She was born on October 8, 1931 in Farmington to Batiste and Lena (Astesone) Filerbo.
She married Paul Hayes and later married Wade Lybarger on September 26, 1986. They preceded her in death.
Marie last worked at Shad Hill in Farmington. She was a past member of the 1st Baptist Church in Farmington, the Order of the Eastern Star in Yates City and the Women of the Moose in Farmington.
Memorials may be made to the Farmington Rescue Squad.
Cremation rites have been accorded through Oaks-Hines Funeral Home.

He was born in Canton, to Charles and Bonnie (Standard) Wells. They preceded him in death as well as his maternal and paternal grandparents and his uncle Leroy Wells.
He is survived by his son Joel Otto Wells, two sisters Crystal (John Patouhas) Wells, and Terri (Christopher) Eakins, and one aunt Sharon Wells.
Eric last worked at Pella Windows in Macomb. He is a Veteran of the United States Army. He served in Iraq and Afghanistan as a diesel mechanic. Eric enjoyed camping, fishing, shooting pool and darts, and tinkering on cars in his free time.
A memorial visitation will be held on Thursday May 23, 2024 at Oaks-Hines Funeral Home in Canton from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. A burial with military honors will takes place at 2:00 p.m. on Friday at White Chapel Memory Gardens in Canton.

Betty was born on April 11, 1935, on her Daddy’s 32nd birthday in Havana Illinois, to Adolph and Edna (Hickman) Niederer. She first married Richard Stage on February 18, 1957 in Peoria. He passed away on September 7, 2013. She is also preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Gerald Wingerter. He passed away on October 27, 2011. Also preceding her in death is her sister, Beulah Towery.
Betty is survived by her children, Robbin (Jodie) Kost of Canton, Richard (Vicki) Stage of Dunfermline, Ronald (Donna) Stage of Jacksonville Florida, and Rodney (Therasa “Terry”) Stage of Hopedale, Illinois. Step son, Robert Wingerter of Florida, one brother, Don (Delores) Niederer of Clinton Illinois, fourteen grandchildren, Connie, Cathy, Jeff, Aaron, Joseph, Laura, Nathan, Patricia, Hailey, Cassandra, Rodchelle, Gene, and Samantha, and twenty three great grandchildren.
Betty had a variety of jobs throughout her long life. Including but not limited to medical secretary at OSF, Graham Hospital Mason District Hospital, Culbertson Hospital, and Dr. Cercone, educational secretary at Spoon River College, and fan club secretary to Steve Hall and Shotgun Red of Brainerd MN. Betty was an election judge for many years. Betty was also the Astoria Town Clerk for 20 years.
While we will miss her so much, we know she is with her loved ones in heaven. She was a great lady and enjoyed life. The family wishes to thank Farmington Village and Compassus Hospice for all of the care of their mom and assistance in the end. She loved the staff at Farmington Village.
Memorials may be made to Fulton County Humane Society or to the Canton St. Jude’s Runners.

Surviving are 5 nephews and nieces Randolph (wife Trixi) Yocum, William S. Matejewski, Angelika (husband Christopher) Antoni, Patricia (husband Mark Ellis) Yocum, and Sandra Schultz. Also, grand nieces and nephews, Sawyer and Jonathan Antoni, Brian and Jennifer Yocum, Syd and Simon Ellis, Ian and Eric Yocum, Paul and John Hubbs Jr., Susan Hubbs Sharrock, and Cody and Dallas Schultz. Also, great-grand nieces and nephews Alexa Yocum, Cooper and Chloe Schultz, Arwen and Alexis Sharrock, and Paige Ortega.
She graduated from Canton High School in 1947, and was employed by the National Bank of Canton (now Mid-America National) from June 6, 1947 to March 29, 1991, retiring as an Assistant Vice President. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and the Altar and Rosary Society.

Charles Williams - August 18, 1946 - May 11, 2024

He was born on August 18, 1946 in Canton to John and Helen (Martin) Williams.
He married Diana Orwig on September 22, 1974 in Smithfield. She survives.
Also surviving are his children, Thomas (Kim) Williams of TN, Sarah (Jared) Grzanich of Canton, Christina (Branden) Markley of Cuba, nine grandchildren, Seth, Hailey, Charlie, Willie, Lilah, Baley, Lillian, Allison and Emmett and one great grandchild, Mateo.
He was also preceded in death by his brother, John and one granddaughter, Stella.
Chuck served 2 ½ tours in Vietnam in the U.S. Marine Corp. After the service he worked for the U.S. Post office as a rural mail carrier from where he retired. He was active in the Nazarene Church in Smithfield. He was a member of the Cuba American Legion Post #533 and enjoyed hunting, fishing, attending the kids and grandkids events and riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle. He enjoyed vacationing, especially at Silver Dollar City in Branson. Most of all Chuck was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 15, 2024 from 4-7, at Oaks-Hines Funeral Home in Canton.
Cremation rites will follow and a funeral service will be held on Thursday, at 2pm, at the funeral home. Burial of the ashes with military services will follow at Baughman Cemetery in rural Smithfield.

He was born on, February 21, 1948, in Pekin, to Jack and Verna (Hill) Eastman. He married Margaret “Sue” (Lash), on November 7, 1970 in Normandale. She preceded him in death on February 19, 2010.
Archie is survived by his daughter, Tracy (Jim) Lyons of Topeka, one brother, Terry (Sunsha) Parks of Pueblo Colorado, two sisters, Jackie (Herb) Hall, and Pat (Kevi) Jeannotte both of St. Johns North Dakota, Seven grandchildren, Dalton (Liz) Devall of Jacksonville Illinois, Logan (Paige) Devall of Roberts Illinois, Zane Eatman of Champaign Illinois, Aaron Eastman of Pennsylvania, Jack Eastman III of Watseka Illinois, and Kaleb (Kara) Eastman of Ohio, Three great grandchildren, Olivia Grace, Isabella Lynn, and Douglas Raye.
Preceding Archie in death are his parents, a son Jack Eastman II, one granddaughter, Kourtni Eastman, and one brother Robert Parks.
Archie was in the United States Army from 1966 – 1970 serving in Vietnam in 1968 – 1967. He was part of the 101st Airborne Division and the 82nd Airborne Division.
He worked for Corn Products then went to work at Chanute Air Force Base in Rantoul Illinois, then Incobrasa in Gilman Illinois. He retired in 2003.
In his free time, he enjoyed going to the arcade in Paxton to see his buddy, Scott. Most of all he loved spending time going for rides and being with his daughter and grandchildren.
Archie was an amazing Dad and Grandpa, and he will be missed terribly.

Obituary Preview: Gloria Shaffer died peacefully on May 10, 2024 after a brief battle with pancreatic cancer.
She was born on October 8, 1948 to Leroy Jr., and Georgia “Pat” Burgett. Gloria was a graduate of VIT. She worked for many years at Graham Hospital in the billing department.
She married David Shaffer on February 5th, 1967. He preceded her in death.
Her parents and her beloved brother, Neil, also preceded her in death.
Surviving are her children, Jon (Melinda) Shaffer and Tonya Snyder. Jon’s daughters, Bryanna and Lia. Tonya’s children, Jordan, Tyler and Eleanor. As well as, Bryanna’s children, Bronson, Addalyn and Isabella.
Gloria enjoyed chatting with friends and family, trips to Walmart and car rides.
She has now been reunited with her parents and brother.
She tried her best to fight her cancer, but ultimately chose to be comfortable until her passing.

Wanda worked as the Clerk for Banner Township. She enjoyed fishing, hummingbirds, planting flowers and her love of animals.
A graveside funeral service will be held on, Monday May 13, 2024 at Walnut Cemetery at 10 am. There will be no visitation per her wishes.

Wanda was preceded by her parents Eli and Helen Fletcher; her brother Vernon Eli Fletcher (Casey); and a grandson Troy G. Davis. She is also preceded by Eugene Wilcoxen, Jerald C. Jenkins (Jerry), and Ora Bollinger.

She is survived by her husband of 33 years, David Williams. They married on September 20, 1990.
Also surviving are four children, Tara (Tarell) Harris, Miranda (Kevin) Herren, Ian (Amber) Henderson, and Beth Williams, three brothers, Billy Anderson, Kirk (Brenda) Anderson, and Mark (Terri) Anderson, two sisters, Deb (Bill) Roberts, and Kristie (Dave) Riney, and eleven grandchildren, Alize, Nox, Cayden, Rhylend, Marley, Jude, Alice, Amelia, Odysseus, Jaidon, and Elora.
Terri worked at the previous Coleman Clinic, the Canton Daily Ledger, and lastly she worked at Farm King in Canton. She enjoyed the years her and David spent living in the Smokey Mountains in Tennessee. While living in Tennessee, she loved seeing the wild bears. She never hesitated to be as close as she could when they were around. Most of all Terri loved taking care and spending time with her children, grandchildren, and all their friends she considered her own as well.
Cremation rites will be accorded and a celebration of life will be held at a later date.

He married Cynthia Agre on September 25, 1966 in Canton. She survives.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, his uncle and aunt, Bill and Pat Fidler.
Surviving is his son, Darren (Jeannie) Breese of Canton, daughter, Brenda (Darren) Sprague of Farmington, five grandchildren, Kayla (Chase) Welker, Alli Sprague, Macie Sprague, all of Farmington and Delanie and Jacob Breese of Canton, and three great grandchildren, Brynden, Brexley and Dutton.
Ed graduated from Canton High School and then worked for the Canton Daily Ledger.
Ed retired from Keystone Steel and Wire after 35 years of service at the age of 55.
He loved his family and spending time with them. He enjoyed gardening, making wood crafts and was an avid Chicago Bears and Cubs fan.
He was affectionally known as the “Tomato Man”. He grew over 100 tomato plants along with other vegetables for people around Fulton County. He wanted everyone to have fresh vegetables to enjoy.

He was born on December 15, 1955 in East St. Louis, IL. to Stephen and Caroline (Nelson) Meade. He married Karen Andrews on June 27, 1987 in Canton. She survives along with two children, Trygve Meade of Canton and Mallory Meade of Springfield, IL; two brothers, Stephen Meade of Gurnee and David (Rose) Meade of Amberg, Germany; and three sisters, Mary (Rod) Williamson of Avon, Julia Meade of Dallas, TX, and Tracey (Darryl Talley) Meade of St. Louis, MO. He was predeceased by his brother Richard (Sue) Meade.
Mike worked for the City of Canton in the Public Works Department, retiring in 2014 after 24 years of service. He was a member of the First Christian Church in Canton, Past President of AFSCME Local #3535, a child advocate for CASA of Fulton County, and a volunteer with Big Brothers & Big Sisters and the Adult Literacy Program at Spoon River College. He was also a passionate supporter of blues music throughout his life, being a member of blues societies throughout the United States and Europe.
After losing his both of his parents and supporting himself until he finished high school, Mike traveled the world. He saw most of the United States, the Caribbean, the South Pacific, Nepal, Egypt, Europe, and was a member of the second group of American civilians to visit China after it reopened in the late 1970s. In 1986, he met the love of his life, Karen, married, and settled down with her and started his own family. Throughout his remarkable life, he never failed to show up for them, and where he saw opportunities to help people who needed it, especially children, he took them.
Cremation rites have been accorded through Oaks-Hines Funeral Home and Crematory in Canton.
Services will be 2 pm Saturday, May 11, 2024 at the First Christian Church in Canton, where visitation will be held 1 hour prior to services. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery in Canton. Also surviving are eleven children, Ryan Mithcell, Danielle Mitchell, Michael Mitchell, Geneva Mitchell, Fredeleana Mitchell, Malachi Mitchell, Emily Mitchell, Brandy Stevens, Angel (Keith) Lawrence, Steve (Alaina) Lawrence, and Candice (Dr. Jim) Latour, one brother, Curt Deweese, one sister Janine Deweese, twelve grandchildren, and six great grandchildren with one more on the way.
Also preceding her in death is one son Shawn Mitchell, and a brother John David Deweese.
RoxAnne previously worked at Dixion State Hospital in Dixon Illinois and was also a licensed beautician. Roxanne volunteer for the Crisis Hotline in Peoria for many eras, and was awarded a certificate of adherence from the Salvation Army. Her and her husband were also foster parents for numerous years. RoxAnne dedicated her life to her family, raising and caring for her children and grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and brother and sister-in-law Howard and Lois Vohland.
Eileen graduated from Washington Community High School in Washington, IL in 1945. She is a past member of OES Esther Chapter 4 in Clearwater Florida. A member and past president of Canton Woman’s Club, member and past president of PEO Chapter of JQ, past member of Altruistic Club, volunteer for Graham Hospital Service League and a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and Miriam Circle of her church. Services will be 11 am Monday, May 6, 2024 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Canton, where visitation will be 1 hour prior to services. Burial will follow in White Chapel Memory Gardens in Canton. William Spenny - May 27, 1938 - May 02, 2024

Obituary Preview: William "Bill" Lee Spenny, 85, of Canton, passed away in the early morning of May 2, 2024 at Aperion Care Center, Fairfield, IL. He was born May 27, 1938, to Marion "Squirrel" Spenny and Allene (Arnett) Spenny. He married Annamae Ruey Fengel on July 22, 1988. She survives. Also surviving are his daughters Lyn Donaho of Canton and Gayle Fengel of Peoria, son Mike Spenny, grandchildren LaNaya Donaho of Canton, Mattie, Owen and Liam Maupin of Peoria, and great-grandchildren Caleb and Chloe Ellis of Canton, sister Nancy Petty of Canton, nephews Steve (Amber) and Tom (Amanda) Petty of Canton, and many great-nieces and nephews. Bill was preceded in death by his parents and his brother-in-law Gerald "Pink" Petty.
Bill was a veteran of the United States Marine Corp. He worked as a coal miner for Freeman United Coal Company in Canton and later as a United Mine Workers Association safety inspector in Illinois. As safety inspector, Bill taught safety courses to miners in Berkeley, W. Va, and investigated mining accidents in Illinois, and as a lobbyist for UMWA, he spoke to legislators in Washington, DC. Bill was also past president of Canton’s UMWA local, and he served a partial term on the Fulton County Board. When the mines in Canton finally closed down, Bill drove a truck first for LaRoma’s Pizza and later for the State of Illinois where he delivered bread made at Illinois River Correctional Center to other prisons within the state of Illinois. After his retirement from the state, Bill worked for his good friend, Curtis Gorsuch, helping him with his auction services. If Curtis was having an auction, it was a guarantee that Bill was going to be there holding up items during the sale.
Bill had a love for collecting pocket knives and tools and acquired an extensive collection over the years. When he still lived in Canton, he spent most mornings with his coffee buddies at McDonald’s or Hardee’s. Bill also had a love of Canton sports. He was a founding member of the Canton Little Giants Booster Club. Over the years, he helped clear ball diamonds, clean gyms, and raise money for Canton school district sports - even helping to spearhead a campaign which saved the Canton High School sports program and athletic director’s position in the ‘80s. Bill was instrumental in raising funds for the installation of the all-weather track at Canton High School. He singlehandedly organized a team of people, including inmates, students, and volunteers to sod the football field after the track was completed.
Bill dedicated countless hours running the clock at the boys’ high school football and basketball games, girls’ basketball and volleyball games, and helping time high school track meets. Bill’s service was recognized by the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association in 2008 when he was nominated by former Canton Athletic Director Ron Fahnestock and inducted into the Friends of Basketball Hall of Fame.

He was born on February 4, 1953 in Peoria to George and Lillian (Snider) Johnson. Dick was raised by his step-father Wiley “Gil” Gilmore. They all preceded him in death. Dick married the love of his life Darlene Tourtillott on July 13, 1974 in Fairview. They were about to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary. She survives along with one son Thomas Johnson of Canton, two brothers; David (late Bonnie) Johnson of Peoria and Tim (Betsy) Gilmore of Canton and one sister Patricia (late Jeff) Reed of Farmington.
Dick worked at Caterpillar for 31 years, retiring in 2004. He was an avid tennis player with many awards. He also loved watching sports, especially the St Louis Cardinals and Chicago Bears. While in High School he played baseball and football.
The family would like to thank his tennis family, Renaissance Health Care and Traditions Hospice for all their love and support during his illness. Cremation rites have been accorded through Oaks-Hines Funeral and Crematory in Canton. There will be a Celebration of Life held at a later date. James was briefly in in the Air Force at a young age. He was a lifelong resident of Norris and worked at Caterpillar in East Peoria until retirement. In his off time, he played in many bands, entertaining in a lot of local towns with his musical talents. He loved wearing his cowboy boots and blue jeans. He loved country music as well as classic rock. James was a go getter and never hesitated to say what was on his mind. He loved going to his favorite restaurants in Canton for breakfast. He liked to go shopping of a morning and would quote he didn’t like being in Walmart at noon, that’s when the crazy people come out. James had a smile you couldn’t forget and a deep love for his daughters.

Surviving is his son Tim (Kim) Evans of Hanna City, sister Carol Danz of Farmington, two grandsons; Trace (Kelsey Mull) Evans and Tanner (Morgan) Evans, two great-grandkids; Skylar James Evans and Layla Joy Evans and son-in-law Don Gibson.
James was a volunteer Fire Fighter for West Peoria, member of Elmwood Masonic Lodge, IHSA Official for basketball and football, loved attending all sporting events for his grandkids. He got the nickname of “Milkshake Evans” which he lived up to, even to end. James also played sports in High School and coached Peoria Post #2 American Legion baseball team for many years. He started working at Brucker Company (HVAC Supply Company) in 1972. In 1983 he started his own company TEDECO as owner/operator. He got to go on his last trip to Florida recently to see his great-granddaughter for the first time and declared his life was full.
Cremation rites will be accorded and a Celebration of Life will be held from 1-5 pm, Saturday, June 8, 2024 at Farmington Moose Lodge, 1001 East Fort Street, Farmington, IL. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Dorotha Burgett, brother, Victor Burgett, sisters Jessie Lashbrook, Melora (Laura) Fornoff, Dorothy Lucille Farnam, Phyllis Goodin-Heitz and Dorothy Jepson, the mother of his children.
Olen is survived by son Alan Burgett, Clarksville, TN (formally of Hanna City, IL), Vickie Manus, Clarksville, TN; step-children Steven (Debby) DeRenzy of Canton, IL, and Christine (Kevin) DelMastro of Lewistown, IL; four step-grandchildren, Chad (Nicole) DeRenzy, Tad (Brandi) DeRenzy, Ashley DelMastro, all of Canton and Korey (Staci) DelMastro of St. David; two step-great-grandsons and four step-great-granddaughters, and one great-great-granddaughter.
Olen farmed in both Mason and Peoria counties for many years. He was employed by Keystone Steel and Wire from 1955-1960. In 1995 he retired from Moorman’s Manufacturing after 35 years of service as a sales representative.
Olen, a longtime member of Calvary Baptist Church, Canton, IL, loved the Lord and his church family. As a greeter, he welcomed church family and visitors to services for many years.
Olen was a Veteran of the Army, being inducted in 1954. He also was a member of the NRA since 1966.
Olen was an avid hunter, reader, and western aficionado. He and Dorotha enjoyed traveling in the southwestern United States and Alaska. He loved gardening and generously shared his special sweetcorn and other vegetables. He also loved making the family recipe of homemade ice-cream for friends and family.
Services will be 11 am, Wednesday, May 8,2024 at Calvary Baptist Church in Canton, where visitation will be 1 hour prior to services.

Dorothy worked at Clayberg Nursing Home in Cuba for many years. She also worked at Goodwill in Canton. She was a member of the Canton Elk’s Lodge and a member of the former Canton Moose. She enjoyed shopping at Goodwill and Helping Hands, tending to the flowers at her home and playing slot machines. Most of all Dorothy Enjoyed spending time with her family.
Cremation rites will be accorded with Oaks-Hines Funeral Home and Crematory in Canton. A graveside burial of ashes will take place at Foster Cemetery on Saturday, April 27, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. Memorials may be made to Fulton County Humane Society.

Sharon also considered all of the kids she baby sat for over the years as her “bonus grandchildren”. She also enjoyed camping, and being involved in Beta Sigma Phi.
Sharon is a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Canton. She taught CCD for several years and also previously involved with the Food Pantry.
A rosary service will be held on Saturday, April 27, 2024 at 8:45 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Canton, visitation will follow at the church from 9:00 a.m. until the time of her funeral mass at 10:00 a.m.. Burial will be held immediately following the Mass at St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery. A funeral luncheon will be held at the parish hall following the burial.
