Earl enjoyed time with family and friends. During the summers of his early adult years, you’d likely find him in the outdoors either camping, fishing, or squeezing in a round of golf. During the winter months, he liked to take his family on weekend excursions to locations such as Marquette, where he grew up. He was also known to frequent the “Pines” bowling alley during his Cadillac years.
Earl was a proud “beer truck” delivery driver. He loved to tell stories about those times, which took him to several areas and establishments throughout Wexford and the surrounding counties. During that time, he saved up enough money to purchase Gorley’s Bar in Manistee, which would later earn him the nickname of Earl “The Pearl.” The years in which Earl and Nene owned the bar were some of his proudest. He loved telling stories about steak fries, the number of cases of beer that would be sold during a weekend, and of course, the infamous “beach party” when he covered the entire floor with beach sand.
After selling the bar, Earl, along with his wife Nene and daughter Earlene, moved to the Philippines. They would travel to Manistee on occasion, but San Roque (Southern Leyte) would be home until 2014. During his time in the Philippines, Earl owned a bar, managed rice fields, raised livestock and in general, had a good time with family and friends. He also enjoyed traveling throughout Southeast Asia with his family to countries such as Vietnam, Thailand, and Malaysia. After moving back to Manistee in 2014, Earl continued to work as a forklift operator for Indian Summer (Fruit Packers) in Ludington up until a few years ago. During his final years, you would likely find Earl playing cards with the guys, going for drives with Nene, discussing precious metals with Jerry on River St., or enjoying a beverage at The Elk’s, Moose, or VFW. A visitation for Earl will be held Thursday, May 16th, 2024, from 6-8 pm at Oak Grove Funeral Home
(Manistee) with a Vigil Prayer to follow. A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, May 17th at noon at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Manistee with Father Mitchell Roman officiating with visitation from 11:00 AM until the time of Mass. All are welcome to join afterwards for a luncheon hosted by the Lancour family and VFW staff located at the Manistee VFW.
The family would like to highlight the exceptional care that Earl received over the past several months from Crystal Lake Clinic, Munson Manistee and Traverse City Hospitals, MMR, Cowell Family Cancer Center and Hospice of Michigan. The family would also like to give thanks to the support received by fellow family, friends and from The Divine Mercy Parish.
