overland Park)
Obituary Preview: Jim (or “Benny” as his fraternity brothers nicknamed him) was born on September 27, 1943 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, son of Clarence T. Rudolph and Audrey J. Radder.  He left this good earth on July 20, 2022. He married Jacqueline “Jackie” Adler on October 17, 1964 at St. Sebastian Church in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.  Jim grew up in Brookfield, Wisconsin and earned a Mechanical Engineering degree from the University of Wisconsin - Madison in 1966.  He was a member of Tau Kappa Epsilon.
After graduation, Jim took a service trainee position with the Caterpillar Tractor Company in Peoria, Illinois.  He was relocated to the Dallas area where he worked as a Service Representative eventually covering the State of Texas, Louisiana and part of Mississippi.  In 1970, he left Caterpillar and went to work for the Wisconsin Gas Company where he was part of a project to build a natural gas-powered car.   But, as they say, he still had that yellow paint coursing through his veins.  In 1972, he accepted a position at the Dean Machinery Company, a Caterpillar dealership in Kansas City, Missouri.  He retired from Dean Machinery in 2003 as Vice President of Parts and Service.   After retirement he worked for Hometeam Repair as a handyman.  There was nothing he couldn’t fix, and he enjoyed the conversations he had with customers as much as he enjoyed doing their repairs.  It has been said that Jim never met a stranger.
In his early adult years, he spent a lot of time volunteering, coaching kids’ sports, participating in Scouts, planning canoe trips, camping outings and fishing trips.  He was a past President of his Homeowner’s Association, worked with the Village Church’s Habitat for Humanity and was a Commodore for the Johnson County Sailing Society.  Besides sailing, another one of his hobbies was woodworking, a skill acquired from his father; and, for a short time was a member of the Kansas City Woodworker’s Guild.  He built cabinets, kids’ desks, tables, vanities, and ‘rocking toys’ for his grandkids.
He was always open to helping with a challenging project or to give sage advice on just about any topic. He loved talking and teaching.  When asked a question, he almost never gave a simple answer, he provided an explanation of why, which many times included a detailed diagram.  He loved to grill as well as make (and eat) his specialty - buttered popcorn made in a pan on the stove.  He also loved watching sports, especially college sports - the Badgers, and Jayhawks.
Jim loved to travel.  He was an expert-organizer for the many family vacations that he planned (in-detail) and that were enjoyed by all.  Family was paramount to him. He traveled anywhere and everywhere for his grandkids’ births and birthdays, to watch them play sports or just to visit them, which he loved the most.   He was much loved and will be sorely missed.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and his brother Jon, in-laws, Stephen and Marie Adler and sister-in-law, Mary Grinolds.  He is survived by his wife, Jackie; daughter, Jenny (Gib) Benschoter, Prairie Village, Kansas; and sons, Dan (Cara) Rudolph, Evanston, Illinois, Mark (Amy) Rudolph, Glenview, Illinois, and Joel Rudolph, Ocala, Florida, 12 grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
He is further survived by his sister, Barbara (Vince) Pipia; sisters- in-law, Kathie Rudolph, Phoenix, Arizona, Jill Jones, Sheboygan Falls, Wisconsin, and Colleen (Mike) Schneider, Oconomowoc, Wisconsin; and brothers-in-law, Stephen (Lovella) Adler, Ocean View, Hawaii, Daniel Adler, Grand Marsh, Wisconsin, and Michael (Jean) Adler, Las Vegas, Nevada.
We wish to give special thanks to Luvetta Triplett for her care and concern for all these many years.

The family moved frequently following the pastoral calls of his father, including to Alexandria, Va., Essex, Iowa, and Alexandria, Louisiana. The family moved to Kansas City when Everett was in the fourth grade, and remained in Kansas City through Everett’s graduation from Central High School in Kansas City, Mo., in 1953. He graduated from Yale University in 1957 with a degree in architecture. While there, he was the captain of the Yale track team and was a member of WolfsheadSociety. Among the commercial projects that he designed were a number of Residence Inns, Santa Fe Towers in Overland Park, and HUD housing. He also did residential architecture.
His design and construction skills extended to home projects, including custom designed beds for his daughters, a van that began as a shell with a single seat and ended as an RV, and a complete remodel of a 1940s bungalow in Overland Park that was his final home. He also built a seaworthy sailboat.
A stalwart member of the community, Everett served on the Lenexa Planning Commission for 25 years, and frequently served as a judge at the Great Lenexa Barbecue.
The family attended Redeemer Lutheran Church in Shawnee, then joined Immanuel Lutheran Church in Kansas City, Mo. Everett served many years on the church council, was the head usher, and was part of the team that counted the offering money. When the congregation voted to expand the building at Westport Road and Bell Street, Everett designed the expansion.
He had a dry sense of humor, sometimes teasing his children with tall tales such as being able to eat soup with chopsticks as long as they ate fast enough to get a wave going. When one daughter asked for a horse, he said she could have one if she could find one that would fit beneath her custom designed bed that had drawers to the floor. And when the family stopped to see historical markers vacations, he referred to them as hysterical markers.
Everett enjoyed hiking, boating, and the outdoors. A dedicated dad, he attended all of his daughters’ games and practices.
Following Arlene’s death in 2010, good fortune transformed a long-time friendship with Carolyn Wilson into romance. The two were together for 12 happy years.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Arlene and his sister Mary. He is survived by Carolyn Wilson; his daughters, Kristen and Marit; grandsons, Erik Hedeen and Jacob Kasper; his brother, John, of Dallas; and cousins, nieces and nephews.

Donna E. Roembach - July 03, 1922 - May 07, 2022

Departed: 05/07/2022 (Overland Park)
Obituary Preview: Donna Esther (Whitwam) Roembach passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 7th, 2022 at the Kansas City Hospice House.
Donna and her beloved twin sister Monna were born on July 3, 1922 in Greensburg, Kansas to Rev. Charles D. Whitwam and Mary Belle Whitwam. The youngest of eight children, Donna moved with her family all around Kansas as their father was called to lead numerous Methodist churches. Donna, like both of her parents and all of her sisters, graduated from college, thanks to an exceptional family emphasis on education. Donna earned her degree from Friends University in 1944, and weeks after graduating she wed her sweetheart, T. L. “Tex” Roembach. Theirs was a great love story. Donna devotedly followed Tex all over the country as he completed his pilot’s training to serve during WWII.
Donna and Tex had five children: Daniel, Eric, Jeanine, Theodore, and Kimberly. After Tex’s service, the family lived briefly in Cheney, KS and then settled down in Norwich, KS. Here Tex headed the family bank and Donna committed herself to being an exceptional wife, mother and homemaker. The family was rocked by tragedy in 1961 when Tex died in an automobile accident. Going forward Donna raised her five children as a single mom with her faith and her extended family guiding her. Donna’s faith was tested by the many losses in her life, but her hope and trust in God never faltered.
Donna moved to Lenexa in 1967 where she continued to raise her family  and became involved in the Lenexa United Methodist Church. She was a proud founding member of PEO Chapter HE and loved her PEO sisters wholeheartedly.  She was involved in supporting her children’s schools and interests, had many creative hobbies, and traveled the world with the People to People organization.
She remained close to all of her sisters, Nina Belle, Juanita, Rowena, Helen, Dorothy and Monna, despite being separated geographically.
In the mid 1970’s, Donna began working at KU Medical Center, where she worked until she retired in 1985. During this time she became active in the singles group at Countryside Christian Church in Mission, KS. Donna remained an active and devoted member there for the rest of her life. She formed many cherished and enduring friendships there which greatly nourished her life.
Donna’s life was defined by her loving devotion to her family and her unshakable faith in God. Like her mother, she was generous to a fault. Doona had a lifelong love of animals, a penchant for chocolate ice cream, a quiet and knowing laugh, unending patience, beautiful twinkling sapphire eyes, a gorgeous alto singing voice, and the heart of a lioness.
Donna was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Warren, and all six of her sisters, as well as her husband, T.L. “Tex” Roembach and her two oldest sons, Dan and Eric. That is quite a welcoming committee in heaven.
She is survived by: daughter in law, Francine Podenski of Walnut Creek, CA, Jeanine Roembach/Clark (Greg) of White Bear Lake, MN and their children, Haley, Emily, Ben, and Claire, Ted Roembach of Prairie VIllage, KS, and Kim Roembach Ratliff (Jon) of Prairie VIllage, KS and their children Nick and Hannah. Donna was also thrilled to have welcomed seven great grandchildren into this world. She also leaves many nieces and nephews who she adored, so many friends, and her beloved Siberian cat, Angie.
The family suggests donations in Donna’s memory be made to the KC Hospice House.
