Obituary Preview: In memory of Christine C. Boerema (Gillies), who passed away into our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ’s arms on November 7, 2022. She was surrounded by her family. Chris, age 65, was born on January 5, 1957. She resided in Ludington with her husband of 38 years, Michael J. Boerema. Together they had one son, Aaron, and three beautiful granddaughters; Harley Jo, Brielle Irene and Kaitlyn.
Chris enjoyed fishing, cooking, gardening, canning, and kids. She enjoyed fishing and swimming at Ford Lake with her family. Her love of gardening and canning would contribute to her cooking. But, most of all, was her love of children, which resulted in the numerous afghans that she knitted.
Chris graduated from Ludington High School and Central Michigan University where she received a Bachelor of Science in Education degree. She worked in sales and as a bookkeeper at Avenue Tire and Auto Services in Ludington.
She was involved in working with the Children’s and Youth Ministries at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Scottville where she was a Sunday School Teacher. Chris was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, and aunt. She loved family and always enjoyed the time she was with them.
Chris is survived by her husband, Mike; son Aaron and Breanna; granddaughters, Harley Jo, Brielle Irene and Kaitlyn; also her mother, Delores (Burnell) Gillies; brothers, John M. and Tracy (Nordland) Gillies III and Brian Gillies; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father, John M Gillies Jr, and her Mother-in-law, Bonnie I. Richert.

Obituary Preview: Ronald Jean Miller, 65, of Ludington, formally of Oklahoma, passed away on Sunday, November 6, 2022. Ronald was born March 6, 1957, in Modesto, California to Clarence Miller and Reva Bailey.
Ronald enlisted in the United States Army on March 22, 1974, where he served as an armor unit supply specialist at Fort Jackson, South Carolina. He was discharged on January 9, 1976.
On July 2, 1982, Ronald married the love of his life, Leigh (Johnson) Miller.
When Ronald wasn’t perfecting his craft of leather working, or learning something new about 3D printing, he could be found in the living room playing and bonding over “Call of Duty” with his granddaughters, Caroline and Serenity, as well as his best friend Jessie.
Ronald is survived by his wife, Leigh Miller; daughter, Stephany Miller; granddaughters, Serenity and Caroline.
Ronald was preceded in death by his daughter, Felisha Ann Miller; in-laws, Sally and David Johnson.

Obituary Preview: Kimberly “Kim” Ann King, 66, of Free Soil, formerly of San Diego, CA, passed away at home on Thursday, November 3, 2022. Kim was born February 21, 1956, in Manistee, the daughter of Milan and Lucille (Garber) Tessman of East Lake. She graduated from Manistee High School in 1974.
Kim’s top priority was her daughter, Magie. Along with being an awesome Mom, Kim acquired many different skills. She was employed as a First Mate of a salmon charter fishing boat, worked for the Glen of Michigan garment company, was a machinist at Excello of Manistee, and a home care aide for Manistee Community Mental Health. She was employed by San Diego City Schools at the office of her daughter’s elementary school, was a lab technician at the University of San Diego, California, and a security guard for private communities. Before retiring she was a cook on the S.S. Badger and a Home Depot employee. In her spare time Kim took on home improvement projects and goat farming. She was truly a “Jane-of-all trades.” Kim was a faithful member of the Living Church of God and enjoyed fellowship with the Traverse City congregation. Her favorite hobbies were fishing, hunting, hiking, gardening, and birdwatching. She was also a self-taught artist, producing works from sketched doodles to wall murals.
Kim is survived by her father, Milan Tessman; brothers, William and Paul Tessman; sisters, Tina Tessman, Judy Lundy, and Linda Loper; daughter, Magie Sue Stefanski, and her nieces and nephews.
Kim was preceded in death by her mother, Lucille (Garber) Tessman.

Ernest Keys St. Johns - January 20, 1927 - October 26, 2022

Obituary Preview: Ernest Keys St. Johns, 95, of Kalamazoo, formerly of Ludington, passed away Wednesday, October 26, 2022. Ernest was born January 20, 1927, in Pontiac, MI, to Harrison and Bessie (Gillings) St. Johns. He graduated from Pontiac Senior High School and went on to attend a few different universities. Those included George Washington University in Washington DC, Wayne State University in Detroit MI, Berkeley Divinity School at Yale in New Haven CN, Grand Valley State University in Allendale MI, and Ecole Biblique in Jerusalem Israel. Ernest married Rosemary St. Johns on December 24, 1969, spending almost 50 years together in wedded bliss. His last birthday gift to Rosemary was joining her and the Lord in Heaven on what would have been her 93rd birthday. Ernest faithfully served his country as a Sergeant in the USMC: 1944-1946, WW II – Pacific Theater, Iwo Jima and Okinawa; recalled for Korean War 1950-51.
Ernest was ordained to the Priesthood of the Episcopal Church, on June 29, 1960, Feast of SS Peter and Paul and served faithfully until his conversion to Catholicism in June of 2015. He served in several parishes in Michigan: St. Paul's in Lansing, St. Timothy's in Detroit, St. Paul's in Elk Rapids, St. Sebaldus in Bellaire, St. Paul's in St. Joseph, Church of the Mediator in Harbert, and St. Andrew's in Big Rapids. Also working on the bishop’s staff as Deployment Officer for Diocese of Western Michigan and served as Interim Priest and Supply Priest in several parishes in Michigan and New Mexico.
Ernest served as the director of FIVECAP, KALCAP and TRICAP community action programs at various times. In 1992-1993 Ernest and Rosemary lived in Jerusalem, with Ernest serving as Registrar for St. George’s College in Jerusalem. In his later years, he served with his wife as a volunteer for the American Red Cross where they served on a local Disaster Action Team and deployed together. Those deployments included Hurricane Brett in Texas, Hurricane Floyd in New Jersey, Cerro Grande Wildfires in New Mexico, World Trade Center in New York City, and floods in Central Illinois.
Ernest was preceded in death by his wife, Rosemary E. St. Johns; parents: Harrison and Bessie St. Johns; brother, Joseph H. St. Johns; sister, Catherine J. Wren, who passed a few hours before Ernest.
Ernest is survived by children: Michael C. St. Johns, Maj USAF (ret) of Germantown MD and Patricia A. (Daniel) Robinson of Kalamazoo MI; stepchildren: Richard A. (Marcia) Wall Jr., CDR USN (ret) of Charleston SC and Cathy M. Schindler of Ludington MI; grandchildren: Jacob D. Robinson, AE1 USN, Alexander K. (Heather) Robinson, Chaney A. (Brandon) Bear, and Richard (Hannah) Wall III; plus 6 great grandchildren.
A Mass from the Order of Christian Funerals will be held November 18, 2022, at 11:00 am St. Thomas More Catholic Church in Kalamazoo. Ernest will be laid to rest at Pere Marquette Cemetery in Ludington.

He was born in Muskegon to Marvin and Evonne (Barton) Stoudt July 2, 1953. Tim was raised in the Muskegon area until the family moved to Montague in 1966 and was a graduate of Montague High School, class of 1971.
Tim was married to Mary Dresden (Frederick) Korthase for 15 years, and they had five children: Melisa (Andrew) Olson, Corinna O’Neal, Timothy (Gentry) Stoudt, Christopher Stoudt, and Justin (Nicole) Stoudt. He was a talented carpenter and enjoyed gardening, cooking and reading. He will be missed.
Tim is survived by his five children, 15 grandchildren, and one great-grandchild; his siblings: Marva (James) Schmitt (Tenn.), William Stoudt (Ga.), Julie Robinson (Ga.), and David Stoudt (Mich.). He was preceded in death by his parents and granddaughter, Chloey Ann Stoudt.
A private memorial gathering will be held for family members.

Danielle will be greatly missed by many. She is survived by her parents, her sisters, D’lani Finnson and Charlotte Dault, her nieces, Riley-May Helms and Oakley Ann Finnson, her grandparents, Sandra Kettle, Thelma and Harold Finnson.
Danielle was preceded in death by her brother, Dylan Paul Finnson and her cousin, Jessie Finnson.
There will be a celebration of Danielle’s life held Sunday, August 21, 2022 from 1:00pm to 7:00pm at the VFW Don Rea Post 8846, 1061 Witham Rd., Muskegon MI 49445. Food and refreshments will be provided. Come join the family and share your memories of Danielle with the family.

Mark was born March 19, 1965 to James Patrick & Beverly Jane Gilland in Muskegon. He graduated from Reeths-Puffer High School in 1983. In July of 1987 he started with Herman Miller where he enjoyed a 30 year career. In 1989, Mark married Tracy Sullivan. They raised two boys, Patrick & Nick, and countless animals on their hobby farm – primarily horses & dogs.
Mark was a hard worker who had a lot of love, compassion, and sentiment for the animals, friends, and family around him. It was difficult to go anywhere in Muskegon County without running into someone that Mark knew because of his welcoming personality & years as a real estate agent & tax professional on top of his full time career. He would pick up hobbies with great care and passion from raising birds, dogs, and sheep, to raising & training horses, to running a small concession trailer. There was nothing that Mark enjoyed more than spoiling and talking with the kids in his family. He was incredibly excited to have recently become a grandfather to two girls.
Mark is preceded in death by his parents, James Patrick & Beverly Gilland; brother, Mike & Matt Gilland; and Uncle, Terrance Gilland. He is survived by sons, Patrick (Katy) & Nick Gilland; granddaughters, Peyton & Kendall; former spouse, Tracy Gilland; sister, Patty (Berry) Stone; nieces, Jenny, Anna, Jansen, & Macy; nephews, Jim & Matt; great-nephews, Connor & Colton; and great-niece, Ashley.
