Obituary Preview: John H. Geist, 93, previously of Lake Milton, Ohio, passed away peacefully after a brief illness on Monday, September 11, 2023, at Washington Square Nursing Facility. He was born on May 12, 1930 in Clarion, Pennsylvania, the son of Willis E. and Sarah A. Cyphert Geist.
In September of 1969, he married Esther Keeley of Niles, Ohio and was blessed with 32 wonderful years of marriage until her passing in 2001.
John worked in maintenance and retired from Robinson Memorial Hospital. Prior to that, he worked at General Motors, Wean Manufacturing, and the Ravenna Arsenal.
He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force during the Korean War; he was stationed in Japan as a radio mechanic under the Aircraft Control and Warning Group. He was a member of the American Legion Post 737 in Lake Milton, where he enjoyed the camaraderie and friendship of many local Veterans.
John enjoyed many trips to Clarion and Canada for hunting and fishing with family and friends. He was an avid reader and enjoyed watching his favorite ball teams, the Pittsburg Steelers and Cleveland Guardians.
John was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Esther; a stepson, Kenneth Keeley; granddaughter, Holly Keeley; two sisters, Mary Alice Shoup and Patricia Gillium; and a brother, Glen Geist.
Survivors include two sisters, Marjory Pittman of Lake Milton and Freda DeMarco of Warren; a granddaughter, Bliss Keeley of Niles; along with several nieces and nephews.

Obituary Preview: John R. Polis, 74, passed on Thursday, September 7, 2023 in Mercy Health- St. Joseph Warren Hospital. He was born on November 5, 1948 in Warren, Ohio, the son of Steve and Florence Sisco Polis.
He was a graduate of Howland High School in 1967. He had some college and military training in the electronics field. John was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps, from 1967 to 1972, serving in Vietnam, and obtaining the rank of sergeant. During his military service, John was awarded numerous medals for his achievements and received his honorable discharge on November 30, 1972.
John had been employed at Monroe Calculator and later, had a small computer business in Warren. He enjoyed working with computers and studying theology.
He loved to travel and cook.
He is survived by his wife, Eileen Adams Polis. He also leaves a brother-in-law, Matthew Adams Sr. and his wife, Karen and two nieces and one nephew; his niece, Paula Johnson and her husband, James and two nephews.
Preceding John in death were his parents, his five sisters, and one brother.

Obituary Preview: Gregory A. Toro, 68, passed away in his home surrounded by family and friends on September 6, 2023, after a courageous eight month battle with cancer.
Greg enjoyed most of all being with family and friends, which he also considered family. His children and grandchildren were his life.
He had a passion for music and concerts, which he introduced to his wife and had endless conversations with his brothers about. Greg was an avid golfer, devoted Browns fan and the fixer of all things.
He retired after 34 years from Niles Building Products as a roll mill operator. Prior to NBP, he worked at several other plants.
Greg leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife of 28 years, Annette; his four daughters, Carrie (Ben) Litter, Tasha (Jerrald) May, Melissa Bisker, and Joanna (Kyle) Dean; his mother, Mary Lou Miller; and his four brothers, Mark Toro, Dana Toro, Lance Toro and Alfonso Toro, III. He also leaves eleven grandchildren, Gage Ashburn, Shayla Ashburn, Camille Cobb-Davis, Corey Cobb-Davis, Olivia May, Donovan May, Jonah Litter, Christian Dean, Arianna Bisker, Alannah Bisker and Graham Dean.
Family and friends may pay tribute to Greg on Saturday, September 9, 2023 from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Clubhouse located on Nicklaus Drive in the Legends in Howland, Ohio.

Also known as Nan, she is survived by her husband; daughters, Melinda (Joshua) Scott of Sharon, Pennsylvania, and Jill Culp (Stephen Crowder) of Akron, Ohio; and son, Dennis Culp, Jr. of Warren, Ohio. She has five grandchildren, Racheal, Raine, Sierra, Keralea, and Jacob; and five great-grandchildren, Nataliee, Raine Jr, Larissa, Zaxton, and Milan.
Nan is also survived by her two sisters, Bonnie Tribby and Victoria Sarvey of Ocala, Florida; and brothers, Steven (Barb) Sarvey of Warren, Ohio, and Christopher (Kaye) Sarvey of Newton Falls, Ohio.
Luanne was preceded in death by her parents, Donald and Marjorie Sarvey, and her brother Donald Sarvey Jr.
She will be missed by many family and friends.
There will be no services per Luanne’s request, but there will be a celebration of her life at a later date.

Obituary Preview: Ronald J. Fitch, 68, of Bristolville, passed away on Wednesday, August 30, 2023 at Trumbull Regional Medical Center in Warren, Ohio after a brief and unexpected illness.
He was born May 15, 1955, the son of John and Jean Fitch of Bristolville. Ron was a 1974 graduate of Bristol High School and resided in Bristol most of his life.
He was employed as a semi-truck driver for King Brothers for 37 years. He always said how fortunate he was to have a job he truly enjoyed.
Ron was mechanically inclined and enjoyed working on his old cars, going to car shows and cruising in his 1957 Chevy pickup truck. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family. He was known for his kindness and willingness to help anyone in need.
He is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Kathy. He leaves behind his children, Ashley (Justin) Martin and Lindsey (Alex) Hansel of Ohio and Aharon, Keith, Emily and Savannah, who reside in Colorado; and his siblings, Bob (Ruth) Fitch of Bristolville and Barb Benton of Cortland.
Preceding Ronald in death were his parents.
Per Ron’s wishes, a private graveside service will be held at a later date. Interment will be in Sager Cemetery in Bristolville, Ohio.

Obituary Preview: LIBERTY TWP. -- Elizabeth "Tootie" Louise Despain, 81, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 29, 2023, in Liberty, after battling cancer. Elizabeth was born March 21, 1942, in Sharon, Pennsylvania, the daughter of Frederick and Anna (nee Baltus) Andres.
She sold shoes for twenty years, fitting elderly in orthopedics. She found joy by collecting unicorns (her unicorn collection was featured in the Sharon Herald in the 80s) and garden gnomes. She loved NASCAR and was a die-hard Cleveland Browns fan. She had a passion for crafts and scrapbooking and made many greeting cards. She also bred hand-raised cockatiels and loved her kitties, having adopted many rescues over the years. Her later years were spent doting on her only granddaughter.
Elizabeth is survived by her son, John Hazen; stepsons, Glen Gearhart Jr. and Edward Hazen; daughter-in-law, Bonnie Hazen; sister, Freddy (husband, Mike) Angel; sisters-in-law, Deborah Andres and Wendy Hazen; brother-in-law, Kevin Doherty; her beloved granddaughter, Freyja Hazen; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Hazen; a stepson, James Hazen, and stepdaughter, Renee Hazen; her brother, Frederick "Bud" Andres; her sister, Janet Davis; her brothers-in-law, Bill Hazen, Dave Hazen, Bill Davis and Dean Rihel; and sisters-in-law, Cathy Rihel and Tina Dougherty.
Tootie was loved by many and will be missed by all who knew her.

Obituary Preview: Phyllis Jahn Smith Evans, born October 22, 1935 in Troy Township, Ohio and is flying high with her daughter, Kristen Evans, upon her death, August 24, 2023. She was a resident of Newton Falls, Ohio since 2012.
She was the daughter of Otto Jahn and Calla Chidsey of Troy Township. Her father passed away when she was a baby, and her stepfather, Benjamin Bieger, helped raise her with her mother.
Phyllis was a proud 1953 graduate of Burton High School. She attended Ohio State University for a short time and later in life went back to college at Kent State University, Geauga Campus. She held many jobs in her life - most were in Middlefield, Ohio. She was a switchboard operator, secretary, sales and order entry clerk. She retired from KraftMaid Cabinetry. She also worked as a bartender part time at Podboy's Golden Finger Saloon and Triple T in Parkman, Ohio.
She touched a lot of lives, and she ran her life the way SHE wanted. She didn't have an easy life but made the best of the hand she was dealt. She was a single mom and raised my sister, Kris and I by herself, taking on several jobs. She was not afraid of hard work and we both got our work ethic from her. She was 'mom' to a lot of our friends in our neighborhood as we were growing up. Phyllis had her own style and was proud of it. Even in her eighties, she had her hair colored with streaks, depending upon the season or her mood. She did have a colorful and exciting life and lived it to the fullest.
She loved the Browns and Guardians (Indians), BINGO, going to the Casinos, especially in Niagara Falls, Canada, craft shows and Chinese auctions.
Phyllis leaves behind her daughter, Shelley (Chuck) Kellerman; her two grandsons, Michael Fackler and Tyler (Scarlet) Evans and three great-grandchildren, Brynlee and Robert Evans and Brantley Killing.
She was preceded in death by her parents, stepfather and daughter, Kristen Evans.
Cremation has taken place and there will not be a service per her wishes.
Phyllis asked if anyone would like to donate to one of her causes, please make a donation in her memory to TNR (Trap, Neuter and Release) of Warren, Ohio or Portage County APL.
The family would like to thank Country Club Rehabilitation Campus of Newton Falls for their care after her fall in November. You not helped her, but Chuck and I, as well, through the transition.

He was employed at ITT Grinnell until the factory closed in 1971. He also worked as a logger. Gary enjoyed fishing, boating, hunting, camping, riding his motorcycle, fixing anything with a motor, and tinkering around in the garage with friends and family. Gary loved spending time with his grandkids and great-grandkids, and he also loved his dog, Amos.
Gary married the former Elaine Brothers Hall on May 18, 1991, and they enjoyed over 30 years of marriage together.

Obituary Preview: Robert "Bob" J. Osmon, 60, of Warren, Ohio, passed away on August 21, 2023, in Warren, Ohio after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born on October 16, 1962, in Youngstown, Ohio.
Bob was the life of the party! Everywhere he went, there was laughter and happiness. He was a hard worker and enjoyed his off time with social gatherings and friends. Bob was always ready for the next adventure and loved joking around, bringing joy to others.
Bob had a successful career building pools for many years and was an expert in concrete, building mausoleums. In recent years, he found fulfillment working at L'Oreal of Streetsboro, where he formed close bonds with his work family.
In his free time, Bob enjoyed riding his Harley and having nights out on the town. He cherished porch parties with his nephew who was more like a son to him, Shawn and Rebecca Osmon, with whom he resided. Bob had a special place in his heart for his great niece and nephew, Savannah and Damien Osmon.
Bob is survived by his father, Richard Osmon; his siblings, Rick Osmon and Sherri Osmon; his children, Robert Hall, Courtney Osmon, Jessica Cain, Nick Osmon, Greg Osmon, and Craig Osmon. He also leaves behind eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Bob was preceded in death by his mother, Jean Osmon; his twin daughters, Naomi and Neckea Osmon; his nephew, Corey Osmon, and his great-niece, Jordan Osmon.
In accordance with Bob's wishes, there will be no funeral services held. Instead, a private party will be held for family and friends at a later date to celebrate his life.
Bob will be remembered for his infectious laughter, zest for life, and his ability to bring people together. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

James Andrew Ridarsky - February 05, 1943 - August 21, 2023

Obituary Preview: James A. Ridarsky passed away peacefully on Monday, August 21, 2023 at 8:10 p.m. at Shepherd of the Valley - Boardman, under the comforting care of Sanctuary Hospice, Canfield. He was born February 5, 1943 in Youngstown, Ohio, the oldest son to Andrew and Mary (Wagner) Ridarsky.
Jim graduated from Boardman High School in 1961. He then attended college for a short time before joining the United States Air Force. Once discharged, he was a long-time, valued employee at Lake Park Tool and Machine for 50 years as a machinist and a “jack-of-all-trades”.
He very much enjoyed his number one hobby to include anything relating to automobile and motorcycle repair and restoration. He truly knew everything about cars from bumper to bumper. From car shows and swap meets, he enjoyed very much attending these events in his spare time. He could fix anything and passed on his knowledge to his family and close friends. He also attended many activities during his life for his daughters and most recently his grandsons. Jim was the proudest man of all on his family’s successes.
Jim loved his family wholeheartedly. His dedication and support was never doubted. He always was there for anyone who needed him. Being defined as the most loving husband, best-ever father, encouraging grandfather, great son and brother. His presence will be greatly missed by all.
This wonderful man married the love of his life on August 1, 1970, Linda Weitzman Ridarsky and they were happily married for 53 years. They had two wonderful daughters and surrounded them with much love and support.
In addition to his wife, Linda, he is survived by his daughters, Tonya (Robert) Hyde and Tammy Ridarsky; two grandsons, John Hyde and Gavin Hyde, all from Boardman, Ohio. He also leaves behind his two siblings, Gerald Ridarsky (Alayne) and Judith Kovalan (Ted); and his very best friend, Bill Pounds.
Jim’s family is inviting all family and friends to attend a Funeral Mass on Friday, September 1, 2023 at 3:00 p.m. at St. Dominic Church located at 77 E. Lucius Avenue, Youngstown, Ohio 44507. Upon conclusion, the family will receive greetings from all who attended.

He had lived in Ohio, California, Michigan, Texas, and finally returned to his roots in Youngstown, Ohio. John was a loving caregiver to his grandmothers, Viola Luna in Texas and Helen Trimboli in Ohio. A favorite activity was being able to cook for others. He picked up his love of pool from his dad and grandpa, wanting to only shoot with his grandpa’s pool stick. He was on a pool league and also enjoyed playing darts.
John was a gentle giant, protector of friends, body guard. His last gift to others was his donation of eye tissue and organs through Lifebanc. John leaves the family name behind in his son, Dominic Trimboli.
Loving memories of John will be carried on his parents, Dominic (Kimberly) Trimboli and Sharon Brien - Trimboli; his siblings, Tina (Ruben) Jackson, Dominic Trimboli, Christopher (Kimberly) Schampan, Robert Schampan, Mickey (Caitlin) Trimboli and Dominique Trimboli; his many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends; and his beloved dog, Chewy, who was his best friend.
John was preceded in death by his grandfather, John Trimboli; his grandmother, Helen Trimboli, his grandmother, Viola Luna and his uncle, Mike Trimboli.
Visitation will be held on Monday, August 28, 2023 from 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Life Church Leavittsburg, 610 S. Leavitt Road, Leavitttsburg, Ohio 44430. A memorial service will follow from 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. and a family meal provided at 5:00 p.m.

Alan had a lot of struggles in life and tried hard to overcome them. Despite his struggles, he was one of the most kind and loving people. Alan was a devoted father to his four children, Alyssa Hunt (Josh Garland) of Mineral Ridge, Toni Hunt of Vienna, Craig Hunt (Kaitlynn Moore) of Howland, and Tommy Hunt (Mackenzie Graham) of Warren. He was a doting grandfather to his four grandchildren, Emma, Gracie, Lucy, and Cambree.
In addition to his father and children, Alan is survived by his siblings, Marsha Hunt Dzurinda of Cortland, and Eric (Ronni) Hunt of Bazetta. He also leaves behind his loving partner, Heather Bowman.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Lucy Hunt.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 19, 2023 at Beacon of Hope Church, 3559 North Park Avenue, Warren, Ohio 44483. Family and friends may visit from 2:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m., with a service at 3:00 p.m., officiated by Pastor Gary Hennessey. A dinner will follow the service.

Obituary Preview: Alma Dean Ellis, 84, of Warren, Ohio passed on Monday, August 7, 2023 in Windsor House Nursing Center in Champion, Ohio. The youngest of ten siblings, Alma was born on August 27, 1938 in Bardo, Kentucky, the daughter of Calvin W. and Lilly Gill Ellis.
She is survived by her three sons, James Thomas (Karen) Holbrook, George Michael Holbrook and Russell Paul and Kathy Holbrook; her three grandchildren, James David (Jenifer) Holbrook, Jonathan Thomas (Sarah) Holbrook and Michael Holbrook. Great grandchildren are ongoing. Alma had many nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and outlaws and also two remaining sisters-in-law, Virginia and Mary Ellis. One of my brothers said “well we’re all orphans now”.
Preceding Alma in death were her parents and all of her siblings, Albert (Kate) Ellis, Henry (Inez) Ellis, Neva (Ralph) Campbell, Pascal (Mary) Ellis, Pauline (Milford) Meadows, Laurine (George) Stines, Eugene (Virginia) Ellis, Jack and Laurie Ellis.
I personally want to thank any and all from family and friends to nursing home and staff who helped to make my mother’s life a little more livable.
A service will be held on Saturday, August 12, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. at the Wayland Community Church, 6355 Wayland Road, Wayland, Ohio 44285.

The son of the late Blair D. McGinnis and the late Connie D. Sneath Reed, Glenn was born on March 15, 1972 in Huntingdon, Pennsylvania. Dan made his home with his sister and brother-in-law, Cindy and John Fabijance, for nearly 24 years.
Dan is survived by his four siblings, Carolyn (Perry Echelberry) Whary of New Philadelphia, Ohio, Marty McGinnis of Huntingdon, Pennsylvania, Cathy Perrin of Alexandria, Pennsylvania, and Cindy (John) Fabijance of Niles Ohio; his step-sister, Debbie (Pete) Tillery; his nieces and nephews, Kristi McGinnis, David Perrin Jr., Glenn Moore, Jennifer Perrin, Billy McGinnis, Christopher (Candice Byrd) Whary, Dustin (Elisabeth) Perrin, and Joshua (Margaret) Fabijance; several great-nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Dan was preceded in death by his parents; his step-father, Ward A. Reed; his step-brothers, Ward P. Reed, and Bill Reed; and his grandparents.
Dan graduated from Smithfield School for the disabled. He loved the Lord Jesus Christ, spending time with his family and friends, the national anthem, books, all sports, anything with an engine, especially-snowmobiles, firetrucks, trains and race cars. Dan would glow with excitement track side at the many NASCAR races he attended with his family. Dan particularly loved traveling to watch his nephew, Josh, in the high school and college marching bands, as well as compete in national shooting matches. Everyone knew Dan to be the life of the party. He was a lover of music; any time Elvis played, he tried his hardest to copy his “rubber legs” dance moves.
Dan will be greatly missed. A Memorial/Celebration of Life for Dan will be held on Saturday, September 16, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. at Celebration House of Prayer, 401 Washington Street, Petersburg, Pennsylvania 16669. Food and gathering to follow at Cathy Perrin‘s house, 6034 Sneath Road, Alexandria, Pennsylvania 16611.

Memories of Dan will be carried on by his father, Frank Shehane; his stepchildren, Kyle and Casey Merritt; his ex-wife, Janet Merritt; his brother, Michael Shehane; his niece, Jasmine Shehane; his aunt, Linda Shehane; his cousins, Mark Shehane and Marybeth Tvaroch and his beloved dog, Dewey.

Rod went to Enid High School where he was on the tennis team and graduated in 1964. He attended college in Oklahoma where he also played tennis and earned a business degree. He worked in men’s clothing sales and management for over 40 years between Foley’s in Tulsa, Oklahoma, Lazarus and Men’s Wearhouse in Columbus, Ohio, and Dillard’s in Warren and Boardman, Ohio.
He was a longtime member of New Vision Christian Church Center. Rod had a passion for sharing God’s love and spent much of his life ministering to others through preaching, as well as sermons he would record and edit himself. Rod enjoyed spending time with his children and attending activities for them over the years such as band recitals, football games and talent shows. He was always so proud of each of their musical gifts. He also loved being called “Poppy” by his grandchildren whom he adored.
Left to cherish his memories are his son, Brian (Allison) Turner of Dallas, Texas; his daughter, Sarah (David) Mintus of Ewa Beach, Hawaii; and his grandchildren, Jentsen and Avaya Mintus.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Phyllis Guthrie; and his brother, Dennis Turner.
A private service will be held by the immediate family.
The family wishes to say a special “Thank You” for the care and compassion to the doctors and staff of Greenbriar Healthcare Center, the ICU unit at St. Elizabeth Boardman Hospital, and Southern Care Hospice.

He was able to fulfill his career for over 30 years. He was also a handyman who enjoyed wood working. During his retirement, Robert took pleasure in watching his grandchildren grow and watching the birds.
Robert is survived by his two daughters, Kayla White of Columbiana, and Jessica (Justin) Miller of Toledo as well as his sister, Sharon Moran of Poland. He is also survived by his four grandchildren, Addia Peddicord and Joey, Raelyn, and Piper Miller.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Ann White, as well as his wife, Kerri, whom he married on August 11, 1990.
A celebration of his life will be held at his family home in Columbiana on Sunday, July 30, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. All who loved Robert are welcome.
