Rhonda Barner - October 21, 1963 - May 15, 2024

Departed: 05/15/2024 (Rolla)
Obituary Preview: Rhonda Barner was the light in any room she entered. After 60 years of illumination, that light flickered and went out after breast cancer spread through her body. Rhonda died on Wednesday, May 15, 2024, in her Rolla, Missouri, home surrounded by her family.
Rhonda was born October 21, 1963, in Bloomington, Illinois, to Lee Eidson and Zena (Snodgrass) Eidson. Rhonda’s luminance became brighter during her childhood when she asked Jesus Christ to direct the remainder of her life and save her soul.
After growing up in Illinois, Rhonda moved to Springfield, Missouri, in 1988 to work at a medical clinic and attend High Street Baptist Church. During a church single’s group event, Rhonda began dating another group member, Terry Barner. On June 29, 1991, Rhonda and Terry married at High Street Baptist Church in Springfield, Missouri. After the Barners moved to Columbia, Missouri, a year later, Rhonda worked in the Cashiers Department of the University of Missouri-Columbia while Terry completed his photojournalism degree at Mizzou’s School of Journalism in 1995. A year later, the Barners moved to Independence, Missouri, and their first daughter, Amanda Barner, was born. Seeing a new employment opportunity in Panama City, Florida, the Barners moved there in 2000. A year later, their second daughter, Rachel Barner, was born. In 2011, the Barners moved to Rolla, Missouri. Rhonda finished her work career as a testing proctor at Missouri S&T’s Student Accessibility and Testing Center.
Rhonda’s wry sense of humor and playful streak were legends in the eight communities where she lived. Rhonda loved singing Christian worship songs while cooking and also listening to good fiddle playing, banjo picking and bagpipe humming. Chick-fil-A sandwiches, Andy’s Frozen Custard and Ted Drewes’ icy treats were her food passions. She often planned surprise vacations for her family.
Rhonda’s dream was to be a stand-up comedian. In her unique way, she realized that dream while writing and performing in the “comedy relief” and extra-biblical acting portions in the Panama City (Florida) Passion Play from 2004 to 2011.
Rhonda was preceded in death by an aunt, Mary Eidson, of Bloomington, Illinois; maternal grandparents, Ward and Ada (Pharris) Snodgrass, of Shannon, Illinois; and paternal grandparents, Ralph and Eva (Valentine) Eidson, of Bloomington, Illinois.
