John Ralston Staheli - May 17, 1933 - April 23, 2021

Departed: 04/23/2021 (Fillmore)
Obituary Preview: John Ralston Staheli – devoted family patriarch, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, friend and humble servant of the Lord - peacefully passed away at his home on April 23, 2021 at the age of 87 of causes incident to age.  He often referred to himself as “a simple man”, but he lived an amazing life, found fulfillment in  the relationships he had with others, and was proud of his service as a Korean War Era veteran.
All who knew him were inspired by his smile, enthusiasm, optimistic attitude, humility and openness in sharing truth.  He leaves a legacy of selfless service and an abiding love for everyone he met.  He was good natured, warm, caring, compassionate, energetic and a hard worker.  One could not be around John without being uplifted.  He believed that every person was a unique piece of the puzzle and an important part of the whole. Anybody that visited his home could be expected to sign a piece of his very own jigsaw puzzle that he kept to show how the puzzle would not be complete without everybody, no matter who you are.
Have you ever seen an old cowboy? John asked this question many times in good humor referencing himself. John was a lover of horses and was often found riding, breaking, training and shoeing them. Throughout his life he owned 187! He was often seen in his boots and cowboy hat, and will be remembered playing “Turkey in the Straw'' on his harmonica and yodelling as well as Gene Autry. We will miss hearing his music and feeling the joy that he carried with him everywhere.
He will also be remembered as a great missionary – a man who went the extra mile to bring others unto Christ and whose faith never wavered. He served in many callings in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints throughout his life and was noted to have faithfully magnified each. He was an inspirational example of a disciple of our Savior and all that can be accomplished by a humble and faithful individual who places his complete trust in the Lord.
John was born on May 17, 1933 in Enterprise, Utah to Beulah and Clarence Staheli – the 7th child in a family of 11 children.  He is survived by his loving wife, Kaye, his sisters Mary, Colleen, Barbara, and Anna, his children Bobbi, Mike, Kevin, Jimmy, Melonie, Mitzi, Maegan, Brad, Kathy, and Nonya Ree, his former spouse Janice Bowers, and his many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his loving wife Patty Lou Staheli and his siblings Stan, Bert, Ken, Jim, Evelyn, and Ferol.
Graveside services will be held Saturday, May 1 at 1:00 PM at the Enterprise, Utah Cemetery.  Burial Arrangements are under the direction of  Olpin Stevens funeral Home.
John is headed to the last roundup. The family wishes to express their love and gratitude for all of those who will be in attendance and those who would be if they could.

Phillip Angus Blad - July 08, 1950 - January 25, 2021

Departed: 01/25/2021 (Fillmore)
Obituary Preview: Our beloved Husband, Father, Grandpa, Brother, Uncle, Cousin, Teacher, Coach and Friend, Phillip Angus Blad, returned to his Heavenly home on Monday, January 25, 2021 in Provo, Utah, at age 70. He was lovingly surrounded by his wife and children when he peacefully left this mortal life.
Phil was born July 8, 1950 in Payson, Utah, and was the sixth of nine children born to Loueda Allan Blad and Carl Hamblin Blad. He was finally able to embrace his older sister Carla Jean, who returned to her Heavenly home at birth. Phil was one of seven rowdy boys and one angelic sister.  He married his sweetheart, Sharon Mae Simmons on August 25, 1972 in the St. George, Utah Temple. They were blessed with five beautiful children, Chris, Shanette, Dave, Mike and Stacia. In his life history, Phil recorded that his mom told him he was born two weeks early because of a car accident that scared him right out of her, and that he had been a terror ever since that time. He lived in Payson, Utah until he was one and then his family moved to Salem, Utah where his father ran the local gas station. Salem was a wonderful place for a young boy to live. Living next to the Salem Pond was Heaven on earth for an adventurous young boy who loved to fish, hunt birds, swim and ice skate! Phil loved the outdoors and spent many days chasing birds, fishing and swimming in the pond, playing in the ditch, and walking in the lower fields looking for snakes, squirrels, frogs and other interesting creatures that sometimes got him in trouble!
He developed a love of sports by watching his older brothers play, and started playing little league baseball when he was seven years old. Phil participated in the Pentathlon from ages 8-11 and won the local school and regional contest 4 years in a row. He was lucky enough to finish 11th, 3rd, 2nd and 1st in the SLC finals.
Phil lettered in football, baseball, basketball and track at Spanish Fork High School. He was also Seminary President his senior year and graduated in 1968. He received a leadership and baseball scholarship to BYU, where he attended for one year before serving a two year mission to the Japan West Mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He loved the Japanese people! Before his mission, Phil had been drafted by several major league baseball organizations and was hoping to pursue a career in professional baseball when he returned, but due to health issues was unable to pursue that dream.
He then attended UNLV, where he met and married his eternal companion, then moved to Cedar City, Utah where he attended SUSC and graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Education. Mrs. Kennison, Phil’s 7th grade teacher, was his inspiration to become a teacher. He moved his family to Kanosh, Utah in 1981 and was fortunate enough to teach 7th and 8th grade Algebra, Science, Health and PE at the Fillmore Middle School for 31 years. His classroom was adorned with deer, elk, fish, ducks, water fowl, fox and a bald eagle. He created an atmosphere of adventure and learning. He loved his students and could see the value and potential in each one. He was named Teacher of the Year in 2005-2006 for Fillmore Middle School.
Phil was an endless prankster and loved to tease his fellow co-workers and students. He cherished his time with those he taught, coached and worked with. He coached many sports from little league baseball and football to Junior High wrestling and girl’s Junior High basketball, as well as High School baseball and wrestling. He developed lifelong friendships with those he coached and coached with. He helped accomplish seven state championships.
He served in many church callings including Scout Master, Primary, Sunday School, Young Mens, Stake Girl’s Camp Quartermaster, Ward Missionary, Manti Temple Ordinance Worker and Home Teacher. He loved all of his callings but his favorite was scouting. Phil had a passion for hunting and fishing. He cherished his many hunting and fishing trips with his brothers and sons. If Phil wasn’t catching fish, everyone knew there were no fish to be caught! One of his greatest joys in life was spending time at the cabin at Otter Creek, which he helped design and build. He felt the cabin was a peaceful and sacred place and he loved to be there with his family. He looked forward twice a year to the couples’ reunion with his siblings and their spouses, where there were always games, great food and that contagious jovial laughter from the Blad brothers, which could be heard from a mile away.
Phil had a love for life, a positive attitude and always saw the best in people. Despite his health limitations, he always had a smile on his face, never complained and enjoyed making people laugh. He cherished his country and his membership in the church. He had a strong testimony of the gospel and of Jesus Christ.
His greatest joy was his family. He took pride in his 20 grandchildren, ages 5-25, and tried to support them in their various sports and activities. Phil is survived by his wife, Sharon Blad, children, Chris (Melanie) Blad, Shanette (Brent) Bergener, Dave Blad, Mike (Sarah) Blad, Stacia (Josh) Leugers, and 20 amazing grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings Blaine Blad, DeVon (Pauline) Blad, Merlin (Lois) Blad, Rinda (Ray) Christensen, DaleLynn (Denine) Blad, Paul (Carolyn) Blad, Kent (Ann) Blad. He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Loueda Blad, sister Carla Jean Blad, sister-in-law Janell Blad, nephew Allan Blad and Ken DeVon Christensen, sister-in-law Virginia Blad.

Phillip G. Robison - May 03, 1923 - December 25, 2020

Departed: 12/25/2020 (Fillmore)
Obituary Preview: Phillip G. Robison, born May 3, 1923, when the first train arrived in Fillmore. Grandpa always told how his parents, Albert & Dora Carling Robison, were upset as they were missing the city’s celebration. Grandpa was raised in Flowell, Utah with his 11 siblings. He rode the horse to attend school until the days of the school bus. He and a few of his friends happily loved to place firecrackers under the wheels to scare the driver. When he wasn’t attending to chores, he played with his older brothers on the farm, practicing their basketball skills with a makeshift basket fashioned by nailing an old bottomless wood bucket to a post. This is where his love for sports was born.
Phil attended Millard High School, where he excelled in basketball and tennis. After graduating in 1941, Grandpa went to further his education at Dixie Jr. College in St. George. At Dixie, he continued playing basketball and tennis.  In 1943, his education was interrupted, and he was drafted into World War II. From 1943-1946, he served as a medic in the Army. Grandpa told us of being on a small vessel, sailing from the Philippines to the coast of California. He said that he never thought he’d make it. He was so sick on the voyage and felt he was not meant to be on the sea. While he was serving, he was able to visit many places in Europe and Asia and was proud to be of service to his country. Although, Grandpa had been to many places, he finally got his chance to visit Washington D.C. in 2014 with his brother, Floyd and nephew, Dennis on an Honor Flight created just for veterans. It was here that he was awarded a medallion for his service in WWII.
After Phil arrived home from the war, he enrolled at Brigham Young University. Here he found his first love, Mary Jean Laabs. Mary Jean and Phil were married September 7, 1946 in Boise, Idaho. A week later their marriage was solemnized in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple. This union brought 5 children to love and many adventures. After losing his dear Mary Jean in 1983, he found another great love, Viola Jean Overson. Phil and Jean were married June 9, 1984, in the Provo LDS Temple. Jean left this earth in 2013 after the two of them had many wonderful experiences.
While attending BYU, Phil ran track and found that he had a knack running fast. This was the beginning of a lifelong, love for the sport. Grandpa gained his degree at BYU, in Physical Education and Coaching, with minors in Health, Driver Education, and History. Phil’s unwavering loyalty to the Cougars was nothing to mess around with. He wore his blue proudly, especially the day after a win.
Phil graduated and began his teaching career in Oak City. He enjoyed the community and even joined a softball team. It wasn’t too long however, before the opportunity arose to fly home to his roots of Millard High School. Grandpa was well known for teaching Drivers Ed. and History. There wasn’t a student that didn’t make it through to graduation without having Coach Robison as their teacher. Grandpa coached basketball, leading the Eagles to State Championships. Phil also coached Track and Field. He continued to assist coaching even long after he retired. Phil hosted his own track meet each year and invited numerous schools from all over to attend; he loved watching the students excel. Coach Robison taught for 38 years and coached for 34 of those years. Phil enjoyed being an announcer for sports that he was not coaching, such a wrestling. He announced each match for 35 years, becoming a voice many recognized. These years resulted in Phil earning the Super Fan Award of Utah High School Activities Association in 2003, Utah Sports Hall of Fame in 2012, and many, many more.
Phil could be seen behind the scenes of many of the community’s events as well as serving in many capacities in his faith, Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He was awarded the President’s Volunteer Service Award by President Obama. In 2014, Grandpa was honored to be chosen as the Grand Marshall for Fillmore City. A few years prior to that, he was honored as Days of Old West Rodeo’s Grand Marshall. Phil never sat on the side lines. He could be found atop his horse trotting down the parade route.  Phil was a member of the East Millard Riding Club, serving as President for many years. He traveled around the state competing each summer with his youngest daughter, Vicki. The two of them were a force to be reckoned with as their main event was Pairs Pleasure; matching horses, attire, and gait.
Phil passed on Christmas Day, 2020, at the age of 97. Grandpa will be greatly missed by his family: children, Evelyn (Leroy) Parker, Lloyd (Pamela) Robison, Vickiann (Gail) Mitchell, Bruce (Mary) Robison, Robin (Jerilyn) Robison, his 11 granddaughters, 11 grandsons, and 60 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings, Floyd Robison, Elaine Scott, & Dale (Sharon) Robison. Preceding him in death are his lovely parents, his siblings, Clark, Max, Marion, R.L. Robison, Evelyn Runswick, Katherine Smith, Lyle Robison, and Norma West.

Sarah June Day - November 02, 1923 - December 04, 2020

Departed: 12/04/2020 (Fillmore)
Obituary Preview: Sarah June Day was born on November 2nd, 1923 in Fillmore, Utah to Carl Homer Day and Hazel Beauregard Day.  She died on Friday, December 4th, 2020 at the age of 97.
June was preceded in death by her son, Curtis Mark Christopherson, brother, C. Nelson Day and sister, Donna Day Clare.
She is survived by her daughter, Dionne Brooks; her grandchildren:  Angela (Colin) Handy, Megan (Reid) Mann and Carl (McKell) Christopherson, and by her 12 great-grand children: Cahlyn, Emma, Riley and Devin Handy; Jackson, Aiva, Charlie, Sloan and Harvey Mann; Gavin, Kinlee and Everly June Christopherson.
She is also survived by her nephews, Robert Day and David (Dorothy) Day and their families.
June was eight-years-old when she left Fillmore, Utah for Salt Lake City with her family.  She graduated from East High school where she attended with the current president of the L.D.S. Church, Russel M. Nelson. When June was eighteen, she joined the war effort at the Remington plant inspecting bullets.  She had to be very precise in her work because an imperfect bullet could cause a U.S. soldier's death.  June always blamed her work inspecting bullets for her need to start wearing eye glasses!
After WWII, June served a mission for the L.D.S. Church in Geneva, Switzerland and Nice, France.  She made time to learn the sport of fencing while she was there.  Her father and mother joined her when she was released from her mission, and the three of them traveled to several countries, witnessing the rebuilding efforts in Europe after the war, and enjoying the food and culture.
Upon returning to the states, June obtained her Bachelor's degree at the University of Utah, teaching fencing at the campus fencing club.  She headed to Southern California to teach middle school, where she met and married Grant N. Christopherson.
They spent time in Minnesota and New Orleans, Louisiana before returning to Salt Lake City where June had two babies and completed her Master's degree in 1965 and her Doctorate in Administration of Education in 1967, all while working as a secretary for her department head.  She taught classes at the University of Utah for several years.  One of her memorable students was Jerry Chambers who played basketball for the Utes.
In 1971, after her father passed, June moved her mother and children back to Fillmore.  June wanted fresh air and the friendliness of a small town.  She spent the next five decades as a resident of Fillmore.
In 1981, she was called on a second mission for the L.D.S. church, this time to the Kansas City, Missouri mission.
Upon returning to Fillmore, June volunteered her time working for several Fillmore city mayors and various County Commissions, helping to write proposals and apply for grants to attract businesses to Millard county.
She spearheaded an effort to make sure Fillmore City Sheriff's Deputies were certified by the state, and helped attract businesses to the Fillmore Industrial Park.
June was a part of bringing the Intermountain Power Plant to Delta, Utah, and was instrumental in getting the funding for the East Millard Swimming Pool, and overseeing the project. June taught the Gospel Doctrine class for thirteen years at the Fillmore 1st Ward.  For ten years, when she was already in her 80's, June was given the church assignment to visit the elderly at the Long-term Care Wing of the Fillmore Community Hospital, even though she was older than many of her charges!
After breaking her hip, June spent 2019 rehabbing and recovering, and lived with her cousin, Marlow Mace and wife Sally in Fillmore.  She then spent her last six months at the Victorian House assisted living facility in Levan, Utah, where she will be remembered fondly for her wit and warm personality.
Sarah June Day was an unconventional, larger-than-life woman who loved Fillmore and its citizens dearly.  She devoted many years of her life to help build Fillmore into what it is today, and she will be sorely missed.
Interment will be at the Fillmore City Cemetery at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, December 9, 2020 under the care of Olpin Stevens Funeral Home.

In the city of Phnom Penh, everybody was sent away to the Killing Fields, including his family, but a few people stayed. He said, "It was very, very sad. There were old people, sick people dying around me. There was no food, medicine, or drinking water. I couldn’t believe my people were killing their own people like that." Bis was one of the few Marines to escape the city. He said, "I escaped in an old World War Il Navy ship, with about 700 people. Peterson, was born in Payson, Utah on the 28th of March, 1934 to Franklin Henry and Iola Alvern Smith Peterson. When he was only four years old, his father passed away. His mother married Reece Corbett who helped raise Frank, his brother Wayne, and sister, Shirley.  Over the years, five more children joined the family, Lamar, Beverly, Ruth, Bob and Ron. Surviving him are Beverly and Ron. He attended schools in Utah county.
Frank enlisted in the Army and spent two years in Korea during the conflict. While in the army he received many certifications and training. Two remarkable daughters, Sherry and Kathy were born to this union.
He found his niche and passion in antique sales and swap meets during the next decade. Following their divorce ten years later, he found out why he built the Flowell house so big! Sherry Rostenbach Boone came into his life with her ten children and soon the youngest six relocated with them to Millard county in 1992.  The Boone kids are Jonathan, Becky, Amy, Martha, Tammy, Aaron, Sarah, Jesse, Jason, and Justin.
