On June 23, 2022, Loretta went home to be with Jesus in heaven. There she joined her father, grandparents and brother, Louis. She is survived by her daughter, Jennifer, son-in-law Jarret, and her grandsons Jordan Wyatt, Jameson Jerry and Justin Ryder; her mother, Billie, sister, Jennifer Jody, aunt, Shirly Anne, and cousins, Lisa, Judy, and Denise.

Mary Catherine Krake - April 03, 1929 - June 03, 2022

Departed: 06/03/2022 (Lafayette)
Obituary Preview: Mary Catherine (Bausum) Krake - beloved mother, Oma, Ur-Oma, aunt, mentor, and friend - went home to be with her Lord and Savior on June 3, 2022, at the age of 93. Mary was born in Annapolis, Maryland on April 3, 1929 to Frederic William Bausum and Florence Burke (Hillborn) Bausum. She was the fourth child of five, and spent her early years as – in her own words – a “spindly, woodsy-loving child”; a simple farm girl who was born into a fantastic Christian heritage, with a deep faith and love for Jesus that would shape and guide her over the course of a long and beautiful life.
In 1946, God called Mary to move from the family farm in Maryland to Pineville, Louisiana, where she attended Louisiana College and earned her degree in music, with a major in voice. It was there that she met the love of her life, Joseph (“Joe”) Krake. After graduating, Mary followed Joe to California where he had relocated to attend Golden Gate Baptist Theological Seminary, and the two were married in 1951. Over the next decade, they were blessed with four children (Andy, Paul, Florence, and John), and with Joe’s encouragement, Mary found her gift in the profession of teaching, completed her master’s degree in education and, began work as a substitute in Pittsburg, CA.  She was soon hired as a fulltime teacher and served many years as a 5th grade teacher at La Fetra Elementary School in Glendora, CA, taught at an air force base in Germany, and then retired from teaching 1st grade in Pittsburg, CA. Not to mention many years of serving at church teaching youth and leading choirs. Mary and Joe shared a passion for both ministry and travel, and explored much of the world together, sharing God’s Word on mission trips from Malaysia, to China, and even moving to their ancestral home of Germany for a period of time! Mary also had a love for music, and graced many with her beautiful singing voice and skilled piano playing – her favorites were classic hymns. Mary was a prayerful, supportive wife and mother, a wonderful cook, and a motivator, always asking about other’s hopes and goals, and providing encouragement and guidance. She delighted in time spent with her family and in her church, and was strong, funny, detailed, determined, and loving.
From a young age, Mary’s deepest desire was to share the experience of discovering Jesus as a personal friend with each and every person she met. She was a spiritual mentor to many, and in her final days, she was still sharing God’s Word with the hospital nurses who cared for her.
Mary is reunited in Heaven with her parents, her beloved husband Joe (“Opa”), her son Paul and daughter-in-law Dayle, and her siblings; Florence (“Sis”), Stover, Frederick, and June. She is survived by her children, Andy (Marty), Florence (George), and John (Linda), as well as 12 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
In her memoirs, Mary spoke of family members who had passed on, quietly resting under a large tree in the cemetery developed by her father, and she looked ahead to imagine a future beginning after her own eventual passing with these words: “…The exciting, fantastic journey I have not yet experienced, will be traveling with the angels into Paradise, to spend eternity with Jesus and Opa.” Mary will be deeply missed by the family and friends she leaves behind, but her legacy lives on through the lives of those she has impacted, and there is comfort in the joy she surely knows now that she has finally taken that journey she longed for most.
Friends will be received on Monday, June 20, 2022 at Bethel Baptist Church (3578 Clayton Rd, Concord, CA 94519) - Viewing at 10:00am, and Memorial Service at 11:00am with a light luncheon to follow. Graveside Service will be held at 2:00pm at Oakmont Memorial and Mortuary, Lafayette, CA.

Evelyn (Evie) Riggs Westover - August 17, 1925 - May 23, 2022

Departed: 05/23/2022 (Lafayette)
Obituary Preview: Evelyn (Evie) Riggs was born in Gunnison, Utah August 17, 1925, the sixth of seven children born to William Reeves Riggs Jr. and Muriel Snow. Two of her siblings did not survive their first year, and her much beloved, only surviving brother Reeves died of tuberculosis when Evie was just sixteen years old. She was the youngest in her family, the seventh child having died at birth.
Evie’s mother was handicapped by Parkinson’s disease, and her family struggled financially. They lived for years in a creamery, where little Evie loved to roller skate year-round. Evie learned to read before ever attending school and was always an excellent student. A gifted writer, she was known for her many poems and was often called upon to write eulogies for family funerals. In 1945, Evie married Darrell Jay Westover in the Manti Temple. Darrell and Evie were lifelong sweethearts and faithful members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Darrell would later puzzle over God’s miraculous ability to pack so much love into one such tiny woman. Everyone who came near to Evie seemed to love her because of the love she manifested. Even animals were immediately affected by her presence.
Evie was the mother of seven children: Barta Vee, Darrell Kirk, Kim Riggs, Gale Kay, Paul Arnon, Layne Dee and Evie Jill—five boys with girls as bookends. Six of the children went with Evie and Darrell on a three-and-a-half-year mission to the Church College of New Zealand. The youngest daughter was adopted after their return to the United States.
When Jill reached school age, Evie went back to school herself, returning to college to get a teaching degree to assist in financing her children’s missions. She always enjoyed school and received excellent marks prior to graduating from San Francisco State University. With her bachelor’s degree in history and a California teaching credential, Evie went to work as an elementary school teacher. As always, she taught with love and drew her students to her. She was not averse to hugging a child. She was very much grieved to learn of the suffering of many small children in difficult circumstances. In later years, some of her young students returned to thank her for loving them in a very difficult time of their lives. Her earnings would assist in sending six of her seven children on missions to Austria, Germany, Australia, Germany, Bolivia, and Louisiana/Mississippi.
In later years, Evie and Darrell would serve full-time missions to Pennsylvania, South Africa, and Hawaii and offer local missionary service. They made many friends for themselves and for the Lord’s church. They served, they taught, they reactivated, and they loved.
Evie was the heart of her home, the joy of her husband and children. Whether it was a gaggle of teenagers getting ready for a dance or grandchildren running in circles, the home that Evie and Darrell established together was always a place of joy and laughter.
Evie gave loving service wherever she was. When a stroke seriously limited her mobility, she spent hours every day calling other aged, lonely, or infirm friends. One by one she outlived them. To a very late age she communicated by email and telephone with her cousins and her children. When that was no longer possible, she still enjoyed talking with her family in Zoom meetings.
She passed quietly away on May 23, whispering love and gratitude from her lips. She leads the way, with her husband, at the head of a great posterity, 7 children, 34 grandchildren, 91 great grandchildren, and one great great grandson. Together with spouses, Evie and Darrell have a posterity of 166 souls at her passing.

Flora Khin Than Myint - November 16, 1928 - May 18, 2022

Departed: 05/18/2022 (Lafayette)
Obituary Preview: Flora Khin Than Myint 11/16/1928 ~ 05/18/2022 Resident of Clayton
Flora Khin Than Myint was born on November 16, 1928 to Walter Black and Daw Tint in Rangoon, Burma. She was the youngest of two daughters. Her eldest sister was Marie. Her mother was a Buddhist and Father was Catholic.  Flora was Baptized and brought up as a Catholic from young. She attended a British Catholic Convent school at the age of six till World War II. She was very driven and did well in school. She received numerous government scholarships and was one of the few to be sent to study abroad in India and Australia during her college years. She graduated with an MBA in finance and economics and post-graduate degree in statistics.
Flora graduated from college after WWII in the early 1950’s, when there were only a few women who went that far in education. They were the first batch of young female graduates with degrees who helped to rebuild the country after WWII and Independence. After completing her degrees, she became an economist with the Ministry of National Planning. She worked with the country's balance of payments, budgetary planning and monetary and fiscal policy.
Flora was very ambitious and very business minded. She is what we called a super woman. When she was young, her mother had a clothing factory. From early on while attending the University, she would sell her mother’s clothing and under garments to her college friends.  Later, after marriage she would design and build homes with the help of her cousin, the architect, and rented them to the foreign embassy.
In 1957, she married a fun, loving, jolly good man, U Kyaw Myint.  U Kyaw Myint worked as a Deputy Director of immigration in Rangoon, Burma.  Flora and Kyaw Myint had three wonderful children, Keith, Melody and Byron. Both the couples were very religious and were very active in the church.  They brought up all three kids with Christian values.
They both enjoyed working, entertaining, traveling and being in the social scenes.
Flora was also very family oriented and took care of her Mother Daw Tint throughout her life.  In May 1971, Flora, her family and her mother Daw Tint immigrated to the United States where they were sponsored and supported by her sister Marie and brother-in-law Henry Roberts. Their family settled in Concord, California. Within Months of their Arrival, Flora was able to get a job in the finance department at the Chevron Corporation on Diamond Blvd in Concord.  When she came to the U.S., she had to learn how to drive. In Burma, they had a driver and never drove before.  She also had to learn how to cook and perform all the domestic tasks.  She was also a great mother.  She would always spend time with her kids taking them to their school activities, soccer games, making their clothing and giving them a good education.
When Flora moved to the United States, she was not able to find an executive job like she had in Burma. Because her other degrees were from foreign universities, she knew she would have to earn a degree from an American university to get an executive position in the United States.
She went back to college and in June of 1978 became the first minority woman to receive a Master's of Business Administration from St. Mary's College in Moraga.  While she was attending college, a classmate, an executive offered Flora a management level job. She became the senior cost analyst for vessel operations at Sea Land Services, Inc.  During her years at Sea Land, Flora also worked and lived in Seattle, Washington and Long Beach, California.
In 1987, Flora married Professor Donald E. Savage, a renowned professor in Paleontology at UC Berkeley. They both did some traveling to Europe, North and South America.
Don and Flora lived in Oklahoma and Utah for a few years while Don was opening paleontology museums for the Universities.
Flora was a very loving, caring, and giving person. She not only gave to charities and loved ones but also gave her time and advice to help people in need. She would go out of her way to assist in getting jobs for people, help with getting their citizenships or even teaching them how to buy a house. She also loved spending time with her family and friends.
Flora loved to cook and bake. She developed a love for chocolate in her later years.
When she left Burma, she left money to the Catholic Church and sponsored a minister to further the ministry and he became the Bishop and later became Cardinal of Burma.  She is very proud of him and all of his accomplishments, for his continual faith and dedication to the Lord and spreading the gospel of Jesus Christ to the Burmese community and around the world.
Flora passed away peacefully with her family by her side on May 18, 2022 at the age of 93.
Flora is survived by her 3 children (Keith, Melody, Byron and their spouses Jill and Midori) and honorary son Cardinal Charles Maung Bo,  9 grandchildren (Jason, Christina, Melissa, Ryan, Calvin, Talia, Stuart, Brandan and Matthew and spouses Rachael, Tyler, Vika, and Sophie) and 8 great grandchildren (Irelynd, Breanna, Joseph, Tanner, Lily, Elah, Jaiden, and Noel).

Dorothy (Dotty) Davis Granet - May 20, 1925 - May 15, 2022

Departed: 05/15/2022 (Lafayette)
Obituary Preview: Our beloved mother, Dorothy (Dotty) Davis Granet, passed away on May 15, 2022, just 5 days shy of her 97th birthday.
Dotty Davis was born in New York City on May 20, 1925, and spent her early years in Washington Heights on Magaw Place. Our mother remembered Washington Heights fondly, with memories of picnics in the park while watching the completion of the George Washington Bridge as well as attending George Washington High School (’44), where she excelled at playing hooky by jumping on a double-decker bus and going downtown to see Frank Sinatra at the Paramount Theatre in Times Square. On Magaw Place, she made many lifelong friends and also met her husband and our father, Gilbert Kenneth Granet.
After living in Stuyvesant Town, Dotty moved the family to New Jersey, where once again lifelong friends were made and legendary parties were thrown in River Edge, Englewood, Ridgewood and Ho-Ho-Kus. In 1979, she moved to Northern California, where she remained a resident for the rest of her life. Our mother’s greatest passion was always first and foremost her family. She believed her children were capable of doing anything they wanted to do, and would support them without reservation. She was able to make each of her children believe that he or she was her favorite, because she believed each of them was. She was also there to support other people she loved, and, to be in her orbit, meant knowing you could count on her for anything.
Dotty instilled in each of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren a commitment to prioritizing family, travel, the bold pursuit of dreams, and getting the most out of life. She always put less emphasis on needless details, such as unnecessary guidelines, meaningless budgets, or complicated regulations. She often repeated the tenet “rules are for losers” and used it as her unofficial motto. She loved to travel and spent her life seeing the world.  In addition to countless trips abroad, she cherished summers on Shelter Island and Christmases in Lake Tahoe. She had a keen appreciation of luxurious settings, but the extravagance she appreciated most was having her entire family gathered around her in any house within twenty minutes of a casino.
In addition to graduating from George Washington High School, Dotty also attended New York University. After being a full-time homemaker, she later went out to have an established career at Hewlett Packard.
Dotty is survived by her 5 devoted children, Craig Granet of Santa Barbara, California; Scott Granet (Nancy) of Redwood Shores, California; Suzanne Granet of Lafayette, California: Keith Granet (Jon) of Los Angeles, California; and Russell Granet (David) of New York City. She has nine grandchildren, Jenni (Dan), Jacki, Jordan (Bill), Julia, Allison, Carly, Joshua, Drew and Sadie. She has 3 great grandchildren, Sienna, Skylar, and Lake. She is also survived by her sister, Marie Davis Esche of Dade City, Florida, and her cousin, Louis “Buster” Taylor (Joan) of New Jersey. She was predeceased by her parents, Anna and Harry Davis.
A Celebration of her life will be held in San Mateo, California on Sunday, August 14th. More details to follow.
Our mother’s favorite charity was St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Please consider making a donation in our Mother's name by visiting the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital website, select "Ways to Give", "Create a Memorial Fund" and search “Find a Fund” for Dorothy Granet.
Please also consider taking everything less seriously and more actively pursuing life’s many delights, both big and small. Hug your family, eat lemon sheet cake for breakfast, play some bingo, order a steak and ask for a lobster on top, listen to “New York, New York” over and over, and toast our beautiful Mom with a cosmo in one hand and some pink champagne in the other.
