Obituary Preview: Wieslaw “Wesley” Sokolowski, 76, of Ludlow, passed away on April 25, 2022 at Baystate Medical Center. He was born in Kurkowo, Poland to the late Stanley and Agniezka (Melewski) Sokolowski. Wieslaw was a resident of the Ludlow community for over 40 years. He was an active member of the Polish American Citizens Club and dedicated parishioner at Immaculate Conception Church. Wieslaw especially loved to work on his vegetable garden.
He leaves his sons: Stanley Sokolowski, and his wife Marta, of Beaufort, SC, and Edward Sokolowski of Wilbraham; his daughters: Wesley Purdy, and her husband Raymond, of Dallas, TX, and Irene Lawless, and her husband Jim, of Belchertown; his sister, Krystyna Gasiewski, of Chicopee; and his beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Calling hours will be held Thursday, April 28, 2022 from 5-7PM at Nowak Funeral & Cremation Services, 15 Ludlow Ave., Springfield.  Funeral services will be held on Friday, April 29, 2022 assembling 9AM at the funeral home and proceeding to Immaculate Conception Church, 25 Parker St., Springfield, for a funeral mass at 10AM. Genevieve S. Krol - September 02, 1930 - April 14, 2022

Obituary Preview: Genevieve S. “Jean” (Kogut) Krol entered into eternal life with the Lord, and her beloved husband Eddie on April 14, 2022. Jean was born in Ludlow, MA on September 2, 1930 to Adam and Sophie (Workum) Kogut. She retired with many years of service from the Wall Street Journal. Jean was a devout catholic, and a faithful communicant of Immaculate Conception Church in Indian Orchard, MA. Jean was a member of the Immaculate Conception parish ladies sodality, and also a member of the ladies auxiliary of the PAV of Wilbraham.
After her retirement, Jean loved to travel with her husband to many places in the country and abroad. Her most memorable trip was to Rome, where she and her husband had the honor to have had an audience with Pope Saint John Paul II, on two occasions. Jean also enjoyed sewing, and polka dancing. Most of all, Jean loved spending time with her family whom she loved so dearly. She was always there to help family in any way she could. Jean had a heart of Gold, and her memory will be treasured by her family forever.
Jean was predeceased by her parents, her beloved husband Edward “Eddie” Krol on Nov. 10, 2018, and her nephew Thomas Krol on Jan. 27, 2020.
She leaves to cherish her memory her faithful and devoted niece Susan Grimaldi and her husband Al from East Longmeadow, and her nephew's wife Carol Krol from Belchertown. She also leaves one aunt Phyllis Sakowski of Wilbraham. Additionally, Jean leaves her cherished friends Rose Lupi, and Tina Bak, and many Godchildren and cherished cousins.

Marc Allen Lovely - August 02, 1962 - April 10, 2022

Obituary Preview: Marc Allen Lovely, 59, passed away at home on April 10, 2022. He was born in Rumford, Maine on August 2, 1962 to the late Leo and Theresa (Higgins) Lovely. Marc was raised in Livermore Falls, Maine and was a 1980 graduate of Livermore Falls High School. He then went on to earn a Bachelor’s Degree from Linden State College in Vermont. Marc worked for several years at the Hard Rock Café in Boston and worked as a manager for Banana Republic for 20 years. He was an avid fan of figure skating, enjoyed watching old movie classics and had a great love for growing beautiful flower gardens in his yard.
Marc leaves to cherish his memory, his sister, Janice Butler and her husband Steven of North Waterboro, Maine; his niece, Kristine Fish of Sanford, Maine and his nephew, Brian Butler and his wife Monica and their children, Isla and Mason, of Gorham, Maine. Marc will also be missed by his close friends who he cherished spending time with, Brian Dickey and Tim Ciara.

Obituary Preview: Frances Madelena Shaw, 92, of Wilbraham, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 9, 2022.  She was born on February 26, 1930 in Beacon Falls, CT to Leo and Christine (Ondras) Newman.
She was preceded in death by her second husband, Philip Shaw (1995), her first husband, George Kinner (2018), parents Leo (1979) and Christine (1942) Newman, brother Eugene (2019), and son Kevin (2020).  She is survived by her brother Donald; sons Lynn, David (Jody), Jan (Susan), Brian (Kathy), and Thomas Kinner; daughter Susan Siok; grandsons Ian, Jonathan, Torben, Kyle, Jeremiah, and Joshua; granddaughters Margaret, Kedi, Sarah, Heidi, Kiana, and Elizabeth; and great grandchildren Isla, Owen, Ellie, Caroline, and Keith, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
Fran was a long-time employee of the Wilbraham-Hampden school systems where she served meals with a side of love to Wilbraham’s Stony Hill school kids for 42 years and a seasonal summer employee of the Riverside Park/Six Flags in Agawam for 12 years. Fran was envied by many for her ability to discover great finds at tag and estate sales as well as auctions.  Her collection of pewter was second to none and occupied many of the shelves in her house.  She enjoyed entertaining family and friends and was well known for hosting large family gatherings for the holidays.

He owned and operated Taylor Auto Sales and Service in Springfield since 1984. John’s customers knew they were in good and trustworthy hands. A faithful parishioner of Immaculate Conception Church, he volunteered at the annual Dozynki Polish Festival. John’s faith was unfailing. John is remembered as caring, gentle, selfless, and hardworking. He had a kind and loving heart and was always willing to help others. He asked for nothing in return. John was loved and respected by all who knew him. He will be greatly missed and never forgotten. John’s legacy will live on in his beautiful flower gardens. We will all miss his delicious baking skills. John was a loving husband, father, brother, brother-in-law, uncle, neighbor, and friend.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife, Sandy; his loving children, Janie and Paul (PJ); his sisters: Krystyna Kaczowka and Barbara and Kazimierz Wozniak; his sisters-in-law, Pat and Walter Kroll, Julie Chmura, Teresa Lizak, and Wladzia Lizak as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Obituary Preview: Julius Ray “Doozie” Williams, 65, passed away April 7, 2022 at Baystate Medical Center. Born in Monroe, Louisiana to the late Johnnie Campbell and Edna (Price) Campbell, he grew up in Bastrop, LA and then, as a teenager, moved to Springfield. He was a 1975 graduate of Commerce High School.  Julius served in the U.S. Army from 1976-1980. Most recently, he worked at the Amazon warehouse in Holyoke.
Julius was very involved in helping others through his volunteer efforts throughout the community. He was charismatic, gravitating towards others, loved talking to people, and always lit up the room. Doozie loved life, music, and his family. He will be remembered as a wonderful father and grandfather.
Julius was predeceased by his mother, father, his beloved daughter, Dominique “Nikki” Williams and a brother, Thomas Earl Williams. He leaves to cherish his memory, his son Julius Williams, Jr. and his daughter-in-law Kelly Nicholson of Ludlow; his daughter Stephanie Bruce of Springfield; his sisters Pamela Williams of Springfield, Jacqueline Williams of Springfield, and Brenda Campbell of Chicago, IL; a brother Joseph Campbell; his grandchildren Imani Williams, Jada Williams, Brooklyn Rochester and Kaydence Williams Bruce, Kaley Nicholson, and Khalisi Davilla, and many other extended family members and friends.

Edward F. Majka - October 23, 1932 - April 02, 2022

Obituary Preview: Edward F. Majka, 89, passed away on Saturday April 2nd surrounded by his loving family at his home in Ludlow, MA.  Born on October 23rd, 1932 in Palmer, MA to Stanley and Kathryn Majka, he grew up in Palmer, moved to Wilbraham in 1954 and settled in Ludlow, MA in 1983.
Edward served in the United States Navy for 4 years, travelling the world on the USS Compton. After his service, Edward worked for the Indian Orchard operation of Monsanto Chemical Company for over 40 years until his retirement, most of that time as a Piping Mechanic throughout the operation.
He was an active and dedicated member of the Polish American Veterans Association, and very involved in meetings, events and enjoyed many friendships at the PAV. Edward was a communicant of Immaculate Conception Church.
Edward was a talented baseball player in Tri County Baseball, as well as an avid softball player with area tournament teams. He was also a passionate fisherman and home gardener.  If he wasn’t on the lake catching bass, he could be found spending hours in his garden tending to heirloom tomatoes and other vegetables.
Edward leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife of 66 years Dorothy, his son Jim and wife Ellen (Tatro) of Westfield, his pride and joy grandsons Reid and Drew, both of Boston, several nieces/nephews, and the large extended Tatro family of Ellen Majka.
Edward was predeceased by siblings Rudy, Joseph and Wanda.

Born on August 23, 1923 in Westfield, MA to the late John and Tekla (Starzyk) Kielbasa, he grew up in Westfield and had lived in Wilbraham before moving to Ludlow in 1972. Chester served honorably in the U.S. Army during WWII. He worked as a machinist for American Bosch for over 30 years. However, he was a farmer at heart, growing up on a farm in Westfield and still owned his family farm in Ludlow which he enjoyed exploring on his golf cart. He was an active member of the Polish American Veterans Association and was very proud of his Polish heritage.  He had a strong love of his homeland, Poland, which he visited often.Chester leaves to cherish his memory his sons: Peter Kielbasa and his wife Maryann of Ludlow, Mark Kielbasa and his wife Kerry of Westfield, and Gary Kielbasa and his wife Debbie, of Ludlow; his grandchildren: Scott Kielbasa, Chad Kielbasa, Matthew Kielbasa, Michael Kielbasa, Jennifer Kielbasa, and Amber Martin; his great-grandchildren: Logan, Max, Brody, Griffin, and Kellan; many nieces, nephews, other family members and friends. He was predeceased by his wife, Irene (Yamer) Kielbasa and his siblings: Veronica Jez, Genevieve Wykowski, Sr. Mary Viventia, and Stanley, Joseph, and Matthew Kielbasa. A faithful parishioner of Immaculate Conception Church, he volunteered each year at the annual Dozynki Polish festival. Mark was an avid sports fan, especially of football, baseball, and was a proud season ticket holder of the Springfield Falcons and Thunderbirds. Mark is remembered as caring, kind and hardworking. He was a gentle man with a loving heart. Mark was always first to help others and never wanted anything in return, he will never be forgotten.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his mother, Krystyna Kaczowka and his brothers, Richard and Michael Kaczowka, all of Indian Orchard; his aunts and uncles: Barbara and Kazimierz Wozniak of Ludlow, John and Sandra Lizak of Wilbraham, Teresa Lizak of Chicopee, Wladzia Lizak of Chicopee; Zygmunt Kaczowka of CT and Frank Kaczowka of Poland, along with many cousins, other family members and numerous friends. Obituary Preview: Thomas A. Roberts, 77, passed away March 19, 2022 at Baystate Medical Center. Born In Springfield, MA on January 20, 1945, he was the son of Henry R. Roberts and Anne C. (Knox) Roberts. He was the third of seven children.
Tom was a graduate of Classical High School, earned a Master’s degree in social work from Springfield College and enjoyed a prosperous career as a social worker for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
Tom was predeceased by his parents Henry and Anne Roberts as well as brothers John Roberts, William Roberts and Joseph Roberts.  He is survived by his brother Michael F. Roberts and his wife Monita Roberts of Ware MA, his sister Patricia R. Gootzit and her husband Gary Gootzit of Westfield, MA and his brother James J. Roberts and his wife Paula J. Caira of Washington, DC.  He is also survived by his sister-in-law Jan Roberts of East Longmeadow, MA. Tom had many beloved nephews, nieces, cousins and very special friends in his life.

Allan D. Noyes - December 09, 1941 - March 18, 2022

Obituary Preview: Allan D. Noyes, of Ludlow, passed away on March 18, 2022 at Holyoke Medical Center. He was born in Montpellier, VT to the late Harry and Norma (Rich) Noyes. He grew up in North Bennington, VT and was a graduate of Arlington High School and Castleton State. He later earned his Master’s from the former North Adams State College while working as a mathematics teacher at Hoosac Valley High School in Cheshire, MA. He was an avid fan of Cleveland sports (the Indians, Cavaliers and Browns) and played golf, baseball, basketball and softball and also served as a golf coach and umpire. While teaching at Hoosac, he was the director of Senior Class plays, and was a strong supporter of HVHS athletics. After his retirement, he enjoyed traveling with his wife Ann, attended HVHS sporting events, and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and his rescue-kitten, Shirley.
Allan is survived by his beloved wife of 30 years: Ann Robillard and step-daughter, Sheryl Schiavo, a former wife, Barbara Noyes and their daughter, Melissa Mott, former wife Meridith Noyes and their daughter, Cindy Poggiogale, his brothers,  Robbie, Jim, Bill, and Rickie Noyes; and his grandchildren: Emily, Caitlin, Connor, and Ella Mott, and Julianne and Tyler Poggiogalle. He was predeceased by a daughter, Deborah Noyes, son-in-law, Al Poggiogalle, and a step-son, Mitchell Robillard.

Obituary Preview: Dorothy M. (Peck) Guilmain, 86, passed away March 15, 2022 at Life Care Center of Wilbraham surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Burlington, Vermont on April 8, 1935 to the late Frederick and Lillian (Katon) Peck. She worked for many years as a kitchen worker at the Holyoke Soldiers’ Home. She was a faithful communicant of Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament Church in Westfield. Dorothy was a member of the 16 Acres Seniors, the Springfield Hobby Club where she enjoyed line dancing for 25 years and she taught senior swimming at the Springfield YMCA. She was also a member of the Hampden Village Association of Westfield. Family dinners, playing cards, especially gin rummy, and long Sunday car rides were favorite pastimes. However, Dorothy’s greatest joy was the love of her family and friends. She was a warm and welcoming person who always made others feel like her own family.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her children and their spouses: Debra and Paul Lebeau of Belchertown; David and Donna Hough of Holyoke, Dwaine and Tammy Hough of Chicopee, Darlene and Michael Kupiec of Springfield, Donna Asare of Springfield and Diana and Edward Orlowski of Middlefield; her siblings: Robert Peck, Lillian Roux and Virginia Masse, all of Chicopee; her step-children: Raymond Guilmain, Renee Trench and Yvonne Lagrand; 19 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, other family members and friends. Obituary Preview: Paul A. Levesque, Sr., 77, a longtime Belchertown resident, passed away at home surrounded by his loving family on March 10, 2022. Born on March 19, 1944 in Worcester, MA to the late Paul E. and Arlene (Bretton) Levesque, he grew up in Brookfield and was a graduate of Tantasqua High School. Paul proudly served in the U.S. Navy Reserves from 1962-1968. He gained a great love and lifelong appreciation for the ocean during his service. Taking out a fishing pole and being by a body of water was one of life’s simplest pleasures. For many years he was a salesman in the wire and cable industry working at various companies including TRW and EIS. Paul was a history buff, especially of WWII.

As a long time member she worked with all and was a sponsor to some.  She was an avid Bruins and Red Sox fan, enjoyed all things chocolate, a giver and getter of big hugs, a lover of puns, witty sarcasm, blueberry pie and playing candy crush & wumbology. The beaches of Rhode Island and St. Albans Bay were special places to her.
She leaves her beloved husband of 33 years, Paul Lizak; her cherished sons, Daniel Lizak and his partner Jon Teran of Austin, TX and Robert Lizak of Ludlow; her siblings and their spouses: Christopher and Kathy Loughman of East Longmeadow, Maura and Art Loughman-Bull of East Longmeadow, John Loughman of Agawam, Robert and Maryann Loughman of East Longmeadow and Jeanne and Chris Macey of Agawam; 2 granddaughters, Phoebe and Ella Coviello and many nieces, nephews, other family members and friends. She worked as a quality control inspector for Smith & Wesson. A dedicated and faithful parishioner of Immaculate Conception Church, she was a member of its choir and the St. Anne and Rosary Sodalities. Helen enjoyed knitting, sewing, gardening but most especially, her faith, family and the many friendships she cherished.
To cherish her memory, she leaves her children:  Wojciech Zielonka and his wife Marcelle of Miami, FL, Aleksandra Zielonka of Indian Orchard and Peter Green and his wife Lynn, of Bennington, VT and her grandchildren: Konrad Zielonka and Aiden Green. She was born in Samora Correia, Portugal in 1947 to Victor Manuel Conde Alegria and Henriqueta Malico Romao, both predeceased. Splitting time between Samora Correia & Lisbon, Portugal, she was the older sister of the late Joao Custodio Alegria of Samora Correia and the late Helena Alegria Pederneira of Ludlow, MA. Having lost her mother at a young age, she is survived by her loving stepmother, Perlina Alegria and her youngest brother, Victor Alegria and his wife Ana Pedro Alegria, and sister-in-law, Maria Emilia (Mila) Romao Alegria all of Portugal. Educated in Portugal, she settled in Ludlow, MA in 1967 where her husband, Jose Marques Alberto (predeceased) had immigrated the year before to play soccer for the Gremio Lusitanos. A skilled writer, she left behind countless poems, letters and essays in both her native language of Portuguese and in English. An avid listener of Portuguese Fado, she is best remembered for a beautiful singing voice that could be heard while she cooked wonderful Portuguese meals that filled the airwith her love for all things Portugal. Retired from United Plastics Group of Chicopee, MA where she worked for two decades as a Quality Control Supervisor, she took in strays and loved her precious cats Shadow, Mika and Shana.
She will be missed by her sons Frank and wife Ana Alberto, Eddy Alberto and partner Judi O’Brien, and Joseph “Junior Marques” Alberto and wife Mia Alves. She also leaves her cherished grandchildren Nicholas Alberto & wife Kay, Andrew Alberto, Marisa Alberto, Emma Alberto and step grandchildren Susan & Anthony Afonso. She leaves her great grandchildren Aubree, Brady and Chloe Alberto. Dora also leaves behind her niece and nephews David Pederneira, Ana (Pederneira) Ferris & Daniel Pederneira, as well as her brother-in-law, Jose Pederneira in the United States. She also leaves her nephew Joao Alexandre Alegria and two nieces, Mafalda and Carolina Alegria in Portugal.

Obituary Preview: The family of Walter "Ted" Lak sadly announces his passing on February 20, 2022, at Baystate Medical Center.  The son of Walter Lak Sr. (Ware, Ma) and Dolores Sokolek (Scranton, Pa), Ted was born in Springfield, September 13, 1952, the second of seven children.  Educated in Chicopee Public Schools, he later attended Westfield State University and Holyoke Community College.  Upon receiving his draft notice in 1972, he proudly joined the U.S. Coast Guard.  A veteran of the Vietnam Era, he served his Country for seven years.  His time in the Coast Guard took him to District Office Boston, to Manchester, N.H. as a recruiter, and serving aboard the USCGC "Sundew," where he spent a year breaking ice on Lake Superior, Michigan.
He married his soul mate, Gloria (Winiarz) on September 16, 1973.  During his time in the Coast Guard, they had some pretty interesting adventures.  He often said their best time spent was living in Deering, N.H..  Returning to Massachusetts, they settled in Springfield.  In 1982, Ted started his own business, "Husky Cutter Grinding."  After 18 years, he sought employment at Industrial Precision in Westfield, Ma, where he remained until his retirement in 2015.  Ted also served two years in the Army National Guard, and received a Presidential appointment to the Selective Service Board, where he served 20 years.  Ted was a gentle, loving, unassuming man who loved to make people laugh, and placed few demands on others.  His pleasures were simple;  Playing his guitar, watching science fiction movies and cooking shows, and walking his dogs in the woods while picking mushrooms.
Ted was predeceased by his father in 1998.  He leaves his wife and best friend, Gloria (Winiarz), his mother, Dolores Lak of Chicopee, his sisters, Rosanna Brassard (Gilbert). Tina Lak-Lavoie (Jeff), brothers Alex (Lynn), Robert (Cheryl), and Christopher (Lucy).  He leaves a host of nephews and nieces, as well as the two he joked the most with, Thomas Merigan of Hingham, and Brian Lak, Nashua, N.H.  He also leaves his dear sister-in-law Christine Merigan, and brother-in-law Tom Merigan, both in Marshfield.  Finally, he leaves behind Forest and Jenna, his two felines, and his adoring, loyal canine companion, Chowder. His memory will be cherished by all who knew him well.

Adam brought love and joy to all of those who knew and cherished him.  He was the most loving son, the most caring brother, and the most devoted uncle.  Adam was taken from this life far too soon, and our hearts will ache for him until we meet again.
His family meant more to him than words can describe.  Adam is survived by his parents, Franciszek and Zosia; his twin brother, Daniel; his sister Urszula, her husband Matthew, and their children Andrzej and Ela; his ciocia and wujek, Janina and Stanislaw Halama; and many loving aunts, uncles and cousins.  Adam is predeceased by his adoring grandparents, Andrzej and Stanislawa Socha; and Stanislaw and Katarzyna Sedzikowski. She was an avid Boston Bruins fan, and enjoyed many hours watching ice hockey. She was passionate in her faith for God, and had a deep love for her family.
She is survived by her husband Mark, her four sons, two sisters, two daughters in law, and seven grandchildren.
